Breaking news... Australia have cancelled Djokovic's visa again!

I think this is the right decision. He should never have got a visa in the first place as he didn't meet the criteria, he tried to cheat and lie his way to getting one. His apology or explanation (or whatever it was) the other day really sealed it for me, and removed any empathy I might have felt for his situation. It was so obviously manipulative, and the way he tried to cast himself as a well-meaning innocent and throw all the blame on one of his team was just pathetic.

The whole thing doesn't reflect well on Djokovic, and the way it's been handled doesn't reflect well on Australia. But it's the right decision.

... is there time for another legal appeal before the tournament starts?

Ah you beat me to it !!!

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-59991762

The events surrounding his travel and COVID results is just too vague, the incorrect filling
of the immigration papers is also something unbelievable and also I wonder if what he said
in the interview at the airport with border force was different to his statement from a
couple of days ago?

The situation may have been handled a bit badly but I think the situation was complicated
given that the AO and state or Victoria were involved, The Border Force did their job initially.

I think this decision is aligned with popular opinion.
3322  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin vs Altcoin environment on: January 13, 2022, 08:06:05 PM
I'm a Bitcoin maxi and have very little time for Altcoins eventhough I have a very small
amount of Ethereum and Litecoin.

One thing with Alt's is the "When Lambo" following they get and the hype which surrounds
certain projects at a given time. The attention a project gets can eventually evaporate when
a new flavour comes along and the following shifts in the belief that the new project is going
to provide that Lambo, and on it goes.

As regards projects themselves, it seems the space is quite crowded, I'm there is a lot
of duplicity?

Bitcoin is what it is, it doesnt have a competitor.

The draw is ready: https://ausopen.com/draws#!mens-singles

Medvedev is not going to be much happy with his draw. Likely to face Kyrgios in 2nd round. Followed by Hubert in 3rd round. Its going to cost early in a long tournament.
Zverev must be extremely happy with his first 3 matches. First Altmaier then most likely followed by Millman in a 2nd and L.Harris in 3rd.
Djokovic starts against fellow Serbian Kecmanovic. Most likely followed by T.Paul in 2nd and Sonego in 3rd. Optimal draw for his part.
Nadal is going to have some really hard matches throughout the tournament as he starts with Giron. Most likely followed by Kokkinakis in 2nd, and Khachanov in 3rd.

I don't think that both Kyrgios and Hubert will be a threat to Medvedev at this point, Kyrgios is not that active although he will have the home court advantage although I've read that he has covid too.

So let's see what will be the final result of the draw, @cryptofrka draw a interesting point in his post, they should have delayed it until the Djokovic case is close.

^The draw seems quite interesting. Zverev seems like he got a comparatively easier matchup and I hope he will do good in all of them.

I also don't think that  Kyrgios and Hubert will post that much of a threat to him, Medvedev. If he's calm and composed and plays by the books, I don't see a reason for him to struggle against them.

I'm hoping Djokovic also will go a long way in this tournament but after all those controversies, will he be mentally stable to have the winning mentality like before?

With all those things happening in these few days, I think it might somehow affect Djokovic in his matches. But also he's a professional and he will try his best to not let these things affect him in-game.

I think Djokovic has been tested many times throughout his career so I doubt that he will be affected mentally with all the drama surrounding him in the AO.

And if ever he will play in this tournament and never got the love from the crowd it's understandable. But I doubt that it will have a negative effect on him. On the contrary, athletes like Djokovic thrive in this kind of environment and they love when the crowd is against them.

We for sure that is the case with Medvedev, he can seem to feed off the negativity
of the audience and seems to have better mental control, he used to quite wayward,
slamming the racquet etc.

On the other side there is Djokovic who does seem to get distracted/annoyed with
the audience at times even if there is a slight disruption, and can lose it too, look at
his disqualification in 2019 i think after hitting the ball into a line umpire.

You just wouldnt see Federer or Nadal doing that those two being the best comparisons
and Medvedev just serves through the distraction.
3324  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: January 13, 2022, 10:25:09 AM
I also think Medvedev will be ok with these match up's, This is his favourite surface
"hard court" so I really hope there is no upsets for him early on in the tournament.

On the ladies side and back to Raducanu, she has drawn a tough opener against Sloane
Stephens, who can be unpredictable performance wise. Would you bet on Raducanu
on this match? tough call IMO.
3325  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Make your plans and follow it, the year has started running already on: January 13, 2022, 07:30:08 AM
I learn several things during 2021. And I have some mistakes that I must take as self-experiences and lessons not to do the similar mistakes again.
Yeah, they are:
I am still too greedy.
I felt bad at the end of the year that I am too greedy for some coins that I really expect high expectations to rise up again and again. But in fact, the price keeps dropping and I lost my chance to take profits. I am doing this not because I want to hold them for the long term, but to get higher profits.
I always tried to suggest to others not to be greedy, but I think that I also made that kind of mistake, still being too greedy sometimes.

That is why, I should really care again about my plans on my portfolio, to check and recheck again my fund and risk management in order to evaluate what to do and not to do.
Having similar mistakes several times is very bad and regret will be always around here.
However, as you say, let's not think so hard about what has happened and the plans and life that must go on.
Just evaluate, analyze, and do better emotion and strategy this year so that I don't make any mistakes again.

Definition of Stupidity - doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
(no offense intended)

TBH almost all crypto apart from Bitcoin and Ethereum ?? is a risk.
one of the moves I did a few years ago was to convert all the $hitcoins I had back into
Bitcoin and I havent looked back other than to see those $hitcoins now are nowhere.

A good place to start this new year is indeed at a crypto portfolio and streamline it to be
only or predominantly Bitcoin.

3326  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Make your plans and follow it, the year has started running already on: January 12, 2022, 08:58:04 PM
2022 started with some very good opportunities we got the dip and we could buy BTC and many other coins at discounted price. I still don't understand why people become a victim of fear. when bitcoin price goes up they say I wish I had bought BTCs. and if bitcoin price drops then they dont buy Cheesy

So my advice for this year is to always keep your heart strong and whenever you get bitcoin/or your favorite coins at discounted price buy them and HODL

This happens a lot!
There is the FEAR that the price will go lower, its short term thinking.

My plans for this year are to spend less on rubbish like convenience foods and drinks,
and generally consume less in order to spend those savings on Bitcoin and continue
to look to the future rather than the here and now.

Emma Raducanu had a really poor match today against Rybakina in the Sydney International
tournament today, losing in less than an hour 6-0, 6-1. Thats dissapointing a week before
AI starts, ok Rybakina is a good player seeded 9 in the tournament but I expected a better
result for Emma

I think some of it can be ascribed to her having Covid over Christmas. She has recovered now, but she pulled out of last week's Melbourne tournament because she wasn't yet ready to play. So the match against Rybakina was her first of the year, and her first after Covid.

Ah yes, its a pity she only got minimal "game time" in before the GS.

Those darn agents ticking the wrong boxes

Yes, they tend to do it all the time....

TBH IMO that statement doesnt read well.
How unprofessional is that from your team, the team behind the #1 Tennis player,
I dont buy it. As well as the rest of the statement, its very hard to disprove what he claims
and because of how this has gone so far I'm not buying what he claims he did or did not do.

3328  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Strike has launched in Argentina on: January 12, 2022, 07:34:54 AM
Whether they will or wont adopt the Bitcoin standard is anyones guess but they will have
to do something in this current climate of rising inflation.

They have very little choices, their Peso is worthless and the US$ is not an option either so
Bitcoin is a real option especially as El Salvador is pioneering that use case ahead of
every other country.
3329  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: IS it possible to let your BTC work for you ? on: January 11, 2022, 11:57:53 PM
It is possible to lend your Bitcoin to a third party and in return you will get interest.

ledn.io
blockfi.com

are the 2 best known sites for this unfortunately you need to do KYC.

Also as many have mentioned, as soon as you send Bitcoin to your LEDN or BLOCKFI
account you lose control of them, yes you will be able to login and check the progress etc.
but they have the power to lock you out of your account as an example
You will not need to use private keys, private keys are just that PRIVATE.

I wonder why it is taking so long for a decision to be made regarding the new details?

Timelord, is there pressure on the immigration minister to make a decision on this,
given its still "open"?

Firstly - thanks for posting this, its really nice to get some background info on
Polymerbit and its creator. I am fascinated about your notes and how they are
created. I have a Lithographic Background and although apart from the designing
I can appreciate the printing and finishing however that is done have to
perfect, especially with a limited run of 100 or so prints. I can appreciate also
from a design aspect that eye for detail has to be 100%, as does the print of course.

Secondly - hanks to Minerjones for bringing you onto BCT.

Thirdly - January 2022 !!!!!!

This thread reads quite well

Looks like the cracks are starting to appear in CSW's claims ?we all knew there were there all along

Everything surrounding CSW is beginning to look way more interesting now,
as @Lucius says he wants to see CSW in prison, I would like it to be a long drawn
out process as the expense of CSW ending in the total ruination of him and his
accomplices.

I think it would be wise for Djokovic to actually leave the country anyway just in case
that ban is re-instated.

There is a report that Djokovic declared he had COVID on the 16th of December but
2 days later was at a public event. Very controversial, but thats Djokovic isnt it?

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2022/jan/08/novak-djokovic-relied-on-december-covid-infection-for-vaccine-exemption-court-documents-reveal
He is not planning to leave the country, quite the opposite. he is in Melbourne training with Goran Ivanišević. If he stays my bet goes on him, he will have something to prove and he would be top favorite even without that.

That positive test from 16th of December is either fake or he is really being a firs class idiot regarding covid situation. I am all for freedom of choice regarding vaccination but I can't believe somebody with positive test would be careless enough to mingle with the people and participate in social activities.

Ah but Trofo will be be able to handle the possible hostility of the audience?

If things start to go wrong will he be able to handle it? possibly, he isnt #1 for nothing.

He could be good for an outright win alright, I'm thinking Medvedev will be waiting for
him at some stage.

Nick Kyrgios has tested positive today for COVID, thats a pity for him for his home GS.

So now Djokovic has won his appeal... a crazy situation get even more absurd!

They've been ordered to release him from detention, reinstate his visa and return his passport, so he's free to compete in the AO...

... or is he? What has actually happened is that he's been released on a technicality because the judge has said the way they cancelled his visa wasn't right. This has zero bearing on whether he should have actually been granted a visa in the first place. The Australian immigration minister can quite easily still intervene and re-cancel it, and I imagine he's under quite a lot of pressure to do just that.

It looks like the case will just rumble on for a bit, until we've heard from the Australian government.

Yes the Immegration minister (Stephen Hawke) can use his ministerial powers to
re-instate the ban. If he does that Djokovic will not be able to enter the country for 3 years.

I think it would be wise for Djokovic to actually leave the country anyway just in case
that ban is re-instated.

That looks like a running battle against COVID, like a lot of sports. Its effects are still
showing in the URC and Heineken Champions Cup with suspended games.
Our national games here are effected with training restrictions also.

I'm looking forward to the new NRL season.

After the weekends round 10 in the URC Edinburgh do indeed go into top spot
by beating Cardiff 34 - 10. Gong forward Edinburgh are definitely a team much
improved this season and are ones to watch for this season.
3338  Economy / Speculation / Re: [POLL] Will Bitcoin dip below $40K? on: January 09, 2022, 08:41:45 PM
The sentiment I am getting from the community here is that there is not much optimism,
its almost like everyone! is expecting a sub $40k dip, I voted YES purely based on
the above and because I expect it to happen.

...as to what happens after that event is another question?
3339  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Everyone will receive a paper wallet in their post. Then what? on: January 09, 2022, 06:37:06 PM
COOL:

But people would be more aware, no?

- remotemass

There aren't too many people who dont know about Bitcoin, I guess if you are a
hater a paper wallet wont change your mind.

Maybe just maybe the paper wallet in the post would prompt people to use it and
buy some Bitcoin but it would have a limited effect.

Anyone who uses at least a Revolut account can buy Bitcoin there, the younger
generation will not want the hassle of dealing with paper and passwords and storage,
they want convenience, thats what Revolut provide.

Barty and Sanders won the Adelaide final as well as the singles final, It looks like she
is in great form for her "home" tournaments. Hopefully Osaka can make a great comeback
for AO and challenge Barty.

...and team Canada defeated Spain in two matches in the ATP Cup, Felix AA looked
really strong especially after being hammered by Medvedev yesterday.
