341  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: pirate payments list -- accounts paid: 23/459 on: September 03, 2012, 07:09:09 PM
Give me a break. You use the internet don't you? Do all of the shady things (I don't think we need examples) happening on the internet prevent you from using it?

For every scam, you should double your efforts to participate in two legitimate Bitcoin related businesses. Or would you rather give up an amazing tool because someone has decided to use it for something you don't like?

FYI: I'm on it.

But I wish it was that easy. The problem is once I start to do business I have other people involved some of which never heard of Bitcoin, and if they look it up, independently of what I tell them (what they do) and find it unsuited because of bad publicity I am fucked.
The next thing is that how society works, if this gets worse I could be guilty by association. Before that happens I'd deal in fiat, or join an effort to create another system. This hasn't happened yet so I'll stick to BTC, never the less I am pissed.
Not necessary just on pirate and the other scammers but on the idiots who are so blinded by greed that they fall for everything.

It is good to see that people are finally starting to realize that pirated40 did not just fuck those who invested in his scam but everyone who uses Bitcoin.
We all got fucked by this asshole pirateat40. Every btc miner, every btc enthusiast, every person who likes BTC.

BFL's problem is customers have to order, pay, wait, then receive(if BFL can actually deliever).
Normally, customers order, wait, receive, then pay.
I would like that too.  I understand they don't want to take the risk on these items and people not paying or any other issues but I would like the order and and then pay when its ready.  I wish they could go to an escrow account kind of thing similar to contracting trades people to do work on your home.

The story should have involved a cia agent in the passenger seat dressed as a cabbie in trainning, and when mentioning pirate the car screeches to a halt only to be suddenly swarmed by a passing by SWAT team, coming full force with guns drawn screaming at "HOW DO YOU KNOW SUBJECT TRENDON SHAVERS?"
Hey I got it, we can get all our money back.  Let's work on a script about this whole thing but really Hollywood it up.  Get Bruce Willis to play the ripped off boss to take down... I don't know... how about Kevin Smith from Clerks to play pirate and we can add in all the crazy drama we want.  We get the show and the money plus it is like Die Hard 4 without the jet and a little more believable.  Send me the treatment and I will go pitch and let you know what they say.

Man this whole situation is just going and going......

Umm, that's how Pirate was planning to repay everyone, only he was going to get Jared Leto to play himself.
Ah that would be the right amount of delusion

By the way comparing BFL to the most valuable company ever is really not fair.

IBM, at parity and at peak, was worth 2x Apple's market cap peak.

Not knowing the internals at BFL, but having seen their previous work, I can say they definitely have problems in the supply chain.  Whether those are their only problems with respect to delivery is beyond my ken.

It could be as bad as not having product development capability or at least the ability to estimate their capability.

Understood about IBM, I was just talking about the current market so I should have written now instead of ever.  The point I was trying to make is everyone has to start somewhere in business and posts like these are needed to help a company improve or help it die.  I just read too many of these bash on BFL posts and think people don't look at the whole picture.  There shipping is fine (packing could be better) but I agree with you that one of their problems is supply chain.  As they grow they will be able to manage this better but for now they are a small fish in a very big pond.  Yes I am a customer, do I think the price matches the quality no, do I understand that they are a start up yes, do the need to improve, yes but the real question is will they with the ASIC line?  We shale see.

Now i realize why locking a thread is a great idea. :-P

Apologies. I do indeed get carried away when I am confronted with silliness. It's a sickness.

Someone is always wrong on the internet.

Sundays are hard for me. I would really prefer any other day. There are some good taco shops right there on 101 by the beach. I am happy to set that up.

Taco shops sound like a cool idea, its going to be hard to get everyone there but I would drive on a Friday afternoon, Sat or Sun but any other day is to hard for me to leave work, drive and make it there without feeling totally drained along with having to drive back that night to go back to work.  Would like to do a meetup but like everyone else only some days are good.  Keep tossing out days, one is bound to hit.

Shipping BFL labs greatest weakness?

I see one big problem with BFL business model., when it takes 8 weeks to ship your product your leaving
a big gap for competition., right now they are their biggest enemy.
Even the way apple does their business they do very large shipping orders
and even when it's sold out high demand of shipping goes into place.

If BFL cant get their shipping production to 2-4 weeks i see this hurting them in the long run.

Shipping is not the problem.  Once the order is ready to go it goes and very quickly.  The problem is getting the order together and look I don't like it either but this is still a very high risk business we are all in.  BFL makes a product that most anyone can use and they took allot of time to make something that basically an idiot can use.  Yes we send our money in and wait and wait and wait some more but as you pointed out in your post that even the way apple does their business but I remember back in the apple II days there were some interesting issues at Apple.
Every small business has their issues and yes BFL may be the king of this market they are still a small business and so just like with bitcoins we take our risk with them and that their product is worth the money and the wait.  I run a business, it is not easy and could BFL do better sure but I bet that over time and as long as bitcoins continue to be the digital currency of choice they will get better.  I wish the whole world would be ready to go out of the box like apple is now but like any new venture their are growing pains.  I am just glad that I am getting in now and will be able to say back in the day I knew how it was with them just like I can say with apple.

By the way comparing BFL to the most valuable company ever is really not fair.  I am sure that if I had that much money on hand I would be sending installers to your house the next day once you ordered and item and I would charge you too.  So until you have a product for sale let's just let BFL focus on getting the ASIC gear out.
349  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Does BFL have any competition in the ASICs zone? on: September 02, 2012, 05:10:02 PM
A lot of talk by others but BFL is the only one selling or going to sell in the near future.  Just a mater of time before someone else pops out one.

I vote for the 9th in Carlsbad, where would be meet?  I say a place we can have a drink and or eat.  I don't know Carlsbad that well but somewhere we can chill by the beach with a beer and I am down for that.  Also (sorry to be so and this and that) can we make it afternoonish?  I's got to work in the morning  Grin.

I don't know anywhere around here that accepts bitcoin but i am way down to meet up here in north san diego county or orange county. If it was another month from now i would be able to just invite you over to the office.

whoa, can I buy your hat in person?

Yeah for sure. And if you wanted anything else off the site we could arrange that too, but more than anything I would just be stoked to meet some more bitcoiners.

Can you or anyone else make it to Carlsbad? 40min north of Diego

Sounds good but I can only meet up on weekends or Friday's after work.  I don't want to drag anyone my way unless you want to go on to Vegas otherwise the areas like San Diego or OC are nice enough to find a nice place to eat or sit out by the beach with a beer.

from now until dec 2, it's gradually going to increase to somewhere between $15 and $20.

+1 But not dec 2, more like Nov 20=BFL ASIC effect will be in full effect.  If I am wrong then I am  Grin

Ok, I'm ready to take this to the next level. I'm running 38c on 896.

Please share how.

Did you put them into the fridge or something Huh

I replaced the paste and screws on the heatsink. Then put a delta fan on, which seems to make a huge difference. I'm using a fan controller on it.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835213009

Ok, so something does not make sense to me, I get the paste and the delta fan but I really do see how that can get you to 38c on the devices or device.  Are you sure this is not another part of your formula you are leaving out.  I had some of my best singles with no case covers next to an AC unit and really could not get below 42c at 896.  I did not redo the paste or the different fan but still I think you would need one more item to your list to get to that level of cool.
358  Other / Off-topic / Re: BFL single revision level differences on: August 31, 2012, 04:56:29 AM
I took it totally out of the case yesterday and today noticed one of the copper fins on the upper heatsink was hung up on the corner screw.  That prevented the heatsink from forming a tight, flush union with the 2 chips (may have happened during shipment).  I bent the fin out of the way (yeah I should take a pic) and now the heatsink can free-float on the chips, as designed.  It runs a degree or 2 cooler now.

Yes, lots of user tweeks needed to make them run well.  I hope the SC's are a bit more quality in their production.   Grin

360  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Its Official Pirate Has Defaulted!! on: August 29, 2012, 03:55:55 AM

Maybe.. But watching over your shoulder for years to come aint a pretty thing.

Edited to add... I did not lend him a thin dime. I am just thinking how i would feel in his place. And that is shitting my pants.

I've known people who've scammed way more than pirate has who didn't go around looking over their shoulder.  Businesses fail every single day owing more than is owed to BS&T users and in most cases nothing of consequence happens to their operators.

If I was in pirate's shoes and I was planning on winding down operations in a legitimate manner, I would want to deal with the pass-through lenders directly, so I'm kind of surprised by his request because I wasn't expecting any legitimate moves by him at this point.

Quote
I think that based on what he wrote he is building a bankruptcy case so that if anyone does come back after assets or claims claw-backs that he had a record of what actions were taken and then he came to a settlement with each person listed for the best he could come up with.  I would expect that if the lists are turned in by Friday (and if they are not oh well, shit out of luck) that those folks will be sent back a counter offer to close out the debt.

I suspect something similar to be the case too.  If he can come to an agreement with his creditors, he can probably avoid total bankruptcy and any obligation to apply future earnings to the debts.
