All,
If you happen to have the Sapphire RX 470 card you can BIOS mod the core voltage quite easily using a hex editor as described below.
Possibly, this method can be used on other cards, too.

If you mod your BIOS it is at your own risk. I bear no responsibility.

I used HxD to undervolt core of my cards.

I found a recipe on overclock.net on Polaris Bios Editing - http://www.overclock.net/t/1604567/lightbox/post/25523158/id/2873391

Open the ROM BIOS file retrieved from your card in HxD.  Search for string FF 00 01 07 0C 00.
Locate the four bytes just preceeding the above string.   If the first two bytes = 8D 00 then the next two bytes is the VDDC.
Say you want a -75mV undervolt.  Then store the value F4 FF in the two bytes.  The actual value is FFF4 hex, which is -12 decimal.   (-12 x 6.25 = -75)
After edit your BIOS should read:   8D 00 F4 FF FF 00 01 07 0C 00
Save the file and open and save it with Polaris BIOS editor to update the checksum.
Then flash your card.
After reboot you can verify the lowered voltage using the TPO GPU-Z sofware.
Good luck!

Only on Sapphire Nitro models.

It's possible on every other model, but you'll have to add those offsets yourself  Wink
Which is perfectly possible Smiley

I have 3x RX 480 8Gb Nitro+ Sapphire

Use them on stock - and get ~24.6MHs single mining

Can you help me with you ROM?

I certainly will, Nitro are easy Grin

True, they already have standard global VDDC. So if you know how to open a HexEditor and know your way ove rto overclock forum. Then yes, this is easy.

It's those that don't have global vddc, those are the interesting roms Smiley

This is indeed childs play Smiley

Also have i been able to add support for multiple memory types: as in 1 rom for both Hynix and Elpida for example + being able to boot headless into windows Grin

I wish you good luck and it's nice what you're doing for the community!

Greetings!

344  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Hacked in VDDC in 480 REF Bios. Card reach 31mhs at 130w on: October 20, 2016, 06:39:51 AM
How bout a screenshot of the GPU draw on either GPU-Z or HWinfo  Wink  And a pic of the hashrate after 30min to an hour.   Thanks

I have been been running it for two days on several rigs. And the GPU-z value doesnt mean much, but here;

I don't see how this is a big deal, I can use watt tool to set the voltage offset manual for any 480 card myself as low as is tolerable for the system
some cards I have as low as a 150v offset and I get 120 watts DUAL mining on those

Anyone who pays for these voodoo bioses is a dum fk

If you don't understand, it just mean you're not part of the mining game. What if, you don't use windows? What if, you want this to be on 300 Rigs?

I agree, any bitcoin/eth paid for a bios will be hard to recoup mining.  I think its $2/card/month savings from 160w to 130w at 31mh

And when you have 500 Cards, that amount to how much? We serve GPUs on ethOS in the numbers of 5 digits, and that's only a small portion of the ETH network. O.O

Nice work on the bios.  Cheesy

I wasn't saying it is a bad idea, $1000/month savings is great if the cost of the bios is less than you save.  Although I would say it would be hard to sell for much since there are so many bios available free.

But that is a nice bios

The free VBIOSes are nothing but Polaris BIOS Editor jobs a monkey could do.

Ahhh Wolf!

You hurt my feelings! Be nice will you :p

Anyhow, i'm happy that my assist and help made you guys succeed in adding this offset Smiley

Further, i can only agree with virosa on this.

Adding global offset will give the gpu the command to start calculating vids from a lower starting point.
Which means that the specified core clocks will still use the amount of voltage they need, calculated by the voltage controller.

If you set this as a fixed value, you're basically saying: Mister GPU: You "MUST" use this vid and nothing more or less! (which in a lot of cases will run unstable..)

345  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Genesis Mining Presents: SGMiner-GM - now with XMR Support! [Updated 16/11/2016] on: October 16, 2016, 10:51:15 AM
XMR support has been added!

Keep in mind folks, this is a pre-release version. Currently, there is a bug with Windows where it crashes upon mining. We're able to reproduce it, but not able to find it.

I'd like to ask the community, though - what coin would you like to see next for SGMiner-GM?

I'm getting steady 30MH/s on each Fury X on stock clocks (1050/500). Claymore's can only get about 28MH.
A 390 at 1040Mhz gets 29Mh, with some overclocking I can surely can 32-33MH, but my cards warm up too much. Definitely the best miner out there.

The only issue I can spot is the CPU usage, which makes this miner basically worthless on weak CPUs. I couldn't run it on a single-core AMD CPU and a friend of mine had his rig crashing with a dual core Celeron installed. most mining rigs have very weak CPUs, and if this miner gets updated to support them, I am sure it will get much more traction.

Has it been determined that this issues running on systems with weak CPUs is real? Is there a fix coming?  I am wondering if this is the problem I am having on my multi-gpu mining rigs.  One GPU run at the right hash rate while the others run at half.  No matter what I do with the settings I cannot resolve this issue.  Both rigs have single core AMD CPUs.  I would love to use sgminer with its RPC capabilities but I am not going to invest in bigger CPUs for it.

Thanks.

If you search Wolf0's post in this thread, you will find that he posted a fix for the CPU usage bug.

Here it is again for those that don't want to look back through the thread.  I can confirm it no longer hogs the CPU on one core.
https://ottrbutt.com/miner/downloads/sgminer-gm/sgminer-gm-wolf-09222016.zip

copy sgminer.exe from the zip to the existing install directory.

I've gone ahead and added Wolf's fixed sgminer.exe to the release page, here: https://github.com/genesismining/sgminer-gm/releases/tag/5.3.0-gm

I bet 97% of the replies to this question will be "Zcash" :p

Wolf's latest .exe indeed works a lot better. Good that it's included.

Is it possible to make this miner work with https://github.com/sammy007/open-ethereum-pool/blob/master/docs/STRATUM.md in near future?

Working on that Sammy.
347  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: R9 280X - 15Mh/s on: October 14, 2016, 02:15:39 PM
Core 1170 will get you at that speed yeah..
348  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: R9 280X - 15Mh/s on: October 13, 2016, 09:49:36 AM
Hacking the memory timings is safe, worse case you will get hardware errors and need to revert back.

However its near impossible to get 18MH/s with these 280x currently. Best to just dual mine with them.

Perfectly possible Smiley

At this moment i had 2 interested parties. None of them have replied my pm's :p

Guess this domain scares people haha.

It's still up for sale!

Still also around 1500+ sessions per day.

Thank's for this very detailed guide.
Many seem to have successfully updatet they rigs.
I've tried for two days now with different drivers, changing slots etc.
Never get it running.
Whenever the modded card is plugged in, Win10 gets frozen or so.

Is it possible it does not work with Sapphire RX480 Nitro+ ?

The reference BIOS will not work with the Nitro+. You need a modded Nitro+ BIOS, which I have, as I did my 6 cards.

But it's not great. For some reason the Nitro+ cards will ignore VDDC set below 1v, it essentially bottoms out at 1v and I have to use MSI AB or similar to get it to go lower. Nearly all the cards will run with VDDC of 0.89v at 1125MHz core speed. Sio much power saving to have, just not via the BIOS. Not sure if it's a card or driver issue preventing the BIOS setting VDDC lower than 1v. My reference card doesn't experience the same problem.

Also, I'm finding very few of my Nitro+ will do 2200MHz on the RAM like my reference card, so for safety and stability I have RAM set to 2125MHz, this still get's it over 29mh/s per card.

I'll look to share the BIOS later if I remember.

Hey Walrusbonzo.

You're basically setting VID's and not VDDC, in this case, as i have the same cards, you should add a global VDDC offset "8D".
This way the voltage controller will start calculating those VID's from a lower starting point. Which has better results Wink

Now added in Sapphire 390 mod claims to be 39MH+ Will be interesting to see but someone posted proof how true and stable this is would like some hardcore miners with the card to come along and test.

That's also mine Smiley

But again, that's just a seriously heavy OC. I wouldn't recommend it :p
352  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: Where did my nanopool payment go? on: October 04, 2016, 08:34:00 PM
The entire network is still partially under attack.
Geth is having serious issues syncing, if nano pool uses geth to perform payouts they are probably delaying payments (same goes for dwarfpool).

Just have some patience until the issues are resolved.

So I have decided on putting this thread together as they are many threads been created and being lost in time and hard to find. I am listing every one I can find here, from old cards, to new cards. I will be starting new first and working back in time to the older cards. I will be also providing details to what bios is for what card and version and brand etc. No doubt some of you will find this useful feel free to bookmark will save you having to bookmark a million different threads Tongue

List is being worked on so check back later Smiley

Do you guys know why one of my flashed Sapphire 480x nitros always ends up with a hashrate of 18 while all my others have 29 ?

    I just got 6 Sapphire RX480 Nitro+ too.

So far my findings are that almost none of them will go higher than 2125~2150MHz stable on the memory.

When I push the memory too high, I will either get lots of memory errors according to HWINFO and this causes hash rates to fluctuate. Whereas sometimes it's almost like the memory bus is put in "limp mode" upon starting claymore miner. When this happens I don't tend to get memory errors but I can see that memory bus utilisation will be lower. As in, it might just sit at 50% and never go any higher.

For example, the first two cards I tested I set memory to 2250MHz like my reference card. I fired up claymore miner and while my reference card started mining at 31mh/s, the other two cards were only mining at 14mh/s and the memory bus utilisation was really low.

So I set memory speed back to 2200MHz on the two nitros and restarted the miner. Now I was mining at over 30mh/s on all three cards. But both nitros had fluctuating hashrates.

so I fired up HWINFO and found all three cards producing lots of memory errors, but especially the two nitros.

After much testing I've found that both these two nitros will only do 2125MHz without causing memory errors or entering limp mode. The reference card is quite happy at 2150MHz without producing errors. The other four nitros are all slightly different too, but generally 2125MHz seems to be the magic number on the bus. Incidentally, they'll all do 1150MHz on the core at just 900mv!

In short, if one card is giving you much lower hashrates, it's probably because it can't handle the high clock rate on the memory. I'd highly recommend using HWINFO to track memory errors and memory bus utilisation. In MSI AB, the utilisation is known as GPU FB. If your cards are not going upto 100% and sitting there most of the time then the bus is in "limp mode".

    Hope this helps.

FB stands for Frame Buffer, And yes, as long as this isn't 100%, you're generating memory errors. You don't even have to check HWinfo to know.

Because the core and memory are in a way connected to eachother, raising or reducing your core clock will also solve this issue Wink

Just noticed this miner automatically determines the eth stratum protocol mode of the pool it is connecting to, at least for dwarf vs coinotron mode.  Something I may try to add to Genoil's...

Strange, when I tried it did not want to connect to dwarfpool's 8080 port, only http 80 port was working.

Ditto with any pools based on sammy's open-ethereum-pool.
