Ukraine could learn a thing or two from ex-Yugoslavia. Lesson one: don't send troops into the hostile territory if you're not willing to use them. Lesson two: if you decide to use your troops, use them to their full capacity.
Not doing so will affect the morale of your soldiers, and bolster the other side.
Lesson 3: If the troops and "the other side" is the same people, it gets really messy. |

What if China decides to annex Vladivostok in retaliation for Russia's refusal to allow them to put "Made in China" stickers on the Russian rockets? How can scientists and mathematicians work in such a tense environment?

One thing I heard on the open comm yesterday from one of the people, was that he saw a column or Russian tanks near border near Voloshino (?), whose commander reportedly said that he was standing by, awaiting orders. Just read info that 6 APCs were either captured of defected to the side of the people in Kramatorsk. Reliable information? No. A commentator on a news thread claiming to be from the region. The best source was that open comm channel, but it's, alas, down. The personnel on that picture looks too relaxed to be moving in into a war zone, so it does not feel genuine. |

I finally start seeing the picture with the "human right oppression". Guess what? It's gay! After yesterday's news, I read today that gay parades were red-lighted in both Sevastopol and Simferopol, so Russian gay society is going to the human rights court against both of these administrative regions. Just read info that 6 APCs were either captured of defected to the side of the people in Kramatorsk. Last I heart yesterday on www.ustream.tv/channel/bg-studio1 (it's down today) was that the deaths at the Kramatosk airfield were not confirmed. Several people saw helicopters that were unloaded, but no one could witness dead people, not even through their contacts in the official channels. |

Listening to that radio, the situation there is much more serious than painted by either Western (not painted at all) or Russian media. There are several reports of mobile networs/stations being shut down and people unable to contact some of the regions. And above all they feel abandoned information-wise, with no way of contacting the big world and explaining the situation, showing it. |
