3381  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Able to convert server psu for mining purposes? on: May 23, 2013, 05:12:54 PM
Most of the electronics is made in China, that's nothing new.

Most of PC PSUs manufactured are crap and dangerous to use with bitcoin mining rigs.

But the few decent PSU brands/models are also manufactured in China (and from what I've heard sometimes in the same factories).

These Dell PSUs are high-quality ones with 95%+ efficiency but there is not much demand for them (most people look out for and buy common PC PSUs) and if older servers are no longer used they may be sold in parts, hence why it's sold on ebay.
3382  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Exchange volume is more decentralized now then ever ... on: May 23, 2013, 05:00:08 PM
Our daily volume is very volatile so if we look instead at average daily volume over prior 30 days it would be between just under cavirtex.
Some time back you said you were just behind btc-e:
Thanks, however in full disclosure the past two week may be an aberration and too short to draw any conclusions.  On a longer timeline (say 30 day moving average) we are just behind btc-e.
So quite a fall in your business then?

He is offline so I'll respond Tongue

Volume on BTC-E has increased substantially in the past two months with increased international interest and (correct me if I'm wrong) I think most of FC4B's customer are based in US.
3383  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Exchange volume is more decentralized now then ever ... on: May 23, 2013, 04:01:28 PM
I see a lot of topics sprawling about decentralized exchanges and ideas how it could be done; as more are closed down and hacked, more people see the need for safety and independence from the regulatory measures government can use to kill businesses and enforce monopolies.

I believe that without successful lobbying or greater economical, legal and political influence it is the Bitcoin exchanges and users that will have to adjust if they will want to deal with Bitcoin+fiat combination.

So what is the solution? Apart from moving to a poor country where it would be possible to bribe oneself's way in (but still have restrictions when dealing with the rest of the world that has to comply with the regulations or face sever penalties).

What would have to be done is people would need to use Bitcoin not because they think it will make them rich due to its deflationary nature and not necessarily because it is a safer payment system because it does not require the user to trust extra intermediaries, but because it can be a safer way of storing wealth. Safe from the government who can at any time outlaw gold (look what's happening now in Illinois and what FDR came up with in 1933 to name just examples in US) and with steganography safe from rubber-hose cryptoanalysis.

If people have more trust in Bitcoin and Bitcoin becomes less volatile, more people should feel confident in having Bitcoins as a store of value and feel less and less need to resort to using fiat if this also means they can use Bitcoins to pay for most of their costs of living. That is the day when we will have less of a need to use and rely on exchanges. This will take time, if it ever even happens. Maybe we will see other alt-coins outpacing Bitcoin or being used for different types of transactions. Litecoins or some other scrypt-based with faster confirmation times could be used for low-valued transactions like groceries, whereas Bitcoins could be used for a smaller amount of high-valued transactions like real estate, cars, etc.

And just to iterate, right now we need charity contacts more than we need donations.

Let me know if this would be of your interest and I would contact the people behind it as I know them.
3385  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Where is this template located? on: May 23, 2013, 01:59:35 PM
Ctrl + U in most browsers.

A lot of bitcoin and bitcoin business-related websites are based on Twitter Boostrap.

3387  Economy / Goods / Re: (Selling) Samsung Galaxy S3 in white 16 GB on: May 23, 2013, 10:27:45 AM
Yes it was purchased in January 2013, I think you can check the warranty via Serial Number?

I don't know, can you? Smiley Would you mind letting us know what store was the phone purchased in? Thanks!

It was bought on ebay.

Can you check if there really is warranty? Do you have a proof of purchase and the original box with all the contents?

And you haven't really mentioned it anywhere in the post but does it work flawlessly?  Smiley

Thanks
3388  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What are the rules of signature? on: May 22, 2013, 09:52:56 PM
Is it ok to sell it?

Yes. I saw people paying up to $15 per month for a signature space of active users with a high post count.
3389  Economy / Goods / Re: (Selling) Samsung Galaxy S3 in white 16 GB on: May 22, 2013, 08:40:49 PM
I am interested but can you post in the Auctions section? Or on Bitmit.net? (there is in-built escrow and a possibility to verify your identity).

P.S. Which model is this exactly? i9300, i9305, other?
3390  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: F-yeah! (bitcoind port) on: May 22, 2013, 08:33:30 PM
From the screenshot I see the CPU load is no longer 99%?

I would be careful if it was to be close to 100% for extended periods of time because routers' CPUs often lack adequate cooling for the heat generated at such loads. Though you may check yours, maybe it has some sensors and maybe you could read them through I2C.
3391  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 71% of young men in America do not want to get married on: May 22, 2013, 08:02:27 PM
Bigger workforce = more competition = lower prices & more progress  Smiley

OTOH the women and feminism with their affirmative action and alleged laws of 'equality' is not a positive thing... why would a woman earn as much as a man if she can get pregnant and go on paid maternity leave which will be very expensive for the employer as he will have to pay for two workers with only one working. Of course the woman will earn less (like 50-80%) but that is still a lot of money and sometimes he will have to spend extra money on training of the new employee (at least that's how it is in a lot of European countries, not sure about the US). A friend of mine stopped hiring females after 3 different women who worked for him went on a maternity leave within a very short time of being admitted to their jobs.
3392  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC Entourage on: May 22, 2013, 04:41:26 PM
I've been smoking weed and doing RCs & mushrooms since I was 14 and I've got tons of crazy stories from all that shit. Some people might not call that fun, but it would sure as hell be interesting to watch. (I don't want to be in it though, I just want to film)
and the Silk Road is basically making that more common. And it's not always nerds seeking out the Silk Road and ending up using Bitcoins. And I know someone that told me about the Silk Road in like 2009, and he had crazy parties at his house all the time, and now he mines coins.

And I only used SR for like 2 weeks before dropping it and focusing on things like Devtome, because I don't trust the road, an I can get weed from a dispensary.

Plus, I bet there are plenty of alcoholics on here Smiley

Too much weed and shrooms.

Silk Road was launched at the beginning of 2011.

I have sent them 500 XRP 9 days ago and no XRP appeared on my account. I have submitted a ticket about it 5 days ago but have received no response so far. I was considering sending more so I'm glad I only sent those 500. I'll send Graet a PM about it now.

3398  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How to use 2-factor auth on mtgox, even without a smartphone on: May 20, 2013, 08:42:07 PM
In case anyone didn't know, the Google authenticator is not limited to Android, iOS and BlackBerry devices there are a few unofficial google authenticators that will work on Symbian devices (e.g. a lot of Nokia's older phones), I'm using this one: https://code.google.com/p/lwuitgauthj2me/ on my 5800XM.

What you can do is copy the "secret" that is shown (it's just a string), or print out the QR code, so you have a backup of it so that you can re-load the code to a new device if you happen to lose your existing device.    Since you can't re-display the secret you are already using, you'ld need to remove OTP then re-add it and save a copy of the new secret code.

Thanks for the tip Wink
I would just add: keep the key in a safe place e.g. on a separate memory stick.
