3241  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How long before Gox gets Dwolla back? on: May 18, 2013, 10:08:23 PM
I think they'd have to answer in court and possible pay a fine, maybe even more drastic.

After that is finished they can do it the right way. All in all I think that would take a few months at least. Perhaps around the same time BFL delivers (scnr  Grin)
3242  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: May 18, 2013, 09:19:27 PM
Blocking US ips was a smart move by SatoshiDice. It's not worth the legal risk. Americans can still gamble, they can find out how, the website was garbage anyway.

This has wider percussions than satoshidice though if they are affected so is the entirety of Bitcoin gambling sites operating on clearnet.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but my impression is that this is a small issue (from the censorship perspective). You can just proxy/VPN your way to the site correct? And of course then you are good to go, the bitcoin network gives no fucks about who sends coins to who. Unlike with the online poker situation in previous years where the didn't have bitcoin to get around the funding issues and blocking of payment processors, AFAIK.
Isn't that how conservative gambling sites operate?
Well would still be a legal gray area though. Not that it matters much.

I like it.

I would have made the increasing/decreasing block reward symmetric so that peak reward occurs when half of the currency has been issued. Natural resources are consumed this way, oil, gold, coal, and all the others.
The so called Hubbert Peak.

This is interesting too, can't wait to see how it turns out.
3244  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I think BTC-E should stop trading LTC/USD on: May 18, 2013, 09:04:38 PM
I dont get it, whats the point? if in the same trader you can do BTC/USD, LTC/USD and BTC/LTC, its a no brainer that the only think it do is to create a bot haven making profits from any small margin, here and there.

Maybe they see that as a good reason? After all, they make profit on all transactions..

The balance of the order book can work against you.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean here.. could you explain please?

Doing that with only the last trades wouldn't work since you have to account for the liquidity in the order book to derive the real prices. I  don't really want to give you a tutorial on how to do it.

This is fascinating stuff to me even though I don't have much understanding yet.. thanks for your response.

You can google triangular arbitrage, that what I did, there is a through explanation on wikipedia.

Again, MtGox being incompetent isn't news. It would be news if they weren't.

Every bit increases the known magnitude of incompetence though. God knows how incompetent they really are, at least they managed to stay in business if that means anything.

MtGox/Coinlab lawsuit will likely drag on for years, has very little to do with the market and/or Bitcoin.

Maybe, the sum is quite substantial and I think it can threaten mtgox as a business, perhaps bankruptcy? We don't yet know how the market would be without gox. I'd say it's a considerable risk.

Med/Long term it was good news. People leaving MtGox, moving to other exchanges. We need more bad news for MtGox, so more people will move.

Yes, I agree, at least in terms of what's good for the ecosystem. I don't really have an idea what prices would do when it's gone.
3246  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: May 18, 2013, 08:14:40 PM
I mean then the things that are causing the FUD, turns to facts

Well in case of the current situation there is a considerable amount of it.

People fear that the DHS seizing the mtgox dwolla account wasn't the last of it.
Satoshi dice has blocked the US out of uncertainty.
There is considerable doubt that the mtgox/coinlab deal gonna work out.

That is a fact, look around the related threads. And it is different that somebody coming along writing something like: "Bitcoin is unsafe because everybody can steal the coins, operating systems are unsafe and so is Bitcoin.". The former are concrete events with their respectable outcome. The latter is the infamous "spreading of FUD."
There are two kinds of FUD, the one based on agenda/misinterpretation and the other one based on factual events.
3247  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: May 18, 2013, 07:19:55 PM
what's with all this bearish sentiment.

i guess you been to busy looking at charts to see that bitcoin is on fire!

Most of it comes from the Coinlab lawsuit, the DHS dwolla account freeze and satoshi dice blocking the US.
I think that is a pretty stern combination, but what do I know.  Tongue

CoinLab lawsuit, finally someone with the balls to take over mtgox in the us

DHS dwolla account freeze , yup its official bitcoin is for real.

satoshi dice blocking the US, LOL like thats going to stop anyone

See, you are purposefully missing the point.

Hint: They don't really look like isolated incidents to me.

you're the one missing the point.

Hint: your bitcoins are safe, and when FUD turns to facts...  Grin Grin Grin

Yes what happens when Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt turns to facts?

Does anybody see anything other than this same flat trend, that could very well last through the weekend?  Up, down, sideways?

Yes, I do. I have a magical indicator that can see into the future  Tongue I am posting what the indicator tells me.

Sorry, I couldn't resist Smiley

Is that a wavelet transform?

It's called triangular arbitrage, it may seem trivial but it is not.

So you don't want a profit opportunity to be there for anybody else because you are to stupid/lazy to exploit it? You better deal with it.
3254  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: May 17, 2013, 11:18:46 PM
I'm not a day trader but I follow the this thread (ie. the best thread to keep up to date in bitcoin and recent events) but as my spare time is limited I struggle to follow every page.

I'd just like to know what peoples opinions are on why the price is currently going up. My feeling is people buying in anticipation on what this weekends events will produce?

I'd start a separate thread but I've been lurking around here for a few years now and have learned that this thread is the best source of opinions (in my opinion  Wink).

there's a lot going on, and its all being down played by the "bad news" that the government is starting to regulate the cash flow out of bitcoin.
IMO the fact that government is taking notice is a good thing, and i see big projects in the works, with some real funding backing it up, this will have serious consequences for bitcoin.

when the FUD turns to Facts, bitcoin will blast off with more force then we have ever seen before.

Some times Fear Uncertainty and Doubt is warranted. And when it does it is wise to act with caution.
3255  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: May 17, 2013, 10:04:12 PM
Someone is slowly offloading a lot of coins on Bitstamp at pretty reasonable prices...

The rats are leaving the ship.
I think we can go as high as 20% cross exchange spread and gox under 50% of volume.
3256  Economy / Speculation / Re: Possible Mtgox.com Domain Seizure by US Authorities? on: May 17, 2013, 08:58:31 PM
"The domain was originally administered by the United States Department of Defense, but is today operated by Verisign, and remains under ultimate jurisdiction of US law.[2][3][4] Verisign Registrations in com are processed via registrars accredited by ICANN. The registry accepts internationalized domain names."  --wikipedia

com stands for commercial btw.
3257  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: May 17, 2013, 08:42:04 PM
Has anybody else noticed the ultra short term inverse relationship between mtgox <-> btce?

When gox goes up btce goes down and verse visa.
3258  Economy / Speculation / Re: Possible Mtgox.com Domain Seizure by US Authorities? on: May 17, 2013, 08:17:06 PM
i don't understand how usa could seize a site that's not even in the usa???

answer me this
Actually, they can since it's a .com domain, doesn't matter where it was registered.

Only ccTLDs are safe from the US government.

Having their shit together usually means posting details without ambiguity on a blog, publishing documentation on the site and releasing a functioning product to the public first hand.

So no they do not have their shit together.
But it's good to have another exchange, even if it's full of bullshit and act-if professionalism.

Oh btw is this Max Kaisers Brainchild?
