I don’t if this is a stupid question or not. But why’s the difference between the older S9 and the S9i they just released? Heard it’s possible as bitmain is moving out of China that they are selling their S9 as new and hence the s9i, any truth to this ?

versions with i are selling without any coupons

Not true, I just did a test and I could use any of the coupons in my list towards these i models...

You beat me to it.  I just tried the same and had no problems applying any of my (expire in June) Coupons to their purchase.

Thanks for the comparison.  Feels like marketing to me, since 20 watts is well within their +/- specs.

Goodmorning from Greece, noob alert here, can you tell me if I need to make backups of the wallet.dat file from bitcoin core more than once, I have stored it in multiple usbs, do I need to take backups regurarly after some transactions or just once is enough?

Back it up every time after you create a new receiver address.  It those private keys you want to hold onto.  That said, I think most wallets create those in batches, like 100 at a time.

Just noticed that Canaan slashed the prices of Q60 841s to $1120.

Nice to see them competing with the "new" Bitmain S9+.

I vote for a pool re-start.

And what pray tell would you expect that to accomplish?  Besides causing all of us to fail over to our backup pools that is?

No, all I get is the "The parcel was handed over to the consignee." message.
347  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Cryptouniverse - Official Canaan Distributor on: May 07, 2018, 08:15:56 PM
As far as I know,
GLS hands it over to Fedex,
and then Fedex delivers it to you in the US.

Thanks.  Does that imply I should be receiving some fedex tracking numbers soon?  Hope so.  Need to go back to St. Louis for a few days soon, would hate to miss the delivery!
348  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Cryptouniverse - Official Canaan Distributor on: May 07, 2018, 07:59:56 PM
How does GLS shipping work to the USA?

My 841s shipped on the 3rd, sat in "warehouse" status until today, and are now marked "delivered" in the GLS system.

Specifically "The parcel was handed over to the consignee.", but no delivery trucks were here today.  Do they pass it off to someone else to delivery within the USA?  Should I be expecting some tracking information from someone else?

I'm guessing the landlord will not appreciate the garage door being permanently modified.

That would leave you two options:

1) Uninstall it, and build a wall there.

2) Open it and leave it open, then build an interior wall around it.

In either case, you could then build your hot aisle box and install your exhaust fan in the new wall.

If space permits, I'd suggest leaving room at one end of that 14' opening for an intake fan, and place the exhaust fan at the other end.  You want them as far apart as possible to avoid mixing the air.  Think about your prevailing wind direction when selecting which end of the opening they go.  You want the intake fan up-wind.

You could then place your miners around the interior perimeter of the hot aisle box.

Anywho, changed the miners there from 2x 741's to 2x 821's using command line voltage of -1. Was ~15TH from her feeding the farm now 20ish and I believe a bit lower power draw ta boot. The 741's will join their brethren in main farm at work replacing a flaky batch-1 T9 + a bit more there..

I own two T9+s, and glad it is only two.  Bought them back when you couldn't get S9s and wish I hadn't.  Both have been in for repairs within weeks of powering them up.
351  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Canaan vs. Bitmain PSUs test on: May 06, 2018, 10:37:15 PM
I've actually read through those earlier.  Its why I wanted to test using the same miner, at the same temperature.  I didn't catch that PSU brands were tested.
352  Bitcoin / Hardware / Canaan vs. Bitmain PSUs test on: May 06, 2018, 09:47:09 PM
Hi all.  My data center is getting warm (air temp at the entrance to the miners is around 85F) and I was curious if one brand of miner PSU vs. the other was dealing with it any better.

Awhile back I ordered a https://www.amazon.com/DROK-Digital-Multimeter-Voltmeter-Ammeter/dp/B01MRZAFAF/ref=pd_sbs_469_1 thinking I could use it on one of my power panels, but it was way too light duty.  Instead I spiced it into a spare power cord and put the whole thing in a plastic wall box.  A few wire nuts and a bit of electrical tape later I had a fully functional "watt meter" for my power connections.

Originally I planned on using existing power supplies, one APW3++ and one Sorcerer.  For each test I allowed an Avalon 841 miner to fully spin up, measured by watching the power usage slowly climb until it was bouncing +/- a few watts.

Test 1:  APW3++ 1439.4 Watts, 6.29 Amps at 232.1 volts.
Test 2:  Sorcerer  1451.3 Watts, 6.33 Amps at 232.6 volts.

Then decided to unbox a new APW3++ and test it on the Test 2 miner, since the results were close, and we know individual miners vary a bit:

Test 3:  APW3++  1448.4 Watts, 6.32 Amps at 232.4 volts.

Good news... its appears the power supplies are, for all intents and purposes, equally efficient.

The APW3++ has a higher rated temperature range, but past experience (especially at the low end), educated me to ignore those ratings by a wide margin.

I know this isn't exciting news, but figured others might be curious as well.

Open it up and see if you have dust, dead moths, or lose heat sinks?

every sunday evening i transfer my credits to my ledger.

one !!!! block in a Week!!!! time...

This is soooo depressing... Sad

10x S9, profit in a week:0.011002BTC...  Huh

Yes, but that triple block day we recently experienced had to look sweet!  Remember it all evens out over time.
355  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Installation of 70 S9 on: May 06, 2018, 06:05:31 PM
Is it possible for you to use vertically mounted fans on an outside wall?  The exhaust fan would only need to be a few feet above your top miner.  You could then build a "hot aisle".  Perhaps a standard stick wall (2x4) with 5/8" fire rated drywall.  You could put your shelves in against that wall and cut out the drywall for the miners to stick through.  A stock carpentry wall and wall work should be cheaper than roof work, and would not require any additional ducting since the wall (and a short, say, 4' wide ceiling) would be the duct.

You would still need intake air.  That doesn't have to be powered if the whole is big enough, but would if your much below that 70 square feet I previously mentioned.  But that could be in any wall space not contained by the hot aisle box.

The advantage, besides cost, is that rain will be less likely to come in a louvered wall fan.  You will want to intake fan to be at least a few feet away from any miners just in case some rain does come in (and some will unless your using a pretty fine filter that may block up when it gets wet and starve your machines of air).
356  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S9 good hasboards but not hashing! on: May 06, 2018, 03:22:39 PM
Not the network.  I see this occasionally in my S9 farm as well.

You can try different firmware.  If you brave and stupid (like me), you can try the fixed frequency firmware as a last resort.  So far, I have not bricked anything doing that, and once in awhile it helps, but your mileage may vary.

Basically you have a card that is failing.  The trick is to see if you can find some firmware that bypasses whatever is going wrong.

Good luck, and welcome to the world of shitty, but cheap, S9s.  I have personally sworn off of them, after buying about 150, and only buy Avalons now when I can catch a good sale.
357  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Missing board from Miner Status - AntMiner S9 on: May 06, 2018, 03:11:33 PM
Board failure.  If you bought directly from Bitmain and are within your warranty period, send it in for repair or live at 2/3rds speed.   I have something on the order of 150 S9s and have 7 with single board failures.  For me, it was not worth the downtime to send them in for repair.
358  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Installation of 70 S9 on: May 06, 2018, 03:04:53 PM
You think it is normal to pay so much for ventilation to install 70 S9?

Well, your 20,000 CFM number is in the right ballpark.  Not sure why you were caught unaware of the cooling needs - there are many MANY threads on that topic.

Regarding cost, no, $17,000 seems excessive - unless the warehouse owner is just ripping you off for the right to modify their warehouse.  Or your doing this on the East Coast of USA or California or maybe Chicago.

Remember that what goes out must come in.  For S9s, I recommend about 1 square foot of screened opening per miner, so the equivalent of a 7 foot by 10 foot screened in area.

Absolutely layout your miners in a hot aisle/cold aisle arrangement - you do NOT want any exhaust air from the back of the miners mixing with their intake air.

I do hope your in an area with cool outside air.

For some reason my pool 0 set on stratum+tcp://nya.kano.is:3333 fails and my miner goes to pool 1 stratum+tcp://stratum.kano.is:3333.

I tried rebooting and it doesn't help. Is there anything else I can try?

Probably totally unrelated, but I've been having weird Internet problems for the past couple of days.  Things like what the OP said above.  I'm having sites come and go from reachability.  Like right now I can get to www.speedtest.net, but not the test itself.  I can get to USPS.com, but not the PO Box management or login page.  Slushpools zcash pool has been more offline than online to me, from here at the Farm, but apparently is fine from my little PC in St. Louis throwing crumbs at it.

Last night my wife could receive messages on Telegram but not send them.  Our house has its own static IP, my office has another with the same carrier and Telegram worked fine for me.  This morning she was fine.

Its weird and more than a bit frustrating.

Just thought I'd mention it in case it IS somehow related (like a mid-west USA network wide routing issue).  Note that DNS lookups are working fine.

Guys has anyone used  https://www.eastshore.xyz to buy a miner? Is it safe?

Really?  An L3+ for $2199 that Bitmain sells for ~$750?

As Bitmain has REPEATEDLY stated:  They do not have authorized resellers.  If you buy from anyone but them you will not get warranty support.
