341  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you do with your idle coins? on: October 03, 2015, 03:59:12 PM
I just have them sitting... that's all. Im also looking for ways to generate interest out of my modest stack (less than 2 figures) but it seems "everything is a scam" and I get told by everyone everytime I ask it that I just should hodl.

BTCJam was an idea I had but apparently so many people default, they run with your money without any consequences and you just lose it.
Most "Put your money here and generate interest" things are just good ol ponzi schemes. It seems no one is coming up with a serious platform to securely do this.
So yeah im afraid we are stuck with holding and holding only.
342  Economy / Economics / Re: Brazilian Real now more volatile than Bitcoin on: October 03, 2015, 03:56:02 PM
This is very scary when you think about it closely. Your life turns into a never-ending thinking game, should I buy, should I buy not and also should I receive the money or not for a good or service.

It's amazing what's going on in the world to the certain countries and certain currencies. Greece, Cyprus, Puerto Rico, Russia with its Ruble, Venezuela, Chinese stock market crash, even Australian Dollar that lost amazing amount of value lately and now Brazil. And all of this in just a couple of years!

I am afraid that the future brings us many more problems like this and that this is just a beginning.

P.S. Let's not forget Euro also with its historical drop this year!

It's even more than that; Saudi Arabian riyal has been having big exchange rate fluctuations, the Chilean currency has been having problems, and the yuan itself (although I suppose you could argue that the PBC chose how much they devalued by; about 6 or 8 significant devaluations in the last 6 weeks  Cheesy). More to come I'm guessing.

Living where this takes place sucks though. We ought to try do our bit as Bitcoiners IMO, shop from Brazilians and Chileans and all those other economies where it's easy to trade with them. If you live nearby the more heavily controlled economies like Venezuela, Cyprus Greece or Russia, maybe there are ways we could trade with people there despite the encumberances. Everyone wins IMO; both trading parties, as well as bitcoin as a whole.

Yes, I wasn't even aware of Saudi Arabia and Chile. While yes, China is a real mess at the moment.

I am not an anarchist that wishes this financial system falls apart so we would gain from it. If it real does fall apart, I think we all ought to lose more than we will gain. But I don't see which other way this all is headed than the bad way, unfortunately!

On the top of all that, add the European immigration crisis. Also Italy, Spain, Ireland and, Portugal that are very close to the bankruptcy and we are set for one hell of a party!

Well, the euro is still very solid in those countries at least for now, we'll see how it plays out. Apparently Spain was making good progress or so I've read, but it seems they are just creating a new bubble of undervalued jobs to mask unemployment rates. Basically, the so called German minijobs model is being applied in Spain and the unemployment rates looks like it's getting better but in reality they are just dividing existing jobs and salaries. It's pretty sad to see. I wonder how this is going to hold up in a decade.
343  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Methods of growing your Bitcoin? on: October 03, 2015, 03:52:24 PM
It's best to stay away from it, but if everyone was paranoid about every Bitcoin venture ever no entrepreneur would be able to get anything done because no one would fund them.. so it's a doubled edged sword. I think a small % of them will be legit make early investors rich but its a big gamble to be honest, and I would rather gamble my money in poker and have fun as well.
Can anyone show me an IPO/HYIP that became a success in the Bitcoin world and made investors rich?
344  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My answer to: "What is the best way make money with Bitcoin?" on: October 03, 2015, 03:42:56 PM
So what guarantees people is going to buy it? To get your investment back you need to sell.. how many books to reach that initial 1500 dollar investment? I think quite a lot of books need to be sold. Also you are competing against guys like Andreas Antonopoulos which are big names in the game, he even has a book named Mastering Bitcoin... to make profits you need a public and some no name book has no big public.
345  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are you holding your bitcoin for a price increase? on: October 03, 2015, 03:39:58 PM
Im pretty sure almost everyone is waiting for the price to go up and they are just holding in the meantime. The ones that don't do this are the few ones that are getting paid in Bitcoin. If I got paid in Bitcoin and didn't need to go through the hassle buying it (and losing money in the process due fees) then I would use it daily, but I dont get paid in Bitcoin so for me Bitcoin feels like gold and not like a currency, I wanna hold it because i value it more than currency.
346  Economy / Services / Re: Best Poker and Bingo - Playtodos.com Signature Campaign on: October 03, 2015, 03:34:46 PM
Is this campaign done or not? why doesn't it clearly say so in the OP? It's not clear at all from what I've read, if last week was the last term, or current week is the last term.. I don't get it.
Edit: Ive checked the google spreadsheet, next payment is 5th, so the current term is going. My question is, is it going to continue after October 5th?
347  Economy / Speculation / Re: well, been almost 2 year since i was last active with bitcoin on: September 21, 2015, 12:00:10 AM
I have this site on bookmarks and check it out whenever I forget about when the halving is.
http://bitcoinclock.com/

OP on what did you spend your Bitcoins? I would have converted to fiat if I was convinced it was dying, otherwise I would have probably wasted it on something stupid like a new smartphone and some computer parts among other things I don't really need to be honest.
348  Economy / Economics / Re: What's your guess on the price of bitcoin for Jan 2016 and July 2016? on: September 20, 2015, 11:52:50 PM
This should be moved to the speculation subforum. Anyway, given the fact the halving will be around July 2016, i expect some change on the price, ideally a big pump, but January 2016 is way too soon. So I would say, Jan 2016 will be around the same as it is now, and one or two months before 2016 a big pump will begin.
349  Economy / Economics / Re: Inflation Would KILL Bitcoin Dead on: September 20, 2015, 11:50:10 PM
Am i missing somehing? Who is going to change the cap?

On the other hand, they are just numbers. (bitcoins) You can double the bitcoin count, their value will stay the same for 2x coins. So what is the problem?

Think about this, they are just numbers.

the miners maybe, if the revenue of their whole mining farm will turn to dust with the next future halving, and with the possibility of bitcoin not growing as intended if this happen, maybe they could force to leave the already unprofitable block reward for a longer time by increasing the limit

basically a modify of the controlled supply, with the right consensus it can be made

If they do this everyone will dump their coins in panic, so what do they have to win by doing that?
As OP said, killing the hardcap wouldn't be Bitcoin anymore, it would be some derivative coin that isn't Bitcoin. Bitcoin = 21 million maxcap, is a core principle.
350  Economy / Economics / Re: A good day to buy hard? on: September 20, 2015, 11:43:45 PM
A great great day to buy hard indeed. I am seriously considering buying with all my available money right now. We're flat, I dont think the price is dipping below $200 again, ever. We may be leaving behind $300 and maybe $400 forever within the next 8 months. I am very optimistic of the route we're taking in the not-so-distant future.

yea we can see a big buy wall at 220$
Im hold my bitcoin too

I wouldn't place my trust in a big buy wall... The one purpose of a huge buy wall is a great opportunity to get dumped on hard. Sells will be absorbed easily.

There are tons of fake walls being put on both sell and buy orders. If you go on bitcoinwisdom or specially in Poloniex you can see how there are walls being created and then being taken off suddendly trying to trap other people's orders on there. Poloniex also has an annoying bot that automatically creates orders of +1 satoshi increments. Is there any logical explanation for this?
351  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buying Drugs with Bitcoin ? on: September 20, 2015, 11:41:24 PM
Anyone bought drugs with bitcoin and what are you thought on the subject ?

i know i have used bitcoin to buy psilocybe cubensis thank you bitcoin i cold have not done this without you now i can trip watching corry & eastenders in the evening its such a sight.
bitcoin isnt as anonymous as you think.

True this.  But at the same time, it's more anonymous than the alternatives.

Not really, Monero is in principle more anonymous than Bitcoin since the blockchain is not transparent. Good luck in finding any good deals with Monero tho, it seems it's still pretty small merchant wise.
Overall I don't recomend buying any drugs or doing anything illegal. It's not just worth it. Cut the habits and get some a better hobby imo.
352  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Realistically does bitcoin have any competition ? on: September 20, 2015, 11:37:54 PM
Bitcoin has 0 competition to get replace from where it is. Other projects can ONLY complement it and therefore make it stronger. Case in point, if Ethereum is a success it will never rplecace Bitcoins function and place, it will only compliment whatever Bitcoin cannot do in terms of smart contracts.
If Monero is a success, it will only compliment the Bitcoin ecosystem as al alternative for anonymous transactions, etc, you get the point
353  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Use cases. What do you actually use Bitcoin for? on: September 20, 2015, 11:31:54 PM
The thing is there isn't much you can do with Bitcoin right now unless some special use cases where you may benefit from the fact Bitcoin doesn't carea bout local politics on money. So right now I am going to use it as an alternative to gold, just another asset with very special features, and i'll hold until 2 or 3 years were things will be way more mature than they are now.
354  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: is gambling fix your life? or wreck your life? on: September 15, 2015, 12:17:04 AM
My gambling is very calculated, I only gamble when I see a clear win. Example, I gambled the other day on Mayweather winning and once again it was a good move. Sadly he's retiring, so next easy gamble for me will be for the next Klitchko battle, hopefully I can figure out how to do the bet with bitcoin this time, because I haven't been able to bet on boxing with bitcoin yet.
355  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Mayweather vs Berto: easy money? on: September 15, 2015, 12:14:23 AM
how did i manage to miss this match? i could have made really easy money with it as mayweather was surely going to win, oh well cant do anything right now
All websites paid only 1.01 so not a big deal for that risk. And berto did well.

I think Berto got outboxed. Once again, Mayweather's opponent got outplayed the same way as all of his past competitors, the guy was throwing tons of punching and landing like less than half of them, which lowered his accuracy stats. Mayweather % of accuracy and points was much higher with way less thrown punches. Mayweather was once again the most intelligent and calculated fighter and that was enough to make him another victory. I will miss his fighting technique even tho it's usually hated by lot of people out there.

All he has to do now is enjoy his near 1 billion fortune for the rest of life. I wish I could trade places.
356  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: To stop centralization, you need to cap the Difficulty, not the Blocksize !!! on: September 15, 2015, 12:12:02 AM
If the difficulty is capped you would basically limit the mining market and the development of it, it would be a regulation that stagnates free competition for mining. This alone could have disasterous consequences. Think about your proposition again and try later, because this one simply doesn't compute.
357  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: anyonw knows about when mining bitcoin will end on: September 15, 2015, 12:09:28 AM
Mining will never end. I have heard something about the amounts of rewards beeing real low around the year 2140

In about 2030 the rewards will be so small that it will be next to negligible. This can only mean that if Bitcoin survived, the price of 1 Bitcoin will be high, very high, enough that small rewards keep miners happy. Satoshi himself said in 2010, if Bitcoin is alive in 10 years, it will either be nothing or very big.
358  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin: currency or investment? on: September 14, 2015, 11:44:33 PM
Bitcoin is e-gold that has features of cash too.
I treat it myself as internet or might I say, digital gold. You buy it because you understand the technology behind it, you buy it because you understand for the first time ever scarcity has been designed in a digital way, you buy it because you know in the future its purchasing power will visit moon.

And at the same time, I could get some of it and buy some starbucks coffee (something you will never be able to do with gold and whatnot).

Yeah, that's ver true.. But not only that, I believe we are making strides in seeing how the first btc debit cards are working out, and if I'm not mistaken, they're working pretty nicely. It needs to stay somewhat decentralized, but at the same time banks now and days have to see it as a legit currency that they would accept if btc were to be taken seriously and have the absolute highest purchasing power.

In an ideal world Bitcoin would untie itself from fiat. The fact fiat is tied to Bitcoin is slowing down the creative process of Bitcoin's technology development a lot. I wish people would just start accepting BTC everywhere so we don't have to deal with this fiat bullshit anymore. Unfortunately this seems like a pipedream. I will not be using said debit cards tho, I want to stay debt free.
359  Economy / Economics / Re: Will the Fed hike rates? Should it? on: September 13, 2015, 05:18:38 PM
We are headed towards negative rates and eventual QE4. I wonder how many QE installations can they go on for until the system goes pop. So far it seems to work. AS long as people keep accepting dollar worldwide, I dont see how the system will crash because at the end of the day what matters is people accepting the money as valid or not, even if the root of the creation of the money is scammy, it seems people dont care as long as it buys you things.
360  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Mayweather vs Berto: easy money? on: September 13, 2015, 05:02:32 PM
Okay guys so that was it. I hope you all made money thanks to Mayweather (once again). It was really easy. It's sad that he is leaving tho. Or at least that's what he said. So what will happen next? I think he will eventually come back to get that perfect 50-0 looking record. Some are considering cinco de mayo as a potential comeback for the final mayweather fight, maybe a Pacquiao rematch fueled by the steroid usage controversy, or maybe Amir Khan. I don't think he will risk it tho, so hey may be retiring it this time for good. For sure he will duck GGG if he comes back.
