Chinese Teenager Held Under House Arrest Before He Could Escape to United States
Communist Party continues sweeping crackdown on rights lawyers and their families

The teenage son of a detained rights lawyer in China is now being held under house arrest after he attempted to seek entry into the United States, according to reports.

Bao Zhuoxuan, 16, is under surveillance by authorities at his grandparents’ house in Inner Mongolia, a region of northern China. Police first seized Bao earlier this month in Burma near the Chinese border.

Fengsuo Zhou, a U.S. citizen and human rights activist, told the New York Times that he had planned to meet Bao in Bangkok, Thailand, and help him escape to America.

Bao is the son of Wang Yu, a prominent rights lawyer in China. Authorities detained Wang in July as part of a sweeping crackdown by the Communist Party against more than 300 rights lawyers and activists. More than 20, including Wang, remain in custody.

Bao’s case is emblematic of Chinese authorities’ attempts to end the rights lawyer movement by targeting their families. According to a new report from the Congressional-Executive Commission on China in the United States, police seized Bao’s passport in July at the Beijing Capital International Airport and detained his father, Bao Longjun, before they could travel to Australia, where Bao planned to attend high school.

Ory Abramowicz, spokesman for the State Department, told the Washington Free Beacon that the United States is concerned about the reports of Bao’s house arrest.

“We urge China to uphold its international human rights commitments and protect the health and safety of this minor child,” he said in a statement. “We are also disturbed by a seemingly systematic campaign by China to target family members of Chinese citizens who peacefully challenge official policy and work to protect the rights of others.”

“If Bao Zhuoxuan’s family wishes him to study abroad like hundreds of thousands of other Chinese students, China should permit him to leave the country,” he continued. “We call on China to remove restrictions on Bao Zhuoxuan’s freedom of movement, and again urge China to release Wang Yu and Bao Longjun without condition.”

Activists say Chinese President Xi Jinping has initiated the worst repression since former dictator Mao Zedong in an attempt to strengthen the Party’s grip on society. Human rights lawyers, activists, religious and ethnic minorities, and all dissenters from the Party have been targeted.

U.S. lawmakers and Chinese dissidents have urged the Obama administration to publicly raise the cases of political prisoners and press their counterparts in Beijing on rights abuses. Rep. Chris Smith (R., N.J.), chairman of the China commission, said earlier this month that, “U.S. leadership on human rights is needed now more than ever” amid the Chinese government’s “extraordinary assault” against its own people.

However, Obama has often been criticized for subordinating the issue of human rights to other economic and security concerns in dialogues with the Chinese. Xi’s first official state visit to Washington went ahead last month despite calls from rights groups to cancel the summit unless prisoners were released.

White House officials raised white sheets around Obama and Xi’s press conference during the visit, blocking protesters from a view of the Chinese leader.

State Department spokesman John Kirby reiterated on Wednesday that “The United States is concerned about media reports that Bao Zhuoxuan, the son of detained rights lawyer Wang Yu and her detained husband Bao Longjun, is being held under house arrest in Inner Mongolia, China.” He told reporters at a press briefing that U.S. officials urge their Chinese counterparts to “protect the health and safety of this minor child” and allow him freedom of movement, including the ability to leave the country.

Trey Gowdy Wipes The Smile Off The Face Of Smug Cecile Richards…

Cecile Richards did her best to defend the baby chop shop known as Planned Parenthood, until she ran into the buzz saw known as Trey Gowdy.

The Planned Parenthood president appeared before Congress Tuesday to put the best face possible on her organization after the release of undercover videos showing the group selling body parts of aborted babies, but she was tripping over her words when Gowdy got her on the ropes.

In trademark Gowdy style, the South Carolina Republican attempted to make Richards understand why some people oppose Planned Parenthood’s continued killing of unborn babies, but Richards was smug and defiant.

Until one exchange when she said, with a smile, “We don’t believe that women’s health or women’s rights should be a partisan issue.”

“And we don’t think eating dinner salads and drinking wine while you’re discussing infanticide…we have a problem with that too,” Gowdy fired back, wiping the smile off of her face.

our entire society is a cesspool of corrupt assholes that cannot offer a truthful answer to save their lives.

sick part is, these are the people that rise through a system that recognizes that this is how big money is made, by hiding the truth, by spinning a message to the masses and hanging doggedly onto that message even in the face of something as reprehensible as this.  that's what they pay for.  and it's about as sick and twisted as is possible.

Trump: That Hillary Clinton did all right last night, huh?

“She got through it fine,” he said by phone this morning. “It was a very kind debate, very gentle. She came out the winner.”

Trump said Sen. Bernie Sanders should have attacked Clinton more and that their on-stage handshake was a mistake. “I think that he’s losing by quite a bit; he shouldn’t have done it,” Trump said of the Sanders-Clinton handshake prompted by Sanders’ saying Americans are tired of hearing about the “damn emails” that continues to dog her campaign.

That was a curious move, and it’s not surprising to see Trump focus on it as a sign of weakness in Sanders. Whether he intended it or not, it sent the message that Hillary would end up being the nominee, and that Sanders would play along when she eventually sends him out to pasture. It’s all the more curious, coming after Hillary’s pounding of Sanders on gun control and on capitalism, which may have been the most surprising moment of the night from Hillary. Trump doesn’t mention it, but Sanders’ lack of response to those two attacks sent the same message. Sanders isn’t in it to win it — he’s in it to score a few points and return to the back bench whence he came.

National Journal’s Ron Fournier thinks Hillary won, too — mainly through deception:

The embattled front-runner won herself a news cycle or two, because she stretched the truth and played to a friendly audience. It won’t always be so.

It took more than an hour before CNN’s Anderson Cooper asked Clinton about the covert email system she established as secretary of State in defiance of federal regulations, subverting the Freedom of Information Act, thwarting congressional oversight, and jeopardizing U.S. secrets. And, even then, her chief rival offered Clinton cover. …

Professional Democrats and the party’s strongest voters are certainly tired of hearing about the email scandal, but it’s not going to go away—not with the FBI investigating whether confidential information was mishandled under Clinton’s system, and not with independent voters losing faith in Clinton’s word.

Character and judgment are gateway political issues. An untrustworthy candidate might check all your policy boxes, might tickle your ideological buttons, and might even grind away long enough to get your vote—but you’re not going to like it.
That is Clinton’s problem. Like it was in 2008, her character is the issue that threatens to consume all others.

In other words, she won a brief respite, not the battle. But what she also won was a concession from everyone else on the stage last night that they won’t attack her on that most vulnerable point in her armor. Only Lincoln Chafee made a passing and oblique reference to being scandal-free; the rest of the field refused to engage on Clinton’s character. They had an opportunity to burst the Hillary bubble, but instead they crawled inside of it and pretending it didn’t exist.

As Fournier notes, that won’t be the case if/when Hillary has to compete against the Republican nominee. But for one night, Hillary won in large part because her opponents declined to compete, and Sanders all but conceded on stage. Trump got this one exactly right.

----------------------------------------------------------
It was clear sanders has no intention to win this. Clinton is her master.

Climate Change Deniers ARE WORSE THAN HOLOCAUST DENIERS

All that is true, but there’s a further point worth making: climate change denial is actually much worse than Holocaust denial. Holocaust denial deals with the deaths of millions in the past, which it did nothing to cause, however morally odious it surely is.

Global warming denial deals with the deaths of millions in the future, which it helps to cause, by crippling efforts to prevent them. And that’s something much worse, as is reflected in law: It’s not a crime to lie about murders in the past, except to hinder a police investigation, or prosecution; but it is a crime to tell enabling lies about future murders—it’s called conspiracy to commit murder.

Bolivia To The UN: Capitalism Must Be Destroyed To Fight Climate Change

The Aral Sea wasn't destroyed by capitalism, but by socialism

Bolivia's ten structural solutions to the climate crisis:

1. Adoption of a new model of civilisation in the world without consumerism, war-mongering, and mercantilism, a world without capitalism; build and consolidate a world order of Living Well that defends and promotes the integral rights of our peoples, undertaking the path of harmony with nature and respect for life.
2. Construction of a climate system based on responsibility to Mother Earth, the culture of life and the full realization of humanity in their holistic development, humanising the economy, surpassing the simplistic approach to decarbonisation of the economy.
3. Protection of the Rights of Mother Earth in an articulated and complementary manner to the rights of peoples to their development.
4. Defense of universal common goods such as the seas and oceans, water, atmospheric space, as well as the technological monopoly, promoting people's access to the common heritage.
5. Elimination of patents on technologies and recognition of the human right to science and technology of life.
6. Effective implementation by governments of the human right to water.
7. Establishment of the International Court of Justice Climate and Mother Earth to enable countries to fulfill their international commitments to climate change in a context of respect for the rights of peoples and of Mother Earth.
8. Allocate the resources of the military machinery of the imperial powers and the war-mongers to finance the activities of the peoples against climate change.
9. Eradication of commodification of nature and carbon markets promoting business climate millionaires, which do not solve the problem of the climate crisis.
10. Decolonize natural resources environmental colonial biased views that see the peoples of the South as forest rangers of Northern countries and communities as enemies of nature.

3275  Other / Politics & Society / Feds Sentence Oregon Ranchers to 5 Years in Prison for Setting Preventative Fire on: October 14, 2015, 05:35:54 PM

Today two Oregon ranchers were sentenced to five years in federal prison under terrorism statutes for setting preventative fires on their own land. We are gravely disappointed at this outcome.

Elderly Harney County rancher Dwight Hammond and his son, Steven, a former OFB Board member and Harney County Farm Bureau president, have already served time in federal prison for their mistakes and paid their debt to society for the less-than-140 acres of BLM land that was accidentally impacted by the fires.

This is an example of gross government overreach, and the public should be outraged.

Today’s verdict is also hypocritical given BLM’s own harm to public and private grazing lands, which goes without consequence. It is unjust. OFB worked on this case quietly behind the scenes with BLM through the spring and summer. That diligent diplomatic effort was fruitless.

This prosecution will have a chilling effect across the West among ranchers, foresters, and others who rely on federal allotments and permits. It will harm the positive relationship many ranchers and organizations have worked to forge with the BLM, and undermine the cooperative spirit most ranchers have brought to the bureau in helping the health of the range.

Michael Crichton, world’s most famous global warming denier, dies

Famed global warming denier and science-fiction author, Michael Crichton, has died in Los Angeles. He became famous as a pulse-pounding writer who helped create the techno-thriller genre with best-sellers (and hit movies) like Jurassic Park and The Andromeda Strain.

Then he used his fame in the most destructive way possible — to cast doubt on the overwhelming scientific understanding of global warming, to urge people not to take action against the gravest preventable threat to the health and well-being of future generations.

Seems like some people on some sides of issues would protect that flavor of terrorist.

I wonder who has the rights to make a movie out of the book... so to never let a State of Fear movie be a reality.

Why, such a movie must never, never be.  Else people would start talking about the fact it isn't warming.  And is that permissible?

NO!  Just look at this excellent work on devastation of coast lines.

German Migrants Sues Asylum Center For Not Giving Them Money Fast Enough

Twenty migrants have sued the Berlin State Office for Health and Social Affairs because they had to wait more than a week to register their asylum cases and receive welfare handouts. They are demanding instant payment.

Germany is struggling to cope with the 1.5 million migrants it expects to absorb this year and those arriving in Berlin often have to wait days if not weeks to be registered at asylum centres.

The group of twenty who have decided to sue claim they have had to wait more than a week. Their “urgent application” has been confirmed by a court spokesman, Die Welt reports.

‘CLOCK BOY’ AHMED MAKES IT TO MECCA WITH SAUDI FUNDS AND PUSHES U.S. ‘ISLAMOPHOBIA’ NARRATIVE

“Clock boy” Ahmed Mohamed made it to Mecca Friday for umrah, the Arabic word for pilgrimage, the portion of his Middle Eastern tour sponsored by the Saudi government. The trip also included the 14-year-old’s parents and other relatives, including one uncle who pushed the Islamophobia narrative.

The uncle, identified by Arab News as Moussa Al-Hassan, asserted: “The ordinary American citizen lives in a state of fear of Arabs because of the American media’s portrayal of him as an extremist terrorist.”

At King Abdul Aziz International Airport in Jeddah on Friday morning, Ahmed thanked the Saudi government for its invitation “to visit the Kingdom to perform Umrah and meet his relatives,” according to Ummid, an Indian news organization. Ahmed recycled a comment made to American news outlets, telling Middle Eastern reporters: “It was really sad that she took the wrong impression of it and I got arrested.” He meant his English teacher who became alarmed when the plugged in unconventional looking homemade clock experiment started to beep in her class.

Ummid editorialized: “Local police insisted that Mohammed’s ethnicity had nothing to do with the decision to arrest him on suspicion of bringing a hoax bomb to school.” Breitbart Texas reported the arrest resulted out of federal and state safe school acts plus district Student Code of Conduct zero tolerance policies, not racism or Islamophobia.

Mohamed is the 14-year-old Sudanese immigrant who brought a homemade suitcase clock into a suburban Dallas high school. The unassigned project, a 120 volt mass of circuitry and wires crafted from a commercially dissembled clock, resembled a “hoax bomb,” prompting the teen’s arrest. Although no charges were filed, MacArthur High School suspended him for three days after which the family withdrew from the Irving Independent School District.

Earlier this month, Ahmed visited Qatar, invited by the Qatar Foundation (QF) for Education, Science and Community Development, founded by Al Jazeera creator Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who is closely associated with the Muslim Brotherhood and opposes what he calls the “Judaization of Jerusalem” in referencing the Jewish Holy City and Israeli capitol. In late 2012, the New York Times reported Al Thani pledged $400 million to fund Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Last week, Mohamed Elhassan Mohamed, family patriarch, shared 9/11 truther posts on his Facebook wall.

The clockmeister toured Al Thani’s namesake Hamad bin Khalifa University, followed by satellite campuses for Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ) and Carnegie Mellon, according to a QF press release.

This week, the teen and his family are expected to return stateside, meeting with President Obama and attending the White House astronomy night. Despite all the hype Ahmed put out over social media about bringing the clock-in-a-box to the White House, Irving police spokesman James McLellan confirmed for Breitbart Texas that “to the best of my knowledge,” the family has not yet retrieved the clock.

Since the week of Sept. 14, officers attempted to reach the Mohameds directly and through Anthony Cody, a local activist and family friend, who presented himself to law enforcement as a family representative, according to McLellan. On Sept. 23, Irving PD spoke to news media, debunking the family’s claims that the police will not release the timepiece. McLellan again emphasized to Breitbart Texas that Ahmed’s project is “not being withheld.”

Ahmed also filmed a promotional video to come meet “the clockmaker” at the Islamophobia touting Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) Oct. 17 “Champions for Justice” 21st Anniversary banquet held in Arlington, VA.
