3301  Other / Meta / Re: [WTF] I reported a post for plagiarism and my accuracy rate went DOWN!?! on: May 18, 2018, 12:11:45 PM
And these are just the Newbies, I can't easily check higher ranks. Most of them should be nuked, some try to make posts longer, like this one:
This is a great project. Will this be available for all manufacturers like small and medium scale manufacturers? Because it will be a great benefit to them!

These sorts of posts that tend to be what the paid bumping services make. Just enough to make it look like a genuine question and not just fake spam but still a mostly hollow question that's sole purpose is to keep the thread at the top. Check their other posts and if they're all the same or similar report them and they'll be looked into. Often patterns can be spotted like same email address and sign up dates etc.
3302  Other / Meta / Re: New Report to moderator stats ;) thank you theymos on: May 18, 2018, 12:08:24 PM
I don't think all of them are doing it maliciously though. Maybe that's just the way their keyboard is configured if that's their native language and originally it's genuine users making a post and some other bot is just coming along and copy and pasting that one. Could be wrong but I'm not sure whether people are doing purposely to avoid detection.
3303  Other / Meta / Re: Banned account on this forum on: May 18, 2018, 11:17:02 AM
I also had a similar situation. I had a full member account until I wanted to change the password and strengthen it with a secret answer to the question in case I forget his password. When you enter the answer to the question in case of loss of access to the password, a message was displayed that it is not advisable to do this, and then the account was blocked by a similar inscription. No matter how many I addressed to the addresses indicated for the purpose of its restoration, I received no reply. This not normal. Moreover, if I typed the name of this account and the password to it, the browser completely locks and I have to reinstall it. After that, I started using a different account.

Did you send a signed message to cyrus and theymos? Post it here so someone can verify it at least.

everyone would have to experience the banning, so if I were you, don't waste time and create another account and start over.
Or you better create multiple accounts so that when other accounts will be banned, you still have another.

Stop spreading this crap. Permaban is forever. The person and any/all accounts here are banned. FOREVER.
In fact, you deserve red for encouraging ban evasion.

The sad thing is this guy has already been busted for huge account and merit farming and he could have dozens to hundreds of other accounts and nothing will be done about it. Banning people is pretty much useless because people just evade their ban on their multitude of alts until the ban expires and losing a few accounts to bans is probably just an occupational hazard for account farmers and sig spammers these days.
3304  Other / Meta / Re: [WTF] I reported a post for plagiarism and my accuracy rate went DOWN!?! on: May 18, 2018, 10:56:48 AM
The chain you found, OP, resulted in 2k+ deletions. And I just nuked another ~30 accounts behaving similarly, posting minor variations of the same thing hundreds of times. Really annoying. If anyone sees more of this nonsense, please report it.

The sad thing is this will just be the tip of the Iceberg. There are numerous people farming dozens if not hundred of accounts this way just by posting "nice project" or "waiting for bounty/airdrop" or whatever.

We're also currently being spammed by a new wave of bots that copy a random post and paste it in another random thread. They're pretty easy to spot as the posts are way off topic but there's seemingly hundreds of them. Must have nuked going on 50 already since yesterday.
3305  Other / Meta / Re: how to delete a thread with comments from bitcointalk on: May 18, 2018, 10:12:27 AM
I can not delete the spam comments on the post, the spam comments are diluted threads on my posts. How to contact moderators? And I also want to donate some BTC to my account.

Report them if they break the rules with the Report to moderator button at the bottom right of every post. Or just PM a moderator about it. Also, you could lock the thread and re-open it as self-moderated and you can remove any posts you like yourself without moderator input.

You can donate bitcoin to the forum at the top left near your profile button or purchase a Copper Membership instead from here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=credit;promote
3306  Other / Meta / Re: New Report to moderator stats ;) thank you theymos on: May 18, 2018, 10:05:17 AM
I don't even have a link to my report history on this account for some reason. I do on my main one but there's obviously nothing there since I haven't needed to report anything in years.

I see that all the homograph attacks I reported are note handled yet. Why is that? Do you need more proof for those?

They take time to look into. It's best to include the link to the post they copied which makes things much easier. Otherwise staff have to spend time searching for it and they can't always be found easy.

3308  Other / Meta / Re: Ban the 3rd world non english speakers on: May 17, 2018, 11:56:41 AM
You were complaining before after we banned all the shitposters from spamming marinecoin here. I'd much rather read third world illiteracy as opposed to the generic spam bots that just copy and paste their marinecoin crap. At least they're actually putting some effort in.

But I wouldn't be against removing signatures either. Either that or make it so nobody can have a signature unless you achieve it by getting an insane amount of merit. That way if you don't contribute here you cannot earn. That would probably sort out shitposting here pretty quick.
3309  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk English Premier League pool betting Discussion Thread on: May 17, 2018, 11:50:44 AM
I just noticed StephenCurry333 hasn't even logged on since February 15, 2018 so not sure when he'll see my message. The prize money goes to second place if he doesn't claim it, right?  Grin Grin. Jokes. I'll put it into the pot for next year if he doesn't but I'm sure he'll claim it at some point. Someone keep an eye out for a site we can use because we won't have long to get something sorted. I'd still like to do the FIFA one as well though.  It's worth doing either way as you can win some prizes from them.
3310  Other / Meta / Re: Why are so many accounts being reported as hacked? on: May 17, 2018, 07:15:12 AM
Account sale -> Report as hacked -> Easy scam, especially with the new email resets.

Well it would be an easy scam if people ever got their accounts back. Those that didn't change their passwords since the forum breach is the main reason. Most people probably get them hacked by either downloading malware or logging onto phishing sites.
3311  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk English Premier League pool betting Discussion Thread on: May 16, 2018, 07:13:59 PM
I'd be happy to continue with the format we've been doing with the Premier League but I'm not sure if there's any websites that'll do it. Only thing I've found so far is the FIFA site which I'd be interested in doing as well or running them both if we can find a site. The FIFA website one is interesting in that you have to make all your predictions before the tournament even starts:

Quote
SCORING SYSTEM

Group Stage Scoring

Correctly predict a Group winner: 10 points
Correctly predict a Group Runner-Up: 10 points
Correctly predict the top two teams (in any order): 3 points
Correctly predict the entire group in the correct order: 15 points
Knockout Stage Scoring

For each correct team in the Quarter-Finals: 3 points
For each correct team in the Semi-Finals: 4 points
For each correct team in the Final: 5 points
For the correct World Cup 2018 Winner: 10 points
For the correct World Cup 2018 Runner-up: 8 points
Correctly predict a fixture (both correct teams and the correct position in the bracket): 10 points

Anyone interested in getting a pool going for that until we find a site for the one we've been doing?
3312  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk English Premier League pool betting Discussion Thread on: May 16, 2018, 03:52:29 PM
I think he's just complaining that his chosen picks are wrong and subsequently didn't get any points  Grin. I'll wait for a response from Cicciobtc before I send the payments out but can the users in the top five PM me their address for if you haven't done so already.

Anyone have any idea about what to do for the World Cup? It's less than a month away so won't have much time do get something going.
3313  Other / Meta / Re: sig campaign- what about "2 merited post per week" instead of"25 post per week" on: May 16, 2018, 03:48:06 PM
In a perfect world this would be great, but we don't live in a perfect world.

Exactly. Having merit requirements doesn't really work and I'm kinda against it, because people will just start buying merits, meriting their alts or just trading merit between themselves. What happens if you're making excellent posts but you just don't manage to receive any merits, whereas a generic shitposter has his friend merit one of his shitposts or he buys it or promises them he will merit them back and bingo he's getting paid. Campaign managers should just start doing their job properly and only accept quality posters in the first place.
3314  Other / Meta / Re: Is a campaign manager responsible for preventing low quality posting? on: May 16, 2018, 03:44:06 PM
Counting of number of posts is not the only thing that campaign managers do, they also need to calculate the number of characters to find out eligible for payment comments. During this process the manager can see the quality of posts and can conclude what to do with a poster.

Bots can and do do this and the people who know what they're doing will likely use them because it makes things so much easier, but most of them are not being thorough about the actual quality of posts. If they were  then there wouldn't be so many poor posters getting paid for drivel. As long as they see on the bot that the user made x amount of posts containing x amount of characters then hey, that's all that is required at the end of the day. There's no punishments or repercussions for running a poor campaign so why bother going above and beyond? They might not even check the character count either because there's nobody policing it at the end of the day and nobody is going to complain if they get paid for posts that they know didn't meet the exact criteria.
3315  Other / Meta / Re: Suspicious user (to me at least) on: May 16, 2018, 03:35:23 PM
If someone is receiving merit then immediately giving half of it back to the same person then it's pretty obvious what's going on. Merit giving should ultimately be pretty random and there will be few instances where two completely random users manage to  award it to each other unplanned but when you spot patterns like this where half of it is returned or it's a one for one thing over multiple instances I'm reluctant to give them the benefit of the doubt.
3316  Other / Meta / Re: Is a campaign manager responsible for preventing low quality posting? on: May 16, 2018, 03:24:44 PM
Self-policing can work but I think the community is lacking some tools to do it properly. Merit seems to be a step in the right direction. I would like to have some visibility of how "report to moderator" works in the backend, e.g. which reported posts get deleted, which don't and why, etc. That would help to make post reporting more efficient. Even just seeing which posts have already been reported would save a lot of time.

Beyond that, asserting control over sig campaigns would require some sort of trust-like or merit-like structure where only approved campaign managers can do it and then can be held accountable by some metric. Otherwise they would just manage the campaigns outside of the forum. If theymos was willing to establish such structure the rest could probably be self-policed. Unapproved signatures could be reported. Shitposters carrying approved signatures could be easily reported to campaign managers and said managers could be penalized/removed if they fail to take action.

Merit works in some aspects but it only works so far. People with a lot of multiple accounts or "friends/classmates/cousins" still easily abuse it as do those that just trade merit between themselves. Also, a lot of these shit campaigns will gladly pay Juniors and even Newbie members for whatever crap they manage to squeeze out so merit/rank is irrelevant to those that do. This shouldn't be acceptable but if there's no rules or repercussions against it people will continue to do it.

Running signature campaigns off site would be an inevitability, but we had already thought of that and that's why we were going to blacklist their signatures as well if a problem campaign had been warned and then subsequently banned. We even got theymos to agree to it but ultimately it just never happened. It would require direct input and action from theymos every time but for whatever reason he didn't respond to requests for certain campaigns to be blacklisted. There's only so much we can do without his blessing or ultimate action and things like the signature blacklist are useless if he isn't going to enforce it.
3317  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk English Premier League pool betting Discussion Thread on: May 16, 2018, 03:09:36 PM

Well, I counted scores round by round at my result should be 2970.

I noticed hahay complained about this, what about others?
@hilarious if you want to check it i'll send you login details.

Where did hahay complain about it? Did you add up the total points it give you at the end of the round in the box or go through all the individual scores to make sure you'd been allocated the correct points to start with? I PMd Cicciobtc to see how many points he actually finished on but if you didn't get more than him then it won't matter anyway.
3318  Other / Meta / Re: Warning when posting to old threads on: May 16, 2018, 02:35:59 PM
What makes you think a shitposter would take any notice of this? As Welsh already said we have a warning for much older threads but I regularly see threads bumped from years ago either with a shitpost or a copy and paste bot and then within days its got dozens of pages of the same sort of nonsense.
3319  Other / Meta / Re: Is a campaign manager responsible for preventing low quality posting? on: May 16, 2018, 11:43:32 AM
Thing that really waste of time, even i've ever reportedo people that used my account wrong but i got no respon at all from the bounty manager. But it just 1 bounty manager that did it from many more that i following. Mr. Sylon is one of the bounty manager that active in finishing the problem of the bounty hunters.

Sylon is complete trash as far as campaign managers go because he does nothing at all about the quality of his participants. You are a perfect example. If he was such a great campaign manager he wouldn't accept people like you onto his campaigns, but as long as you make one or two sentences of garbled garbage then that's good enough for him it seems. He was the campaign manager paying the 200 shitposting Russians to make the same post reworded slightly on every account so that tells you all you need to know about what sort of quality checks he does and the quality of posts he will happily pay for. As long as he and every other campaign manager can get away with doing absolutely nothing then like ICOs they will just sit back, do the bare minimum amount of work needed and collect the paycheck month after month.

Well yeah, they should be, but if there's no repercussions for those that don't do anything then why would they bother doing any work? Most are just happy collecting a pay-check for doing the minimum amount of work and all that essentially includes is paying the users as long as they've made the minimum amount of shitposts. Until there's repercussions for those that do little to nothing about their campaigns  then nothing will change.

I don’t understand why Theymos hasn’t wanted to punish bad managers. First he came up with the serious discussion boards, then, the merit system, and he finally said that if the merit system didn’t work out, he could even remove signatures completely, but he was never considering what would be for me the most direct and easy way to deal with the problem.

I don't know either but theymos seems to take a hands off approach for most things and let the community take care of itself. Things like the feedback, trust and merit systems all really police themselves and anything else just requires more manpower thrown at it and that's something theymos probably doesn't have the time or energy to do. Freedom is great in some aspects, but inaction in other cases just leads to abuse en masse and once people realise they can get away with something the problem just gets exponentially worse the longer you leave it.

3320  Other / Meta / Re: Account got banned please help !! on: May 16, 2018, 10:15:01 AM
My account mecer007 got banned.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1143379
Please Unban my account and please point out the mistake I had done so that it doesnt happen in the future.
Please do take account of my problem.

Who told you to copy and paste posts? There have been numerous users doing what you were doing by copy and pasting but changing a few characters.
Sir I was new here and don't knew what to post so I read others posts and mixed two posts and replyed in the thread and I had know idea that copy and pasting was banned and I won't do it again so please if there's any way to unban my account please do it. It's all I have. Sir please unban my account!

What did you mean you didn't know what to post? This is a discussion forum. People come here to talk about bitcoin. What did you come here for? Just to copy and paste to claim bounties?

The all above names are my cousins. We all are different individual carrying our individual identity, if our identity is required, we can even upload to prove.

It's not required. You posting IDs won't be proof of anything. Are you and your "cousins" both fans of James Bond by any chance? Why don't you start telling the truth instead of lying? Who told you about bitcointalk and to just copy and paste instead of posting original content? This type of abuse is endemic and something tells me people don't just figure it out without a little guidance. I mean, you or someone else must have told your "cousins" all to copy and paste as well (or are your cousins just in fact your alts?).

<snippers>
This report is archivied http://archive.is/ke3Zn#selection-4341.0-4341.37 and saved on my pc as Txt, just in case!
OK, I tagged these cretins, but this is probably the wrong thread to be posting this evidence.  You know where to do it, homeboy.  Props for catching them.
And surprise, surprise - the other accounts seem to be engaging in copy-pasting too.  Smiley
Did you report this yet?  I tagged the Cryptoannie account, but getting it banned is even better.

It's pointless even banning these people at this point. It's like shooting diseased rats swarming out of a drainpipe. You'll take out one or two but the rest evade capture and continue shitting all over the place spreading filth whilst they reproduce uncontrollably (telling their class mates/cousins/brother/mother about their unbelievably great way of making money just by copy and pasting who then sign up to do the same). I mean, these almost certainly won't be the only accounts they have. They could have dozens to hundreds for all we know and an admin is never going to look into them. The last time they did 200 were found. This won't be a one off case. In fact, it will have probably got worse due to copy and paste bots and the fact that admins never look into abuse cases now. Maybe we should just leave the copy and pasting up to DT members to police because it's a waste of time really. At this point I think we should just remove signatures for all ranks except Hero or Legendary and if you can't earn those ranks then you don't get to earn here. Nothing is going to change as long as you can earn money here just by copy and pasting and people just trade merits between their alts or "Cousins" accounts so that's only a minor hindrance to them.
