33641  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: BTC Network about to hit 1 exahash for the first time over a 24 hour period!!! on: December 11, 2015, 04:39:36 PM
Mining has become a business with very large barrier of entry, this is really not good for decentralization. Chinese government only need to take down those large Chinese mining pools to heavily disrupt the bitcoin network

if china raided and destroyed all bitcoin mines it would be quite an interesting development.
33642  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Empty blocks on: December 11, 2015, 04:37:44 PM
We had the largest block count day in years on the 10th of dec

 215 blocks.

we had more then 20

 1 and 2 transaction blocks.

The  purpose of BTC is to move payments via transactions.

a 10+ percent of no transaction blocks is not good.

It clogs up the payment system.   If the 20 tiny transaction blocks all had 1000 transactions we would have moved  20,000 transactions.

We would not have this happening

blockchain info skipped auto payment of fees pulled excess coin out of account sent it back causing an un confirmed .0101 amount

from a fully confirmed original balance of .202

https://blockchain.info/tx/92a7cba0eac341534e79362b2d9c2dba42ee3479d69bd347c036f5c778186c6d

thus 1 minute later when blockchain info made this payment with a fee they did won't confirm this .151 transfer

so .202 fully confirmed btc is now locked up as unconfirmed due to 2 issues. first blockchain info client forget to pay a fee and needlessly casued an unconfirmed .0101

second dozens of empty blocks passed by these two transactions which if you do both of them you do get .0001 btc

So the entire point of mining which is moving coins via transactions is lost here.  Why some pools just want block rewards.

Well we will see how long the .202 stays tied up and pools continue to mine empty blocks to pass by the fees to get rewards.

More then 30 hours now.

Thanks! Should all the fields be populated or does it take some time to update from zero? Everything appears to be working in cgminer, so just making sure.

I am clocking you at 30g which is 2 - 3 sticks (depends on clock)  ramp up takes time .

No more for this adjustment.   if you have been on this  site for months , but not in this game that is okay!

(not sure if by "new" people you mean new to bitcointalk or new to these threads, so if it's "no new folks to this thread", then sorry for intruding - seems like a fun game, though, even if it's a bit depressing at this level)

Are there any slots open or could I jump into the waiting list?

Also, if my 3 new sticks come in will I need to change anything to start using them with the pool? New to the process so please excuse the ignorance. Thanks!

you are now of waiting list let us know when the stick come.

Thanks, I have one stick now up and running and just waiting on three more. If I could jump in sooner, let me know. Thanks!

33654  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: December 11, 2015, 05:07:41 AM
Good News - Just received my Avalon 6!!!
Bad News -  It's missing the LED Dongle that I see you guys showing so I can't connect it to the PI controller!  Just called the vendor to fix the issue ASAP.

<a href="http://s482.photobucket.com/user/nhando1977/media/20151210_190023_resized_zps2grlorgb.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i482.photobucket.com/albums/rr187/nhando1977/20151210_190023_resized_zps2grlorgb.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 20151210_190023_resized_zps2grlorgb.jpg"/></a>

Newbie question - Is this a proprietary dongle  / connector or is there some other places I can grab 1 quick to reduce my lack of patience waiting.

Next Question for preparation is :

1) Is there a specific order that I need to power up these things.  (i.e. Controller first and then the Avalon / Hashboards)
2) Does it really matter which of the 6 VGA / PCI-E port I connect from the back of the EVGA G2 1300W PSU?  I'm currently using the bottle 4 and single PCI, skipping the dual cables.
3) To connect to the Avalon 6, I only need to look up the DHCP address on my router and then point the browser to that IP address like the Antminer or is there a different procedure for these PI controllers?
4) What does the LED, Blue, Yellow, Red on the Dongle you show means.  Does it matter which port, top or bottle from the Daisy chain connector from the Avalon to the LED controller / PI?  What does the LED color below these Daisy chain cable represent?

thanks for your help.

hmmm, did we buy from the same vendor, I wonder. Mine was missing the data cable.

1) Is there a specific order that I need to power up these things.  (i.e. Controller first and then the Avalon / Hashboards)
----doesn't matter.
2) Does it really matter which of the 6 VGA / PCI-E port I connect from the back of the EVGA G2 1300W PSU?  I'm currently using the bottle 4 and single PCI, skipping the dual cables.
----not really, just use ports marked as  VGA
3) To connect to the Avalon 6, I only need to look up the DHCP address on my router and then point the browser to that IP address like the Antminer or is there a different procedure for these PI controllers?
----need to find RPi's IP address, I went to router setup page to find RPi's IP address
4) What does the LED, Blue, Yellow, Red on the Dongle you show means.  Does it matter which port, top or bottle from the Daisy chain connector from the Avalon to the LED controller / PI?  What does the LED color below these Daisy chain cable represent?
---anything but red is ok, port doesn't matter.

You might check on who you bought from see if same re-seller it's not vendor but possibly re-seller.  I have gotten from BlockC and Ehash and there were no issues at all.

Sorry, I meant same reseller. It appears that resellers are doing the packing before shipping out the miner, mine came in a homedepot box but the miner was in a nice small box inside. RPi was outside of the small box and it is where the reseller failed to ship all connectors.

Ironic that it's a benefit to use the Pi instead of a proprietary controller, yet the Avalon is dependent on some proprietary USB converter board that nobody can locate...
the 4.1  one works.

also i ordered all my 4.1 s one at a time and ended up with three of the converters.k

when my two 6s came i got 1 converter 1 rasp pi 1usb cable 1 4 pin cable.  so i was short a usb cable and a four pin cable i did have the left over 4.1 four pin cable and converter and my own spare usb cable so i had zero down time.

make sure to ask for the parts needed.

1) rasp pi
2) two usb cables
3) uart to usb dongle
4) uart cable or four pin cable
5) wall wart 5 volt
6) 1200 watt or more psu

7) two avalon 6 should get two dongles and two uart cables as you may want to run the avalon 6s in twp rooms

that would mean two rasp pi

Just something to think about for when the price really starts moving up. The hash rate is going to be unbelievable.

The halving ETA keeps moving closer and closer : 2016-07-21 12:10:50 UTC (31 weeks, 6 days, 12 hours, 40 minutes)

Network capacity is more as well as more space is available due to a larger number of blocks per fixed time period.

I see halving in early july.  I am not sure who's hash this is. if sp tech put the sp 50 batch out .  they may have been this bump

Ok, I don't like doing this but I have to agree with HerbPean. These are totally utterly worthless user accounts very likely farmed by the same person. It would be unfair to the other participants to leave them in so let's remove them.

I will tell them this if they are willing to give me their mailing addresses by 1200th block made also know as 816th blocks remaing.

in case those  one of those picks win. I will send the winner  a compac usb stick. And they are not eligible for the btc award. All three newbies must satisfy this or all three will be eliminated.

I won't accept po boxes business  address only address with a real name.  BTW when I send  prizes out here and I have sent them out on more then one thread I always want a real name for a real address.

So in theory I need 3 verifed different addresses to award the stick.  Seems fair  .  and we can leave those as unpick-able picks so if they all give me real addresses for the stick up front.  and one of them wins they get a free stick.

but the .316 btc rolls over and next round I give away a new free stick.

No regulars get hurt and if they were all legit and one wins this time  they get a stick. It just means I give sticks away two times.

From the next contest on account must be  at least 1 full month and  a junior member and pre-vet with me via pm

EVEN THOUGH I like pps I moved my miners off f2pool  As there were close to 30 empty blocks today.

The purpose is to move transactions and 30 empty blocks do not cut it.

One worker is not under my direct control and still mines on f2pool.

This is not what I wanted to do. I wanted f2pool to "do the right thing"

30 empty blocks today  if they had .3 in fees each it was 9 coins tossed  due to spv mining which is the pool operators coins since f2pool keeps fees.  I pointed to mmpool.org and will stay with them until they pop a block.
I will then come back to kano.is

to kano I will leave a link rather then the screen shot in an hour or so.
