time was a little long 12 minutes that may have dropped to 18.09

no another rollover we must have needed 20  or 25 minutes to get alh home.
33502  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [100 TH] mmpool.org - 1.5% fee DGM/PPS - tx fees/vardiff/merge mine/tor on: December 18, 2015, 07:53:32 PM
Just found this thread and I am gonna give it a shot with some rental hash for a little while.  I am contemplating throwing my miners at it after the rental is done.

Thanks we can use the help!

I am renting 200Th for the next 8-9 hours and it is climbing the ranks currently. Wink

Awesome, nice to see more people getting involved in the community and pool!

With a few more dedicated miners I am sure we will start to find blocks more often.

Well we missed I am going to wait for diff to change and rent 300th for a while on  Fri around 2pm or so.

I am tossing 100th right now!
Question, when you rent hash and point it at a small pool like this, or even a CK Kano pool is profit purely based on luck or do you do it with your physical hardware already on the pool in hopes of hitting a few quick blocks?

This question is directed at philipma1957 or kilo17. Thanks!

Okay this pool has had 2 or 3 times of a lot of quick blocks.

which is what you hope for.

what you hope against is long 85% or more streaks like this one.

this hot streak below I did really well

of course you could get caught on a cold streak like the current one.

I mix my own hash with rentals here.  Once the new diff comes I will rent 100th again

Right now 18.14% is a rollover number.

That would bring us to 0.416 btc prize.

33504  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Overclock/Overvolt the Avalon6 with a DPS-1200FB Made Simple on: December 18, 2015, 05:57:52 PM
dps-1200fb. no issues with pi's. only once have i had a miner not show up even though it was blue and hashing.

okay I just bumped my  dual psu back to 12.55
see the hash at 3900 plus for each one
see the soft ware sensor at 12.4 and 12.2

the real volts are 12.55.

I have not booted just used the switch on the dual 2000 board from 12.23 to 12.55

I will do a cgminer restart now

and in theory see what happens. and it did restart

two screenshots show it is settling back in.  So I got a restart at 12.55 volts
my guess is this as to your lack of restart.  the psu needs 5 to 10% higher to restart then settles in a lower draw.

So at 12.5 or 12.6 volts  the psu needs 1300-1400 watts at the start and it can not do it. It lacks the overhead.

My psu needs 2600-2800 at the start  and it has 4000 watt top end so it can do it.  It is simply a case of having the  1200 watt psu at 12.6  if it were a 1500 watt the reserve would be there for the start.

Ac compressor's refrigerator compressor's  use a starter cap for that little bit of kick start juice needed.  My skill set in psu's is not that good to wire in a startup cap.

33505  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: December 18, 2015, 05:52:54 PM
Using a MultiMeter, the 2 x Dell PSU shows 12.1V even though Avalon shows 12V.  Don't see anywhere on the breakout board including the document provided by Holybitcoin / Gekkoscience where I can change the voltage.

it may have an internal pot

some do.

I personally never opened that psu..

33506  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Overclock/Overvolt the Avalon6 with a DPS-1200FB Made Simple on: December 18, 2015, 02:58:26 PM
only thing i notice with mine - if there is a problem (too hot, power loss, pool restart) they wont boot at that voltage. if i'm away then they stay off till i return and drop the voltage to restart them.

Mine reboot with 12.55 volt setting.

What psu do you have?  and if there is a power outage does the rasp pi reset.

I get one problem with hard power of then power on the problem is at 11.7 12.2 or 12.5 volts and the rasp pi finds 1 of the 2 avalon's not both.  So I need a software reboot. but I do reboot at 12.55 volts

I think the best result to come of this news is it's making Bitmain supporters/sellers squirm a bit.  I smell a price drop on miners coming soon😜  Well for me regardless of who is throwing the hash online.  For me the cat is outta the bag. 1 ex is on the cusp and like I've said buying miners now to only have the network jump 40% is just silly.  Been there done that with s1's. Only bad deal then price was dropping crazy aswell

Best regards
D57heinz

You were the first to call this.  Plain and simple.

The bottom line is they have a big farm.  Has to be 180 to 225 ph or more.  The only hope is they take it on and off line for a reason.( still has overheating issue?)

The evidence is

It should run well at 12.6  as I run mine at 12.55 for 20 hours with zero issues.

top screen shot is a dual avalon  they both get over 3900 gh
on finsky's dual 2000=4000 watt psu with high volt setting of 12.55

33510  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: December 18, 2015, 06:01:00 AM
Another issue I have seen and is reproducible is that some of the J4bberwok boards will not supply 12 volts.  I have one that I have tried on several different 1200's and they all read 11.3v when used with that particular board.

that is possible as solder could be off.
33511  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: December 18, 2015, 05:26:09 AM
Here is something for the electronically enabled:

Here is an obscure thread regarding the mod of a power supply to adjust the bus voltages. Discussed in this thread is the fact that some power supplies have onboard pots to tweak the 3.3, 5 and 12 DC outputs

http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=765175

Now opening up an ATX power supply is a potentially hazardous endeavor and messing about inside could kill you, so the responsibility is your own.

The big capacitors must be discharged WITH THE UNIT OFF AND UNPLUGGED from everything.

If there are multiple pots, you have to figure out which one controls the +12V output. You will also have to figure out which one increases or decreases the 12V output.

This will upend power supply selection somewhat if there are particular brands that have a board level pot to adjust the +12V output.

The thread has useful safety information which should be consulted.

The thread is 11 years old.  The safety info is okay but most likely  the psu's mentioned are not for sale or they have been redesigned.

I have yet to find a 2014 ,2015, 2016 model atx with a  pot for sale in the USA.

Someone linked one but it was not available in the usa.  If you have 120 volt power you just won't be able to overclock.

There are more factors with the avalon  it has 4 pcie jacks  you need to supply 275-300 watts a jack to get close to  3900 ghs.

This means 16 or even 15 gauge cables  not many atx psu's give you 16 gauge cables.

Right now it has been hot again in NJ it is 55f  my garage is 87f my bedroom is 81f  so I had to lower the 4000 watt dual psu  from 12.55 to 12.23

I get 3500 for each avalon 6 and I get strange volt readings.

12.2 and 12.0  power comes from same psu's with same length cables

I am pulling 2300 watts to get  7150gh  about .32 watts a gh  I have  a lot of overhead on the psu's

say 2300/4000 = 57.5% used  if you are pulling 1100 watts  on your 2 psu's  you are 1100/1500 = .733%  and your psu may be 750 watts at 240 volts and only 700 watts at 120 volts  so you could be 1100/1400 = .7857%
that is a safe number but may result in volts sag.

can you measure your volts?  and not the software one since I really do not trust the software readings mine should be = and they are not.

33512  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Gigantic difficulty jump of the last few days (speculation) on: December 18, 2015, 04:48:08 AM
I see some interesting things happening:

1. If Bitfury will be selling chips to anyone, then they are positioning themselves to be a.k.a Intel of bitcoin, then someone (maybe 21 inc) will be a software (mostly) arm-with their emphasis on programming solutions; Coinbase will be a bank, etc, etc.
Sooner or later a whole ecosystem will be fully fleshed out.

2. with 0.05 J/Gh, some dual use devices actually make more sense. For example, a dual use lamp w/mining chip.
Light ON-40W to light, 20 W to hashing, light switched off-all 60w to hashing.
Light on-hashing 400Gh (20W), lights off-up to 1200Gh-basically an S5 in a lamp!
How many lamps do you have? A few dozens easily.

Think of people with old school light bulbs burning 60, 75 or 100 watts a blub.  An led bulb burning 12 watts with a chip mining 5 watts same light at 17 watts and  some coin back.  I could see this happening.

If this pool doesn't at least hit one block every 14 days and each time difficulty is considerably increasing while the hashrate is stagnating... how are you ever going to get out of the variance trap?

You don't.

which is why we need increased hash rate.

The pool  needs to run at 150th or more at a steady average.

Nice to see a steady 200TH going on

Hopefully we have enough people to sustain this long term

I am going to back off until noon then go to 100th again.

I have used the material above and it is fire resistant on the foil side

Yes it is from a twin sized foam mattress top

I used a six foot wooden board cut to 36 inch lengths.
I attached the boards to both sides of the psu with double sided 3m foam tape.

under the psu are 3 layers  2 rugs the the egg crate foam

over the psu is a rug

see the 36 inch wooden boards the egg crate foam and a  pair of rugs under it. actually of the rugs is rubber standing pad.

and here is a rubber stand pad over it  the air flow of the fans is full speed with out restrictions

another look at this top standing pad

Hi Phillip, which S7 batch is this that you're able to get to 5.1TH using the 2880W PSU at 625 freq?  Very awesome.  My batch 8 S7 is arriving this weekend and I'm getting a 240V connection soon so it'll be interesting to see what the 2K IBM PSU can do for it.  What Voltage do you recommend setting for the Avalon 6 and S7?  12.5?

It is a batch 2 rated for 575 freq!  Got lucky with it.

The Avalon 6 likes the 12.5 that the dual 2000 = 4000 watt psu give it on high setting

The s-7 seems to like the 2880 watter on whatever volts 2880 watt psu gives

I suspect the 15 gauge cables and the fact I am using 1300 watts out of 2880 watts is why the s-7 does so well.

here are results with the avalon 6's and the s-7

and sound meter readings

on the den/home theater couch  with garage door open--- 39.7db

about 46.8  a few feet from garage door

at the garage door 52.4

in the garage 59.7 pointed towards the intake spot

the outflow spot = 60.9

lastly right at the intake of the 2880 watt psu 71.8 notice sound proofing i will post the sound proofing technique later today.
