3381  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Casualty List on: May 13, 2015, 05:54:08 PM
Coinedup is missing from the list. It was the first exchange to list Dogecoin and had big volume for a while. It didn't get hacked but closed down due to low volume eventually. I remember it went offline for a few days without telling anyone why, and everyone thought they had been scammed. People probably stopped using it after that.
3382  Economy / Speculation / Re: Kwukduck's motivation on: May 13, 2015, 12:47:33 PM
Don't you guys know the bitcoin ponzi scheme is collapsing right now??
I sold my coins for 10 dollars before it was too late!

no but seriously... i think 50 is on the high end, im guessing next difficulty will only push it to about silver 35-40 USD

Look at Kwukduck's history, it seems he sold at $10 and has been a salty troll ever since!!!

HODL, do not become a Kwukduck!!!

Yes, but the price went down to $2 the following November. He had every opportunity to buy his coins back and keep a huge profit. If he didn't buy them back then he made a huge mistake. Ideally selling at $30 and buying back at $2 would have been a really good trade, but its easy to say that with the historical charts in front of me.
3383  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 141,547,750,000,000 Bitcoins on: May 13, 2015, 10:00:39 AM
At this moment there are 14,155,200 BTC currently mined out of the 21 million that will ever be mined. It was a big day when the currently mined total hit 14 million. There was a debate about how many of those had been lost due to people losing their private keys, but people could only speculate. The longer Bitcoins stay in the same address the more likely it is that the owner has lost his key.

Take a look to that site,I don't realy know if it has been succesful or not
http://www.atilus.com/bitcoin/
So, this is a university that accepting Bitcoin for the payment? And then we can get the scholarship?

A number of Universities are starting to use Bitcoin.

The University of Cumbria, and the University of Nicosia accept payments of tuition fees in Bitcoin. The Georgia Institute of Technology is the first university to integrate Bitcoin into its students' dining and shopping experience. Similarly Switzerland's University of Zurich was integrating a student-made Bitcoin payments solution into one of its cafeterias.
3385  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is the oldest/youngest BTCer you know? on: May 13, 2015, 09:47:04 AM
Particle coin recently had an attempted takeover by a dev called niitassin who claims to be 11 years old. No doubt he is interested in Bitcoin if he was trying to take over an alt. He could have been lying about his age, but the take over was a failure because the wallet would not sync, so maybe he really is only 11.

After reading your post it occurred to me that the fat blob con artist who ran Mintpal could conceivably have been behind many of the scam coins it listed. I assumed he only got away with the Bitcoins he stole from peoples accounts, but he could have ripped people off for far more if he was a "dev" behind multiple coins. We always had to trust Mintpal's voting system fairly decided which coin to list next, but it might have been fixed

Wasn't he a relatively recent arrival though? I remember Mintpal being a fine exchange once upon a time. If I remember rightly Mintpal con boy's notoriety started with Doge. The creator of that may have turned out to be a shrill knob, but he wasn't a con artist or that guy.

This thread dated July 28 says Mintpal had been sold to Moolah. The Moolah owner seems to have disappeared in October, which gave him two months to do anything he liked. I remember the switch to the new v2 website took a long time and was a total disaster, but he must have had a window of time in which he could have listed some of his own scam coins.

If anyone else is bored sick of this chart doing its best impression of hardwood lumber...

I found this the other night, great read. Also serves as a nice inoculation against flirting around with the altcoin markets.

Good read, but the original thread is here

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=896480.0

I've been through the majority of those scams, trying to convince the newbies not to invest, but they never listened Smiley Thousands upon thousands of bitcoins were redirected from the pockets of the greedy dumb newbies into the hands of the whales that were manipulating the entire scene. The business was booming in 2014, not so much now, though. The death of Mintpal also had a huge effect on the scamcoin market.

Whats new fellas?
We're waiting for you to make your move. Get some action going.

No moves on my part right now.  Holding what I have for the time being (no long or short) concentrating more on forex atm.

This has been the lowest volume trading we have had since Christmas. Everyone seems to be waiting and watching to find out which way it will go. Can it carry on like this for weeks or possibly months? Can the volume get even lower than this?
3389  Economy / Speculation / Re: What price of BTC will be? on: May 12, 2015, 07:58:09 PM
I saw if we got rid of every alt coin including lite coin, and doge coin, we`d have a increased value in bitcoin.

forcing people to buy it more, I feel like all the alt coin scene has been clogging up newbies from buying bitcoin more then they should.

That would be very hard to implement and who is anyone to stop them? People should have the right to make crypto whatever they want it to be even if they're going to lose vast amounts. If they do then I'm sorry for them but the resources are out there to inform themselves.

Alts have not impressed me at all but they will always be with us in some form.

99.9% of alt technology doesn't impress me, but a tiny fraction of new technology being developed sometimes impresses me. There are huge arguments over making the slightest change to Bitcoin, and the proposed changes can be tested in alts. Using bigger blocks is the latest Bitcoin proposal and its easy to test it in an alt to find out how well it works.
3390  Economy / Speculation / Re: is bitcoin getting rebranded as the blockchain? on: May 12, 2015, 07:48:34 PM
What those retards don't get is the fact a blockchain needs a cryptocurrency to serve as an incentive to keep the blockchain going, unless you want a filthy centralized blockchain with fiat, in other words a complete Frankenstein abortion of the real thing, which no one with half a brain should condone.

Most companies are full of people who are only interested in the latest buzz word and don't understand Bitcoin. I feel their use of "block chain technology" is an attempt to sell their product using advertising hype coupled with the latest buzz word. We will soon be overwhelmed with a multitude of useless apps using "block chain technology" just like we have been overwhelmed with a multitude of useless alt coins.
3391  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Where do you sell coins ? on: May 12, 2015, 01:13:07 PM
If you are dealing exclusively in Euros..

soo, they are not converting SEPA to dollar once they receive payment and all is processed in Euro? sounds cool to me..Smiley

SEPA transfers are only available in Europe at present. If you live anywhere else in the world you have to use the old fashioned wire transfer method which has high transfer fees. The Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) is a payment-integration initiative of the European Union for simplification of bank transfers denominated in euro.
3392  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Where do you sell coins ? on: May 12, 2015, 10:50:33 AM
on kraken nothing else i don't like all the others exchange especially bitstamp..., but i don't to do it, i'm forced right now, because i need the money, i'm trying to limit it as much as possible

but i like to try bitfinex one day

The Kraken is good if you are in the EU because it does SEPA withdrawals which are cheaper than normal wire transfers. If you are dealing exclusively in Euros there is only a tiny withdrawal fee of about 9 cents compared to $20 to $30 withdrawal fee for a wire transfer.

Shaking out weak hands ....

Been a while since I saw this old chessnut, reminds me how much I miss Shroomskit who'd probably say something along the lines of: "yeah right, we've been shaking out the weak hands for 14 months now".

But with a lot more venom.

Oh, is Shroomy really gone for good? I just realized that I kind of miss him. He was a rare example of the bull-turning-bear-turning-bull-turning-bear-turning-2-btc-into-1-btc-turning-bear-turning-bull breed.

Did he get banned or decide to stop posting? He was here for ages so there must be some reason he stopped posting. This thread seems much quieter than it used to without him.

Am I the only one sceptic here about the pump that accompanied (?) the ITBIT / GBTC news? I expected a lot more buying regarding this.  Undecided

Trading has been very low volume for most of this week. Nevertheless, I also expected a bigger pump accompanying ITBIT / GBTC news. Bitcoin sometimes does that though, and nothing much happens for weeks.
3395  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 07, 2015, 08:59:52 PM
If Itbit got approval... What is stopping GEMINI to go live? Maybe another surprise from twins in next days  Cool

ItBit applied for, and got trust fund company status. GEMINI did not and will probably need at least a BitLicense before it starts up, but BitLicenses are not available yet. The Winklevoss Bitcoin Trust (an ETF focused on bitcoin investment) will probably take even longer because it needs SEC approval, which may or may not be granted.
3396  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What does the Ripple news mean for Premined, IPO, ICO coins? Did they follow KYC on: May 07, 2015, 07:17:17 PM
I'm not seeing it as a big problem for cryptocurrencies in general, but I think that exchanges might have some issues in near future.

Will that mean going back to trading thru the forum and doing escrows?  Noooo..  Sad(

That would give a good boost to getting decentralized exchanges working, adopted, and user friendly.

That would give "nice" decline in price of Bitcoin and all alts in that matter.

Alot of the exchanges are existing in the boundaries of the grey area. Already implementing kyc/aml precautions.

I think Cryptsy was the first to pay for an MSB license that costs millions of dollars. I don't think any of the other US based alt exchanges have a license yet, although they might not need one if they do not have cash withdrawals.

However, any that have been hosting IPOs could be prosecuted for selling unregistered securities.
3397  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: FinCEN Conducting 'Examinations' of Digital Currency Businesses on: May 07, 2015, 09:56:31 AM
That doesn't sound very good for Cryptsy. They seem to have met Federal requirements, but by their own admission, they don't meet most state requirements.

Bittrex might be safe since they don't deal in fiat. I don't know though.

Bittrex hosted IPOs, and I think they already prosecuted someone running one for selling unlicensed securities. Perhaps Bittrex it at risk of prosecution.
3398  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The Square Issue has launched on: May 07, 2015, 09:53:51 AM
Does it have a multi-million dollar money transmitter business FinCEN license because it risks US prosecution otherwise?
3399  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ripple Labs 700K fine. Haha. But How Would Others Do in the Same Situation? on: May 07, 2015, 09:50:00 AM
It was wise for some devs to remain anonymous.  They knew this would come sooner or later in their own project/startup/2.0 platform.  The easier for them to drop the whole thing and get away.

The case with Ripple could just be the start of "The Great Inquisition" in crypto...
I think it is nothing to do with the devs team. Any company, who intent to trade any cryptocurrenies,  should register as a money services business (MSB) and implement appropriate anti-money laundering (AML) procedures.

I expected all the US exchanges that hosted IPOs to get busted months ago, and nothings happened yet. Bittrex and Poloniex have both hosted IPOs so they could be busted, just a lot later than everyone expected.
3400  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bigger blocks coming in release 0.11 on: May 06, 2015, 10:33:42 AM
Some day in the future, you will need a data center to hold the whole blockchain, but that's still manageable, since by then each bitcoiner will own a data center  Grin

Yup, and this is what a 250 megabyte hard drive looked like in 1979.

30 years later you can fit 250x250 megabytes on something the size of your finger nail.  When the blockchain needs a data center to hold it, a data center will fit on your desktop.

we are near that limit with silicon, we can't go much farther with shrinking, 10nm is the physical limit of the material, they need something else soon enough

They have been developing something called racetrack memory for years. However, it sounds like fusion, it's always another ten more years until they say they will get it working.
