Canary,

Does that mean you have a supply for boards?

Here's one.

I know people who did that to cheap USB 2.0 HUBS and it did not go well...

Once again it looks like LOCATION MATTERS!
Canary has his shipment, others do not. Time = money!
Thanks canary!

What's that  saying?

Location Location Location! and Canaries got it.
Being near a HUB/Airport has it's advantages.

I've had Priority delivered in ONE DAY!
Truly amazing since I'm on the Coast.

I wonder IF anyone has a clue what it takes to get that many
orders organized and shipped the same day...
and even within hours and it's no fluke either.

THANK YOU!!!

... never used it but all my 10 port hubs with 10 sticks using a 12 volt 4 amp brick killed the bricks after 2 weeks of run time.  I have a lot of spare 12 volt 5amp bricks and they worked great.  Your gear is 12 volt 3 amp but the markings or ratings are not what count.  for all I know my 12 volt 4amp bricks were less then your 12 volt 3amp brick.  I have found this brick works well

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000VE7GQQ/ref=oh_details_o05_s01_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1   I have 1 of these

as does this one

http://www.power-guide.com/pdf/SPU50.pdf    meanwell spu50-3

I can't find these any more I have 8 or 9 from other projects these are very good if you can find them.
these usb miners draw 5V x 0.5A each, so the total draw is 2.5VA.  if the brick is really a 12V 3A then it can output 36VA, which is plenty of power for 10 usb miners (2.5VA x 10 = 25VA).  that is assuming the brick is really rated at that.

the math you are doing is wrong.    A 3amp 12 volt brick can do 3 x 12 or 36 watts output.   (max in theory)   ruining gear 24/7/365  you should not exceed 80% of the max rating   so 80% of 36 watts is 28,8 watts.   10 sticks pull about 25 watts.  So it looks good as 25 watts is less then 28.8 watts.    But the brick is at 12 volts the sticks at 5 volts this means the 12vdc is ruduced to 5vdc...     so 28.8 at 90 percent  is   25.92 watts          all these numbers show me that the brick would burn up in 24/7/365 use with 10 sticks in less then a month......  Of course the only way to know this is to test it since no one knows the real rating of the brick...

in the meantime   I found some very good replacement bricks    they are relabeled meanwell spu50-3  bricks.

I found them on ebay they give 12 volts at 5 amps and would run any 10 port brick endlessly.  I ordered 6 bricks today.

he will mail them to me in a few days .  I will get back with a report on these bricks.

BRILLIANT IDEA!!! I have been having problems with underpowered USB hubs ever since I started with some USB ASIC Eruptors.... Instead of replacing / Trying another type of hub THIS is a GREAT first STEP... Just replace the POWER SUPPLY!!!   BRILLIANT IDEA... Anyone having a prob with USB hubs should Definitely TRY THIS FIRST...  great Idea... digeros  PS this guys is charging $12 shipping BTW???

3305  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL board project COINADO and COINTAMINATION - Tests completed :) on: August 15, 2013, 12:10:27 PM

Not marked it is luck of the draw. And they are hard to test. Once on board you will have hard time removing them. It is possible to make a test socket with springs but it would be expansive and hard...

I'm okay with that, luck of the draw it is then.

Its a shame the chips are of such an inferior quality but that is par for the course.

They do sell FPGA sockets, binning the chips would be good for everyone
Well samples are. No idea about  real chips... They advertised them differently... I hope for the best...

I don't see why binning them would be good. Every chip has his own frequency and even if only one engine is working that is one engine more then without chip... And even samples are not that catastrophic...

From BFL Website:

Considerations:

Chip grades:  Chips come in four grades of performance.  Chips are sold in mixed grade lots.  A grade has 16 engines, B grade has 15 engines, C grade has 14 engines and D grade has no less than 12 engines.  All chips run at a minimum of 250 mhz.  Higher grade chips will run up to 294mhz.  The percentage distribution in each lot is 60% Grade A, 20% Grade B, 15% Grade C and 5% Grade D.

After a small hiccup, customs has given my MONSTER shipment a release and I expect to be berated by the DHL delivery guy tomorrow  Grin ...

there's a good chance that they will run 1 delivery van tomorrow just for my shipment, so it could be later in the day...

400 USB units remain and 20 blades still available. I am going to close this group most likely tonight.

tune "That's logistics" from the UPS commercial song is now re-playing in my head... go away!!

Still confused on Blade shipping.  Same time as USB's ?  Separate shipping label?
if they arrive together then, at same time... as far as labels go, it depends on quantity... I posted a note about what fits into which priority box here, but can look at a specific order to tell you what you might have to do wrt to the label/s
also, i don't expect these to arrive before thursday/friday, so we all have a couple of days to get all the orders double checked and labels handled.
Right.  I do FedEx though.  Miners not a concern although you might need a large express box for 100.  Do not know about blades though.  You mentioned you were going to look at it.  I am assuming a medium box for two, but just don't know what kind of packing they are coming in.
Been experimenting and I think I'm going to settle on 3 blades for priority medium box and 5 for the large box... But packaging is going to get creative... Smiley

guidelines for your own labels:

small priority box fits 14 USB miners
medium priority box fits 100 USB miners
large priority box first 140 USB miners
20 USB miners fit into a flat-rate padded envelope

For Labels: What about the shipping DATE? USPS requires us to select a date of shipment - can we print a label without knowing when our units will ship?
Use Thursday's date...
For USB order, Blade Order, or Both?

Speaking of a blade order:

What flat rate box do they fit in and how many can you fit in a larger flat rate box?
I have the 3 components' info and will play with a model to determine shipping volumes etc... tomorrow.

Excellent!

Thank you.

3319  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Useless ASICs on: August 09, 2013, 02:56:06 PM
At the end of the day, it seems like the only people making any money are early adopters and people selling shovels/running pools, which is a truly sad state of affairs.

So, just like every other gold rush in history?  Not sure why you think bitcoin is somehow unique.  The signs were obvious a year ago that the long term profits were going to be in selling the miners.

Well why on earth would anyone new get into Bitcoin?  The value prop is disappearing.  And the people selling the hardware pretty much know they are screwing folks on the receiving end because of the big black void of difficulty vs. BTC value.

"Estimated mining power by October:

Minimum: 100TH AM + 100TH Avalon + 300TH Avalon chips + 200TH Bitfury + 300TH BFL = 1PH
Realistic: 300TH AM + 100TH Avalon + 500TH Avalon chips + 500TH Bitfury + 1PH BFL + 500TH KNC = 3PH (actually up to 5 or 6 with all upcoming hardware)

Revenue per GH per day: from 1 to 4 mBTC

Lifetime revenue:
The very best case (totally unrealistic) scenario: 1PH by October and 10x growth per year after that: 0.6 BTC/GH
Much more realistic case: 3PH by October and 100x growth per year after that: 0.1 BTC/GH
The worst case: 6PH by October and 1000x growth per year after that: 0.03 BTC/GH"

OK so seems like you've got some educated opinions on BTC and mining.
So I ask again:
How can someone new to BTC makes sense of these numbers posted above for the GB:
3320  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [OPEN] Hash Fast pre-order units mining shares 4Th/s 3936/4000 shares available on: August 09, 2013, 02:40:38 PM
Please post your calculations.

fantastic and thanks!

How does someone new to BTC with an Investment say on a scale of 20-999 GH/s make sense of it so they can make wise Investment choices in the GH/s market.

Don't want to derail Canary's thread too much, conversation in regards to this is happening over in speculation:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=270200.0

OK good.
Though I'm seriously considering this GB...
