No one's buying an S5 for $100 in five months. In five months they'll be junk. S5s are currently going for $160 on the forums now.
i wouldn't say they will be junk there is always a market for them. No new hardware is/has been announced and validated so right now s7 and s5 are tier 1 and 2 as far as latest and greatest. sure the rising diff and 1/2ing will impact them but those in free or super super cheap power area will still use them or those that want to throw them at the solo lottery. look at the USB miners that are still made people snap those up instantly.

Hmm.. Should we be worried about this? I'm pretty sold on the S7 and i think it's the phone i'm going to get. I know this sounds funny, but since it's waterproof, can we just wet it to get the temperature down.
about the only wetting you could do is to submerge it into mineral oil, and then leave it there forever. the S7 is not watertight as it has 2 fans on either side to move air through the unit to cool it. to cool the s7 you need to remove the heat it produces and provide a cooler intake charge.

compared to the s7 heat output the output from the s5 is like a warm summer breeze.
i got 4 of those fan shrouds for the s7s i have and added an 8foot ac/heat pipe to them to remove the heat from the immediate area. the outputs dump right next to a fan to further move the hot air away.
will post a few pics tonight when i get home of the setup.

This block is pushing 275%
It could be the winning high CDF for the month!
lets hope that 275 is the high. another 500 block so soon would really hurt.

I know if it was me, and I put months in developing and creating a pool, I would not want to simply merge with another pool. I am sure that is the way he feels, it would be months of hard work gone. Plus, it is not a bad thing to have more pools. With less diversity and less competition, the bigger pools, can take more and more away from the miners, leaving us no choice but to suck it up or go solo. What ideally should happen, is slush and antpool should see a significant drop in hash, from more miners switching over to bcmonster, bitminter, johnnybravos pool and others. I am trying to source 2 more S7's myself to get up and running at my hosted facility to increase the hash here.
I may suck to throw away all the work done to set up the pool but its also a learning experience that can be used in the future. While it would be nice to see people leave from those large pools and come to a smaller one the reality is it is going to be hard to steal them away. Those at the larger pools are used to get paid X btc every day and for them to come to a smaller pool where the payouts are less frequent is a big step. if we can constantly find blocks then others will start joining until then we are just asking people to hope that a block is found and that the reward is greater then the money for electricity/rental power. Unless the pool grows hashing power it may take to long to find blocks and people will either go back to previous pool or find a new larger pool. Sometime a merger is the only way to grow and not end up a thing of the past.

I would love for us to do 90 days with -0.5% in diff and +20% in price.
I would be much happier with a significant decrease in difficulty. Any negative is nice, but really -0.5% is not noticeable. Let's get some > -10% adjustments and then we're talking. I'd love to see diff get back down below 100G and still maintain a +$400 coin price. I just got an S5 and am considering pointing it here for a chance at the Avalon give away. I'm afraid if I won, though, that I couldn't afford the electricity to run it, lol. Im sure you could find the money for power if needed ramen for dinner...lol or perhaps a hosted solution.

March is going to be an interesting month with diff going down. (crosses fingers) and the new contest. would be nice to strike a block in march and at least have my hat in the ring for the A6 but im just glad to be in the pool with everyone. in the end we are all winners as each block brings in the fat loot. although an A6 would add more heat to the already warm area im trying to remove heat from. might have to upgrade from my carpet drying barrel fan to something more industrial.

double edged sword issue. Need more hash power to grow/find blocks but miners wont commit hash power unless there is base hash power to start with.
only thing you can really do is what you are doing now, advertise the pool as much as you can and keep the rental going it might not need to be 1ph every time maybe do 500 for twice as long. or work with the current pool members to gather some btc to get an extended rental going to spread the impact of the cost. that 4th block will fall and those that are on the pool will see the payout and want more. gotta give them that initial fix to get hooked and then want to come back for more and will bring their friends.
it may be suck to do/tedious but perhaps joining with bravo might be the best option to get the pool to grow. once this pool or his hits a block suspend mining on the the pool till the other hits then combine forces. (just a thought)

This is a great way to start my Monday!
waking up to that block notification icon is always a good feeling. but checking the emails and seeing 4 blocks found overnight is even better. definitely not a bad way to start a Monday.
so wheres the block we have been looking it seems forever. its gotta drop sometime soon.
always good to wake up to that notification on your phone showing blocks. its even better when its more then 1. its a good start for the day now we need more.
that's what im hoping for. my rental finished about 2pm Friday afternoon. lets get those blocks.
lets hope your prediction is right for Saturday for the block. need some coins to get some rental power going for the pool. cant let bcmonster and krisgt30 carry all the weight with the high power rentals.
Well it's Friday here now. Bumped up to 500 TH on my rental. Maybe we can make it block Friday... Do eggs for breakfast count as chicken sacrifice?
it only counts as a partial sacrifice. gotta eat a raw chicken leg for the full effect.

the antminers are all plug and play.
Now if you are looking at the software page for updates then dont. hit the little red X at the top right of your window and you will be thankful. Several units/people have ended up turning their units into expensive paper weights because they updated to the wrong software.

2 choices really.
1) sell them
2) mine a sha256 alt coin

What would setting S3+ difficulty look like with just an address? do I add it to worker or password? I'm sorry if it has been posted before I did make an effort to look for it, but there's so much to read through.
Go to https://www.kano.is, all the directions are right there, easy to read and follow what to do. To mine your S3+ to just and address, use the following in the miner config page: stratum+tcp://stratum.kano.is:3333 {your BTC address here}_{any worker name here} x You cannot configure difficulty if you only mine to an address and really there is no need, especially with just an S3+, the pool will adjust it for you. honestly your better of just signing up with a user name. Everything become so much simpler to use and more stats are available with a user name vs btc address.

Just received an e-mail from ZoomHash...oh boy! With the code, they list the Avalon 6 @ $999.99. This is a joke, right? I am not laughing!! CapnBDL ya they seem to be way overpriced on everything they have. Hmm looks like the email they charge 100 more then the webstore.

That solely depend on the laws regarding income, taxes and Crypto in your country. In Canada, its not legal tender, so i have to declare capital gains regarding it. For instance if i buy 100 Bitcoin over the course of a year for 40000 and sell for a total of 40500$ then i have a 500$ that i should declare as an "Other Income".
same as here. If a profit is made on it then that is taxed. otherwise i look at bitcoin the same as buying stocks its not money till its cashed out or sold.
