Cross the fingers to get the lext block

You found a block? Why it is stopped?

They basically rent a lot of hash power for a set amount of time, say one day, or whatever they can afford with the money they paid.

It's basically a gamble to find a block in that amount of time, in this run they didn't find one, but they have found blocks previously with this strategy.
3322  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: What equipments can use to mine BTC with power cost is 0.15€/Kwt? on: May 23, 2022, 12:10:09 AM
~snip~

Anyway, Compac F USB miner is much cheaper and more profitable compared to Apollo(Based on their power consumption).

Cheaper to run, yes, but the Compac F are much more expensive to buy (per TH/s) and a bit more complicated to run(apollo is just one thing to connect and run instead of multiple USB sticks, fans, and USB hubs)

You can get around 300GH/s at 12W with one Compac F, and about 2.1TH/s at 120W with the Apollo, so you get 7 times the hashing rate for 10 times the energy cost.

But one apollo unit costs $499 and 7 Compac Fs costs about $1,633 based on this:

https://bitcoinmerch.com/products/3-x-gekkoscience-compac-f-with-fan-upgrade-bitcoin-merch%C2%AE-7-port-usb-hub-combo-up-to-1-05th-s

If you manage to get cheap Compac Fs, then that's the best deal.

No GPUs are no longer support mining BTC unless you talking about Altcoin mining?

If you want to mine BTC you need ASIC machine that support mining SHA256 Algo sample of machines like Antminer s9 or s19 pro.

All ASIC machines can be found here https://www.asicminervalue.com/

Note that from that list there's at least Futurebit's Apollo BTC and GekkoScience's Compac F missing and many in the list are not SHA256
3325  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official FutureBit Apollo BTC Software/Image and Support thread on: May 22, 2022, 11:15:18 PM
Two Issues:

1: I can't load the pool settings from the UI. The page just has a spinner.
2: Pools are inactive. The Apollo BTC is blinking red, but the pool status is inactive with no hash rate.

Background: Recently had a power outage. Seems that this behavior occurred afterwards.
Background: All other functionality seems to work with the Apollo BTC besides changing the pool and actually mining.

Any help would be appreciated!

Regarding number 2, I think if the Apollo loses connection it doesn't seem to reconnect by itself but it keeps mining locally. I remember having an issue like that one time, and just restarting the miner software solved it.
3326  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Pizza Day 2022 on: May 22, 2022, 01:49:11 PM

Here's my Bitcoin Pizza Day celebration, slices from a local pub. It was awesome, specially because it was happy hour, so only $1 per slice!

We are working on it, especially now that there are enough apollos mining out there should be cool to show a global stat page plus how many blocks have been found by Apollos!

What's the coinbase tag used by the apollos? or is that completely set by the pool?
3328  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Pizza Day 2022 on: May 20, 2022, 12:15:22 PM
What are your plans for bitcoin pizza day this year?
Same as I've been doing for the last 4-5 years, gonna bake my own bitcoin themed pizza. That is, If I have enough time. Worst case scenario is just ordering the pizza, but its not the same thing as making your own.

My last two bitcoin themed pizzas

Oh, those look great! The cheese BTC is a nice detail  Grin

I'm going to go to a pizza bar and get a few slices of pizza with some beer.

With everything changing these days, having a constant like Bitcoin is a great thing, so I'm happy to celebrate these things.
3329  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIFA 2022 world cup on: May 20, 2022, 12:05:20 PM
~snip~

I have also had the same thought, for me Portugal can reach very high if they propose it, from what I saw in the classification for the world cup, Portugal had a hard time reaching the world cup, they had to reach the repechage and that is a very difficult position for a team of this caliber, but of course by leaving behind teams like Italy and Sweden CR7 knows that this opportunity cannot be wasted and as everything is going, being his last World Cup he will do everything possible to win it and be one of the top scorers, the same for Messi, I think this World Cup promises to be one of the most exciting of all.

Cristiano Ronaldo is 37 years old already, it's already a bit on the older side to be at his best, so I don't think he's going to push Portugal to the finals. I think this world cup will be a bit of a surprise, new, younger people will be able to show their talent. The weather in Qatar is also not amazing so people will have a hard time playing there. It's going to be a young team the one that wins this one.
3330  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: For old miners, consider using nicehash since it has a 2000 sats min. withdrawal on: May 20, 2022, 05:25:41 AM
Hey!

Thank you for suggesting us!

Here is a list of why one should mine with NiceHash: https://www.nicehash.com/blog/post/why-should-i-start-mining-with-nicehash

Looks like it needs an update!:

The minimum payout threshold is only 0.00001 BTC (1000 satoshis).
3331  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [TESTED IT] Minimum transaction value on: May 20, 2022, 01:24:26 AM

Now we know that the lowest accepted value for segwit addresses is 294 sats.

 Smiley

Interesting!

This made me think of Muun, since they support lightning through submarine swaps, and in theory all your sats are on-chain:

Regarding the lightning aspect of the recovery process, Muun uses super optimized submarine swaps to execute the lightning payments, both incoming and outgoing. This means that your funds are on-chain and thus recoverable by the mechanism I just described.

I tested with a 293 sats invoice and it went through perfectly fine.

I'm not really sure what is actually happening behind the scenes though.
3332  Bitcoin / Mining / For old miners, consider using nicehash since it has a 2000 sats min. withdrawal on: May 20, 2022, 12:13:02 AM
I was thinking the other day that many people stopped using old miners because they can never generate the minimum of the pools to actually withdraw, so they never get anything in return.

But with nicehash you can rent your hashrate and then withdraw through lightning with a minimum of only 2000 sats:

Minimum withdrawal amount is 0.00002 BTC.

So even if you have some miners that don't generate much, you can still get a few sats from time to time.

If you've never used lightning, you can get Muun to receive the sats through lightning and then send the funds to an on-chain address, almost for free. It's a free, non-custodial wallet that can receive sats through lightning, very convenient.
3333  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Any Pools with Referral Programs? on: May 19, 2022, 04:17:10 PM
There used to be a great site called Triple Mining that had pools with referral pools. Interesting concept.

Anything like that out there today?

Zergpool has a referral program: https://zergpool.com/site/referrals
3334  Other / Archival / Re: solo.ckpool.org NOT open source? My question was deleted for asking about it on: May 19, 2022, 04:13:26 PM
Thank you again for your help. Have another question if you don't mind answering?

Code:
if (ckp->donvalid) {
d64 = g64 / 200; // 0.5% donation
g64 -= d64; // To guarantee integers add up to the original coinbasevalue
wb->coinb2bin[wb->coinb2len++] = 2 + wb->insert_witness;
In this code example 200 equals 0.5%? How does that work? if it was 50% to donation address what would be the d64 = g64 / Huh; // 50% donation value? What type of math is this

That's out of scope for this thread.

You can ask for that in your bounty: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5398809.msg60142954

~snip~
If I was able to replicate ck pool and see the full scope of how it works . Sure  I would retract my suspicions
~snip~

Since now you know how the 2% fee works I think it's time to do that.
3335  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Meet The Bolt Card, an NFC-enabled Lightning card on: May 19, 2022, 03:48:48 PM
I don't get how the card itself can be used for Lightning payments. I don't think that people would pull out a random custodial app just to make LN payments to stuff such as BTCPayServer stores.

Maybe it's just me, but what good are all these crypto-backed cards if they cannot be used to make crypto payments.

Let's face something, a basic truth. The majority of people will always have a card. That's not going to change any  time soon. So the only way all these crypto-backed cards can be useful for anything is if the payment networks can automatically relay those payments towards the corresponding wallet custodian, which then relays the payment to the corresponding blockchain (since we all know that the big payment networks would never agree to such a co-operation). Something like this:

Card -> Payment processor (e.g. Visa) -> Wallet Custodian (receives fiat funds) -> broadcasts corresponding transaction to LN on behalf of user.

This is necessary to achieve ubiquiticy [not sure if that's a word] of payments using crypto under the hood, a necessary step to global adoption of crypto as a payment network.

I think you're missing the point.

With this card (or any NFC card really), and lightning through LNURL-Widthrawal you can access your Bitcoin directly from your own lightning node by tapping with it. Here are more details about how to set it up without using their app: https://stacker.news/items/29647

Basically you can replicate the same buying experience you have with a credit card, but without having to go through any legacy financial company. This connects directly to your own sats, there's not even a conversion like some other cards offer. This is straight from your own node to the vendor's node through the card.
3336  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Meet The Bolt Card, an NFC-enabled Lightning card on: May 19, 2022, 03:35:39 PM
This is offline Lightning contactless card powered by NFC wireless technology, but I think that you can't use this card without passing kyc registration on their website.
I could probably do the exact same thing for free and without any KYC, using any Lightning wallet that is installed on smartphone with NFC support.
For Bolt cards you will need special Lightning enabled POS devices, so I don't think you can use them in most stores, but it is interesting product.
Any Bitcoin stored on card is actually on CoinCorner wallet that is custodial (I think), and to use Bolt as debit card you will need to connect it with your bank account:
Quote
CoinCorner is an IOMFSA registered company and we follow rules which require us to ask for standard personal details such as name, email, date of birth and address. These are used for compliance purposes.
Quote
Debit card
Use the CoinCorner app to connect The Bolt Card to your CoinCorner wallet and spend with your card like you would a debit card attached to your bank account.
https://www.coincorner.com/TheBoltCard

You can definitely use the Bolt Card without a CoinCorner account or any KYC stuff. You can use it with your own lightning node.

I wrote a little guide on how to use these cards without an account in CoinCorner here: https://stacker.news/items/29647

It's basically an NFC card, it's even sold by another (related) company, the same one that sells Mt Socks

And this Bolt Card(or any NFC card really) works with BTCPayServer. Here's a video of that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SuhEPSMRoA

I have some misgivings too. Not really sure about they’re usecase , more of a gimmick I suppose.
My main concern is whether any artists have been contacted/compensated for the use of their art  Huh

That's a good point. They do seem to have some original designs, but there are of course some previous ones there like the reddit ad one(Bitcoin Wizard). Not sure if the original artists were contacted.
3337  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Alternative to Nicehash? on: May 19, 2022, 06:53:41 AM
If you want to mine different coins and be paid in Bitcoin, similar to what nicehash does, you can use Zergpool.

Here's the announcement thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2759935.0

I guess you are refering to the Scotland vs Ukraine game?
I just checked odds and found: 2.3/3.2/3.2

Scotland does play at home, which is a real advantage again with audience in the stadiums. Independent of the war, I think Ukraine is not a weak team and probably stronger than Scotland. With Scotland playing at home they should be about the same level. Maybe bookmakers really factor in that Ukraine will perform worse because of it?

I think it's going to be a very close match, my guess is that they will end in a tie. In any case it's probably going to be a fun game to watch.
3339  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin has no future as a payments network, says FTX chief on: May 19, 2022, 05:47:08 AM
Lightning is advancing so fast that it's hard to keep up with the latest.

Right now you can setup a card to make tap payments using only Bitcoin, no legacy financial institutions required.

Here's a post I made about this: https://stacker.news/items/29647

So basically there's already a payment network based on Bitcoin that can be used with the same convenience as credit cards today.

There's no future for these institutions that want to keep charging huge fees for moving money around.

Excellent initiative.

I couldn't find any list of books that you're planning to read, or have already read, so I'll give you one:

The White Paper – by Satoshi Nakamoto (Author), Jaya Klara Brekke (Editor), James Bridle (Introduction)

I noticed that you're going to start on June 1st, and this book was published exactly on that day, 3 years ago: June 1, 2019
