3221  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / I messed up and feel terrible about it on: February 09, 2021, 10:12:54 AM
I messed up, big time. I don't think I've messed up that much in a long time.
I sold my almost last bit of Bitcoin I had, (about 0.03 BTC), during yesterday's new all-time high at approximately 37.000 Euros. It's definitely a small amount, close to nothing, especially when comparing to what you guys probably have, but I totally screwed up.

I did it thinking that the price would crash later on, then proceed to spend that money to buy more Bitcoin, but I don't see that happening. I should have kept my balance intact, 0.03 BTC would still be 0.03 BTC, now, in order to buy back I'd have to spend way more money than I would. I think that I might be panicking way too much for nothing, I mean it can't continue rising forever, but the thought of regret is eating me.

3222  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Newbie gambling sites on: February 08, 2021, 11:59:12 PM
Lots of new gambling sites have sprung up now, but not all of them are good. Indeed, you have to be careful when choosing gambling sites to
play gambling. Try selecting gambling sites that are most actively promoting in this forum, usually it's a good gambling site. And don't forget
to check the security system and withdrawal fees on the gambling site. There are several gambling sites that I recommend using, namely Bitcasino,
Bitvest and 777 coins. These three gambling sites are the best in my opinion and the most I use to play gambling.
Definitely true, there is a plethora of gambling sites, most of us are unaware which are to be trusted or not. I'll agree that most sites promoted here are legit and safe to use. Will make a list soon with information about the most well-known, legit sites, after I investigate and experience them myself.
3223  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Newbie gambling sites on: February 08, 2021, 10:55:40 PM
It seems @OP is already playing gambling on Freebitco.in. But we should remind @OP that he must be careful about playing gambling as there will be no back way to recover his losses money unless he has lucky. He can try many gambling sites out there, whether from this forum or by his research, but only with care, he will have a chance to prevent the losses. But if you want to play often on the gambling site, it will be related to your feelings and comfortable to stay on that site.
I actually am, but only with micro amounts, as I said, I just want to kill some time, maybe earn a few bits if I'm lucky. That's all. I am not planning on losing my money nor waste my time. I'm actually kind of thinking of stopping in Freebitcoin, I mean, it's not bad at all, gambling with the Satoshi you can earn from the faucet isn't a bad idea. However, I find the concept of multiply BTC, the jackpot etc a little too boring/plain looking.

Currently, I'm using Bustabit, due to its unique concept, it makes you anxious and to jump of your chair while observing the multiplier. It's simple but kind of thrilling, can't really explain. I've also wandered around Bitvest, I like the slots, dice (Yeah I know most of them have it) and the Plinko also looks interesting.

I need to settle down on one two, which I haven't really decided yet, one of them is Bustabit for sure, I'll have to choose one more to have some variety. I've narrowed down to a few, so probably going to be choosing between Stake, FortuneJack or Bitvest.
3224  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Lost wallet? Help me find out on: February 08, 2021, 08:33:12 PM
So far, I've recovered three wallets, one of them was intact, another one was simply empty and the last one had $100 in it.

how is this $100 showing up?
there must be either an address that has that balance or a transaction that shows this received amount. can't you use that to extract your possible address and then check it against your 12 words?
The three wallets I'm mentioning have nothing to do with the 12 word phrase I have. I am just suspecting that the phrase might be from one of the wallets I found and recovered successfully. These three wallets were online Blockchain ones, and were recovered by looking back on my old email, finding the wallet IDs and guessing the passwords.
3225  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It's not a good rise, actually it's bad on: February 08, 2021, 07:40:00 PM
I understand where you're coming from and why you're worried. You're worried that someone of influence, such as Musk, can actually have an impact on the market, and we've actually seen that happen. I've seen at least two times with Doge, and at the same time, Musk had promoted Bitcoin through his Twitter account.

However, this time, Tesla invested 1.5 Billion into Bitcoin, that explains the sudden spike in price. Still, even if that's the case, it's a controversial subject that such companies have massive impact on the market.
3226  Economy / Speculation / Re: Another ATH ( all time high) | Another Milestone | $24k BTC | Updated to $43000 on: February 08, 2021, 01:39:08 PM
Another All time high. we reached $43k  Cool

Quite astonishing, was laying on the couch and woke up to this, it was very sudden. Decided to sell some Bitcoin and try to purchase back after the bull run ends, at a lower price. Hoping to make some profit that way.
3227  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Don't trust web wallets, don't trust exchanges, then where to trade? on: February 08, 2021, 01:12:25 PM
Not your keys - not your coins, that's 100% true but for some people, I would say: Even your keys - not your coins.

Okay, woud love to hear opinion about this from the community members.

As we know and from every logic, we shouldn't trust web wallets and also exchanges. There were a lot of accidents when exchanges were hacked and people lost their coins. Some may say - don't keep your coins at exchanges for a long time but I would say that everything happens in seconds, maybe you had access on your coins at exchanges while you were replying to this thread but once you submitted the post, exchange got hacked and coins were lost, everything happens in seconds, otherwise loss wouldn't occur.

So, how do you trade in these cases? Only p2p exchanges? But it's not flexible and you may miss a good time frames where you could profit 1-2% of your balance.
I've also had the same question as you. I've been hearing not to hold coins (Or even Fiat balance) in exchanges, for safety concerns, I don't see how you can actually do that. Not only that, but I find it a waste of time and money to have both your balance and your coins transferred all the time.

I've always used online wallets in the past (BitGo and Blockchain) and never had any issues. Currently, I have some money on an exchange and some Bitcoin, I keep investing/trading both, back and forth throughout the week, I don't see how I could actually keep them "offline". I think, that if you are using reputable sites, don't sign up on any stupid phising or scam sites, use 2FA, you'll be good to go. I might be wrong though, that's just my 2 cents.
3228  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Elon fuels BTC rise 17% DOGE gose 8× on: February 08, 2021, 12:30:54 PM
Crypto is Elon's new playground now?

What will happen when the tweets "Bitcoin as shit as FIAT" like the last time he did?

Reminds me of McAffee too. Since he is in jail now, somebody had to fill his spot. If Elon keeps doing this, he might be cell mates with McAffee.
Couldn't agree more, it's pure manipulation of the mass. People know that such announcements/posts from someone of influence have massive effects, especially in Doge, which is a meme coin with no actual purpose. They're taking advantage of an opportunity that won't definitely last long, and may or will definitely crash at any time.

There are others who are still buying at this tremendous price, I find it stupid and way too risky.
3229  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Exchanges' Trading Fees on: February 08, 2021, 08:28:16 AM
Bitstamp has high fees compared to other exchanges that are available. This does not necessarily mean that you must move to a new exchange because the very thought of that makes some users skin crawl. Still if you have options at hand and since this sector is a unregulated mess, you can and should look for alternatives.

Bitstamp also has threads getting posted in this forum about taking long time to verify users and doing background investigations on them. So you might want to move away from them with time. You never know when you get locked out of your funds.

Binance has been suggested here, but there are several other exchanges too. Check with your local user base and what they use commonly and go with the majority. It makes sense to have accounts in more than one exchange, a lot of reasons exist including possible failsafe in case one of them get hacked/downtime and you need to trade something from wallet.
The fees are quite high indeed, it's definitely a hassle to move to another exchange, plus, I don't know how to move my whole funds somewhere else and to avoid excessive withdrawing/depositting fees. I mean, there are other concerns that come to my mind now, what if my account gets blocked on the other exchange after a sudden large deposit, what if I have trouble verifying and so on.

I've also read that thread, I had no trouble verifying on Bitstamp a few years ago, their support was solid and prompt when I had lost access to my 2FA. However, looking back at the transaction history and summing up the fees I've paid, well, I got to tell you, it's a decent amount.

I've used Kraken and Poloniex in the past, many years ago, in fact, I couldn't even remember that I had an account on Poloniex.

I'd like to ask, is this campaign still accepting new members? 3 of us have applied, the spreadsheet has been updated but none of us have received any update on our applications. The most recent post made by the managers was mentioning that the lowest class is open for new applicants.

Isn't there a tool out there to bruteforce a sentence with one bad word?
I think so but if not I can make one quickly
Yep... btcrecover can usually work it out fairly quickly... however you need the "incorrect" seed, and a known address generated by that wallet. Sounds like the OP may not have the address. Undecided

This is the most "up to date" version of btcrecover (that has added extra features over the original by gurnec): https://github.com/3rdIteration/btcrecover

Unfortunately, that is correct, I do not even have the address. If I did, I could see if it was worthy of recovering, I cannot even guarantee that it's not another empty wallet.

So far, I've recovered three wallets, one of them was intact, another one was simply empty and the last one had $100 in it. This is a file I found randomly on my drive, the 12 word phrase could also point to one of these 3 wallets.
3233  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC back to All time high ..did you buy ? on: February 07, 2021, 01:10:47 PM
Me stupido sold at approximately $37.400 in order to buy again at a lower price. Well, let's just say that didn't really go according to plan. I'm planning to buy back the exact amount I sold, if the price ever falls back to that level.

Hi
I don't know if you can move your thread yourself but the forum for technical help is there: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=4.0
12 words phrase is likely a BIP39 or Electrum mnemonic, try using tools on internet but use them OFFLINE! I just found this for example https://iancoleman.io/bip39/
The 80MB wallet may be a Truecrypt/Veracrypt container?
Your 'xc2.....2om' word may be a password? Of the container? Or a BIP38 password for your keys?

Thank you for your reply, I've no idea what Truecrypt/Veracrypt container is lol, so I doubt that it's that. Furthermore, I don't really understand what this tool you've attached does. I'd really appreciate if you could elaborate.
In this tool you put your 12 words in "BIP39 Mnemonic"
This will give you a private key in "BIP32 Root Key"
You may need to put your "xc2" password in "BIP39 Passphrase (optional)" too

Then you can import the two "BIP32 Root Key" (the one with xc2 in BIP39 Passphrase and the one without) in Ethereum (I'm not sure bitcoin-core has implemented BIP32 yet) and use your funds if it works
Thanks, I've tried that but it says invalid mnemonic. Tried using the password too but made no difference.

Are you sure that the wallet file doesn't have the extension? Or it might be just hidden? check carefully because there are some users here who mention about 80MB of the wallet.dat file of their Bitcoin core wallet.

Here's the post below for reference
- https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=34028.msg2570257#msg2570257

About the 12 phrase seed can you try to check the words from your backup seed with this list of words from here https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0039/english.txt
Check if all of the words from your backup seed are under that list. If some of the words are not there it means it's a different wallet.

It might be a litecoin or other coin. Can you try to check if when it was created? Try to right-click the file that has 12 phrase backup and click properties it should be show details with the date when it was created.
Thank you, I've checked the attached list and all words do match up. I've tried importing it using a desktop wallet by inserting the 12 word phrase with no success. The text was created on December of 2018. I've no idea on how to test that "wallet" file.
3236  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Lost wallet? Help me find out on: February 06, 2021, 09:22:09 PM
Updated, View second page please

Hello there,
After all this bullrun, I've been searching for old wallets I had, back when I was young and innocent.
I've found a 12 phrase on a text document and another long "word" with random letters. Starts with xc2.....2om, it's 32 characters long. Have no idea what it could actually be.

Furthermore, I found a file, approximately 80mb with the name "wallet". Just that, no extension, nothing.

I've already tried importing the 12 phrase on a Bitcoin wallet but says invalid. I'm suspecting that they could be something else too.

Anyone of any assistance please? What is this "wallet" file, that 32 character object? Any chances that the 12 word phrase belongs to another coin?

Thank you in advance

3237  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin hits $40k on: February 06, 2021, 08:31:04 PM
With the way BTC price is rising, 100k might be the minimum this year. Institution money is really coming in big time.

No, 100k is daydreaming. It won't pretty much happen. I would expect more of 50-60k but never 100k. I don't want to get my hopes up to 100k but if that happens and I sold at 60, then I would have no regrets as this was part of my plan after all. No time for self-doubt.

BTW, it reach 38k again this week for 1-2 hrs and goes back to 33k. So I think, this would be the scenario for this weeks to come.
I wouldn't say never, I get it, it's a very optimistic and an unlikely goal, $50.000 is way more realistic. Thinking back on how the price climbed so quickly, it won't take long to happen.

However, $100.000 might sound crazy, but there's a chance it might happen in the distant future. Certainly not within 2021, not even 2022 and so on.
3238  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Exchanges' Transaction Fees on: February 06, 2021, 06:40:45 PM
This is a fee comparison list of several popular exchanges. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5079048.0. The last update of the thread is May 2020. Maybe some of them have changed, it is better for you to check the latest fees through their respective sites.

Some small exchanges also offer cheaper transaction fees than others. But still, you have to consider the reputation, because the security of funds and data is everything.
I don't disagree, security is the first priority, will go through the other thread too.
which is definitely a waste of money.

So you are expecting a centralized exchange to offer service for free? If an exchange offers for free then its just a scam for sure.

There are ways to reduce the transaction fees like when using the native tokens of the exchange and perfect example is holding BNB on Binance exchange can help you to get some disccounts.
Of course not, it's just that I'm using Bitstamp currently, which has 0.5% fee, at the same time, Binance offers 0.10%, which is a huge difference when trading on a daily basis. I wouldn't consider Binance a sketchy/non-legit exchange.
Topic title and post description are quite confusing. Title saying transaction fees, means deposit and withdrawal fees. It doesn't make sense to require a fee of 0.5% for withdrawal or deposit. So I am assuming you are talking about trading fees, but still 0.5% is quite high to me where other reputed exchanges require smaller fees. I think Binance fees are quite reasonable which is 1%, and there will be 25% more less using a native coin. So, you might move to some other reputed exchange where fees are low.
You're right, the title is misleading, I was referring to trading fees. Corrected it, thanks!
3239  Economy / Service Discussion / Exchanges' Τrading Fees on: February 06, 2021, 12:16:37 PM
What exchanges are you using? I'm currently using Bitstamp, I have no issues so far, it inspires security to me. However, it only offers a small variety of coins (BTC, ETH, XRP, LTC, LINK, XLM) and a few others, at the same time though, its fees are quite high, at 0.5%.

Looking back and my transaction history, I've spent a respectable amount in fees, which is definitely a waste of money.

I've also used Kraken, but didn't really like its design and layout, I don't remember why I moved my funds to Bitstamp though, long time has passed since then, and I've got no clue.

3240  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I was left behind with btc market. on: February 06, 2021, 11:10:00 AM
I am posting this because I was surprised how bitcoin market price move. I can't hardly believe that after some time of inactivity in the forum and cryptocurrency there has been a huge changes happen. A drastic bullish trend of bitcoin and other altcoins tha are bullish too like ethereum. I was gonne thought that cryptocurrency could pop like a bubble and everything will go back to the bottom.

Another thing that I also check @coinmarketcap.com is a coin at the top of the listed crypto of coinmarketcap.com btc in the coinmarketcap.com. It has a rank 0 in it highest of all in the market. What could really be happening of thia crypto and why it was being posted in top. There is a  high chance that it can grow for more knowing it is listed at the top.

Hmmpp..I am interested to know what could happen to bitcoin. There are really great surprises ahead and that could be mean that btc could go in just a short period of time having 100K $ per btc. It would be possible and we all know of that.

I was really left behind after all this pandemic has cause so much in all of us in financial aspects. If I could have some spare money I gonna love to invest in a coin eyeing on the crypto listed on top of btc in coinmarketcap.com. What exchange could it be bought? I need to get an idea about this crypto. I am also planning to buy bitcoin. Good Luck to me!
That coin is a troll, like another poster has already commented, it doesn't actually exist. It was made as a joke, referring to the Gamestop stock incident. Bitcoin is and will remain the top coin, currently sitting at almost 62% dominance.

On the other side, I was inactive too, for about 2 years. Missed a lot of opportunities and I regret that.
