3301  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitcoin sell-off may be due in large or small part to BTC-E scam and/or hacks on: April 13, 2013, 02:12:24 PM
I am going to go out on a limb and say that if you got hacked you have probably been chatting in the troll box.

I can see (no easy) way for the hackers to get your initial account details without randomly harvesting account names of people posting in that chatbox. It is a far fetched hypothesis...but I would stay clear of the chatbox.

Of course, they could have gained access to a database, but if that were the case I would expect the problem to be much bigger. If you troll on the chatbox, you might want to take a break from posting on there.

Recently, BTC-e changed the chatbox to eliminate the links users (copiously) post. They also changed their login system from Username and password to email and password. I wonder why? Wink

3 hours and you are already complaining ? Smiley Welcome to Bitinstant, it has been a week to me so far and Bitinstant shows no indication that the payment occured.

They have a new order form for this kind of issue:

https://www.bitinstant.com/contact

Go fill it out and report how long it takes them to respond.

BUMP BUMP
They have "basically" run out of supply of cash.

Supposedly they fund the "Instant" transfers using their own money. Then they wait for your own money to process through regular means. Which means...effectively, you are waiting on others peoples money to clear before they can recharge their own service for "instant" transfers.

What worries me is that some claim they have been waiting 3 weeks....which is not shaping up to be a good situation.
3305  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BitInstant Paypal Missing funds! on: April 12, 2013, 01:10:10 AM
Day 6,

So far nothing has changed. Have heard that some people have been waiting as long as 3 weeks. (21 days+)
3306  Economy / Exchanges / Re: BitInstant Warning - Stop Using Them. on: April 12, 2013, 01:08:34 AM
I suspect quite a lot of people are angry and affected by this total stop in BitInstant services.

Hang in there, you are not alone.
3307  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Yo Bitinstant guy- what in the f is going on? on: April 12, 2013, 01:07:18 AM
Yankee 5, right?

Why is bitinstant not working?

Why can one only send funds to Mtgox, which is shut down?

Why can't I send funds to my bitcoin wallet?

Why can't I send funds to a voucher (to use btw-e, etc)Huh

Now that you bring that up...that is an interesting point.

Basically, they have stopped all transfers. Since MTGox is "down"...they really have no service at the moment.
3308  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: alost one week and no 500 from bitinstant. not so good!!! on: April 12, 2013, 01:05:57 AM

3310  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: mtgox under Distributed Denial of Competence attack on: April 12, 2013, 12:12:29 AM
They NEED someone to audit their platform and give them concise and rapid plan for implemented changes. They make it sound like the proper hardware and infrastructure is far above them.

Let them show you their balance sheet on a daily basis and I'd bet no one here would agree with them on that.

If they have a DB problem, they can buy specialized hardware and implementations that can go online very quickly to handle massive amounts of transactions and scale efficiently. If they have front end problems, there are lots of companies they can approach to get that under control in less than a day. No matter how large the demand.

The more you know about large scale business implementations, the more doubtful the words coming from MtGox actually sound. The less you know, the more their story sounds legitimate. Get educated about scaling and you'll quickly know that any problem that can be encountered can be readily solved.

That MTGox is still unable to fix it after this many days just goes to show that priority is being put elsewhere. (IMO)

3311  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: mtgox under Distributed Denial of Competence attack on: April 11, 2013, 11:57:30 PM
When you have multi-millions in trading fees you'd be surprised what good trading engines you can buy, or people you can hire. Or don't hire anybody and run a 2 man show and outsource the rest to India

Spot on.

I know I have paid them quite a bit in just two or three trades. So multiply that by several tens of thousands accounts...and you get the idea.

They can afford to hire the right people and buy the right hardware. I am not saying it will be cheap. But guess what? I am (as the rest of the community is) funding it through our fees.

They can afford it. They can even afford to get it done [very] quickly.

Edit: If they haven't hired consultants and have incoming orders for the fastest servers you can place in a datacenter, then they are truly being incredibly [willfully] incompetent.

Consider for a moment that one day in the near future, MTGox will likely be trading several billion USD/BTC and other [crypto]currencies. Their infrastructure costs are going to be a tiny penny on every dollar at best.
3312  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How I got robbed of 34 btc on Mt.Gox today on: April 11, 2013, 04:06:26 PM
Thx doobadoo for the advice.

Moved to a clean system until I wipe infected one, all passwords reset, was using chrome and win7 and you don't have to tell me I know the risks of using Microsoft. I'm on top of my security, always have been but this trojan was well crafted, I mean when the incentive is there you'll have the entire online underground mafia programming these things. These guys must be making a killing. I think the payload was both a browser java instance and custom keylogger executable. But I'm not an expert all I know is the second I clicked on that site my bitcoins were withdrawn near instantaneously, and I had mtgox.com open and logged in on another tab.

Crossing my fingers mtgox will help.
What is Yubikey? How does one go about enabling 2 step authentication?
3313  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BitInstant Paypal Missing funds! on: April 11, 2013, 04:17:22 AM
I thought MtGox USD vouchers were a thing of the past as of 10 April.
I didn't know they were disabling that feature...
Is there a blog somewhere for MtGox?

---------------------------

Got this reply on my situation:

Hello xxxxxx xxxxxxx,

Our reserves are currently depleted at Paypal, but as soon as they are replenished I will issue a manual transfer. Sorry for the delay.

Sincerely,
Seth

3314  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Mt. Gox approval queue (5000?) on: April 11, 2013, 04:06:39 AM
I guess this means it's likely that the price is going to continue to rise although some will be:

1) signing up and abandoning the account
2) opening an account to sell their bitcoins
3) waiting for the price to drop before buying

so don't expect every new account to be buying.
DDos'ing the account verification by adding super long lines?
3315  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MtGox Lag Nearing Length of Feature Film on: April 11, 2013, 12:55:11 AM
P.S. Already hedging LTC.
What is different about LTC that would make it more resistant to these kinds of problems if it saw the same kind of use as BTC?
There is nothing different about it other than there are seemingly fewer traders.

"Less lag" and most importantly....MtGox isn't trading it yet.
3316  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MtGox Lag Nearing Length of Feature Film on: April 11, 2013, 12:43:51 AM
Were you under the impression that MtGox is the only bitcoin exchange?

Likely he's aware there are other exchanges, but almost everyone knows Gox is the big dog that truly sets the btc price among all other exchanges.

Gox is a joke.  They need to upgrade that 486SX33 server with 20meg EDODram, 325meg HD, with the 14.4kmodem bank and some cluched together Dbase.

Invest in ltc as a hedge against Gox and the whims of the hackers who routinely attack Gox to destabilize btc and buy back btc at a lower price.
And here I thought they were running a 300 Buad modem...on a 286...maybe a pair of 8086's.

P.S. Already hedging LTC.

I have the same kind of problem!

They took paypal off their site?

I saw the Paypal "Reserves are up" message at the bottom of the main page. How is this a good thing of things to come?

I had better get my cash back...
Yea, you can only be paid to MTGox or Bitcoin atm
I just noticed this!

This means their service channels are dysfunctional....not good.

I just PM'd the CEO (Yankee) with my order details:

===========================
Hi,
You asked that we contact you if our orders were not processed correctly.

OrderID: ********************************

If you cannot send the funds to Paypal then please issue a MTGox coupon for 400 USD via PM so I can recover my funds. (without deductions for any service fees)

3320  Economy / Service Discussion / [RESOLVED] BitInstant Paypal Missing funds! on: April 10, 2013, 10:10:17 PM
I used BitInstant to transfer funds to Paypal without success. Now my cash appears to be lost in a limbo. The process was rather smooth and I filled in all fields correctly. During checkout I noticed they wrote on their page that some First Time Paypal orders may be checked manually.

No problem. I understand their need for security and doing things right.

After I checked the order status which is updated in real time, the message said that the order was passed to the Paypal Exchange with a MTGox Coupon as the funding source within a few minutes. Great, I thought. They are a premium service and for the [rather hefty fees) they charge they do what they say on the website. They do it quickly!

Not so fast....as it turns out.

I checked Paypal and nothing actually showed up. I received a payment from an unrelated transaction so there was no issue in receiving money from my customers through Paypal. What was disturbing to me was that I got an email explaining that I had received the funds....yet at the same time it explains that there was an error in the process.

---> ErrorCode: Insufficient Funds U: Payment ID <---

How is that possible? I made a MtGox USD coupon for $400. Went to Bitinstant. They pulled the MtGox coupon and deposited the correct amount then took their (rather hefty premium fees) and (supposedly) deposited into my Paypal Account.

So where is there room for error? I used a nice round number so I wouldn't have any issues. They also tell you upfront how much the fees will be before you do the final process.

-------------------------

I dispatch an email late at night and expect a response sometime the next day.
In the morning I try to take advantage of their Live Agent feature which they say is available from 9am to 5pm. I keep trying it throughout the day and it never works! No Live Chat is available.

I call the number and leave my details. They also refer to the Live Chat feature as the best and fastest way to resolve problems. All the Live Agent feature does is send your message to an email address and then you have to wait a painfully long time.

Later in the day I got a response via email that I needed to wait 1 to 2 business days for PayPal to check my account. So I waited 2 business days and then some.

So I started on the 5th, now I am on the 10th and still no "Instant" service. I have dropped emails through their Live Agent (read: normal email) and it has been two days without a response.

I have heard of people saying (on BTC-e and elsewhere) they have lost up to 1,000 USD with BitInstant. That money allegedly disappears into a limbo. I didn't think I would ever encounter such a situation myself.

Though here I am. Complaining over a service that should have been completed several days ago.

----------------------

If any agent that wanders the forums is willing to help me out and explain what went wrong, I would be more than willing to hear about it. Please contact me via PM.
