3261  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: BitMinter client (Win/Linux/Mac, NEW: BFL ASIC and Block Erupter USB supported) on: September 05, 2013, 01:29:16 PM
Hi,
I started on the .333 usb sticks, and BitMinter was the only mining program that would work with them on XP, despite successful installs of the other products.

First: each .333 Ghs stick takes 0.5 amps to run.  That means you need a powered hub to run them. I use the DLink powered hub which has 7 slots and 6 amps total, which means one usb slot per power hub has to stay open.

So my first suggestion to see if it can run at all is to use a powered hub and see if it clears up the mining software issues, because if there is not enough juice to activate hardware, software can malfunction.

Second: start with only one in the hub.

Third: expect to have to install at least two different sets of drivers until the item is found (But given it doesn't see the stick in the usb, I would say it is underpowered).  I have found success with Silicon Graphics USBXpress_SDK.exe which automatically installs the drivers for you I think I remember.

These were far more successful than the CP210x_VCP_Windows drivers I think.

Hope this helps, and come back as you make progress. Thanks.
Drunken Afficianado

Thanks for the info on optional drivers. That should do it.
I just heard yesterday a guy measured the USB's when under heavy hashing and they run up to 1A!

On a different computer, I still got the same errors...

Can you try bfgminer? There is a link at the frontpage of https://bitminter.com to get it and you can run it from the command line like so:

Code:
bfgminer -o stratum+tcp://mint.bitminter.com:3333 -u user_worker -p password

At this point I would think the erupter stick is broken, but there has been 1 user reporting that bfgminer works for him and not BitMinter client.

IMO-Something to do with the MB controllers etc. with Bitminter.

Since I noticed that it has been asked in here twice ...
No, no cgminer support for the USB Blades.
We've never even seen the things or had any contact from anyone.
Afaik bfgminer supports the blades somehow... But not 100% sure, will have to chat with Luke about it.
Blades also have their own interface where you can configure hashing, again needs to be written up by someone who gets the new blade soon

A Guide will be on it's way soon as they get it here.

3265  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Block Erupter Blade (New Model)]Low Price, Limited Quantity on: September 03, 2013, 08:38:46 AM
4 btc/$560 cost basis for 10gh + starting difficulty 88,000,000 + only 15% per difficulty increase = $27 profit after 12 months.  No go.

Mining is dead, long live mining!

What calculations for % gain in BTC price?
3266  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Block Erupter Blade (New Model)]Low Price, Limited Quantity on: September 03, 2013, 05:43:06 AM
...
Do you know what happens when an ASIC manufacturer doesn't charge the most they can charge (ie. "market price")?

What happens is what we saw with Avalon devices: people buying devices for $1,000 from Avalon, and selling them on eBay for $10,000.

So you've got a choice. Either let the manufacturer make the money or let some random buyer make the money. Who do you think deserves it the most?
Who?

The bitcoin community who buys the mining equipment.

If the bitcoin community didn't exist, FriedCat would be leftovers in the trash can out the back of your local restaurant.

Basically, companies like AsicMiner and Avalon are pretty much on target to destroy the Bitcoin community in the near future.

I would not be the slightest bit surprised if Bitcoin either had next to no mining community in 12 months, or bitcoin was itself dead and gone.

At the moment AsicMiner is a short sighted attempt to grab as much cash and BTC as possible and doesn't give a damn about the bitcoin community except how much it can damage it by fleecing it of as much BTC as possible.

I will also point out that AsicMiner only started to sell hardware under duress.
I guess they took that duress and shoved it where the sun don't shine for everyone who bought AMUs and most people who bought blades.

Yes of course some people will buy devices and sell them on ebay for more.
But deriding that is directly deriding AsicMiner for doing the exact same thing to literally everyone who buys hardware from them.

P.S. tell me where above I am wrong ...

BTC will need to go up in price that makes it still advantageous to mine or the entire concept does not work.
Looks like BTC will be on target to do just that as it's getting close to a 24/7 Global buying of BTC by the entire civilized world. 200,000,000 increase in market cap in last few months.
It's just a baby learning to sprint...

So this is the "Block Erupter Blade (New Model)" thread right? I got confused, i thought it was the "every other thread where people compare one vendor to another which drives the OP very very far off topic" thread.

But anyway, i thought the new blades had USB? And as someone mentioned and someone else quoted (i cant find it now because there are too many tardfight posts) asking if you need cgminer or it is self sustained.

And also the other post asking about where to get the backplane.

Why should it has USB ? Thats soooo stupid. Its a standalone unit.. USB would requite a PC to host it.

Maybe an option for those new to mining wanting only one or a few easily hooked up???

Yeah thats stupid. It would require that you have a host pc 24/7 runnning. With this blade design you just connect them to your router and its done..

It's that easy?
I hope someone posts a tutorial.

That is for the old blade, will do one for the new ones once friedcat gets me some samples over but they're pretty similar.

Awesome and Thanks!

Looking Forward to it as I'm not the most inclined.

Hi, I'm trying to make my usb asicminer block erupter work with the bitminter client.
I have the silabs drivers installed, and my computer can recognize the miner.
However, the bitminter client returns the error "Probe of port COM3 failed: timeout".
Any ideas on what's wrong?

CTL-ALT -Delete bitminter as it erases any hangups.
Uninstall drivers reboot reinstall drivers plug usb in port restart bitminter few times as well as unplug and replug usb.
That you can do first too.

Mostly underpowered ports....

How many blades can fit into one medium flat rate box and large?
This is a good question that keeps popping up.
Until I have the new blades in hand and can experiment with packing, I can't tell you for certain.
But it's safe to guess that some amount of blades should fit into medium and large priority boxes

Shipping info will be posted on OP and post #2 when it's available

The Blades are assembled and may not fit in a Medium box.
Well an 81/2" by 11" that is...
3272  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Block Erupter Blade (New Model)]Low Price, Limited Quantity on: September 02, 2013, 06:28:39 PM

One back-plane will be provided per ten Block Erupter Blade (New Model).

Will there be an option to purchase back planes separately?

The resellers may not have enough for those wanting to use the backplane for 4-8 Blades.
3273  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [OPEN] Group Buy #12 NEW Blade Miners 4 BTC or less! on: September 01, 2013, 11:18:40 PM
So any word on the powersupply? Everything I've looked up concerning the blade's power shows how to hook it up using a atx PSU and the green connector. I would like to know about this mysterious "gold finger" connector and it's powersuppy. It sounds like it comes with one now and I just want a confirmation if I need to buy a ATX PSU or not.

GooolllldFiiiinggeeeerrrrrr......!

Yep! Been buying them since Early June,  They have always had the colored sticker on them. I had a problem with a Direct reseller that the seals were cracked.. I stopped buying from them unless he has them in stock to ship now and canary is OOS. I would rather pay a dollar or 2 extra for integrety.

Name & Shame!

Many are mining with them till they sell out.

this batch is closed no more orders for USB miners.

Will there be a new group or was that your last one?
i'll open up a new one

I think he has the hots for someone at the post office. He sure spends enough time there! =P

Could also be he's getting his CDL to transport the miners.

MikeMike what power supply you use to dlink work with 7 erupters?

I saw someone post a switching power supply for like 9-14.00
Just figure the correct amps you need and you should be good to go.

The posts are either here or another thread.
IF I find it I will let you know.

9-14.00? What is this?

I think it's in this thread...
Look a sale!

3279  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [OPEN - IN STOCK - SHIPPING] batch #22/23 ASICMiner USB + Blade miners on: August 28, 2013, 01:36:54 PM
Wow, almost 10TH delivered so far? That is amazing

10th = 2% of the network speed those little usb sticks sure add up and thats not including all the other distributors including europe & asia
the best thing that can happen for bitcoin is to have 7 billion of USB stick miners out there instead of concentrated hashing locations that are 25%+ of the network...
all these new companies are chasing the wrong crowd with complex equipment...

yeah   if we had about 20 pools with  4% each and a few million miners with 10-20 sticks or 1 or 2 blades it would be better then  2 or 3   100th places like cloudhashing.

The big group  big pool is very tempting to attack.    3 pools with  50% of the hash beg for ddos attacks

 http://blockchain.info/pools

right now btc guild 50 btc and deepbit add up to 50%

a well planned ddos with 200 blocks before adjustment  is very tempting. take out the 3 mentioned pools 12 hours before adjustment and the rest of the miners  have easy pickings.  Having 20 pools at the 3-5 % level would truly end this incentive.

It's not the DDOS attack that's the problem with being centrally located...
