344  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is a bitcoin credit union feasible ? on: July 12, 2012, 03:49:55 AM
we were talking about this in the donators section a few weeks back, nothing really came of it, however I think there is interest in forming one with some of the big lenders.
345  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC will hit $8+ within one month of this thread. on: July 10, 2012, 02:11:53 PM
I think we may hit $8 by the end of the week.   Grin

I think we can get to $10 in two weeks, but I think it will crash down to 4-5 by the time OP posted, not sure if that counts
346  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory - Discussion Thread on: July 08, 2012, 09:52:49 PM
can't wait to use this! However the non importing feature from wallets in 0.6.XX makes this distro completely useless for me, any ETA on when the new version supporting 0.6.2 will be released?

First of all, it's going to be a little while.  I need a new wallet format.  Read a few messages back in this thread for more info.

Second of all, why is this such a dealbreaker for folks?  I'm not looking down on anyone for this, I just don't understand why this feature is so critical -- in fact, it's going to cause so many problems for people I don't even want to do it.  Bitcoin-Qt is especially not suited for multiple programs using the same addresses at the same time -- users will end up with locked coins and incorrect balances and it's really difficult to fix.

(1) Even if you can import your whole bitcoin-qt wallet, only the exact addresses you import will be useful.  All new addresses produced by Armory and Bitcoin-qt will be different.  This is one reason that, if you are going to import any Bitcoin-qt addresses, you should import all of them and then remove the wallet from Bitcoin-qt.
(2) If you're dealing with Vanitygen addresses:  those are in the correct format already, so there's not problem there.
(3) If you're not sure yet whether you want to make the move, then you shouldn't be migrating anything.  Please just create a new Armory wallet and move some/all of your coins to it.  Move them back if you don't like Armory.  So much heartache can be avoided this way.

I know that some people are attached to some of their addresses and that's why some people must have a migration feature.  And some users want to be able to migrate your keys from an offline wallet without bringing it online.  Those are two reasons that wallet migration should be a dealbreaker, but I thought it was a small percentage of users.  What other reasons are there?

I am seriously frustrated, because I feel like migration feature is going to cause endless heartache and customer-support issues (locked coins are always a crisis).  I just want to know why people are requesting this feature, and make sure that users who actually should not be using the migrate feature anyway, aren't passing up Armory because it's not there.    (it sounds like I'm going to have to add all sorts of warnings to the program, akin to what I just warned in this post)

I wouldn't care, but the problem is I have about 40 accounts with different people all sending coins to specific addresses of mine, and tracking them all down individually and getting them to switch to a new address would be way too much work to prove useful for me.
347  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Why I trust Patrick Harnett on: July 08, 2012, 09:41:05 PM
Don't trust anyone. Only invest money that you can live without.

definitely true, but patrick is up there with my local bank in terms of trust IMO, I've dealt with him enough.

351  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Starfish BCB - Loans and Deposits (deposit rate 1.5%/week from 1 July) on: July 05, 2012, 03:04:55 AM
Looking to do another small, short term loan this time.  Will PM you the details shortly.

Starfish loans 4tw!

Done. (easy for a good piece of repeat business).

In other news, I was considering the troll feeding frenzy that goes around new loan requests and considering what processes would make it easier for new borrowers.  It links to a few concepts I've had floating around for a while, but it needs to be a bit easier.

you could do what hashking does and make his site accept loan requests, keeping the "flames" off of the newbies if you will, might be an idea.

Also, still waiting on bitcoinica for that investment we talked about, hopefully they will come around soon
352  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [Payout Updates] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: July 04, 2012, 12:41:51 PM
~35% of claimants are marked accurate
~86% of total funds are marked accurate
~25% of total funds have been repaid

Quote
[12:45:25] Amir Taaki: if we spend a whole day doing claims over skype
[12:45:33] Amir Taaki: we can maybe finish 50 of them in a day
[12:46:14] Incitatus: dude I have so many lined up for patrick to do
[12:46:21] Incitatus: where all the work is done
[12:46:49] Incitatus: he spent from friday to monday working on trying to automate withdraws
[12:47:04] Amir Taaki: i can do withdrawals
[12:47:14] Amir Taaki: we need those bitcoinica payments out
[12:47:16] Incitatus: you can build code to automate it?
[12:47:19] Amir Taaki: no
[12:47:19] Incitatus: you can't do withdraws
[12:47:47] Incitatus: everythign you touch that has to do with money blows up in our face
[12:48:08] Incitatus: we cannot fuck up
[12:48:12] Amir Taaki: ok
[12:49:47] Incitatus: looks like a good article
[12:49:53] Incitatus: can't read it now
[12:58:56] Amir Taaki: so what's happening with bitcoinica payments?
[12:59:05] Amir Taaki: why doesn't patrick give you some mtgox USD?
[12:59:58] Amir Taaki: i see lots of claims marked as accurate though. very nice.
[13:02:06] Incitatus: yea idk, too busy i guess. As long as mtgox wouldn't lock my account down then that would be cool but that's very possible. Techinically we'd have to get permission i think that's why
[13:02:23] Incitatus: but yea there are many that patrick himself has to do and we're just waiting on that
[13:02:26] Incitatus: obv he's uber busy
(about blow ups, I am careless/irresponsible and not security conscious - hence I don't have admin root access on Intersango.)

Zhou is totally correct in what he says. We (Bitcoin Consultancy) have taken on responsibility for the payments. In order to do that, we had to complete the paperwork for the formation of Bitcoinica Consultancy. He's also not directly involved, but has been helpful with the odd query when needed (despite not being involved).

About converting the balances: if you prefer USD, then you can specify it on your payments option for the claims.

I think he meant "which is easier to facilitate the claim", not necessarily which he prefers.

hey genjix, I just PMed you something you may want to take a look at.
354  Economy / Securities / Re: BS&T -- Are you staying or leaving? on: July 03, 2012, 01:46:22 PM
Centralized depositing is probably the worst thing we could do as a community, if I remember correctly from a discussion last night on #bitcoin-otc, 1% of the entire bitcoin economy has cash in passthroughs, not even direct trust accounts. BS&T is turning into the DeepBit of the bitcoin banking world, we need to change or else a pirate default could spell the end to bitcoin as we know it.
355  Economy / Goods / Re: eBay 7970 cheap from Canada on: July 02, 2012, 04:07:33 PM
haha the sault, its been a while since I've been up that way, GL on your auction.
356  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [Payout Updates] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: July 01, 2012, 07:12:44 PM
Any information you have can help your claim get processed faster:

- MtGox deposit codes
- Any emails received from Bitcoinica
- Photograph of your ID to prove account ownership
- Bitcoin transaction IDs or addresses used with Bitcoinica.

Send any information to bitcoinica.reimburse@gmail.com

Just to get it straight: You cannot oblige people to accept this as a condition for getting their BTC back if they did not consent to Bitscamica's usage conditions to provide such information in the first place.

Who in his right mind is going to send personal information to people like you?

I really hope law will be enforced in this case.

They didn't say you have to, they just said it would help them "process your claim faster", read from that what you will.
357  Economy / Services / Re: World of Warcraft Account Unbanning/retrieval on: July 01, 2012, 02:42:04 PM
( For those of you with accounts you've paid for that have been re-called, i can get those back to. Even accounts requiring ID's to be sent in to blizzard. I make very good Fake ID's that work everytime. )

Sorry, what?

he's social engineering the compliance department, mentioning this to a WoW botter I know.
358  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [Payout Updates] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: July 01, 2012, 02:26:01 PM
OK, sorry I took it so personally. I understand the frustration, but I'm confident that progress is being made now. It will take time. Donald has taken the initiative largely and is making solid progress. There are some holdups, and Zhou is being helpful too by sharing information needed.

There's something with Tihan going on, but I am not following that because it's unneeded drama for me - it seems he got fired, although I'm not sure for what. Personally I don't know if it's justified because I don't know the specifics. On the one hand, his boss felt the need to do so. On the other hand, when Bitcoinica was first hacked, I was terrified and suicidal at the thought that users funds could not be replaced. Tihan put those funds up, which is why we can now process payments out.

Are you going to ignore my question? I have a few friends in London, can they pay you a visit and inquire about the missing funds? Genjix, answer this question clearly for me, is Zhoutong responsible for my lost bitcoins or YOU are responsible for my lost? I thought Zhoutong at first because he lied to all of us and based on that I targeted him, but since I see you are making payouts and you seem to represent bitcoinica now, I now ask YO
u.

ONE LAST TIME, When will you payout my bitcoins? TOTAL = 16,000 BTC

Maria.

Maria: as speaking for everyone on this forum, Shut the fuck up.

360  Economy / Lending / Re: Raising funds for 3D Printer, 300BTC on: June 28, 2012, 02:09:34 PM
Hi everyone,

I created a project on BitcoinFunding.com to raise funds to purchase a 3d Printer at https://bitcoinfunding.com/projects/purchase-mendelmax-3d-printer1/271

The main idea is to setup a MendelMax to offer 3D prints to the public for bitcoins.

Everyone that donates will be provided with a free print of the object of their choice shipped to you.

I am asking for 300BTC to go for the fully assembled model but I may be willing to go in up to 100btc and or to get the cheaper unassembled model.

I own bitcoin3dprinter.com and once I get the printer I will put up a website and start a service that will be of great benefit to the bitcoin community at large.

Please let me know any questions about this you might have.  Thanks!

why would you buy a 3d printer? they aren't that hard to make, seems like a massive waste to me.
