I notice that my character has built up a large deficit, however there isn't an easy way to reconcile his income and expenses, I did deposit more moneros but I'm not sure if they have shown up. There is also the matter of the army, my loan to Zechariah, and my shares and bonds. I am currently liquidating some of my stone to Luigi but I'm not sure if I should cut down on my support for the army as well?
Dear Lord James, From 1520 the game will progress 1 year/1 day. From then on, your daily income/expenditure report will be: + 1,875,000 Labor pool (500%) - 2,530,000 Army upkeep + 2,540,000 Value of new stone generation ----------------------------------------------- + 1,885,000. So it is only negative because of the overdraft. It is not possible to cut support to the army, because it was part of the deal for gaining the large Haw. Developing the haw is one possibility to gain profits from the Services pool. Another one is updating/building a new residence of at least 200 sqm, to unlock the promotion to Earl and increase the Labor pool dividend to 750% for about 1,000,000 extra income. Your current townhouse in located in the center. The location is very coveted and no doubt 400 million can be realized if you sell it. By building the new one in a less prestigious location, you increase level + gain cash, but lose prestige. It is a tradeoff. Selling your Town Hall stocks nets you 39 million extra. Financially, Town Hall has not been a huge success but it is an esteemed building with lots of treasures. All deposits go via the Bishop (David) and Lord saddam directly, so I am not anymore in the loop for deposits. In summary, your Lordship's finances are not at all bad. But they do require attention every once in a while. ANN: Version 2: Trust in Economy A.D. 1520 - 2014-12-09
In an intriguingly divergent way, the progress of the game has exceeded our expectations, while the pace of the technical development has so far failed them. This situation is demanding for the administration of the googlesheets version, which heavily depends on human labor. We are happy to be in the challenging situation, though, which prompts us to make a major change in the versioning and schedule.
The Version 2 now announced is named "Trust in Economy" because it concentrates on the remainder of the Ancient era and puts us in front of the question: do we trust that we ever reach the Economy era and year 1600. The frantic pace of the game and the administrative load needs to be eased, and make it possible for new characters to join.
The most important changes to the rules, and additions to the game:
Game Time
The passage of time will be changed to 1 year per 1 real-day, which will make the Economy era and A.D. 1600 coincide with 2015-2-27, 40 days later than in the previous schedule. From that date on, time will pass 1 month per one real-year. This change is asked by some players and we felt that it slows the pace of the game, making it a more pleasant experience for all.
Due to the change of time, the gold and stone generation will be halved, resulting in 1,000,000 gold total in 1600 as previously, only that it is later in real-time.
The interest on loan/bonds, servant salaries and pool payouts will be effectively halved, ie. they stay same per year, but there is only one year in a real-day. The amount of loans and money in the pools stays the same of course.
New Borough
New borough "Trust in Economy" is opened. Apart from the C chapelry there, the land is free for everyone to just take and build on. The land to be claimed for free only needs to be walled and a small minimum initial construction of e=0.15 built on it. A reservation for 24 hours is possible to be made against a small admin fee, which allows the time to design the building project without worry that someone else will grab it.
The new borough is located in a site which allows stone quarrying. This is the first Industry in the game (borrowed from Economy). Some locations inside the borough are especially suitable for this lucrative business. Finding out which of them - and grabbing them in time and organizing the quarry is a matter of skill, experience and luck!
Financial matters and Pledges of Trust in Economy
The Bank will issue a large bond offering of 2,000 million, payable back in 1600. This will measure the practical Trust in Economy in the form of interest rate. His Majesty is giving a special gold medal weighing 16.00 grams to every subscriber of the bond.
His Majesty is offering Trust in Economy gold bars that weigh 1,600 gold. The price is only 10% markup to the price of gold in HM goldshop and the bars are signed and numbered by His Majesty.
The only remaining large piece of land in the Old Town, the lots 1-S-(Q1:Q15) is named Trust in Economy haw (35 q), and accordingly all taxes present and future are waived on it. It is offered for sale for 5,000,000,000 m to the most senior willing buyer. Seniority is Marquesses in the order of creation, then Earls in the order of creation, then Barons in the order of creation. To sweeten the deal, the buyer is instantly promoted a level regardless of minimum qualifications, the King throws in the free design and BI of a custom made palace of maximum 1,000 sqm / 190% lux, a medal of 1,600 gold is minted to commemorate the occasion, with 1 of the only 2 made gifted to the buyer, and the buyer is Knighted in the Ancient Order of the King, whose membership is hereditary and limited to 24 characters. In case the buyer already is a member, he is promoted Sergeant. AOK promotions are accompanied with gold also.
Right next to the haw, in the Village side of it, His Majesty constructs a copy of Palladio's Villa Rotonda, an about 700 sqm classical building. It will house the Department of Economics of the University, which will be chaired by His Majesty himself. All running costs will be paid. The building will be set on an artificial hill in beautiful surroundings.
Building rules changes
Building Editor (the cost calculation tool) is streamlined with the scrapping of separate calculation for low arches, ordinary doors etc. things whose price can be baked in the main cost component - number of blocks of stone in the walls. The building and arching rules stay the same, the change is to the calculation part only, which adds little value.
A Building will cost more depending on its number of floors (100% for a 1-level building, 110% for 2-story, 120% for 3-story etc). This change is really to make the buildings a tad more expensive because the price of XMR has declined, which is distorting the economy, but also to curtail the alarming rate of unaesthetic 5-6 floor residential highrise constructions. Such buildings are not suitable for the era. On the other hand, the maximum height is raised to 30 meters, although on admin permission only, for majestic buildings such as the new Cathedral and the new Palace of Versailles, which is planned to be constructed in the borough #10 with 1,000s of square meters of floor area, an order of magnitude larger than the Malla Royal Palace in Old Town C chapelry.
A freelance architect is interested in starting to offer her services in the game. She is an ardent live-action-roleplayer and artist, and hopefully soon introduces herself in the thread.

ANN: About the technical development of the online interactive version
Preface: As is typical of all important stuff written when you are tired and busy with many sorts of work, this announcement also was erased when the browser crashed. The current text does not have half the intricate detail I already had written, also it gives the impression that I am dogmatic. Too bad The Beginning
- It was hoped for and considered realistic by multiple sources that the game could be playable online with no graphics in 3 weeks - Sir Riccardo took it upon him to organize the development - A 5-member professional team lead by sXpher was contracted, they had delivered work for Sir Riccardo in the past satisfactorily. - After reading a 5-page feature spex, the rulebook, the thread, and the online databases, they promised to deliver a well-specified limited playable version in 4 weeks, and further that Versions 3 and 4 can be delivered on time also with the planned features. - At this time the release date of V.2 was postponed by 3 weeks (to 1502) since 2 weeks had passed and the team needed 1 week more. - Every time when I was in contact with the team, they told all is fine and no further input from me is needed. Situation around the Confirmed Release Date of V.2: Ancients
- Even the testing time slot for a few hours before release had been given to me, but when the time came, I did not get the access. During the following 6 days (which end now to this announcement as things are now clear), the following things were found out. - Backend components were well done and useful. - The team had not understood how little functionality is spexed and needed, and the delay was partly because of doing wrong things, or right things too early, or too well. - Version release management was totally blown - 1 day before everything is fine, even though there's nothing playable to show. This sudden finding was a great disappointment and stress for me. - For this reason confidence of mine and Sir Riccardo to the project management of the team suffered greatly. - Sir Riccardo took the lead in the project personally. Our Decisions concerning the immediate future
- The development of V.2 will be finished. The current team is capable of doing it. The problems in communication and project management will be remedied as follows: - Communication: sXpher will post to this thread 6 days a week. The posting need not be a technical development progress report every time, but they are also expected very frequently. Also he will immediately start to play the game actively and interact with players. In advance that some specification is needed from me, sXpher and Riccardo ask for it. - Project Management: Sir Riccardo will take a more active role and is ultimately responsible of the release. No fixed date is given, since it is unclear how long exactly the finalizing takes, and the features are exactly the minimum ones already. Price of gold is behind, but will surely rise when this birth pang is over. - Game development will be modular, conducted by a small full-time developer team, so that each module is independent and can be released when it is ready, or saved for a later time. There will not be great versioning and preannounced release dates, which serve no purpose.

If the intention is to give the impression that the rule-of-law does not hold in Estonia, it has been given. Outside below the roof at 16 m elevation are two golden inscriptions. Main Street side reads "Compound Interest is the Most" and Culture Square side reads "Powerful Force in the Universe". The CryptoMuseum is a massive gallery of 16 rooms with 5 meter height and 28+ meter area each. There is also a parkside restaurant in the basement as well as shops to let. Lord Jacket is operating the museum for the amazement and education of all visitors. The Garden Hotel Bank is a *** alternative to the upscale Grand Hotel, which it almost shares a wall with. Situated at the very heart of the densest-built area of the city, yet all 19 rooms of 15 sqm each are facing the peaceful park enclosed by buildings from all directions, shielding the noise and smells of the streets. The facade side of the building is used for shops to let and grand offices of His Majesty's ever-increasing staff. Plans are available from the link. I guarantee you the facade is beautiful and the interiors well-thought! We are satisfied that this grand development is finally ready. Taking more than a whole workday to plan, it was a great endeavor and time off from other duties. We want to point out that using the His Majesty regular fees of Architect Design = 30% and Inspection = 12 mil, the total bill payable by the 3 clients was 382,596,900 m. We say this not to brag, but to point out that per hour it is more than the minimum wage in the U.S., and the work can very well be done anywhere, and the learning curve is very steep. More architects are needed. Despite the efforts to have standard components, people want to have unique stuff and that is very real work. In total, 5,300,000,000 m have been spent in construction in the last 5 days. Quick calculation reveals that someone could make his/her living off of the architecture alone.

Bank has lent out all its funds so it's time to raise some more. This time we already know the structure and the range of interest rate, based on the long bond rate of 0.19% APR and the Series A: 1504-1554 issue of 0.28% APR.
Baron Choo wants to invest his newfound wealth responsibly without rocking the market (although his actions did raise the price of gold, land, TH stocks, GH stocks and Bank stocks already). He is therefore the backer of this loan issue, instead of plowing it all to the limited liquidity markets.
10 units are offered. One unit pays back 100 million in 1590 (2015-1-13). The Buy Me Now! price is 85 million, providing 15 million interest per unit. May I suggest that you address the King properly? The best way to strive in our city includes respect of some basic politeness. Non-national non-residents may address Our Majesty with the nick without retaliation, since they are following their own customs and do not know ours. Hypothecary Bank Bond Issue Series B: 1512-1590
Bank has lent out all its funds so it's time to raise some more. This time we already know the structure and the range of interest rate, based on the long bond rate of 0.19% APR and the Series A: 1504-1554 issue of 0.28% APR.
Baron Choo wants to invest his newfound wealth responsibly without rocking the market (although his actions did raise the price of gold, land, TH stocks, GH stocks and Bank stocks already). He is therefore the backer of this loan issue, instead of plowing it all to the limited liquidity markets.
10 units are offered. One unit pays back 100 million in 1590 (2015-1-13). The Buy Me Now! price is 85 million, providing 15 million interest per unit. The reserve price is determined by Dr. Choo, who at 75 million is willing to buy all the bonds offered, at 76 million 9/10 of them etc. All subscribers pay the lowest amount, early bid beats late etc. (Buy Me Now! is just the highest bid that can be made, and it always wins, yet the price is the same as with other winning bidders.)
The bond auction will run 24 hours.

When Economy era begins, it becomes increasingly difficult to gain 30 or 70 years of gametime, because they correspond to 12 and 28 months of real-time, respectively. At present the gold holdings "push" promotions to people, but in Economy there is so much less gold per PC (~100 compared to ~10,000 as of now) that it becomes rare to be promoted by gold anyway.

Grand Hotel announcement
46 years ago the Grand Hotel was finished in Central Square. In the beginning the success was not commendable due to the Hotel being "too big for its position", the town was small and did not have many tourists or wealthy restaurant-goers. Also there used to be a Giant Heap of Stone blocking the view to the Hotel from the then town centre around the Cathedral.
Now all is different, the city is booming and Grand Hotel has recently managed to expand its premises to the new E chapelry with an annex featuring the same 130% luxury and the first opulent double-helix staircase in town, with its center shaft reaching 20 m high and to the stars via an oval cupola and its oculus. The restaurant is the best in town, and (unlike before) also makes money since the Noble and visitor population has swollen. The haw grants steady income from 34 residential units, and the total payroll is about 50 NPC's.
Grand Hotel stock midprice has risen from 1.00 to 4.65 million (3.40% APR) + once there was even a 10% dividend.
To give some of the success to the initial bondholders also, we decided to pay back the bond now, 4 years early (total 715 mil paid). The bond was refinanced from the Hypothecary Bank at 0.40% APR, the most preferential rate available from the Bank's range of 0.40%-0.60%.
HM also announces the change in overdraft interest, which has been lowered from 1.00% to 0.80% some time ago already. The online version will not allow overdraft (buildings can be built only if the resources and money exist on the lot owner's account).

Dr. Choo is created Baron, although he continues to use his title "Dr." "His Majesty received Dr. Choo this same year 1422, after his long and tiring journey to the Tsardom of Rossiya. He told wonderful stories about musical instruments that he had seen in the Tsar's treasure chambers, something that have never been seen in the Kingdom. He had appraised one of them to be worth 175,000-250,000 gold, and showed me a parchment of proof with the intendant's seal on it. Astounded by this great man wanting to settle in our Kingdom, we have created him Baron, with gifts."

We had a nice Hawaiian-Japanese lunch with Dr. Choo this same year 1510. He continues to marvel us with his travels and enterprises in faraway lands. He was positively surprised (to say the least) that the humble gift we gave nearly 100 years ago has multiplied to become a townhouse in King's Park, a haw, stocks, and other assets worth hundreds of millions. He decided to invest 5 BTC to his account, while eagerly waiting the Version 2: Ancients to be able to manage it himself. This money, though meager IRL, will in the coming years be invested in gold, land, and other productive assets. He also wants to build and operate a violin museum and violin-making school. The building will have a previously unseen luxury level due to the incalculably precious instruments played and displayed there.
