341  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [GEO] GeoCoin | GIS & GeoTechnologies on: January 30, 2018, 08:14:58 PM
Hello people!

Im looking at GEO after this post from experienced investor on tradingview : https://www.tradingview.com/chart/GEOBTC/Y6yBXKvA-GEO-In-a-world-with-1-Billion-Dollar-Dreams/

I think the idea is great, no comment on that : thumbs up to the team for this.

BUT, there is a big but, some buts actually.

1. App design & Traction
After three  years of work, at the moment, the Android apps does not have so much traction and a poor design, not so much happening on it. I would be OK with that if project was 1 year old, but it's not the case.

2. Website/Team  Credibility : Marketing
Website does not show any white paper, not even the team : who are the devs, how many are they, what's their past experience. A little bit of marketing would be great. Being great devs is enough to create an app, but taking a project to success as a company is different : it needs structure, process, a vision. Not only technical skills. I hope these basics of entrepreneurship are not neglected by GEO team.

3. Structure & execution : having a great idea is not enough
There's a say in my country when it comes to entrepreneurship/startups : "all is execution" meaning an idea is far away from being enough. What's hard and what brings you success is the ability to drive a project from A to Z with a vision, a business plan, a marketing/distribution strategy etc...

Does GEO team takes this into account ? From the last video published, which seemed really really cheap ( is not a critic it's just the fact ), i'm afraid we are here just with a great idea but that needs more vision, more marketing, more strategy. More people in the team, marketers for instance, and a bigger team, would probably help to develop more.

Don't expect a great idea alone to turn into big project. It's much more than that.

Any constructive answers are welcomed, I want to be convinced before I throw some money on GEO.

Thanks!

Totally agree with you. I was an early adopter and fan of this coin. I hope the devs will reach their goals.
GeoCoin is an ongoing project and we've proposed a lot of work and improvements in our recent Roadmap.  Please understand that migrating to the Ubiq Network is a major improvement for the project and we're excited to be joining this growing community!

Just to clarify we do not have an Android app currently, you are likely being confused with GeoCoin Snap which is not affiliated or related to this project in any way.  I made mention of this in the past video.

The last video was not meant to be some shock and awe amazing production, I was simply trying to provide as much information to the community in a quick and simple format.  I had been getting a lot of questions regarding the swap process and details in the weeks leading up.

I own GEOcoin of Yobit.
I could not send my GEOcoin to BITTREX and CRYPTOPIA.
If I move GEOcoin from Yobit to GEO wallets today, can I manually swap to UBIQcoin later?
Or is GEOcoin of Yobit obsolete now?
Please, tell me. help me. Cry
Yobit users were warned to withdraw their coins prior to the snapshot.
You will not be able to withdraw from Yobit to Bittrex or Cryptopia as you have missed the deadline.
You will not be able to withdraw to a GEO wallet today and participate in the manual swap as the balance did not exists at the snapshot block taken at block # 1568125.  Only balances that existed at the time of the snapshot will be credited to the Ubiq Network.
GeoCoin on Yobit is obsolete as that blockchain is now considered developer abandoned.
How will the following blocks  # 1568125  work?
i see block 1572155 .... still exists
The blockchain continue growing since there are people still mining it. But the chain is abandoned by the devs, the exchanges... So the GEO coins of this blockchain after the block 1568125 doesn't have any value.
I agree, the POW chain will continue to exists as long as people continue to mine that blockchain.  The blocks and GEO occuring after block # 1568125 will not be migrated to the Ubiq Network, or be supported by Bittrex or Cryptopia exchanges.

when can we get iOS?
Our main focus at this point in time is getting through the swap and getting the exchanges back up and running smoothly.

Why don't dev reach to Yobit support and handle the swap?
Yobit has listed every Bitcoin fork there is, and non-existent ones as well.
Don't see the reason not to participate in Geo swap.
We have reached out to Yobit and have received no response.

How many Geocoin with Yobit exchange wallet?

this is great news meaning GEO supply will be reduced since Yobit coins are worthless and on the wrong chain  Grin
Not sure exactly, but the order books show at least a few thousand there.

Hey guys, sorry I did not reach out directly to any mining pools.  I tried to inform the community as much as possible prior to the markets being paused and the snapshot block being taken.

My methods of communication are typically Bitcointalk, Twitter, Facebook, Slack, Discord and YouTube.

All the balances mined on the GEO POW chain up until the snapshot will be credited over to the Ubiq Network.  If you missed the on exchange swap supported by both Bittrex and Cryptopia, you'll have to use our manual swap claims process which we will be setting up shortly after the new token is live.  The process involves "Signing a Message" with the GEO desktop wallet to prove ownership of the account.  You will also need to provide your new GEO Token address from the Ubiq Network and the cryptographic signature.  These 3 elements will then be sent via a Google Form and be processed on an individual basis.

We're currently working with the UBQ developers and the exchanges to get the new token live and running.  This process will take some time and I'll be sure to post back here and on some of the other channels above when we are online once again.

I hope that helps answer some of your questions.  If you have any more questions, just let us know, thanks!
So i can mine GEO normally, right?
Please give me discord invite link please.
No, the POW mining phase of GeoCoin has now ended with this blockchain upgrade.

Here's the invite link to the UBQ community discord.  Please follow the instructions in the #welcome channel, upload an avator photo and ask to be verified.  Then look for us in the #geo channel.

You can now mine Geo and more than 130 coins at new autoexchange mining pool Zergpool.com at 0% fee now. Please use following commands for different mining options

Option 1 Auto coin switch by profitability within algorithm with payment to wallet
Code:
 -o stratum+tcp://zergpool.com:4733 -u <YOURBTCWALLET> -p c=BTC

Option 2 Direct coin mining to coin wallet
Code:
 -o stratum+tcp://zergpool.com:4733 -u <YOURGEOWALLET> -p c=GEO,mc=GEO

Option 3 Direct coin mining with autoexchange to specified coin wallet
Code:
 -o stratum+tcp://zergpool.com:4733 -u <YOURBTCWALLET> -p c=BTC,mc=GEO

Please note mc stands for mining coin symbol, c stand for payout coin symbol

 Happy mining,
  cheers pinpin
Please do not setup a new mining pool for the original POW blockchain which is now developer abandoned.

Currently, Yobit owns GEOcoin.
If I move GEOcoin from Yobit to my wallet right away, can I manually swap it later?
Or is GEOcoin on Yobit now obsolete?
GeoCoin on Yobit is now obsolete as it is beyond the snapshot block and is considered developer abandoned.

I've just noticed something funny -

Quote
Note: Bittrex will be closing our GEO wallet and stop trading the token to take accurate snapshots of balances. If any GEO deposits you had sent to Bittrex are not settled (i.e. marked as pending) by 6:00 PM PT, on 01/25/2018 (1:00 AM on 01/26/2018 UTC), you may not be credited with GEO.

6:00 PM on 01/25/2018 PT (current time: 2:30pm - 3:30 hours from now)
1:00 AM on 01/26/2018 UTC (current time 10:30pm - 2:30 hours from now)

Bittrex is time travelling :O
Good catch YoggYogg, had to get home 1 hour earlier then expected.  Markets are now on pause, snapshot will be taken tomorrow!

I sold my 2300 geo at 41000 sat. Price probably back to 10k, still very high. Doesnt seem like much is happening here so I will wait for dump under 10k before buying. I am no troll but i just think price will slowly decline as no big news for geo many say it is the crypto that will not be worth anything

I doubt we will hit 10k after token swap. Let's not forget that total supply will reduce from 5mln to 4mln and many GEO stuck in exchanges and wallets will get "lost" forever because many people don't know about token swap they probably either won't even try to contact GeoCoin's support.
But in primis... From PoW to PoL  Grin

pow is not done yet though is it so much more dumpin can happen. 10k is still a good high value though.

If you have some more - could you please put some orders down below 40k? I would not mind to switch some Ubiq for Geo at that price and you can rebuy later at 10k Smiley

I very hope that the price doesnt go that low!! I am not sure though in my mind end of pow phase means that less coins a day less dumping meaning more price increases. I would think this but crypto is very odd and markets are difficult to predict.

also less coins 5m down to 4m should mean more value. But I can only guess.  Roll Eyes
Just to clarify our original POW specs set the maximum GEO supply at 6,833,000 after all 5,000,000 blocks were mined (calculations below).  This is being reduced to 4,000,000 total supply, so even further reduction.

Block #'s and Block Reward
1 x 34,000: 34,000
2-100 x 0: 0
101-40,000 x 10: 399,000
40,001-80,000 x 9: 360,000
80,001-120,000 x 8: 320,000
120,001-160,000 x 7: 280,000
160,001-200,000 x 6: 240,000
200,001-240,000 x 5: 200,000
240,001-280,000 x 4: 160,000
280,001-320,000 x 3: 120,000
320,001-360,000 x 2: 80,000
360,001-5,000,000 x 1: 4,640,000

Total: 6,833,000

Is geo only as POW or preparing in future for pos (MN) ?

It's moving to Ubiq network as ERC20 token.
The Bittrex market will be paused at 6pm PT this evening and the snapshot will be taken.  That will mark the end of the POW mining phase.  All GEO will then be migrated to the Ubiq Network and created as a new ERC20 token.  The former POW chain will be considered developer abandoned at this time.

I can't wait for PoW to be off, although im curious does current PoW stop during snapshot or is it gonna be fazed off over few days/weeks? Current 1500 coins daily feels like a slaughter at this point Sad
Bitrex supporting Geo coin swap right? If so I don't need to move my coins right?
Yes Bittrex is supporting the swap, do not move your coins.

My most recent video was created quickly and meant to answer a lot of questions I've been getting from the community about he upcoming blockchain upgrade so the overall production level was not as exciting as some of our previous videos.  I blurred the background to make the text more readable as that was the main focus.  The past few months I've been working on coordinating all the details for this swap which has kept me quite busy.

It appears that Cryptopia has already paused in the screenshots above, therefore if you cannot send your GEO to Bittrex, it is best to keep them in a GEO desktop wallet in preparation for the manual swap claim process.

For those of you who scored a physical trackable GeoCoin from DCTRL in Vancouver, here's some info for activating your trackable and getting setup on geocaching.com

https://twitter.com/BackroadDave/status/955862553447419904

If you'd like the last known location of the trackable added to the map, please send us your url once it's activated.

90% reduction in yearly inflation, I did not expect that. Well I am sure many long term holders will be happy with that announcement. So circulating supply is currently 3,396,517 GEO and there won't ever be more than the total supply of 4,000,000 mined during the next 10 years of PoW?
The remainder of the new GEO coins will be distributed through Proof of Location (PoL), where GEO can only be 'mined' by picking them up off the map interface.  This blockchain upgrade will mark the end of the POW mining phase.

I've heard a lot of questions from the community lately so I just wanted to post another warning that we are not related in any way to the "GeoCoin Snap" app available on Android.  Please be very cautious online as crypto is the wild west these days.  As far as I know, that project doesn't even have a working wallet, source code or trade-able marketplace.
