3361  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Australian crypto exchange suspends withdrawal on: November 16, 2022, 01:52:40 PM
Never heard of them, but as I mentioned in another FTX thread yesterday, Malaysians I knew lost their jobs overnight, so it's obvious they had quite a few roots in Asia and the Pacific. It will be another few more weeks I think until we see the true extent of FTX's reach -- their direct investments would have been known by now but the 2nd and 3rd level reaches will only become clear as they become known.

Reading about "funds of funds" about to report/reveal their exposure in coming quarter reporting.
3362  Economy / Economics / Re: Has the popularity of bitcoins reduced interest of people in stocks? on: November 15, 2022, 07:03:08 PM
Nah, if anything interest in stocks has increased popularity in Bitcoin. Stock guy sees some kind of crypto or Bitcoin-tied stock, or futures or options, fancy derivatives probably gets all excited because he can use all kinds of financial facilities as a stock broker to get all kinds of fancy Bitcoin derivatives. It's a whole new market for them, stock people. Without even ever needing to actually touch Bitcoin.

Why do you think stock big guns like eToro went all hot and heavy on Bitcoin?

More seriously, I do get what you mean. But people interested in stocks are interested in speculating... so I don't think Bitcoin's the one really feeding the flames with a new asset to speculate on. It's the rest of crypto.

Flog the flokis and the SOLs, you know.
3363  Economy / Speculation / Re: The most stupid dip in Bitcoin's history - and why we can be happy now on: November 15, 2022, 04:21:16 PM
Well, I do agree that most of these market-knee-jerk events have a positive undertone. Mt Gox taught people for the first time "not your keys, not your coins"... remember this was a time when even forum old hands like R. Ver was recommending exchanges to people. Bitcoin getting banned taught people to move to p2p. FTX and Terra taught people more of the same, Binance rejecting the suicide prevented a bigger monopoly yes...

But it was a negative reaction because when something implodes, the market reacts in proportion to exposure, as it always does.

Price, as we all know by now, in the immediate term, has little to no correlation with fundamental value.
3364  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BTCapsule is a program to easily timelock your bitcoin for inheritance on: November 15, 2022, 03:14:22 PM
Hopefully people will try out the testnet version and post their experience here soon. The problem with a program that requires the future is it will take some time to get feedback.

However, if you’re interested, I have two transactions that I completed so you can see for yourself that BTCapsule indeed works on mainnet.

Thank you! I'll have to remind myself to come to test it out myself, as mentioned, one of the things on my mind (even if on the backburner) is to really work out how to pass my things on, and at the same time work out a way to make it legible to the receiver. The part on fees concerns me at the moment, impossible to foresee what the network and price would look like in 5 years, never mind decades.
3365  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽⚽⚽ Sportsbet's Bitcointalk World Cup 2022 - discussion ⚽⚽⚽ on: November 15, 2022, 01:20:02 PM
Test completed, looks good! @Slissy: Qatar, eh? Wink

Slackovic comes from our local section, he only recently found the will to start writing in gambling after we spent years luring him here. So be gentle with him  Grin Not so much into sports other than big competitions like WC, but other than that enormous character flow, a realy good guy  Grin

We had to have one group of death for it to be a propper competition.

Yes, up until a month ago I was writing almost entirely in our local section. But now that the World Cup is starting I started to follow the Gambling section. After a few days I noticed that most of you are normal people and not some gambling addicts that are just talking about betting. I even started my own thread about Croatian football league. It's not that popular because the league is not popular but we will see if it will catch up when the World Cup ends and league matches start again.

Well, then a warm welcome to you friend! I still get a small tingly feeling of excitement each time a new user comes to my part of the bitcointalk woods -- I know the forum's much, much larger than the section I'm active in, and to be fair, gambling also wasn't my most active section initially so I know how tough it can be to "break in".

I've had good enough fortune to meet many people from forum, initially just Bitcoin people, but more recently guys from gambling and the good news is they are really cool people, regular and normal as can be, with unique interests you couldn't really find in normal life heh.

I saw your thread actually, and never commented only because I know zero about the leagues there but that kind of diversity is awesome. I have been thinking also about creating a new thread on Women's football, as that's probably one of the seriously untapped markets (gambling wise) and after watching some tournaments recently, I admit the quality is really catching up in Europe, probably even better than some regular football leagues I've played in or watched.

What I like about this pool I think we actually have locals supporting. From what I can gather looking at users, English, Aussies, Croatians, Argentinians, Welsh, US Americans, Canadians, Danish at least have reps here (I actually wonder if it's a good idea to voluntarily note our nationalities too, just for fun of course). I know we have at least one Nigerian I can see, too bad they're not in WC. Any Ghanaian, Cameroonian, Senegalese..?

We need to lure a Brazilian from Sportsbet though!

We can technically even say that it is proven as well. I mean of course "it will not bankrupt" is not something you can really prove, any business in the world could go bankrupt, even tesla/amazon/apple size companies could go bankrupt if we are looking at it from the technicality stand point.

However, if we are being realistic, freebitco.in has been around for many many years, and they have been getting attacked probably every day of that period and still keep everything safe and secure no matter what happens. Which is a great proof that no matter what happens, they have the funds to back it up and not going to get screwed and fail to pay people back.
Funny enough when i fist found freebitco.in their GUI and ADS looked so shady that i thought there would be no freaking way i would deposit anything there. Turned out that it outlived many exchanges that were considered safe. They never stole my faucet bitcoin and always paid the winnings. And they have standed the test of time and i haven't heard one complain about them. Looks can be very deceiving.

I've been using the site for years, probably one of the most passive users here. Until recently when I got FUN I hadn't deposited anything in years, so yeah, I would say site's been great but have not risked a lot to back that up either. Realistically, you can't ever really judge a site's "trustworthiness" in terms of always paying out, especially when you can't see the entire business strategy, financial report, proof of reserves etc. but in crypto, there is some intangible benefit of being around for a long time without payment issues.

However, no matter how much I "trust" this site, or even my favourite brand of sportsbook/casino (which should be obvious to anyone reading my post history), I'm not giving them the keys to my crypto kingdom =)

So be careful, regardless. Put in what you can afford to lose. In fact, expect to lose it.
3367  Economy / Gambling / Re: Sanitize the Gambling Board. on: November 15, 2022, 09:05:34 AM
Definitely, OP, use the report function. It's easier and works better than anything else. Threads like these only attract the very users you're complaining about (also I recommend OP self moderates and help clean up the forum by deleting spam).

I do feel reporting, over time, improves the quality of posts from poster. Forcing them to put in more effort. I don't know if that's good in the long run, they're essentially still garbage posts with little to no value to the gambling subforum, just with better spelling and better-constructed sentences...

Who can indicate a person is a real gambler? technical members sometimes drop by here (even if he's not a gambler) at the request of other members to help sort out "probably fair" issues on certain platforms that have been the subject of much debate, especially since it's their ANN thread.

This is the easiest thing in the world to tell on this forum. Real gamblers post bets. Know the odds, know the markets. It's not even about showing off as a lot of people hide their bet amounts (I do myself). If it's technical assistance as you mention or ANN thread owners, then they're gambling industry people (trust me, that means they were gamblers at one point themselves).

The vast majority of posts in Gambling Discussion aren't either. I've noticed people now talking about odds and betting but it's pretty clear most are just parroting or Googling.

Most times I feel we don't encourage the new members rightly because from our actions, we tend to treat the low ranked memmebers of the forum as if they automatically ought to know everything at once which isn't right.

Very fair point but it works both ways and you can also easily find the ones who don't want to make an effort. In my self moderated threads I do reach out to new users to talk about why I delete their posts, very, very few respond. They're clearly just there to spam and not interested in contributing.

Not to say I don't count my blessings, was a pretty cool weekend for me but I'd have been a lot happier if not for damned Mourinho who got sent off haha, but shame on me for trusting his team today... and you know, they got a penalty in injury time, but missed?

Insurance is of course better than nothing back but anyway, it's going to be a long month before I get back to getting mad at Italian football, as they're literally absent for the next few weeks heh.

3369  Economy / Exchanges / Re: FTX has been hacked, delete the app, don't go to website on: November 14, 2022, 03:34:40 PM
I just heard from the best friend of a member of my family that they were affected by FTX too. These were people employed in Malaysia (had no idea). Actually met them in the summer when they told me they were working in crypto too, very good company, very good job, somehow slipped my consciousness if they actually mentioned FTX.

Spectacular fallout with the staff is what I'm hearing. Losing their jobs overnight is one thing, but most of them actually kept their money/crypto savings with FTX and can't touch it now. I almost regret now not advising them when we met about "not your keys" but I did mention not to trust companies to take care of you (crypto or otherwise), but I'd long ago stopped trying to tell people they didn't really have BTC if they bought it and it lives in some app.

They're younger than me, and new to crypto, this is a hard lesson to swallow for anyone, really feel bad for people who got in like this.

Something tells me when they uproot this whole mess, there will be plenty of other unforeseen exposures.

Looks like I missed one hell of a weekend, some 500/1 guy winning pole, and then Russell reminding everyone that he's actually still racing haha.

I'm in 8th place now with one final race to go. Anyone want to do me a favour and not put in picks for the next weekend? Wink MoSala and CLS63: early congratulations to the both of you. I know

@boltz all in on Hammie next then yeah?
3371  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io Betting discussion thread rev on: November 14, 2022, 12:09:32 PM
Ah yes, Arsenal Roulette. So there were only 4 matches on the Arsenal Roulette promo and I actually skipped the EFL Cup game so only qualified for 3 freechips. Got all the wins on the bets themselves nicely too, and almost 3/1 on the ML win vs Chelsea, so it was already $150 in the bag just on the bets alone.

Played 2 of my 3 freechips today and didn't win anything, unfortunately. Should be getting the last chip soon, will throw it all on the same final third to see if I'll get anything from that.

My actual total is now down to $540, but that's because I've thrown down $100 on Brazil for the outright promo. Guess I've to wait til end of World Cup to see how far I get my USDT Wink

I recognise Mitch from my group (D) and I feel like I recognise Renampun from somewhere, but Slackovic, can someone remind me who this guy is? I want to suss up my competition first, but I think I agree Group H is the Group of Death judging from just usernames I'm familiar with.

We wanted to play this one really bad and commented on it many times internally but it is impossible to lead competition like this and make it absolutely impossible for us to gain some advantage. What is more important it would be very difficult to prove withot any doubt. For instance we have to have able to see what you guys post to grade it and how to prove we did not check what our rivals answered?

Maybe we could have utilised blockchain to that effect but that would mean paying transactions by every participant and then we would probably not even get 32 players.

Wish there was more time to help you guys do this, maybe next big competition (I guess euros?). There has to be a way, and to use a cheap blockchain (or even almost free blockchain) with timestamping -- but yeah, the only way that probably fits everyone is to have it all impartial on the side of the organisers.

Still, I hope you guys have as much fun as us.
3373  Economy / Economics / Re: FTX drama and it’s long term consequences: Bitcoin is a confidence Game. on: November 14, 2022, 08:47:20 AM
Not sure I can ever come close to being neutral to Pompliano, his voice and manner rubbed off the wrong way when I first listened circa 2017/18, but there are some points to it being a confidence game, but a reminder also that only as much as FTX and all scams are con(fidence) jobs.

P.S. The zero BTC reserves at FTX really did surprise me. I'd have expected at least fractional reserve, not zero reserve. I feel bad for regular joes there but this hopefully reminds people they're absolutely not buying Bitcoin at all when buying at exchanges or PayPal or anything that magically gives you numbers in an account when you feed it money.

No idea why I didn't join this Sorare thing you guys talked about even from before, seems more people are serious about it, more than ever (I guess it has something to do with actually paying for cards which I can't wrap my head around to ever doing).

Waiting for someone to share tips: I'll do my best to at least justify my selections.

Im in! I did use the link from sportsbet… Can you see my name Slissy? I did use the auto pick first then later change my team😄

Nice to see you again, think you went off forum for a while! It's Sojourner here.
3375  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Odds, units advantage | Sportsbook | +85933 units on: November 13, 2022, 05:19:04 PM
Wow ) Probably no one expected that Manchester City would actually lose this game (even the referee who probably added so much time for Manchester City to win and not lose hahaha), but it happened.
Taking into account the fact that you spent money on hedging, did the final winnings turn out to be x18? This is really a minor loss relative to x19. At what minute of the game did you hedge?

Haha, yeah, but almost every win I have in this thread is unexpected, hence the longshot odds... but proving that season after season, you cannot ignore the value of such odds. TBF I thought it'd be longer than 10 mins injury time as Laporte was treated for 8 or 9 minutes, and normally you have min 3 mins injury time anyway.

I hedged 100 units so yes, it is as if it was x18, which means profit will only be 17x (as you'll notice I only add profit minus wager when I win). But it was a good hedge as I noticed Brentford actually played really well, and it was Half Time odds (as I noted in the bet itself). So I would have made profit even if Toney didn't score in the end, but happy I did as draw odds were going down actually as soon as second half started.

I'll update totals next time I put my bet here, thanks for following Wink
3376  Economy / Gambling / Re: FORTUNEJACK.COM |Deposit 777 play with 1777 mBTC |Live Casino, Slots, Betting on: November 13, 2022, 04:39:59 PM
The day I don't pick Ings, he gets two goals haha. But it's never easy with Villa (second I think to Chelsea in terms of picking who the hell will be on the scoreboard).

Another dud week.

I think the next round if there's a Liverpool and Manchester City play, we should choose Firmino and Foden. Firmino and Foden usually give a contribution by score at least one goal. As for Arsenal, Jesus isn't same as the beginning, Odegaard is currently shot more goal even though he play at central attacking midfielder position.

Nah, still Haaland for me, and if not Salah, Nunez. They're penalty takers, and are guaranteed to have chances, and are starters and tend to stay on the full 90 minutes. I'd feel idiotic for missing out on prizes just because I got smart and not picked those with the highest chances/goals ratio.
3377  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Germany League - Bundesliga Prediction Thread on: November 13, 2022, 03:37:00 PM
Big match today between Freiburg vs Union Berlin and based on head to head statistics it showed Freiburg had good records than Union Berlin but Freiburg records while against the teams in the top 5 was quite poor and today Freiburg hoping will gets the winning result again through an this match but Union Berlin also had same mission that after losing points from their 2 recent matches Union Berlin also had ambition to gets 3 points.

Been betting on both of them plenty this season, until the last couple of games in Europa, Freiburg especially letting me down but that's more because of my insistence on Ritsu Doan making his team more than they are.

Their form going down has coincided with Bayern improving, and so we're left with both pretenders needing to win today to keep their spots alive for Champions League.

Berlin coming off that terrible Leverkusen loss and then away draw, look the more vulnerable. BTTS the safest bet here, but I'm keeping my distance.

Happy days at the office with that Arsenal win, Steve?

Thanks for that, Steve. A real blockbuster of a weekend of sport. I’m really looking forward to it. My little bet is still on, England to win the cricket AND football World Cups. First leg of that double this Sunday & I really think they are going to do it.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

I did see your 5/1 outright on England, so well done, now all you need is for England to really take the cup home. Have to say am not keen on their chances, but after coming so close in Euros, they might just do it all the way this time, as long as they win key matches in the KOs... great teams don't fade away after coming in close, as Liverpool somehow kept doing again and again (Champions League, then EPL), so hey, definitely good luck!

What a UFC card we just had  Shocked.

Oh damn I completely forgot about this one! Meant to put something in on it, but all the EPL excitement made me forget -- very nice catch and very nice amount (don't even know how much TRX is these days but I just checked and it's a very very fancy pizza amount at the very least!).

Definitely a nod to Adesanya for accepting the challenge, not overlooking how hard it was for Pereira to come through to that stage.

Atalanta and Inter BTTS was probably the easiest thing to guess, but I was so sure the home team would have this one. Lost out to Napoli narrowly, fine, that was against a great team but Inter's been so vulnerable away from home.

Couple of you guys getting exact score from this too, 3 Inter goals and only 1 shot on target, thanks to 2 lucky own goals ha!

This is how Napoli will win, all their rivals taking points off each other on the most important games. Do need Milan to win today as they're on my ticket along with Roma and Monza... something I could never imagine myself saying in early season haha.
3380  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: November 13, 2022, 12:03:07 PM
Newcastle was well worth their win, weren't they? Another Almiron masterpiece really, even if the first half didn't show any shots on goal, it was breathless nevertheless.

Was going to put a small bet on Fulham today but only 4/1? Have United fallen so low?

Hope you profited on this one then, nobody else was cray enough to take Brentford today I am sure.

Most def did. Anything above 10/1 from a team not in the Big 6 is auto bet for me. Best thing is I took an early bet at 16/1 and then another when it rose to 19/1.

I would have profited well from Toney's brace today If hadn't sold him from my FPL after his 5th yellow in game week 14, but then Haaland as captain and the best he could do in 90 minute is pick up a yellow card, I should have listened to your Nunez cry  Angry

Now that I have Salah back, Liverpool has scored 3 goals and he's not involved in any, very typical!

Haha yeah, Nunez taken off early too, and I noticed Robertson has been racking up the assists, while TAA is being protected a LOT, Elliott is almost rushing back every counter to help him out. Salah should have had TWO goals too, Nunez should have had a couple of assists too if not for Salah and Bobby's shots getting saved. Great win, nevertheless, and we don't look so bad now before the break.

Anyway, I don't think anyone ever guessed Arsenal leading the table by FIVE points this soon in the season. Amazing!

17 wins from 19 games in all competitions, but I still don't trust them. I'd wait for 25 game mark and after they've met City to make a judgment call.
