3361  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Quiet [40 dB, 8 THs/500 W] Hotmine Convector Miner. Product Overview on: June 11, 2019, 09:32:59 PM
price seems high but maybe i read translation wrong.

62 watts a th is okay for a quiet space heater.

Well it appears to produce the same 8 TH than the R4, but at what wattage, 500w?

Passive cooling sounds interesting, where does the 40db come from? Its psu?

15Kg is like 3 times heavier than the R4 Smiley

Price is, a bit expensive, but so was the R4. At this point in time spending the same amount for 8 THs i'm not sure its worth. You could take something like a damaged S17/S15 with just two or one working boards and achieve the same or better.

Don't get me wrong, silent miners are important, i welcome this addition. Would love to see something with MicroBT or Bitmain newer chips...

Who is Frodo?

16v got very lucky this time...
3363  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Consumption management on: June 11, 2019, 10:32:42 AM
Hello!

I try to change parameters of ASIC Antminer S9. I found how is possible to change chips frequency by direct setup frequency (in MHz) or/and by setup voltage (in volts) but i did not find how to manage them by consumption (in watt).

Is it possible to manage ASIC consumption by setup consumption (in watt) directly?

Well you simply can't. Best you can do is guesstimate, if you measure your own miner with each different setting,

I suggest you don't bother with this unless you are willing to provide full source code.
3364  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Another S9 not working on: June 11, 2019, 10:24:38 AM
Thanks just been looking on https://braiins-os.org. It all looks a bit complicated.

Do you know if I can download the old software from Bitmain?

There is no complication if your miner has the sd card reader (some don't).

All you do is:
  • put the image in the sd card
  • turn off miner
  • move jumper jp4
  • insert card
  • turn on miner

It cannot be more simpler than that. Well it actually can, if you decide to flash it to your controller instead...

Never ever use Bitmain firmware from 2019, it won't let you downgrade, and closes ssh.
3365  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Another S9 not working on: June 09, 2019, 12:56:07 PM
Do try booting with Braiins OS, you can simply put an sd card and move jumper jp4 to boot from it. Braiins OS allows fixed frequency settings among other goodies. Take our the sd card and move the jumper back and its like nothing ever happened.

Far better than messing with Bitmain firmware,  especially avoid 2019 versions.
3366  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Old Blockchain Vs new Blockchain ..... Bitcoin & Co Vs Amazon, Google, Facebook on: June 09, 2019, 11:31:02 AM
Bitcoin is not competing with Facebook or Google blockchains.

Bitcoin is meant to be decentralized, wild, without any control or central authority.  PoW allow bitcoin to be resilient against any attempt to control it.

On the other hand those blockchains are supposed to be controlled and used by those companies interests.

I wouldn't exactly call it wild, its more like anarchism, or anarcho-capitalism where a community that invests in it (with mining gear) get to control it collectively, but decentralized.

This community more or less made Bitcoin incorporate segwit, among other subtle changes during its lifetime.

A large Chinese entity wanted (and tried) to steer Bitcoin to another direction, but failed, and like the rest, resorted to make yet another altcoin.

Corporate coins are not too different to government coins. They are all "control" freaks, and with it comes centralization and weakening of their own blockchains. So this facebook thing only millionaries can run nodes, that means there will be few of them.
3367  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin will be legally accepted in every country in the next 10 years? on: June 07, 2019, 08:12:00 PM
Do you think Bitcoin will be legally accepted in every country in the next 10 years? But I think that Bitcoin will be legally accepted in all the countries within the next 10 years. Not sure about the other crypto coins, but everyone has confidence in Bitcoin, so it can be said that Bitcoin will be fully validated in all countries. Bitcoin's popularity and popularity have increased day by day.
The government of many countries are now thinking about the bitcoin. That day is not far away when Bitcoin will be legally acceptable in all countries.

Maybe not in all countries (stupidity still dominates some), but more and more will understand and accept it, and thus bring new sources of wealth to their people.

Even if its not legal in a couple of places, people from there will still transact underground. Bitcoin is unstoppable, as much as the internet, and some even argue more than, because of decentralization and blockchain.

The game is not over, but Bitcoin is winning.
3368  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Breaking News! Third world nation bans BTC. 10 years in jail for holding crypto on: June 07, 2019, 08:04:17 PM
India has decided to completely ban the possession, sale and purchase of Bitcoin or any other form of crypto-currency.

According to the mainstream media, the measures will be implemented this month, with a 90-day waiting period. Anyone who don't "dispose off" their crypto holding within this time period will be charged with non-bailable criminal offenses, which can be punished by up to 10 years in jail.

What makes this measure different from others is that while countries such as Nepal and Bangladesh have arrested random individuals for trading in cryptocurrency (or for exchanging crypto for fiat), none of the authorities anywhere in the world have arrested users just for the possession of crypto-currency.

There are an estimated 100,000 crypto-traders in India, and there are another 5,000,000 individuals who have dealt with crypto at some point of time.

And how exactly the Indian authorities are going to enforce this? Their stupidity is infinite.

Boot Tail OS live linux iso, make cold wallet with Electrum, write your seed words, share your wallet addresses online or whatever, shut off pc.

Where is the money? In the blockchain. People don't "possess" bitcoin, or wallets for that matter...

Now they would have to "prove" an individual could control a group of coins, how are you going to do that? The seed words are perfect for stenography, just pick a random book and mark some words, etc.

India should take a look at its neighbor China to see how well they ended enforcing things like that, ie. quite the opposite result.

Indian people might take it underground, but stopping it is impossible, it is designed to prevent this,

If you are Indian make your cold wallet now and keep your coins safe until those old fools making this "law" leave this plane of existence. Banning Bitcoin is a perfect way to keep wealth away from your country, don't be surprised one of your neighbors adopt it and become rich while you continue the misery for your people.

Please OP, don't say "Third world country", spell it correctly: India wants to impoverish their people even more by banning Bitcoin.
3369  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Braiins OS: open-source mining firmware [S9, T1]. New release includes AsicBoost on: June 07, 2019, 03:35:42 PM
New version out!

2019-06-05-0
All mining hardware types

  • [feature] YES, we have a new logo that is consistent with the new Braiins logo, hope, you like it ;-)
  • [feature] the IP report button feature now broadcasts a UDP datagram compatible with the original S9 factory firmware
  • [feature] the miner now stores the reason of the last cgminer exit/failure in /tmp/cgminer_quit_reason. The miner status page now presents the actual reason along with a confirmation button to clear the last failure status
  • [feature] fix web status data loading when connecting to miners in remote locations with considerable latencies
  • [feature] universal SD card images - each SD card image tries to detect device MAC address from any firmware image that is present in NAND flash. This simplifies using the same SD card image on multiple devices without the need for manually generating editing uEnv.txt on each card
  • [feature] it is now possible to install bOS into flash memory from a running SD card - see the docs for details
  • [feature] increase stratum connect() timeout to 3 seconds to prevent harassing stratum servers to early when probing all IP address for a given URL
  • [feature] attempt to perform opkg install firmware on bOS instance running from SD card now visibly tells the user that this is not a supported operation (= you should obtain a new SD card image and write it to your SD card)
  • [feature] TUN/TAP module is now part of the base system as we cannot use upstream modules due to custom kernel. These can be useful for OpenVPN
  • [bug] #xnsub support for NH stratum extension has been fixed
  • [bug] a few memory leaks in bmminer and cgminer API have been fixed

Antminer S9

  • [feature] there are 2 new options: --disable-sensors - the mining software acts as if there were no temperature sensors found. That is fan would be running at 100% unless set to some manually override value --disable-remote-sensors - mining software only takes temperature measurement from the hash boards and doesn't try to measure temperature on the mining chips. The actual mining chip temperature is being estimated as hash board temperature plus some empirically set offset (15 C)
  • [bug] fix support for non-asicboost pools by eliminating mining.configure in case the number of configured midstates is 1 (AsicBoost disabled)

Could someone please tell me - is it possible to use cgminer on braiins-os in --load-balance mode and mine for 3 pools at same time?

I haven't tried it but this option appears to be available. Why don't you just try it?

I would bet something like "load-balance":true in cgminer.conf would do.
3371  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: More Bitcoin commercials coming!!! on: June 06, 2019, 01:22:17 AM
Here is another Bitcoin commercial promoting BTC as a global and spendable currency. Share it with the haters that ask what can you buy with bitcoin.

LONG BITCOIN!

Well, its about time apps like these appear, but a decentralized p2p marketplace would be better in my opinion.

Today added support for bech32 SegWit addresses

Bech32 addresses start with “bc1” for bitcoin

I added your pool to the Bitcoin wiki of services adopting bech32 addresses.
3373  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Need Antminer s9 serial connect to eliminate NEW VIRUS!!! on: June 05, 2019, 01:40:10 PM
Indeed, not virus but the controller's nand flash storage can get damaged. This is why its useful to test with Braiins OS booting from the sd card with jp4 jumper moved.

Bitmain solution simply tries to (blindly) reflash back the firmware. If this nand storage is damaged no amount of reflashes would do anything.

Right now I am using the UI to do the change manually and yes I loose about 4 min a day but the gain outweighs the cost. Correct, the point of using the Scheduled Tasks is so that I don't have to do it myself every day. My problem is that I don't know the syntax that is needed to accomplish what I would like to do. I have the basic understanding with the previously quoted, but I don't have the specific.

Cron syntax is rather simple, you can learn it by using this web page: https://crontab.guru/
3375  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is all this "Satoshi" drama? on: June 05, 2019, 12:55:05 PM

"If he really is, he can go onto bitcointalk.org and make a post under Satoshi’s account saying who he is. Otherwise he’s a lier. Or what? Did he forget his password?! Lier lier. And a twat."

This, just this. Or public sign message from any of his wallets. All others are impostors, attention seekers, or simply trolls.

I must admit these "news" attract a lot of views, anyone reporting on these faketoshis are sure going to get some nice amount of clicks/views.
3376  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Crypto exchange Coinroom disappears with customers funds, Website Offline on: June 05, 2019, 12:47:27 PM
Polish crypto exchange Coinroom has disappeared along with customers' funds. Their website and all social channels are MIA as well. Ciphertrace reported that in Q1 of 2019, over 356 million dollars from cryto exchanges were stolen which were all visible losses. However in this case the total amount of funds remain unknown which ultimately means that there are even bigger losses at hand than just the 365 million which is insane.

I am really disappointed to have to keep hearing about these types of exit scams. What do we do?

Yet another exit scam... In my opinion these should be treated the same as "hackers" stealing coin, ie: share all their addresses and blacklist them immediately. All other exchanges and mixers should cooperate. Until the community organizes and gets ready, these things will keep occurring.
3377  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is 1 Bitcoin equal to half million USD? on: June 05, 2019, 02:45:48 AM
So I was thinking.
According to Google, the 2013 estimates of total m2 money supply in US was 10.5 trillion. So if I owned 1 usd today that would be a so a very small percentage of the total number, yes?
But I can own 1 bitcoin today and that means I can own 0.0000048% of total btc supply..

If you think about it, 0.0000048% of total US m2 money would be 504,000 usd.. half a million

So can we say that 1 Btc = $500,000?

It might, perhaps at some point when it matures completely, and fluctuations decrease. It could be according to that, 500k would be a ceiling, if the fiat itself wasn't inflated at 2% yearly.

So the answer would be... it might.

How did this virus infect your miners? Did you ever change the web and ssh passwords?

I don't think a virus can block jp4 jumper to boot from sdcard. Did you ever try booting Braiins OS? This should work without fail.

The dust you earn if you are below 10,000 satoshis (dust), will wait in your account until I complete the new accounting and new payout ...
any update on that? I believe your original goal was to have it done at the end of last year?
I work on it a few hours most days - not finished.
But when it's done, it'll be more trustworthy than my fiat currency, debt note bank.
Specially ours:

Currently 2 satoshis buy 1 bolivar, soon it will be 1:1
