Oh dear, what have I done.
3302  Economy / Speculation / Re: How big a share of bitcoins should a person keep for hedging purposes? on: January 03, 2012, 07:03:16 PM
For the long term I suggest at least 1 Bitcoin. It's like a lottery ticket, either Bitcoin will be worth a lot or it will fail. Either way, it's not a big risk.

It's either worth a lot or it's a failure?  No middle ground?  Do you think it's a failure now cause they're not worth a lot?

I'd agree with cbeast. If something serious happens that kills it, it's worthless. If this mysterious tragedy does not happen, then there seem to be a very few reasons why it wouldn't grow in time. It's useful and speculative and although it (probably) has critical mass right now its still largely unheard of (1% of people?)

If you look at it like you might look at a new product in a market, then you have a serious marketplace, no real competitors and moat of several million dollars, several thousand existing customers (is the block chain also a competitive advantage?). From that view its a dream investment, has plenty of room to grow unchecked.

In this world of extremes, fading to mediocrity seems to be the outlier here!

Dying or fading into mediocrity over time definitely isn't what I had in mind.  Some people have unrealistic expectations I think, but I guess thats all perspective.  I'm happy with where it is now and where its going. Just getting bigger by the day and hopefully some better options for consumers will help adoption along as well. Even if it continues to be a niche product in the future.

Wow this is nice, I like it.  Good work.

My role there is keeping the forum usable and readable without interfering with peoples right to express themselves. That's why you can post things like
Quote
you know what?  i'm tired of being nice to you just b/c you're a 17 yo kid.  f*ck you prick!

And that's also the same reason I can say that, you're kind of a dick sometimes (that's all I'm gonna say on that). Free speech thing's gotta work both ways. Honestly you and I agree on a lot of things, you've brought up some good points in this thread. I wouldn't mind seeing those answers either, at least to get any issues resolved. If there is going to be short/long selling allowed order should be allowed to be placed at any time or they could adversely affect the exchange price if it doesn't work well. Things like not allowing shorts to liquidate when they want can cause spikes and cause even more liquidations or give false market data. Or even wipe out some dudes 401k. You're a smart guy, you can figure out how to present an argument better than that.

Besides it's the speculation forum, if they started enforcing rules everybody would be banned, including me and you  Grin. Should take this into Meta discussion, it's off topic, if you really want to discuss it further.  I'm not even a moderator here, not that it matters, has nothing to do with my personal opinion.

Hey, this looks cool. Looks like Mtgoxlive has a serious competitor. Smiley

Nice interface! The mouse wheel trick is neat, too.

i use a MagicPad Angry

what does it do?

If you mouseover the ask/bid lines it will show you the exact amount/price and you can scroll and it will move along the line and scroll the amount/price in a little popup box.  That's the best I can explain it anyway.
3306  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoinica: How it works on: January 03, 2012, 03:46:02 PM
i'm glad you turned off  the ignore button.  now would you please answer my legitimate questions?

I think he's figured out you won't be happy with any answer to any question.   Wink

If you would read carefully, you'd notice that not only are these legitimate questions, they're unemotional which you should value highly.  You're not contributing anything here except a judgment.

You're right, and I do. I'll admit I'm just skimming your posts in the bitcoinica threads lately, assumed it was the same old.  A bear can turn bull, and cypherdoc can turn...rational?  What kinda crazy world is this?
3307  Economy / Speculation / Re: $5 reached! on: January 03, 2012, 03:20:21 PM
There is a strong support at $4.8...
We are in a long steady upward trend.

It's been below 4.8 for 30 mins now? (and you posted this 5 minutes ago)

I believe we are in a strong both longterm and midterm trend towards $6.

My apologies, I forgot this was the longterm and midterm trend thread.

Edit:  That came off a little harsher than I meant, was more of a joke/sarcasm.

That's not astronomy.  It's astrology, astronomy is science and astrology is voodoo.
3312  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoinica: How it works on: January 03, 2012, 12:48:07 PM
Most of the longs will get liquidated soon, if this keeps up.  Down to 5.02, from 5.50 24 hours ago.

Yes we need someone else to make 10 new topics a day with the latest fox news/NPR talking points.
3315  Economy / Speculation / Re: Depth to $10 on: January 02, 2012, 03:08:41 PM
There's always people waiting to sell that don't want to put up walls and affect the price til the last second.
3316  Economy / Speculation / Re: Predict the price on 3/1/2012. on: January 02, 2012, 02:52:36 PM
It will happen on the downside of a crash from a high of 12-15.  So kind of bearish  Wink
3317  Economy / Speculation / Re: Predict the price on 3/1/2012. on: January 02, 2012, 02:43:47 PM
Just saying, edited my original post from 8.00 to 8.0012 to adhere to the rules.  Don't wanna have to flip out on anyone.

Just buy them if you're long.  Sure margin is nice, but with all the volatility in the market and large amount of holders out there willing to sell rather than risk another drop to 2, I'd be wary.
3319  Economy / Speculation / Re: Who just sold? on: January 02, 2012, 02:22:31 PM
I wouldn't sell yet, there will be plenty of dumpers on the way up.  Can't get nervous every time someone gets out. Don't be a wuss.

3320  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoinica: When does it implode? on: January 02, 2012, 12:58:13 PM
Somebody got liquidated.  Don't forget to take leverage into account when making your decisions, more leverage isn't always better.
