341  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: fastrie xptMiner b14 update on: March 29, 2014, 07:44:02 PM
Hi, all - I've posted b14 source and binaries for the fastrie xptMiner:

- Binaries:      http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dga/crypto/ric/
- Source:        https://github.com/dave-andersen/fastrie
- ChangeLog:  https://github.com/dave-andersen/fastrie/blob/master/ChangeLog
- README:      http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dga/crypto/ric/readme.html

This is a speed-boost release targeting larger sieves, and the binaries are now
linked against gmp 6.0.0a, which provides faster code targeting avx and avx2
in particular.  Sandy Bridge, Ivy Bridge, and Haswell machines should see a very
reasonable 5-15% speedup.

The larger sieve support comes from borrowing a trick from a00k's miner,
which reduces memory consumption with sieves > 500m and slightly improves
speed.

Older, slower machines will probably not get much of a boost from this release,
but newer, faster boxes may benefit from a larger sieve - I'm seeing 10-20% speedups
on i7-4770 (Haswell) CPUs.

Thanks to the folks on ypool for kicking the tires on this.  As always, there
are likely to be bugs, but hopefully not too many. Smiley  Please do read the
README before worrying about some of them, and before tweaking
the sieve size too much.

Thanks dga, I am glad we have a great Riecoin supporter like you.

Sorry, dev but you are destroying this coin with your incompetence. How much time per day do you devote to this coin? 30 minutes? How can't you possibly be able to compile a Windows wallet? Everyone can use Windows on a Virtual Machine and compile shit down. We can do it but the wallet has to come from you because people want the wallet to be from an official source. Pools are on the wrong fork, website is down, no Marketing and no signal from the developer because he is probably trying to find out how to compile a Windows wallet. Well it's not that easy like on Linux. Waiting for a miracle? Coin had so much potential and you wasted it, I started out with this coin from the beginning but lately my optimism faded away and I realize we're just putting lipstick on the pig.

Windows compiling is pretty difficult and annoying to do so I understand the dev's resistance to compiling Windows...but I can see where you are coming from.

New status update: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=541647.msg5943221#msg5943221

This week, time flyed by. But it's Thursday again (at least in some time zone it still should be) and we have some news for Riecoin:

- Our website riecoin.org was updated a couple of times
- A Mac OSX xpt miner was released https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=446703.msg5931299#msg5931299
- Riecoin Foundation is growing. Site will be up soon.
- Difficulty peaked at 1712. Remember that 1857 is required in order to break the world record. As it was mentioned on the ANN thread, there are reasons to believe that Riecoin's network computing power is enough to easily break the record, but the limits imposed in order to make RIC practical as a currency as well are holding us back. This however doesn't make Riecoin less useful: we have created a repository of more than 27000 prime sextuples.
- Stratum pools are still low on hashrate (or "scanrate" as I like to put it) because the most optimized miners use the XPT protocol. Ypool works fine but it's not the only pool: upcpu has already found many blocks.

My current priorities:
- Optimized miners for stratum protocol - work still in progress
- XPT / Stratum proxy in order to use xpt miners with stratum pools - work still in progress
- then comes the updated "Riecoin Core" 0.9.0

New ideas to explore:
- Chebyshev's bias: is it large enough to use it for miner optimization? at first sight, it doesn't look that way, but it's effect may be amplified by the fact that we use prime 6tuples, not just primes... needs more research. Optimized miners use a hardcoded value for the remainder (or "offset") of their primorial, but is it the best value?
- If we'll be hardforking to include constant difficulty adjustments, maybe we could use the opportunity to include searching for 7 or 8tuples along with 6 tuples.

Best regards to all!
gatra

Excellent! Any estimated dates on when Optimized miners will be released?

I am an admin for
http://www.reddit.com/r/animewallpaper

would any type of specific post help?  I got 10k followers..not much per say but maybe with right marketing wallpaper post and causing some sort of "thinking" within them maybe they can burst and spread out the name doing me a favor since iv been a good admin for them.

Leme know =]

(yes i know its sorta wrong target audience..but..i mean..something would help word of mouth to spread around, maybe only 100 them spread it around reddit in their own threads and sub threads and such *shrug* idk idk ha)

Well if you can, just get as many people to know about Riecoin as possible. Introduce them to Riecoin. If they want to learn information, go to Riecoin.org.

Not another Hype-Coin. Besides a tweak to the algorithm there is (yet again) nothing of real value with this new coin. Wow you can find prime numbers. PrimeCoin does that. Problem is everyone is scratching and scraping to get on the next "Bitcoin" so any new coin that gets released everyone and their grandmother jumps on it.

So then why did you bother coming on here to post and bad mouth it? If you don't care about it then don't bother. It is different than Primecoin and things are getting ramped up. It has significant scientific and mathematic benefits to the community but you are more than welcome to sit back and watch how it progresses. What makes you sad about Riecoin specifically? I'd like to be able to address your concerns.

I am assuming he is what people call a "troll".

B.S Finance, M.S Computer Science (new), & M.S Chemical Biology pick one lmao

Impressive. I'd rather see skill-sets than degrees though. Nevertheless, if you'd like, the Riecoin Foundation welcomes you with open arms.

What kind of skills do you have? At Riecoin Foundation, we are always looking for new talents.

I wanted to whole hardheartedly support this coin, but a lack of posts from the dev, the utterly crazy diff, and the lack of pool software has killed this coin before it got started.

GL with it, but I doubt it will go anywhere now

Yeah, I'm about to give up too. It's just MaxCoin v2.o -- Why release something when you've yet to have it all prepared. People much rather wait an additional week to have the coin prepared, fair, and the devs not as busy.

we call this pre-mine  Grin

You guys got to realize that the dev. has a life too. It's not like he is getting paid for developing this. Nor does he have a professional team hired like Maxcoin..you should just appreciate the fact that this coin isn't another shitcoin cloned and changed the name. The dev. does post things..I really don't understand where you get the lack of posts from. He has a life and work. If you'd like to pay 100k a year for him to quit him job and work on this full time, I'm sure he'll have time and devote himself to this. If not, then please don't criticize him from lack of posts because that isn't true. He replies on here when it comes to difficult technical question but leaves it to the community members when questions are general. Plus, (sorry if you didn't know), he said he would update once a week on every Thursdays. Crazy difficulty is normal. It's better with a crazy difficulty coin like Riecoin. Makes it last longer. You don't want a coin like Quark where you can mine almost everything in half a year.. You want a sustainable coin like Datacoin (takes hundreds of year to mine everything), Riecoin (decades), and other various coins that takes a long time so that when the public is notified of cryptocurrency and is accepted by the masses, it will have enough supply.

This coin is an experiment. To have something "perfect" and prepared is asking too much and having too much expectation. Bitcoin wasn't fair, why aren't you complaining about that. Dozens of coin weren't "prepared", but they still made it to the top. Delaying a coin for a week doesn't really help make the coin more "fair" because the problem isn't as simple as you think and could be fixed in a week.

Overall, give the developer time. It hasn't even been 2-3 days since he posted about the updates. Being a developer is tiring and demanding work. If you aren't a full time dev., you can't really understand how overloaded he is right now.

Life is not fair. Deal with it. What's fair to one cannot be fair to another group. This coin is far from pre-mined because the first day output 0 coins.
357  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][RIC] Riecoin, new prime numbers POW coin, CLIENT UPDATE v0.8.7 AVAILABLE on: March 26, 2014, 02:14:51 AM
I wonder how much it takes to maintain Riecoin price. I know dogecoin needs $2+ million to maintain its price.

2.5 minute blocks with a reward of 50 RIC means approximately 28800 new RIC a day. At the current price of ~$0.12 this means about $3456 is needed a day to sustain prices. However I don't think the handful of top whales mining the majority of coins are selling at the current price.

Oh so doesn't take that much right now. Thats good.

I don't have access to a windows machine with administrator.
Are you trolling?

No, all of my computers are running OS X or Linux.

At work there is one Windows machine but I do not have admin rights to install Qt and MinGW.
So use a Virtual Machine?

Live CD is also an option.
