3361  Other / Meta / Re: Could we have news/article section only for news and articles? on: May 07, 2018, 07:12:36 PM
Press section should be locked/archived in my opinion. More hassle than it's worth these days with people just posting any article that vaguely mentions something to do with crypto. It's mostly just alt spam anyway and a place sig spammers can get away with legally copy and pasting.

Definitely no.
Press section is the only place where i personally get informations related to cryptocurrencies. I do not visit directly news site, i read the headlines, pick what it seems to be interesting and read the summary in btctalk then continue reading the rest in the news sites.
Impose regulation is recommend. I prefer max 3 articles/topics per user per day. Duplicated topics aren't allowed even from different source, you can post it inside the first topic and mentioning what was added comparing to the first one (i used to report some of the duplicated posts in the past).

The fact that you mention cryptocurrencies is telling because anything other than bitcoin shouldn't be in there at all. I'm not sure why you need that board specifically especially because of all the constant spam of anything that vaguely mentions anything to do with crypto. It's meant to be for notable hits but consists of people just re-posting stuff from coindesk or their crappy blog so you would be better just using those sites. Losing that section isn't an issue at all either because anything of worth can and is already posted in the main discussion board.
3362  Other / Meta / Re: Merit system should be removed ! on: May 07, 2018, 07:01:22 PM
Just feel that many good quality posts by newbies and jr.s are miss-looked because people don't want to read opinions of low-rankers.
Date of registration or number of posts doesn't mean a person has nothing to say

Do you think people look at your rank before they decide whether to read the post or not? Don't be silly. People care about the quality of contributions and not your rank, but if you make quality posts you will soon rise through the ranks anyway.
3363  Other / Meta / Re: Combine merit abuse with delete post and you are good to go on: May 07, 2018, 12:18:50 PM
People should lose the merit if the post is deleted for whatever reason. Allowing it is just ripe for abuse as people can just merit shitposts or posts that are in fact copy and pasted then delete to hide the evidence.
3364  Economy / Reputation / Re: shdvb hacked? on: May 07, 2018, 12:13:40 PM
I'll change the negative feedback to neutral but something still doesn't seem 100% right about this. The fact that he deals in bitcoin for years yet can't provide a signed message from an address associated with the account is a bit suspicious.
3365  Economy / Reputation / Re: Chronic reservations maker 'Gibbs91_30' on: May 07, 2018, 12:08:43 PM
I deleted them. They're pointless. Looks like pure lazy spam to me and several people seem to be doing this for some reason and there's no good reason unless you're the op and are going to need the next one or two posts to provide further updates. The only other explanation I can think of is they're doing it to 'watch' the thread but you can use the watchlist for that.
3366  Other / Meta / Re: Appeal of banned account on: May 07, 2018, 12:04:00 PM
It was probably banned for copy and pasting. People obviously shouldn't be banned for sharing their own original articles but it should probably be noted that you originally posted it elsewhere and provide the source. Are your articles 100% original? Seem to get a few hits on google from other sources:

Multiversum (“MTV”) is, and I quote, a “4th Generation Relational Blockchain”, but what does that actually mean?

First generation is the original, Bitcoin and its forks. Based on Proof of Work mining. The second generation, Ethereum et al., introduced smart contracts and the possibility of tokenisation – consider how many cryptocurrencies run on the Ethereum blockchain. The third generation looked to build on previous generations and considered the issues of scalability and speed and making mining more energy efficient. Different approaches were considered, including Proof of Stake validation rather than mining and the possibility of off-chain routing.

3368  Other / Meta / Re: Hero banned for spamming on: May 03, 2018, 03:11:41 PM
Depends what it was banned for. What account is it? Accounts aren't usually permabanned just for spamming unless it's for repeated offences or for spreading anything malicious. If you were copy and pasting then that's a different matter and won't be unbanned.

Account name: Leepsteer00
I was bumping my topic ever 24 hours and I was not removing old bumps
I did not know that I should had remove it when I post new bump
If it possible to get it back I will never bump again
Thanx

Not unless you can verifiably prove it's yours as that account is hacked/sold and you're likely not the original owner:

Hi everyone,

I've explained what happened here(https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1398355.msg30478715#msg30478715)
but thought it might be better if I posted it again here.

I didn't log myself into this forum for years, and just discovered that I've been locked out from my own account (leepsteer00)
when I tried to log in just now.

Looks like my account has been hacked and controlled by some scammer(?)
Thus created this account (leepsteer) to post this disclaimer.

Is there any way that I can proof that I'm the legit owner of the aforementioned account?
Maybe via some address I've used in the past?
No, password reset by email/security question is not working.
And no, I didn't sell my account.

Looks like someone had already noticed that my account have been controlled by someone else.

Thanks in advance for any help given.

Edit: Sent a email reset request to Cyrus according to this thread. Thanks w5pn73 for the help given.
3369  Other / Meta / Re: Merit is a proof of brain concept on: May 03, 2018, 12:40:51 PM
If you start from a new account, then you will understand what you see is just a joke, I do believe no one can rise to Hero member under the merit system

It was also a joke that people can sign up here with literally hundreds of accounts and post nonsense everyday just to rank up and hence why the forum is such a shitshow. Now that's not possible without putting substantial effort into your posts. Lot's of people will rise to Hero member and a new user has nearly one and half years to get the required merit. If you can't get it in that time then you're probably contributing very little and don't deserve the rank.
3370  Other / Meta / Re: Multiply Account? on: May 03, 2018, 12:35:32 PM
It's not against the forum rules to have multiple accounts here, but I agree it's a problem when done industrially and most people who sign up to the forum these days probably do so with multiple accounts which has lead to things like the merit system being introduced. You can't really stop the practice and hence why people are allowed multiple accounts, but I think charging a substantial fee for the ability to have a signature would put a stop to farming but I doubt it will be implemented.
3371  Other / Meta / Re: Hero banned for spamming on: May 03, 2018, 12:30:15 PM

3372  Other / Meta / Re: Merit is a proof of brain concept on: May 03, 2018, 11:22:50 AM
hey  then why not make it fair to all of the members of BTT forum and implement a complementary system that  reduce  high rank members merits ( and if accumulated  it will reduce rank ofc )  if they dont get new merit in a certain time     . i mean they are heroes and  full members   it should be easy to get 1 merit  since they have more experience in the forum

that will for sure expose those fake rank members  that simply take from the forum with no giving back or contribution to make it better

Why is this necessary? You could just as easily argue that it's then not fair to all the old timers who have been making quality contributions here for years. I'm not sure why you really care about others either as it doesn't effect you at all. You should accept it and be more concerned about making quality posts to receive merit yourself because regardless of whether it was retroactive or not you would still be in the same position.

Another thing I have noticed about merit is that people only merit most popular posters even when it's clear those being merited don't need the merit for anything.

Or these more popular posters tend to make the best posts? It's not a coincidence. If you're 'popular' here it's probably for good reason and they're only popular because they've made posts over time that stand out. I would rather not give my merits to those that don't really 'need' them but if I see a post that I think is deserving or helpful I wan't to show appreciation of it. I think it's helpful to others as well to show what sorts of posts are deserving of merit.
3373  Economy / Reputation / Re: Need explanation if possible? on: May 03, 2018, 08:26:23 AM
The thread was trashed because it was nothing but pointless reserved posts by him except for your multiposting off topic nonsense.

Since you're so good with sarcasm in most of your posts,I'll just assume this is another sarcastic post at it's best and move on.  Wink

But he isn't good at it. His English is so incoherent most of his posts are nonsensical.
3374  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk English Premier League pool betting Discussion Thread on: May 02, 2018, 07:30:08 PM
Haha but there's usually always one upset a week and that's often how you often get ahead of the pack. Most go for predictable results and lose but I think you have to take a few risks along the way to get to the top. Doing so now could be the difference between places though.
3375  Other / Meta / Re: whether the banned account can be recovered? on: May 02, 2018, 01:03:34 PM
You can't recover it. It's remarkable how quickly people forget about their copying and pasting. Changing a few works doesn't make it ok either. And I think you mean "friend" because you're doing the exact same thing:

Is it true that the united states are spying on their own citizens?

Since the nine-eleven incident, the bombing of the World Trade Center and Pentagon Building on September 11, 2001, acts of terrorism have been one of the most frightening things for the world community.

However, with the rapid advances in technology, we can finally breathe a sigh of relief. Using a variety of sophisticated intelligence tools, we now know that the government can monitor every movement of terrorists to prevent acts of terrorism. However, what happens if this advanced technology is also used by the government to monitor us, secretly?

In today's digital era, everyone's gestures, in fact, can be easily monitored. This fact, first revealed by Edward Snowden, a former agent of the US Central Intelligence Agency. In 2013, Snowden leaked secret documents of the United States National Security Agency that proved that the US Government has been spying on its own citizens. How did this happen?

After the September 11 attacks, the United States government collaborated with N-S-A, initiating a terrorist surveillance program, aimed at preventing communications linked to al-Qaeda terrorist networks. In addition, the United States government also endorsed the Patriot Act, a law regulating the interception and surveillance of suspected terrorists, both at home and abroad.

But in practice, the United States government is not only spying on targets that are suspected of threatening the security of the state, but also the entire community without exception. From the data of mobile users, the NSA collects and stores METADATA, which is personal information like who is calling who, where, when, and for how long.

The danger, this program is also run secretly without the consent of the citizens who are supervised. Moreover, the NSA called on companies like Google and Microsoft, to provide their users' internet traffic information as additional data.

NSA also then asked Apple to create a program that can break the encryption code of the iPhone belongs to terrorists. However, Apple eventually refused, because according to them, this program can also be misused to violate the privacy of iPhone users around the world.

"The question is, what does the US Government do with all these data?"

In fact, the program does not allow law enforcement to capture more terrorists, or prevent acts of terrorism. This program is actually used for example to monitor people who come from the Arabian mainland as well as Muslim-majority countries. Probably, it is true that too much random data is not profitable, but rather dizzying.

After all, we live in an era where smart phones and computers become an important part of everyday life. Now, our security is more threatened because anyone, can spy on anyone. Tools to tap the phone from a distance can be obtained easily. A British and German cooperation company has even created applications that can hack our phones, such as activating the camera and voice recorder without us knowing it at all.

State surveillance is necessary to prevent crime, let alone terrorism. However, the program is also prone to abuse to limit our right to argue, assemble, and express.

In France, for example, state surveillance has been used to stop protests about climate change. While in Turkey, state surveillance is used to imprison those who criticize the government.

For 32 years, the Indonesian people themselves have experienced state surveillance that greatly suppress freedom. It was only after the 1998 Reformation that we could develop into one of the most democratic countries in Southeast Asia.

Currently, we can enjoy the freedom that is very widespread in the real world and cyberspace. Indonesia guarantees these freedoms by adopting several policies, such as the Information Disclosure Act, the Press Law and the I-T-E Act.

In order for this freedom not to disappear suddenly for reasons of state security and stability, we must realize that freedom of expression, assembly, and expression is a right to be fought for.

However, this right should also be used responsibly. On the other hand, state surveillance must be balanced by a good justice and law enforcement system. The government also needs to be transparent and open to surveillance practices. For example wise determine which internet sites need to be blocked and which are not.

How do you think about this?

Post the signed message here so somebody can verify it. If it's incorrect or not valid then you're just likely just wasting both yours and the admins time with this.
3377  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk English Premier League pool betting Discussion Thread on: May 02, 2018, 12:20:00 PM
That is me, highest outcome correct scores, 5, highest score of a single round yet, 210 points. If I repeat it (which I highly doubt I will) in a week from the last two, things will change a lot but that can happen only in my dreams, last 2 weeks I have had a miserable performance overall.

The last two rounds and especially this one seem to have a lot of tricky games so even getting 100 points each round could take you to the top depending on other's results. I'm not confident this week and could be a potential wash out. West Brom vs Spurs could be an upset as they need to win for even a chance of staying up but don't know if I've got the balls to back them at such a stage. I'll see what the result of the Stoke Vs Palace game is at the early kick off because if Stoke win then I think West Brom are down. If Stoke Lose then West Brom will go for it but I still think they need Stoke Swansea and Southampton to lose or draw their games and a few of those teams are playing each other which makes it even harder for them.
3378  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: scammed by an escrow Nelka4+ LogicaM on: May 02, 2018, 11:44:15 AM
The OP might be running an Account selling/Buying service. I created my newly Escrow Service thread just 2 to 4 Hours back. The OP would have seen my thread and thought i am Just Sr. Member what i can do, let's try to scam him. So he planned this entire scenario, He talked with himself first, with his another account and pretended that i had done a conversation with him and scammed him with his money.

Nice story lol ! Let's see what Yahoo thinks of this.

You shouldn't even be offering escrow services in the first place and this is why. You have zero trades here so not sure why you (and the guy who used you) thought you were qualified to be a trusted source to hold on to others funds. Escrow is meant to be a highly trusted individual with a strong Reputation here so there's minimal chance of a scam happening and when you use random people things like this are going to happen because they will run off with any amount of money they can get their hands on.  Roll Eyes
3379  Other / Meta / Re: Merit is a proof of brain concept on: May 02, 2018, 08:58:34 AM
ou could literally have as many Hero accounts as you wanted just by logging in once a day to claim a giveaway and 1.4 years later you'd have an arsenal of Hero accounts farmed to do what you want with.
And I'm so happy those days are over.  Let the noob shitposters bitch and moan about the system, but they'll either adapt to it by upping their game or give up.  Either outcome is a win for the forum as a whole.
Bitcointalk really turned to shit last year.
No, it wasn't just last year that it turned to shit.  One of the first things I noticed even before I registered here in 2015 was that a lot of writing sounded like it came out of the Bizarro-Superman planet, and also that no one replied to any post other than the OP in a thread.  It was obvious very early on that there was less discussion going on than people churning out posts without reading anything in turn.  There are a lot of threads that ask a basic question, and if you read the replies you'll see the same answer duplicated dozens of times--and it's not necessary.  That's been going on for years.

Exactly. bitcointalk has been circling the drain for years and sig spam has been a problem as long as I've been here but the spam today doesn't anywhere near compare to how it was back then and the longer we left it the worse it got until it obviously reached fever pitch. It's a simple fact that the majority of people signing up to this forum are doing so just to earn and they see it purely as money making site. Most of the people here these days probably have little to no actual interest or knowledge of bitcoin and are only here because their friend/schoolmate/auntie/ dog told them they can make easy money here and we can see this in the sort of threads they post in or create. This is why the Off Topic and Politics boards are such a mess because they're often the only boards they can post something about. And then there's the dozens of threads that are created almost every couple of days asking how you heard of bitcoin or bitcointalk and they're filled with the same answers: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3363270.msg35226256#msg35226256

When you're young, can't speak English very well and know little to nothing about bitcoin what are they expected to do? Factor in that they probably have multiple accounts and it's just a recipe for disaster. Something needed to change.

Them guys keep missing our point because they do not know the struggle at all. Wish you guys would go back to being a newbie or jr member and let us watch you rank up. Show us that doing our thing and creating helpful posts will give us profit.

If you're posting here for "profit" and you're having a hard time - that's great, this means the merit system is already working.

The only people who are complaining about this are those who's profit is effected. The merit system doesn't curb anyone's ability to post here but just earn and this is all it's ever been about. As for us going back to Newbie I'm sure most of the higher ranked users in this thread would have no issue in getting the required merit if that happened as we have no issue in making quality contributions. Many of us already have a lot of merit that we don't need but we got it for making great posts. If anyone else made them then they would get the points too, but most people aren't interested in writing anything more than a line or two these days unless they're complaining about something.
3380  Other / Meta / Re: Let's see what is the condition now.. on: May 02, 2018, 08:24:17 AM
How many of these threads do we need? There's already dozens asking the same or just complaining about merit. And I'm not sure what the poll is going to achieve as a poll is useless here. The thousands of people who signed up with multiple alt accounts just to earn here by making poor posts are obviously going to vote one way and the older members who are already ranked up are just going to see it as a good thing because it stops the users who I've just mentioned and vote the opposite. Yes, we get it, people who just wan't to come here to earn straight away aren't going to like the system. Yes, it is relatively hard for people putting little to no effort into their posts to get it. And so it should be. The only other option aside from paying for a signature (which you would probably cry all the same about) is to remove signatures completely and if that happened you and everyone else who are complaining about merit would disappear like a fart in the wind because this place would instantly be of no use to you. And that's why merit is a good thing. People now have to actually earn their position in rank here.
