Have they given a timeframe as to when they'll convert Maid tokens over to Safe tokens? Final release, or before?

No, they haven't. But what they did tell is that Safecoin isn't the biggest problem to solve. The underlying security needs to work. SAFE uses addresses and routing, think of it
as a virtual-IP system with storage. So you'll have an address which is protected by cryptography. Same for Safecoin, you own a key and can own Safecoin. But to use these coins routing
needs to be safe and secure and tested to the max. That's what they're doing right now. At least one of the new hired devs will also work on routing. And right now they're implementing "Disjoint Groups".

Quote
The current group messages do not provide a high level of protection against attacks on the network, even under the additional assumptions that routes are disjoint and that a quorum of the individual messages need to be intercepted. Assume that an attacker controls 10% of all nodes in the network, and group size is 8 and quorum size is 5. Consider a group message sent via 10 hops.

In that scenario, the chance to intercept any given group request is 71%. With the group-to-group hops proposed here, it will be just 0.43%. Further adjusting the group size and quorum size parameters, this can be reduced to a negligible number, making this kind of attack virtually impossible.

They're working on this thing right now, which makes the routing layer for SAFE way more easy and much more secure. So it doesn't make sense to implement test-Safecoin at the moment, because it needs to be
tested over the new routing and Disjoint Groups.

Next to that they're working on Datachains. The idea is to make a hash of every datachunk in the network and make a group (that's a Disjoint Group) responsible for it in a whole chain of hashes with archive nodes. It will make sure that data won't ever get lost. Even when the whole network crashes (like the bizarre case where the EU and US have a total blackout) things should come back online as it was before. Including all the personal data, Safecoin and what more.

So both these modules are worked on right now. If you check the GitHub repo's of the Maidsafe devs you see several of them working on this in their own repo's. I'm not a coder myself but my guess is that in the coming 3 to 6 weeks we should see both modules being pulled to the Maidsafe repo on GitHub. Then they test on little test networks and what more. So great times coming. And when this is done, test-Safecoin could be implemented in just a few weeks according to David. As the security layers are fixed in the current layers. My personal guess for test-Safecoin would be November. But that's just one big guess. Maidsafe (the company) won't give a date or even a month like I just did.

These are very nice reads for people that want to go more in depth.

They’re planning to do an equity raise next month, via the bnktothefuture investor platform, with the aim of raising £2 million, including for ramping up hiring on the engineering and community outreach front. (A previous £6.7M crowdfunding raise did not end up bringing in anywhere near that amount as many donations were in Bitcoin and the value of the cryptocurrency subsequently slumped.)

As far as I remember SafeCoins are being farmed  from participant using there computer as a resource. Now my question is has farming started ?

Nope, the Farming starts after Safecoin is implemented. But they are working on routing and data integrity at the moment. They probably launch alpha without Safecoin
implemented. Next we'll see test-Safecoins and when all is wel they move to Safecoin.

Dev,
Any update when the API on structured data RFC will do done please?
Thanks

I don't think any devs hang around here  Grin But before we see that RFC we probably see the RFC for disjoint groups first. That one is for a altered way of forming groups in routing. It actually make things simpeler as not all the nodes have separate routing tables. With disjoint groups implemented a group of nodes shares the same RT. That makes it more easy to control structured data as well as the datamanagers use routing as well.

Maidsafe when?

test n+1

where n -> ∞

Maybe an idea to not hang around in a topic about Maidsafe if you have 0% trust in what they do. It's like listening to R&B music while you don't like it. It doesn't make sense
from a mental health perspective  Tongue.

Sorry criticism hurts your feelings, but "R&B music" didn't take lots of money and then deliver nothing, so spare us the crappy deflections and shitty pop psychology.

We're not going to stop calling out fraud when we see it.

Wasn't the MVP supposed to be done months ago?   Roll Eyes

Yes it was, this whole project was meant to be out for I think over a year or so if you look at plans from the crowdfund in 2014. But show me one cryptoproject that was released on time, including a GUI and a 1.0 release tag? I own Ethereum as well, but even them with way more support and money still haven't released a fully working version of MIST. And I don't really care to be honest. I just follow the projects, look at their code and what they are doing and decide rather I keep my coins and give my support or not. Not that much more I can do.

TEST 7 is still up and running btw. Give it a go.

I was wondering what will happen to the 90% of Safe Coins once the network launches ?
How will they be distributed ?

When a users "farms" a Safecoin it's created and assigned to his address. This means the coin is created by the network because someone delivered a chunk out of his vault.
When a user uploads data (PUT) he gives up ownership of some Safecoin and the coin is free to be farmed again by someone else. So there is recycling of coins.

This is what happens:

Client > wants to PUT data to the network > close nodes say: burn x-amount of Safecoin first > client burns Safecoin > nodes sign data to be uploaded to he network.

Vault > get's a request for a chunk from network > delivers chunk (always has to) > says to close nodes: I delivered chunk > close nodes pick random Safecoin address and if it's free (not owned)
the Vault becomes the owner of the address.

So when 25% of all coins are farmed, from all new farming attempts 25% will fail as the nodes pick a random address out of the 4,3 billion Safecoin addresses.

There are other things happening as well. When a lot of people run Vaults (good Safecoin prices) the reward per delivered chunk goes down. When not enough people run Vaults the reward (FR) goes up goes up.
So the network balances itself out depending on how much supple/demand there is for storage. My guess is that the FR will be very low as a lot of people run Vaults in the hope to farm Safecoin.

This will all be tested with test-Safecoin first. At that time the devs can test several ways in doing this.

What's the difference between maidsafe project and the deep web? We can use tor right now for anonymous web use. Can some one please explain to earnest but unknowledgeble folks like me, why this project is touted to have massive potential. I have also read further coin dilution will happen as the project progresses which might hurt the value of maidsafe coins, is this true? I am sorry if I seem to spread fud, it's not my intention, in fact I am interested but would like to know more.

The SAFE Network doesn't connect you to the normal WWW. Instead you could register a public name like safe:myweblog and people will use a specialized browser (being worked on right now) to view you site. And it's fully P2P so no centralized servers. So upload your website and the network will store it forever. Same for data. You pay some Safecoin to upload (PUT) data to the network and it's there as long as you want. You can also store private data. It's split in chunks and fully encrypted. And through all the encryption and obfuscation layers no one has a clue what you are doing and who you are. So no government can shut this thing down as long as there's internet. They also won't come after you for watching a pirated movie as they don't know you've watched it. Same for Wikileaks, they could store Terabytes of data and no one could shut them down.

Download the Launcher and Demo App from the TEST 7 Topic on the forum and see what this is all about.

These binaries connect you to a droplet net from Maidsafe so they run the vaults for now. This way the client code is tested and
they can focus on that part (front end). Next step is releasing updated vaults (back end) again for people to run from home. Some great
testing going on, it shows them exactly where the trouble is.

Updated Launcher and Demo App

People's help is very much appreciated  Cheesy

TEST 7 brought up several issues and is offline. That's why it's called a test  Grin

We're waiting for TEST 7b. I'll update if we have more info.

So when will be the safe network released? After Test 29? I am a bagholder for half a year but im about to drop it when we won´t get near to the safe network finally... This Project runs since years and still is not finished.

Just my 2 cents

Here are the latest updates from today with links to GitHub as well. I don't know
more than that. Devs are working really hard, testing a lot of stuff. And what they brought over the last months since TEST 1 is great as well IMO. But I can't decide for you. I would just
join the test if I were you. To see what's going one. But that's your call.

Any news when is next test happening?

Lots of code changed over last week and last few days. Tonight is the new Dev-Update, will post link here. TEST 6 is still running,
but we might see updates to the Launcher and Demo App. Don't know if that's tonight or later. We'll see.
