3281  Economy / Economics / Re: Russian Gas ban - A problem for Europe or suicide for Russia? on: June 09, 2023, 02:45:29 AM
The oil situation will change, as will the gas situation. Look where it has fallen. Plus OPEC+ openly declares that there is VERY much oil. The way out is either to drastically reduce production, or believe in a miracle. But to drastically reduce production is not an easy question, there are problems ranging from "physical" to financial. That's why you can't just turn on the oil tap.

For russia it is a loss of real income even from today's minuscule selling price. The "measures" taken by russia, give them today in the most optimistic calculation about 12 billion dollars of losses per year. This is a huge amount for russia today, when 30+% now goes to war, and the budget has lost about 40% of foreign exchange earnings.

For the OPEC+ members, a net reduction would also bring down their revenues. The problem is that until China gives a sign that its economy is recovering - there will be no growth in oil demand ! And judging by what is happening in China - its economy is still far from recovery or at least a positive trend.

The problem for OPEC+ is that the demand for oil hasn't yet recovered to pre-pandemic levels. This is due to a number of reasons, and employees preferring to work from home and hybrid system of work is one of the causes. And China's slow economic recovery is another reason. Oil producers don't have any option other than to reduce their production. Else the crude oil prices will go below the $70 per barrel level. Even now, with all the production cuts and reduced output from Russia, oil has struggled to move past $80 per barrel since April this year.

3282  Economy / Economics / Re: Russia and others, move to use Yuan instead of dollar. on: June 09, 2023, 02:35:10 AM
^^^ ₹147 billion translates to $1.78 billion US Dollars. That is around 5% of the annual trade turnover between India and Russia. And moreover, this surplus was accumulated in the first few months of the war, when the Russian traders failed to notice that the Indian Rupee is not fully convertible. Now all the trades between India and Russia are being settled in United Arab Emirates Dirham or the US Dollar. For the Rupees that has been accumulated earlier, Russia can use them to pay for Indian exports. Exports from India to Russia amount to around $3.5 billion per year.
3283  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 on: June 09, 2023, 02:25:55 AM
It looks that you don't follow women football at all. Argentina isn't powerhouse here, their chances to win  is same like Zambia, Vietnam or Haiti, rated at odds @501. If Argentina will get out from group somehow, it would be almost like miracle.

Agreed. In women's football, Argentina is not one of the top teams. I checked the odds for this event, and it looks like USA, England and Spain are the most favored ones.

https://www.forbes.com/betting/soccer/womens-world-cup-2023/

USA: +225
England: +300
Spain: +600
Germany: +700
France: +900

I checked the schedule and was surprised to see teams like Haiti, Philippines and Vietnam. The women's edition seems to be much more diverse, when compared to the men's edition. They provided only 3 slots to CONMEBOL, and that was my only complaint. BTW, FIFA hasn't increased the number of participants for the women's world cup. Even for the 2027 event, the number of participants stand at 32 (for the men's event it has been increased to 48).

He is playing for Gujrat and the narrative is clear from which source these hatred originates. Who knows whether he was forced to do so to retain his place in the squad and then come up with the normal narrative that the account is hacked  Grin.

He was hit for 5 consecutive sixes by Rinku Singh, when Gujarat Titans played against Kolkata Knight Riders. According to news report Yash Dayal underwent a mental breakdown after that and Hardik Pandya made the following statement about him:

https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/new-updates/ipl-2023-yash-dayals-condition-reportedly-not-good-lost-7-8-kilos-weight-heres-why/articleshow/99793383.cms

He lost 8 kg in just a few weeks, and it shows that his physical/mental state was not good. The best thing to do for GT was to rest him for the remainder of the season, but Hardik took the decision to include him in the playing XI for two more matches towards the end. That might have added to his stress levels. Hopefully he will make a comeback during the next season.
3285  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Saudi Professional League 2022/2023 on: June 09, 2023, 02:05:41 AM
Karim Benzema moved to Saudi Professional League when he does not have sharp drop in his performance like Cristiano Ronaldo. He is younger than Cristiano and is a professional player too but such time will come with all players. Ibrahimovic just retired days ago, Cristiano struggled with his body, strength and performance in the last one year and soon Benzema will not be able to beat strength of time and ageing.

However now Al Itihad and Saudi Professional League will have chance to watch one of greatest football players for a while. With Benzema, Cristiano will have more pressure in individual race (best scorer) and team race in this league.

Not sure about the performance though. Karim Benzema is 35 years old and age-wise he is not much younger than Ronaldo. Saudi Professional League should not be a refuge for all those players who are looking for a big fat paycheck towards the end of their career. That is why I liked the contract signed between N'Golo Kante and Al-Ittihad (worth €100 million). Kante is 32 years old and still has a lot of time left in his career. The long term plan of Saudis is to be able to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup. I have to say that they are moving in the right direction.

But I think that's not even funny, these people were migrating to Qatar just to earn money and send for their family because they couldn't a good job in their countries.
This world cup in Qatar was very much dirty and there was a lot of blood in the sports facilities they build no matter how shiny the sports facilities are but the fact is FIFA should never allow a country like Qatar how the world cup again.
That's why I think choosing America was the best they could do.

https://www.nytimes.com/2022/11/16/sports/soccer/world-cup-migrant-workers.html

~~~
The image you had posted is spine chilling. A lot of young people lost their lives out there. I agree that countries like Qatar are unlikely to host the world cup ever again. There were bids from 5 countries for hosting the 2022 edition of the FIFA World Cup. The last round voting was done between Qatar and the United States. And this is where Qataris bribed some of the delegates from Asia-Pacific and Africa to gain crucial votes. In the end, they defeated USA by a margin of 14-8. Saudi Arabia is looking forward to host the event in 2030. I don't have any issues with them, because they are trying their best to integrate themselves with the modern world, unlike the case with Qatar.
3287  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: June 09, 2023, 01:44:06 AM
For the second consecutive day, the Indians have performed poorly. They did a decent job by bowling out Australia for a total of less than 500. But then, in a pitch that supports batting, they are 151/5 at the end of second day's play. And don't forget the fact that this time their playing XI contains three genuine tailenders - Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj. So a lot will depend on Ajinkya Rahane and Srikar Bharat, and also on Shardul Thakur who is about to come next. India still need another 118 runs to avoid the follow on.
3288  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: June 09, 2023, 01:33:32 AM
Afghanistan have got the Afghanistan cricket board that is being found in 1995. It became the full member of the ICC during the year 2017. At the beginning cricket is banned and by the year 2000 it got exception. Amidst all the political and other problems, the country slowly progressed and have reached a better position. The team have got the problem of playing without much support from the government. Pakistan's situation is far better and the government is really supportive as it is one among the way through which the government is able to generate revenue.
I don't think that there is any lack of government support in Afghanistan. The takeover by Taliban hasn't affected the domestic cricket system. However, it had an impact on the fund inflows from the ICC. Funds that are earmarked to Afghanistan are currently on hold and their players are not receiving their salaries as a result. And ICC members such as Australia and England will not allow the inflows to resume unless the Taliban regime gives assurances regarding women's cricket. Lack of funds might have impacted their performance.
3289  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: It's on! 2024 US Presidential Election Biden+Harris Vs Trump Bitcoin betting.... on: June 09, 2023, 01:23:35 AM
I think most of the latest elections have been like that in a way.
Basically people voting for "the other" candidate because they simply dislike the alternative, instead of voting for specific people.
It's a divided country, and every year it gets more and more polarized. I hope they can see some sense from the other side because at the end of the day there are more similarities than differences.
There is no doubt that the American society is extremely polarized at this point. And if the candidates are from the two opposite poles of the political spectrum, then it will polarize the voters even further. Trump, without any doubt is considered to be many as far-right. Biden was considered as a moderate (or centrist) back in 2020, but now his reputation has changed as a result of policies related to immigration and climate change. So once again in 2024, it is going to be a deeply divided society voting for its president, and the loser is not going to accept the defeat.
Messi isn't going to Saudi Arabia, He's going to MLS. The money is the only only thing that the Saudis have to offer, the quality of football is relatively lower than that of the MLS. The MLS is more competitive.
~~~

Yeah... I saw that news (regarding Inter Miami) after I made my post. Now the picture is clear regarding Messi. That said, I disagree with you regarding Saudi league. A number of star players are moving to different Saudi clubs and the quality as of now is not that bad. And in the next 2-3 years, I would assume that the quality of the league would be comparable with major European leagues such as the EPL and Ligue 1. Anyway, I am 100% sure that the Saudi Professional League is much more competent than Major League Soccer.

No one gets suspended for posting anything on social media. Indian players do not handle their own social media. There is always a PR team that works on it. For him GT would provide that PR team. If you want to blame someone then blame GT. The rivalry that was created between Kohli and Navin was all part of PR. It's unfortunate that a political issue was posted from a IPL players Instagram handle. The first principal of a player is to be always remain away from politics. The reason behind cricket fans only have one religion and that is cricket.

I can't recall anyone facing action for posting something in social media, but I remember KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya getting suspended for a few matches after they made some offensive remarks during one of the TV shows. And I agree that Indian players don't handle their social media pages. Players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma do have dedicated teams for doing it. But I don't think that Yash Dayal has this luxury. He is yet to appear for India, and his IPL contract is worth just ₹3.2 crore per year. I don't think that someone else is managing his account.
3292  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: June 08, 2023, 03:28:40 PM
@Sithara007 I believe that the player’s are impacted psychologically due to their home condition’s cause they were performing decent before the invasion took place. Furthermore despite minimal facilities they do have lots of talented player’s but lack of strategy and proper guidance is effecting their growth hence I feel that they can improve a lot if they’re provided good facilities.

This is not a valid argument, IMO. In that case the Afghan players should perform poorly in the IPL as well, right? On the other hand, Rashid Khan was one of the top wicket takers in IPL, and many of the other Afghan players like Naveen ul Haq and Noor Ahmed also performed quite well. And in terms of quality, playing in IPL is much tougher when compared to playing against Sri Lanka. Not sure what happened with the Afghan national team. They need to improve their batting. It has been their weak point for quite some time now.

Bhen Ch*d these guys don't take these WTC Finals seriously at all.

No practice matches before both finals, bas muh utha kar pahuch jayenge IPL se. Really pisses me off despite having so much talent and working their ass off in 2 full cycles they always let down everyone in the finals. Then they will say we lost because of bowling.

No Axar and Ashwin to bail you out so Koach and Puji need to step up big time.

Well.. Cheteshwar Pujara was the one who prepared really well for this match. But then he got out to Cameroon Green for just 14 runs. The good news for India is that Mitchell Starc once again looks wayward (picked the crucial wicket of Virat Kohli just now, thanks to an excellent catch from Steve Smith). Pat Cummins was also spraying the ball all around the wicket and it was Scott Boland who turned out to be the best bowler so far for the Australians. India need another 198 runs to avoid the follow on and the are four down at 71/4.

Qatar is a Muslim country and they clearly stated that they cannot change their Muslim culture for this one month tournament. So in their country, drinking beer in the studio or homosexuality, like the European countries, they also put some restrictions on girls' clothing so that they can retain their Muslim culture. I don't see anything wrong with what they have done as a Muslim dominated country. How they will change their culture for one month which they have been following since ancient times.

There are Muslim countries such as Turkey and Morocco as well. But they never try to impose their culture on visitors.

First of all, those who lost their lives to build these big structures, may God grant their families the ability to cope with their grief. But this is not the first time that workers have died in the construction of such a large structure in Qatar. Starting from Burj Khalifa, many people have lost their lives in other large buildings, so Burj Khalifa is closed? A group of people spread such news to stop the World Cup in Qatar.

First of all, accidents happen everywhere. But the difference between Qatar and other countries is that Qatar refused to provide a single penny in compensation for the families of the victims. Most of the workers were from poor countries such as Nepal and Bangladesh and their children are starving now since the income earner is gone. If this same thing had occurred in any other country, the families would have been compensated. It is very simple. Qataris doesn't consider these migrant workers as human. For them they are much less important.

Didn't Messi just signed with Inter Miami? At least that is what was published yesterday. If it's true what you say about his wife not wanting to move to Saudi Arabia, I guess he signed with Miami because of that. I couldn't find the exact financial agreement but there are speculations that he was offered a revenue-sharing deal with Adidas and Apple TV, but also a possibility to own a part of the club when he retires.

OK.. looks like it is confirmed.

https://www.goal.com/en-in/news/lionel-messi-confirms-inter-miami-move-argentine-superstar-mls-snubs-al-hilal/blte4073fe5404e15b2

I don't think that it is a very intelligent move from Messi, but then it is his decision and his career. Messi might have wanted to take up the lucrative deal from Al Hilal. But his wife was staunchly against that idea. I just hope that in the end he doesn't regret about this decision. The financial details for the Inter Miami deal are not out yet. Messi might have got a decent deal, given his ongoing negotiations with Barca, Al Hilal and Inter. David Beckham is one of the owners of Inter Miami, and this might have also influenced his decision.

These are kinda funny thing, but in long term it'll ruin the value of sports. We were able to watch and play different sports and when the same gets listed among the sports played around who would let their child be part of such thing. Through the above post came to know that it is just a fake news thats been circulated around. Maybe some television channel or Netflix can conduct this as a show  Grin

Well it is up to the participants to take that decision. If they consider sex as a sport, let them do that. Others have the freedom to ignore their opinion. And it's not like all of a sudden sex will be included in the Olympics or the Commonwealth Games as one of the disciplines. Swedish culture is quite unique and outsiders will find a lot of things very weird. Anyway, in today's world young people are losing their interest in sex. And who knows, after a few decades sex between humans will be a thing of the past. Let them celebrate when it still exists.

I feel lucky because I got to watch the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. In 2022, Qatar hosted the best World Cup tournament in history. Those who say they didn't enjoy the World Cup in Qatar, then they dislike Qatar, not the beauty of football. Many people have spread various misinformation about this Middle Eastern country that how the World Cup will be hosted in a desert country but Qatar has taken all the channels and organized the World Cup in the most modern way in the world. Qatar has done more than what was required to host a World Cup tournament. I don't think any country will host the World Cup in the future like Qatar did in the 2022 World Cup.

Well.. this is strange. What sort of misinformation was spread about the tournament in Qatar? The concern from the fans was regarding the following topics:

1. 6,000 migrant workers died during the construction of stadiums and other infrastructural facilities and Qataris never bothered to compensate their families
2. LGBT and unmarried couples were threatened with adultery laws
3. Hotel prices were spiked just before the tournament
4. Beer ban was announced just two days before the first game was played
5. Women fans were asked to wear covering attire

Which of these points look like misinformation for you?
3298  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIFA World Cup 2026 :Canada/Mexico/United States: Discussion Thread on: June 08, 2023, 05:40:37 AM
The 2022 World Cup in Qatar was fraught with tension. There were various limits and poor displays that did not match the expectations of those who traveled to see the competition live. The prohibition on alcoholic beverages was excessive; how can a country prohibit drinks, including beer, simply because they do not fit their tradition and practice? It is preposterous to witness a celebration without smoking and gushing drinks; that is the way of modern celebration, and everyone is acquainted with it. Finally, the deaths of migrant laborers were merely a disregarded problem by FIFA and Qater; they are simply concerned with the competition, which they view as more important than any other matter.

If Qatar is allowed to ban beer in 2022, then if some other conservative country is hosting the world cup in 2030, they will also implement similar laws. Let's say India is hosting the 2030 World Cup. They will claim that non-vegetarian food is against their beliefs and will prohibit such food for the visitors. What FIFA can do about it? And FIFA along with Qatar is responsible for the deaths of these migrant laborers. If the tournament was not awarded to Qatar, then these deaths would have been avoided.
3299  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: June 08, 2023, 05:19:03 AM
Yes you are right. India could have dropped a pacer here and added ashwin. He is a good bowler and helps the team with the batting too. I think he should have been dropped in the change of Shardal Thakur. Then India would have been stronger in this test final. Its effect yesterday. Saw it on the first day Although India started more in the beginning but they couldn't hold it. The partnership of Smith and Head gave Australia a big collection on the first day which I think will lead to a lot of problems for India. Today the 2nd day will start. India quickly beat Australia Will have to drop wickets so that Australia cannot score big runs. But on the other hand India will have to face Australia's bowling cannon which I think will be a tough test for India. Of course India have world class batsmen who are capable of turning any match around.

I don't know how Shardul got preference ahead of Ashwin. Ashwin is a much better player, both in terms of batting and bowling. The only argument against him is that in SENA conditions his performance is not up to the mark. But in recent times he has performed well in SENA as well. Pitch conditions might have played their part. Selectors thought that the pitch was a bit supportive for the pacers and preferred Shardul ahead of Ashwin. But as it turned out, Shardul was hammered all around the park by both Travis Head and Steve Smith.
3300  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: June 08, 2023, 04:24:41 AM
What can Rashid Khan do when the Afghanistan batsmen only managed to score 116 runs in a 50 overs game? Even the players like Rashid Khan needs some score to defend, a score where the other team can be put under pressure while chasing. Rashid Khan bowled four overs in this match and conceded 21 runs and no wickets. Though this was good bowling seeing the context of the match, they need wickets which Afghanistan bowlers were not able to get.

Also, when we talk about Afghanistan, only Rashid Khan comes to mind. They need more match winners as the cricket team never won matches on the performance of a single person.

Afghan batting has shown no improvement over the years. Mohammad Shahzad was there a few years ago, but he was very volatile. Now they have young players like Hazratullah Zazai and Rahmanullah Gurbaz who are very inconsistent, and players like Mohammad Nabi who are out of form. And that is the reason why they are losing so many matches despite having some of the best spin bowlers in the world. I don't know much about the domestic cricket system in Afghanistan. Low quality domestic cricket maybe one of the reasons behind this.
