Grin experienced a network level attack during the night of Nov 7-8, where an entity acquired enough hash power to perform reorg attacks.
@mcmmike and @deev authored an incident report that gives further details.
The community discussed and solidified its stance regarding 51% attacks back in July when we were warned about the risk when another project was attacked. The position was and remains that Grin would rather suffer a 51% attack than adopt an unsound longest chain rule.
It’s not unreasonable to expect further attacks to follow. As for any proof of work mined coin, before accepting a large amount transaction as valid, you should wait for a high number of confirmations.
On this basis, @energyburn proposes a mitigation with Dynamic TX confirmation times in the wallet.

They could be running a honey pot site and get that many customers to "reveal" nothing very interesting.

If your concerned about your transaction being traced I would wait until this issue is handled, using a remote node even if trusted is not recommended. If you don't care if the transaction ever gets revealed then go for it. If I was a devious person and wanted to attack the mindshare of Monero I would compromise trusted nodes and then insert a bug that herded people use those nodes. Then I would use that information to expose transactions and fud the project. I'm sure this isn't what happened but if you wear a tinfoil hat then this is a thought. |

So went down to the local bitcoin ATM to pick up a thousand in either litecoin or bitcoin. First the owner changed and now it only does BTC. Second their fucking buy price was $14,600 and sell price of $18,500. Fuck you does not begin to describe my thoughts on this matter :-)
Maybe it's time to go get a real exchange account tied to a real bank and passport and a sample of my nutter butter. For a US cit, what's the valid options these days?

How many times have we seen Monero sort of decoupled from the alts? It ran up on it's own a couple weeks back, and now is not joining in on the alt rebound.
Seems like this happens more often to Monero than others... then again it's a non-scientific subjective observation.
I am assuming there is a lot of sell pressure into which the alt rally is pushing?

Stocking up on coins with no history, interesting. Doubt they care about history. Most likely subsidizing the electricity, then requiring miners to sell for their useless fiat.
