3381  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: what's wrong with this transaction? on: May 06, 2017, 07:44:20 PM
It's because your inputs haven't aged. Your input was received at 2017-05-06 12:19:25 and your output was at 2017-05-06 12:20:05.

I know that in theory they have gotten rid of the age of inputs as part of the priority matrix, but in every single case I've seen where the transaction is unconfirmed, the age of the input is less than 24 hours.

I'm assuming that some miners are still using age of inputs to prioritize (not least because you need to have a certain number of confirmations in place to make sure the inputs are "safe"). In your example, you were sending within a minute, so there weren't even 6 confirmations on the input you received.

There is nothing you can do but wait. If it doesn't go through in a couple of days, then try again, but in future make sure your inputs age at least 24 hours before you attempt to send them.
3382  Economy / Speculation / Re: hmm, was it bit-finex or bit-stamp with the weird price! on: May 06, 2017, 03:04:04 PM
It is because it is hard to move fiat. For example, banks work only on weekdays, so if an arb opportunity occurs on the weekend, you can't take advantage of it. And wire transfers typically take 24 hours, so by the time your money has arrived, the opportunity has gone.

Whales mostly have balances on several major exchanges, which means that they don't have to transfer money to X exchange in order to buy coins there, and sell them on Y exchange. It takes far too much precious time away - and you know, time is money. In that regard, the lower average price on Bitstamp would have been bought up already. Whatever the reason is/was for their lower price, it has already slimmed down, and will likely continue to do so.

If they did have balances on all the exchanges, then there wouldn't be any price differences, because they'd have taken advantage of the arbitrage...

The fact that the price differences exist means that they DON'T have money on all the exchanges.
3383  Economy / Speculation / Re: FOMO IS REAL on: May 06, 2017, 11:42:49 AM
FOMO had stopped, for now. People were afraid that bitfinex users were going to buy all the bitcoins because they were so hungry for the bitcoins. Pun intended.

Now there will be a testing of the nerves with the double top that just had brewed. Thighten your seat belts boys. Holders gonna hodl, panicers going to panic and people buying low going to buy low.

We don't know when we'll next see a bear market, and by the time we do it'll probably happen when the price has reached much, much higher and this current price seems low.

I do not see the bear market in the near future but I hope to see some option of relativly cheap coins.

I am no selling shit.

HOLD!!

I wouldn't sell too. Real FOMO is still far away. Right now wemay see some correctiona and consolidation which isn't bad. At the weekends it's mostly pretty quiet.
Furthermore you can think about selling when you see the next spike in google trends. At least I use this as an indicator and always have an eye on.

That's an interesting graph. I don't think the general public is at all interested in bitcoin. But lots of Wall Street types trade it on the side using their own money. It's the only thing you can trade 24/7.
3384  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Has anyone NOT made profit in this astonishing bull run?? on: May 06, 2017, 09:56:34 AM
OP: Are you referring to "realized" or "unrealized" profit?
You'll have to define what both of those terms mean to you.

"unrealized profits" = paper profits. In other words you are up and in profit, but because you haven't sold, it's unrealized, and could vanish at any time if the price goes down.

Realized profits are profits where you have actually sold for an actual profit.
3385  Economy / Speculation / Re: hmm, was it bit-finex or bit-stamp with the weird price! on: May 06, 2017, 09:50:53 AM
Surely there must be some kind of explanation why arbitrage traders haven't cut that price difference to zero.  I know people call Bitstamp "Bearstamp" a lot because of the low price but this doesn't make any sense.  In the Forex market the difference would be gone in a millisecond.

It is because it is hard to move fiat. For example, banks work only on weekdays, so if an arb opportunity occurs on the weekend, you can't take advantage of it. And wire transfers typically take 24 hours, so by the time your money has arrived, the opportunity has gone.
3386  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BTC is DYING, LONG LIVE THE NEW KING LTC on: May 05, 2017, 05:19:58 PM
I believe Litecoin has a great potential specially with the fact that it has Segwit already (or almost).

But the thing is all these altcoins are only used in trading to/from bitcoins. They don't have much buying potential if compared to bitcoins. And that's almost the only difference (at least in case of the successful ones ).

Actually the current increasing in the price of BTC is really promising as well.

In the end no body knows what's gonna happen Cheesy

Litecoin can be traded against USD and EUR, on places like Kraken and Coinbase.
3387  Economy / Speculation / Re: WARNING INCOMING CORRECTION on: May 05, 2017, 05:01:43 PM
Somebody sold big amounts of Bitcoin here and there and the price fell quickly from 1618$ to 1472$. The numbers I have are from Kraken, but it's not the only place with this behavior.
I'm curious what is going to happen next.

Profit taking that is all. Nothing goes up in a straight line, and it makes sense to bank profits from time to time.
3388  Economy / Speculation / Re: This bubble will pop big on: May 04, 2017, 06:41:27 PM
Nice rise here and careful now the bubble will pop nice and quick as well.

Take profits while you can or HODL?

Take some profits. (Rule of thumb, extract an amount equal to what you bought with, and that way you are in the black).
3389  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Do you see alts have chances against Bitcoins? on: May 04, 2017, 02:12:36 PM
Alts like Ether that provide a true value to the market, have a chance at competing with BTC, but more importantly, the alt market as a whole is already thriving. BTC dominance is getting lower over time, the current rise has slightly stopped that, but over time it will likely continue. BTC will most likely remain the top crypto, but a lot is happening in the space.

This. The competitor to BTC is likely to be Ether.

Ether transactions in the last 24 hours were 104,591, an all time high:

https://bitinfocharts.com/comparison/ethereum-transactions.html

At some point they'll exceed bitcoin transactions, and then we shall get the mother of all battles to be the #1 coin.
3390  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitfinex Gap $70 Could Be News Coming? on: May 04, 2017, 01:38:41 PM
According to the following article:

http://www.livebitcoinnews.com/lack-communication-bitfinex-bitcoin-users-concerned/

Bitfinex have been silent for two weeks, and are trying to find another non-Taiwanese bank to take them on. I doubt they've managed it yet, it takes longer than two weeks for banking arrangements to be switched.
3391  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Besides Poloneix what other exchange allow us to lend BTC? on: May 04, 2017, 12:27:58 PM

I think he wants to lend/loan his own BTC, not to get a margin loan to trade BTC. In this case Polo and Bitfinex are the only ones. I dont think Kraken and the rest allow users to lend their own BTC.
I might be wrong since I m not a native English speaker.

Correct. Someone brought this up on reddit and the CEO of kraken replied here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/BitcoinMarkets/comments/4cmzit/is_kraken_lending_out_customer_funds/d1jpmyu/

Quote
We're using a combination of our own assets and private loans to fill our margin pool. The advantage is that we can always offer the same rate. The disadvantage is that at times of peak activity, it's possible for the pool to be exhausted. I like the peer lending approach, being able to offer clients an opportunity to earn interest, but we determined it to have regulatory complications we didn't want to deal with.

So you can't lend on kraken because they haven't got regulatory approval for it.
3392  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gavin Andresen: stay away from Blockstream, Greg and Samson are toxic trolls. on: May 04, 2017, 11:52:43 AM
Gavin had his chance to be a Lead Developer and then he could not handle it and left.

Gavin is the reason bitcoin went from about $5 in 2011 to $1000 in 2013. He held things together, his original faucet which gave away free whole bitcoins had a massive impact on spreading the word, he did marketing as well as developing. Bitcoin simply wouldn't be where it is without him. It's all gone a bit downhill since he left.
3393  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BTC is DYING, LONG LIVE THE NEW KING LTC on: May 04, 2017, 11:47:58 AM
LTC is just going to leave a lot of people holding the bag. Just like in 2013. Be warned.

Agree.

Transactions in the last 24 hours were just 14,493, not even reaching litecoin's all time high of 20k in 2013.

https://bitinfocharts.com/comparison/litecoin-transactions.html

Meanwhile the number of bitcoin transactions in the last 24 hours was 343,939 and Ether reached 102,744.

Litecoin has a long long way to go before people take it seriously - their community is going to actually start using it before it makes any further headway.
3394  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which Real User Case Alts do you HODL for Long? on: May 02, 2017, 03:15:30 PM
The answer if NONE. I learnt my lesson back in 2013 - alts either pump and crash for good, or they go up and down in massive occilations. My advice is that if you have bought an alt and it's in good profit, take those profits.

...and then beat yourself up when you realize you could have earned much more by holding than selling for a few slices of pizza.

It's not 2013 anymore, crypto as a whole is way more popular so there's room for alts. And you can't do everything with one coin anyway (e.g. BTC is not good for very small transactions).

You mean there are lots more speculative bubbles in crypto. None of the alts stay up for long, most cycle up and down as they pump and dump. And some just do a single pump and then a long dump. Don't hold alts for long - you'll just find yourself a bagholder.
3395  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: What happen to coins that are going to delisted from Poloniex? on: May 02, 2017, 01:23:57 PM
You need to withdraw those coins. They get delisted, and the wallets are maintained for a few weeks, and after that you lose the coins. So transfer them to an exchange where you can sell them.

3397  Economy / Speculation / Re: Prediction - $1500 in 30 days - What do you think? on: May 02, 2017, 01:00:43 PM
Yep, at this pace, looks like OP's prediction is on its way with $1500 well in sight. The question is, with the inevitable ETF re-rejection coming May 15th, will we see a similar drop in price given we already pretty much know what the decision will be and then the question will be how long it will take for the price to correct back up over $1500 when it re-continues with the upward trend.

It depends on what all time high bitcoin reaches. We've seen this movie so many times - pump in anticipation of any news (even etf news where we likely already know the outcome), and then the drop. How far it drops depends on how high it reaches and how many people take the opportunity to cash out.
3398  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why so much spread in price today! on: May 01, 2017, 09:46:32 AM
It's a bank holiday Monday in many parts of the world (because it's May 1st), and thus wire transfers won't be happening, and fiat isn't moving. Wait will Tuesday for normal service to resume.
3399  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What's wrong with all the green rise of altcoin today? on: April 29, 2017, 01:37:40 PM
We all knew that bitcoin broke the ATH of $1200 and its now $1300

Based on some philosophy people mentioned that when Btc raise, most of the alts drop

But look at the top 20 coins in cmc

Dash
Eth
Ripple
Monero
And even Doge
DOGE GROW 18%

Any particular reason?

It's new money. We saw the same thing in late 2013/early 2014. People got excited when bitcoin made new highs, but figured that they missed the boat, so they speculated on alts.
3400  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gemini tops volume stats on: April 29, 2017, 11:12:04 AM
This is actually good news. They are a regulated exchange - and the SEC won't approve the ETF until most of the trading is done on regulated exchanges (because the pricing of the ETF depends on it).
