341  Economy / Digital goods / Re: HiB Android #4 .2 BTC & up, Support the "Please accept bitcoin!" name! on: January 13, 2013, 02:30:20 PM
I just want to let you know that personally I don't aim to try to get highest on some donator's list. If Humble Bundle inc doesn't want(they complain about "legally dubious" and are with EFF's standpoint) my Bitcoins I'll give them to the developers of games I liked for each bundle. Humble Bundle inc. gets my 0.01 USD. AA one of the Eufloria(who's now busy with porting it to Android) devs showed interest in trying Bitcoin out, and recently I'm contacting the devs of Cave Story+.

Though if you really want to try to get highest on Humble Bundle Inc's donators list I wish you the best of luck!  Cool
342  Other / Beginners & Help / More on Cave Story+ and one more message to Humble Bundle inc. on: January 13, 2013, 01:51:44 PM
I continue playing Cave Story+. No word from Nicalis, now I contact Pixel, Cave Story's Developer.
Quote
Subject: I have 1 Bitcoin for you if you want it for your work on Cave Story+
Quote
Message: Thx for your great game cave story+ is my favourite in HIB7! I have 1
BTC for you for my appreciation if you want it.
1 BTC is ~1295 JPY and around ~13-14 USD and ~10-11 Euro.
I appreciate this game which was part of HIB7.

Now I sent another message to Humble Bundle inc.
Quote
Message: Thanks for your reply. I thank you for providing your/Humble Bundle inc's view on the matter. As a way to not let my donation stay at 0.01 USD and 0.00 BTC I try to contact developers of games which are part of HIB who may consider accepting my Bitcoins.
I had a positive response from one of the Eufloria developers but they have not yet requested the BTC, and I understand both your concern and anyone else's who is not too familiar with this simple pairing of two old technologies that were invented before year 2000, into one which is today known since 2009 as Bitcoin. Bitcoin is in its core a pair of numbers in reality, which people through the use of Bitcoin software find valuable. If that is considered a crime, counting from 1 to 10 could as well be considered a crime.

I'm not expecting you to accept Bitcoin but as it is now ,and it is unfortunate as I would like to give parts of what I share to Eufloria developers and others, I can only donate to you in this small symbolic amount. I thank you for your efforts and if anyone of you would like to try Bitcoin out I am ready to send you some amount for you to experiment with.
So in short I explain why my amount will stay at symbolic 0.01 USD and also my own willingness to help them learn about Bitcoin if they so want to try it out some time. Though I added some stuff about counting from 1 to 10 in the last minute and I quite regret it now, but done is done, damn.
343  Other / Beginners & Help / HIB4FA and HIB 7 status on: January 10, 2013, 11:02:52 PM
For Humble Indie Bundle 7 I once again boycotted the USD, but today I contacted Nicalis who made Cave Story+(a great retro style game which I quite enjoy!) and told them that I like their game and that 1 Bitcoin will go to them if they're interested.
So for
HIB4FA: 0.01 USD and 1 BTC for Eufloria devs(Thx for a great game!)
HIB7: 0.01 USD. No BTC takers! Fine with me, I've donated my bitcoin elsewhere, actually to a free open source game which had nothing to do with the bundle, though it had to do 100% with indie game developers  Cheesy

Anyone else had any luck contacting any game devs of the Humble Indie Bundles?
344  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: txt4coins.net - Premium SMS service on: January 10, 2013, 07:42:56 PM
I just want to add that the price currently for the service of 0.015 BTC is totally ok for me. It is somewhat more expensive than what I pay in SEK for the same SMS using my carrier Telia. On txt4coins I pay 1.47 SEK while from my carrier I pay 1.25 to 1.28 SEK.

The price is very close or strongly close to what I pay with SEK and you can call me stupid but I'm really willing to pay a little extra for being able to use Bitcoin.
Keep up the good work!  Cheesy

Just adding a little note: Do you know about Bitcoin Friday? Maybe it won't fit for your service but just wanted to let you know just in case you didn't have time to look it up.
345  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-01-08 forbes.com - All Money Is Fiat Money on: January 09, 2013, 07:54:56 PM
If we take the definition made here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_money then Bitcoin is only fiat money if program code is interpreted as being "law". Do you agree or disagree or have an opinion on:
"Fiat money is money that derives its value from government regulation or law."

Now if it only means law made by a government, then by that definition Bitcoin is not a fiat currency. by the Wikipedia article's definition that I quoted.
346  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Humble Indie Bundle - Purchasing with Bitcoin? on: January 01, 2013, 02:31:08 AM
Regarding "Humble Bundle for Android 4" I contacted AA, a developer of Eufloria and I was asked if I would still like to give 1 Bitcoin(I had offered in a previous email to give a Bitcoin) as he would like to give Bitcoin a try. That's freakin awesome that somebody of a game of the bundle is interested, though he said he's not ready yet to spend time trying Bitcoin out as he's helping in porting Eufloria to Android.

I donated the same amount 0.01 USD for the latest bundle(HIB7 which will end in about ~45 hours). I want direct support or at least support from game devs of some of the bundle's games.(see above)
I didn't post the 'official standpoint' so here are parts of the reply I got for HIB4(Android):
Quote
The EFF has a great statement on BitCoin that closely follows our feelings toward BitCoin, which is available here: https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2011/06/eff-and-bitcoin

Quote
We like BitCoin and would love to accept it, but after contacting the EFF and a lawyer specializing in this sort of thing, we are not comfortable with the plethora of untested issues and legal traps, which would be a major distraction for us. We have been in contact with a number of bitcoin startups, and will be monitoring the landscape carefully.
Ok there's the official message. I'm continuing my 0.01 USD donation. The people I contact when I offer my Bitcoins are the developers of games(which I like!) which are made available through the bundle.

I had mentioned earlier about from the moment they accept Bitcoin I will give them lots of money. I take that back actually as I try to contact individual developers of the games that they release, and give them the Bitcoins and in that way I feel I've "paid my debt", so this idea of being in debt is no longer an issue for me. Of course once they start accepting Bitcoin I'll buy the bundles from them and stop this kind of "1 cent USD boycott".
347  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Buying games with Bitcoin - Does Desura have an official standpoint on Bitcoin? on: December 17, 2012, 08:29:47 PM
tjohej, now I see it was you
Yes, I'm a fan of and running Desurium.

I've made a group on Desura called "Bitcoin" http://www.desura.com/groups/bitcoin since there was none. Please post your comments.
348  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Buying games with Bitcoin - Does Desura have an official standpoint on Bitcoin? on: December 15, 2012, 07:56:18 PM
Thanks for your input.
Yes they skip paypals fees. On the other hand I can do like you did. I say I answer any questions willingly.
349  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Buying games with Bitcoin - Does Desura have an official standpoint on Bitcoin? on: December 15, 2012, 04:20:19 PM
This is not the optimal way to update this forum thread but here goes:
Somebody has already made that question and the official answer from Desura.com was NO.

http://www.desura.com/groups/desura/forum/thread/bitcoin-support (thread got locked)

They don't support Bitcoin and they don't plan to it looks like. Don't give up hope though. Some individual game developers might be interested and that may be the next step. I've done this myself contacting a dev of an indie game who seemed interested, though don't expect them to know about it. This one asked me "Where do I register to get Bitcoins?", right, see? Decentralisation is a utopia for many people, they simply don't believe it is possible.
350  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Internet Archive, 3-1 match right now, accepts bitcoin on: December 15, 2012, 10:58:31 AM
The Internet Archive is pretty awesome really. I did some work to convert Torley Wong's(sorry, no connection to Bitcoin) music library which was licensed CC-BY-SA 3.0(not my favourite license but still it allows legal download) http://archive.org/details/TorleyWong-TheFinalSelection---230DiverseMp3sConvertedToVorbis

Yeah, I also appreciate the wayback machine. Is also useful sometimes when replacing rotten/broken links on wikipedia.

Here it's possible to check donations in realtime https://blockchain.info/address/17gN64BPHtxi4mEM3qWrxdwhieUvRq8R2r
Here you can confirm 100% that it is the same address so you can be at least 99% sure you are sending to the right address: https://archive.org/about/faqs.php#311

I donated 1 BTC. Now that webcitation.org is going down it seems the wayback machine will be the best way to keep wikipedia links from link rot.
351  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Buying games with Bitcoin - Does Desura have an official standpoint on Bitcoin? on: December 15, 2012, 10:49:44 AM
I posted a message here: http://www.desura.com/groups/desura/forum/thread/desuracom-official-stance-on-purchases-with-bitcoin
I doubt I posted it in the right section but if you find a better place I can move it there.

There is also a poll attached to it. 1. "Yes I would like Bitcoin as an option" 2. "No I don't" and 3. "I don't care".
Quote
Hello,
Have you considered accepting Bitcoin(a currency that includes the technologies proof of work, p2p and digital signatures) for purchases of video games on your site?
Cheers!

P.S. I'm adding a poll to see if there's an interest from existing users of Desurium. I do not know myself since I asked in a Bitcoin forum about if they use Desura and I got 1 reply so far, so I'm trying my luck here. Critisism and rejection but also praise and love for this digital currency are all greatly appreciated, though only in relation to Desura.com.

Also what do you think of the message? I'm fascinated by the Bitcoin technology so that's why I add words like proof of work, digital signatures(I have to stop myself from writing "Public key cryptography") and the P2P network that shares all the proofs of work called blocks.
Though I suspect these wordings can confuse people, or what do you think?

I didn't know about this! Though now I do. : https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Public_relations
352  Economy / Goods / Re: Desura and OnLive Game Keys CHEAP on: December 13, 2012, 04:06:17 PM
Have you made any effort to ask Desura what their standpoint on Bitcoin is? I'm thinking of doing this myself some time, maybe an email or a post on their forums.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=130597.0 -> "Buying games with Bitcoin - Does Desura have an official standpoint on Bitcoin?"

BTC2? Please?
It would be worth 100 BTC if Desura officially accepted Bitcoin.
353  Bitcoin / Project Development / Buying games with Bitcoin - Does Desura have an official standpoint on Bitcoin? on: December 13, 2012, 12:11:18 PM
Hello all. Has anyone ever made contact with the Desura people about their position or if they would like to accept Bitcoin?
Posting this as I find few to no references on bitcointalk about it.

Note: To unite all gaming threads I just link to a general gaming thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=17038.0

For the moment I'll post some references on bitcointalk from a user or users who have done some effort or claim to have done some, to contact the Desura company:

Unless you're sure you want to reply, please consider starting a new topic.
I'm sure I want to reply. Now...

One of the reasons I think that Jamendo.com ain't being honest is because they held my money for a very long time before they passed it on to the artist I donated to!
I sent a donation in 2009 to the artist StrangeZero using the donate button on Jamendo.com and I had to wait 9 months and 2 weeks for it to arrive. Is this anyone else's experience as well? Of course nowadays I wouldn't use Euros or Dollars to donate but Bitcoins.

Is there any reason you think we should let Jamendo.com be the 'middleman' in donations? I advise contact the artists, and ask if they want to accept Bitcoin. Now for Jamendo I think it may be better donating to them separately.
I've contacted 1 artist so far. I have a vague memory that some artist on Jamendo accepted Bitcoins, but I think I didn't pay much attention because I didn't like what they released. It was not Bert Jerred?(calm guitar music)

Right! I posted a message on the Jamendo forum. http://forum.jamendo.com/index.php?p=/discussion/12000962/donating-in-bitcoinsbtc-to-artists-on-jamendo
I've also contacted 2 artists about Bitcoin. I only contact artists whose music I like and whom I may consider donating to.
355  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: WHY CANT I POST NEW TOPIC OR REPLY ANYWHERE APART FROM HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! on: December 09, 2012, 10:15:07 AM
please explain, someone  Huh
By the way this is an excellent place to post your questions, your praise and anything else you want to express about Bitcoin!
So for a start why don't you tell us a bit about Bitcoin, like...
How did you learn about Bitcoin? (a friend, internet browsing?)
Then also do you know how Bitcoin works? Are you curious to learn about how it works?(what role does the blockchain play in Bitcoin? What is a digital signature?)
Personally I learnt about Bitcoin when looking up a system called Ripple Monetary System, during that time I learnt about something called Bitcoin, but I didn't know what it was so I looked it up. I also studied computer networks for 2 years so there we learnt about Public key Cryptography and that helped me understand Bitcoin. Though I learnt about proof of work on my own which is also part of Bitcoin.
356  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: So, teh ruleze sais I need post here... on: December 05, 2012, 01:19:35 PM
I have been involved with the Bitcoin Community for over a year.
Then you must know how Bitcoin works?
What does proof of work and public key cryptography have to do with Bitcoin? Are Bitcoins encrypted and signed or are they only encrypted or only signed, and why?

When I send Bitcoins to you, are they stored on your computer or are they stored somewhere else, and if yes, where?

You don't have to answer these, but you said it yourself you've been around for about 1 year and you sounded very self-confident, so I got curious of your knowledge and if you know Bitcoin the cryptocurrency.
357  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: txt4coins.net - Premium SMS service on: December 03, 2012, 09:14:29 PM
I just want to say that this is the first service where I really see some use for my Bitcoins. Now that I see that my Bitcoin balance starts going down I'm beginning to like it(that I have a use for them that I find fulfils a real day-to-day need!).
Note: By the way if there is any of your precious time left to look into the multilingual Greek issue that I had with an sms that I sent in Greek but where everything turned up as question marks, here's some Greek that I hope may help in solving it: Καλημέρα παιδιά! Cheesy

Great service!
358  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: txt4coins.net - Premium SMS service on: November 28, 2012, 11:35:40 PM
Ok, this isn't a huge problem for me though as I can write Greek in latin letters as well, and that's how I send my sms'es for the moment.
A few moments ago I queued an sms and I sent the bitcents required to pay for the sms but it says that it has not arrived yet.
My payment has already been included in 5 blocks at the moment. All my previous payments have worked but not this one.

Though now it's recognized the payment. I was just worried that so many blocks had passed and that it would cancel my sms.
Now though it worked and that's great!  Smiley
359  Other / Beginners & Help / Since block 209956 we'll soon reach block 210000 on: November 28, 2012, 09:14:41 AM
Maybe there is already a thread about this. 44*10 minutes. 440 minutes divided by 60. In 7.3 hours. The clock here is now 10.12 so statistically it would be completed in 18:00 in my country. Now this is just rough math.

So in short: In about 8 hours block 210000 will have been created. Is it the 210001th block that will have a value of 25 bitcoins while block 210000 will have the value of 50, or will both have a value of 25 BTC?
360  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: should we make a bitcointalk TOR hidden service? on: November 23, 2012, 07:38:55 PM
all PMs should be required to be PGP encrypted, since I believe PMs are the property of the sender+receiver and no-one else has the right to read them. i'm sure there are many other privacy increasing features that could be added as well[snip]
Hmm, but that could be done on a voluntary basis. Let's say you wanna receive PM's encrypted. What you can do is post a link to your public key in your signature, then ask people to send you PM's only GPG/PGP encrypted and maybe signed. That way those who want encryption and signatures can do it. Those who don't want to do it, they just don't participate in this. If you like you can start a separate topic like "using PGP/GPG for PMs. Post if you want to participate" then people can post who are interested to PM with encryption and/or signatures using public key cryptography and then it's settled. What do you think about it and everyone else what do you think about this?

Quote from: btct
Tor hidden services are incredibly slow, and there's no point for a legal site to be on Tor.
Using Tor is like using curtains on your windows. You don't necessarily hide something illegal but the reason you use curtains is to maintain your privacy. Same goes for Tor.
