You guys seem to think regulation is some kind of option. It is not. There will be regulation no matter how you feel about it. If you feel that destroys bitcoin, then sell yours to a grown up.

idiot

tell me how bittorrent is regulated, mr know it all

It must be because I'm an idiot, but I fail to see what bittorrent has to do with anything? It is a tool for downloading. Why would that garner financial regulation?

Well , he's comparing thepiratebay with bitcoin , so If i were to guess , you're not the idiot Cheesy

He's comparing one p2p protocol with another. Can't you understand that?

...tell them to shove their kyc/aml up their ass
Yeah, that should work.

You guys seem to think regulation is some kind of option. It is not. There will be regulation no matter how you feel about it. If you feel that destroys bitcoin, then sell yours to a grown up.

LOL not in my country. We do what we like. We are free!
3223  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [BOUNTY] 0.15 BTC per transcript of LetsTalkBitcoin on: November 15, 2013, 02:55:11 PM
IA certain liberty in transcription is allowed, as long as the meaning is unaltered.
I.e., you are encouraged to leave out filling phrases like "uhm, uh, you know" etc.
Ads have to be transcribed as well.

Oh I just read the part about "you know". Adam says that pretty much in every sentence and I've been insisting on including them all along.
3224  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [BOUNTY] 0.15 BTC per transcript of LetsTalkBitcoin on: November 15, 2013, 02:01:39 PM
I think that everyone should do it like me !
If anything is unclear , make your best guess and then just bold it out. The proofreader can then replace the bolded word or just remove the bold if it is wrong.

We've been doing something like that internally. Marking the parts we have doubts about for review by the other person. I catch most of those but in some places I can't make it out either.
3225  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [BOUNTY] 0.15 BTC per transcript of LetsTalkBitcoin on: November 15, 2013, 12:30:16 PM
I have two questions and would appreciate an answer from qwk or kluge:

- Do you include words that are repeated twice? for example:

"That that is the way we do it"

"I tell you it's it's not right"

- What if we can't make out something despite repeated attempts? I am partnering with another guy on one ep and if neither him nor me can make it out despite slowing down the audio, considering context and researching it online what do we put down? Something like "[unclear]"?

US

LOL then that's sweet justice right there, no offence. Most sites, hosts and even CDNs like cloudflare are owned by Americans and they right away ban entire IP ranges from my country. So we are used to seeing these "prove you are human" pages. I guess now you know how it feels..
3227  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Time to move Decimals for Nomenclature and Transaction Fees? on: November 14, 2013, 01:27:41 PM
you cant just lower transaction fees, they are determined by supply and demand

In theory that is correct. But you've got these default amounts in wallets and rules for judging when transaction fees must be paid that are hard coded into the wallet that all the miners are using. So you have to remove these rules or make them adjust automatically to current conditions.
3228  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Time to move Decimals for Nomenclature and Transaction Fees? on: November 14, 2013, 01:23:02 PM
Yes, of course, the transaction fees must decrease as the value rises. What is just dust now could be worth much more in the future.

More than that it has to change automatically and not be dependent on periodic updates by the development teams of qt and other wallets. The reason is that we will see faster and faster increases in the value of bitcoin and the development teams will not be able to keep up. So it has to be automated based on some combination of market price (which may not be possible or too dangerous) or maybe based on difficulty which is also rising.
3229  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Time to move Decimals for Nomenclature and Transaction Fees? on: November 14, 2013, 01:13:11 PM
Gavin has pointed out several times that micropayments aren't a core feature of bitcoin. And they can be achieved via off-chain transactions after all, maybe fee-free.

Ok I don't religiously follow everything he says so I didn't know.

Another thing that needs looking at is this rule here about when transaction fees are required:

"A transaction may be safely sent without fees if these conditions are met:

It is smaller than 10,000 bytes.
All outputs are 0.01 BTC or larger.
Its priority is large enough (see the Technical Info section below)

Transactions need to have a priority above 57,600,000 to avoid the enforced limit (as of client version 0.3.21). This threshold is written in the code as COIN * 144 / 250, suggesting that the threshold represents a one day old, 1 btc coin (144 is the expected number of blocks per day) and a transaction size of 250 bytes. "

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Transaction_fees

So two things that need to be looked at. The rule of 0.01 output and the transaction priority value of 57 mill which is based on the idea of sending a single 1 day old bitcoin. With bitcoin exceeding $400 we can do a lot of significant transactions that will require fees if these hard limits are not addressed.

And don't say that this only applies to bitcoin-qt. All the miners are using bitcoin-qt so these rules apply to everyone.
3230  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 1.9 released on: November 13, 2013, 10:41:10 PM
A few suggestions:
* please make it add the contact automatically when sending

It already does this.

* there is no way to disconnect/reconnect, the network dialog is confusing, what is the "auto connect" option and the list of servers good for if I cannot choose one of them to connect manually?

In the network dialog uncheck auto connect option and then you'll be able to choose a server you like. You can also bring up this dialog box using the green/red icon in the bottom right.
3231  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: bitstamp says i might have malware on my computer on: November 13, 2013, 09:38:24 PM
So bitstamp re directed me to encapsula front page or something, and it asked me to verify that I am human.  But the reason they said they were doing that was because I might have malware on my computer that set this off.

Is that the case or is it just ddos protection?  Did bitstamp detect something wrong with my computer that I am not aware of?

If your ISP assigns you a dynamic IP from a pool of IP addresses you may get wrongly flagged in this manner. So just enter the captcha and make do. The previous person who got the IP did something that got it flagged.

BTW which country are you in?
3232  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Time to move Decimals for Nomenclature and Transaction Fees? on: November 13, 2013, 08:40:02 PM
Right now the transaction fee comes to around Rs. 4.30 or 4 US cents. Since micro transactions are supposed to be one of bitcoin's selling points this fee is too high. If you want to send somebody Rs. 10 you are basically paying more than 40% in fees. Yeah I know no one does that yet but if BTC spreads there might be a use case for that.
3233  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: what do you think of my bitcoin related domains?(not for sale) on: November 13, 2013, 08:34:32 PM
sharingbitcoin.com is probably the only one I like from the OP's list.
3234  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Gap limit setting missing in 1.9? on: November 13, 2013, 08:26:52 PM
Yeah they removed it. Electrum's philosophy seems to be to keep things minimal. I suppose we should respect that. The alternative is Armory and I hear that can be a huge memory hog not to mention the blockchain!
3235  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: sendmany in Electrum on: November 13, 2013, 08:21:01 PM
This is an awesome feature! I am sure it will come in handy.
3236  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: electrum-desktop.com or electrum.org? on: November 13, 2013, 08:19:35 PM
electrum.org
3237  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 1.9 released on: November 13, 2013, 08:14:55 PM
Thanks ThomasV.
3238  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 1.9 released on: November 13, 2013, 08:04:30 PM
So I am updating from the 1.8 branch and have a few questions:

- Where do you toggle between expert mode and normal?

- Gap limit option has been removed, right?

- The copy option under the file menu is the new way to backup the wallet?

- Default wallet has been moved under wallets directory. But what about other wallets? They open fine but I want to know whether they will be "upgraded" in future?

edit: The new send many feature is really awesome!
3239  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How to import electrum.dat file (created with 1.8.1) in Electrum 1.9 ? on: November 13, 2013, 07:11:21 PM
OK thanks, will try this! Can you recover the seed when you have access to your wallet? I did write it down but later mislaid the copy.

Yes you can. There is an option in the menus. But you will need your password.

edit: it's under the wallet menu in 1.9.x.
3240  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: I have $700.00 Stuck in BTC-e and No support, Need Advice - on: November 13, 2013, 03:16:37 PM
I will add more as I think of it but ya that's the gist of it, There has to be something I can do, surely?

Nope. The money is gone. That is the problem with these companies. They don't care enough to read what you've written. Keep trying if it makes you feel any better but don't expect to get the money back or you will surely be disappointed.
