Go look at what has worked in movies, what characters have been gay.  There have been a few.  It's always been a minor theme of no importance, sometimes of comedy.  Here's one that worked rather well - in the Jersey Boys, director Clint Eastwood, the character of the music producer was a flaming gay.  Worked well, looked real, provided contrast to everyone else who was straight.

But for the most part, injecting gay into a character is simply a negative.  

What a character should be is someone you empathize with, someone you care whether they survive, die tragically, or whatever.   If not the plot fails and the ratings and income fail.

Two more recent movies with gay was DiCaprio in J. Edgar, and I think this movie was PC propaganda mostly.  But it failed to make me care at all about the main character.  Let him get shot, blackmailed, killed, I couldn't care less.

The other was the production of The Imitation Game, about Turing.  I've got mixed feelings about this one.  First, I believe almost anyone would empathize with the character of Turing.  A large part of the credit for the West winning WWII goes to him.  However, he was an open, unabashed gay, and the movie portrays him as a closet gay.  So it makes no sense in numerous ways.  Several aspects of his life are mis represented.  Also, the movie does not go into the likelihood that he was murdered, and presumes that he committed suicide.  All in all though, I think anyone would like the movie.  It's main focus is not Turing's personal lifestyle, though, and that may be the main reason.

Its good that big name people and celebrities are able to stand up for gay rights. I think its about time that people embrace the change

You obviously don't have children.  Everyone can say that they hate an action but not the person.  My kids do things all the time that I absolutely hate, but I love my children.  People are not perfect and everyone does stupid things.  For example, there were several of us playing soccer one night (all grown men) and 2 of my brothers got into a fist fight that I had to break up.  I hate the fact that they fought like children, but I don't hate them, I still love them.  Just because we disapprove of an action does not mean we hate someone.  This is how the the gay marriage thing gained traction, if anyone disagrees with you then you are a hater.  You know what the next is going to be?  Pedophilia is going the same was as gay acceptance, they are going to make you feel bad for despising what they do and gain acceptance because its "natural".  You will see.

I think you misinterpret it, manny tweeted that verse to inform everyone that bad things will happen to them if they will continue to do same-sex marriage and disobey the commandments of God, but may I ask you if manny posted he will kill gays and lesbians?  And again manny doesn't hate gays and lesbians , he loves them for God is the God love. I never thought there was a hint of the Luke being gay.  Doesn't matter what he is in real life.  That he never got the girl may be important, because then the next movie has to show him as slaved to a marriage and kids.  What if Superman had gone that route?  See the problem?

But I'm not a big star wars fan, either.  

Let me give another example.  Batman and Robin.  That's the perfect plot (some might think) to twist into Robin being gay.  Only problem, that isn't what the story ever was.  Make robin gay, you ruin the entire thing.  No way around it.  Never going to change.  

Almost anytime those cretins try to sneak a PC issue into a plot, they ruin the plot.  Even slowing the plot down by interjecting PC scenes can ruin the plot.

It is full of gays.  The problem is that when an actor/actress is good, nobody cares what they do off set.

The discussion is what they do on set.  What stories they present and how.  And whether those stories are interesting to you, me, others.

An example of a sci fi movie that totally botched the story with a gay subplot is Heinlien's Star Troopers.  Great book, movie?  The little gay romance story just about would make you puke. 

So yeah.  They certainly could completely ruin the whole Star Wars business by bringing this kind of stuff in.

Offhand the only similar thing that worked (I don't watch tv for a long time, but stay up on movies) was Zena, Warrior Princess, where there was sort of an unspoken lesbian thing.

Gay marriage isn't the cause of destabilised family life. That was destabilized long time ago. I'd say this is an at least hundred years old story, what accelerating since the 70's, partly because of re-evaluation of traditional gender roles, partly because of the ever decreasing purchasing power of salaries, and also because of marxist indoctrination in most of the schools.
