If this is a bug in the system, then thank you for being an important corner case for them to test with, sorry about having to be a test subject

I already reported the problem on the 0.7.1 thread ( here ). I did the upgrade with confidence because I never experienced any problems in doing it until now. Next time I will do several tests before upgrading again. Also I am going to take a backup of the sane blockchain after it finishes to download it again, so should it happen again for any reason, I will not need to download it entirely.

Currently, backups of the blockchain have been done without stopping the bitcoind process and it seems that it leads to integrity problems. The problem doesn't apply to the wallet.dat because I export it with the dedicated command before backing it up.

Hy Pyramining,

you can report bugs directly to the developers issue list here:

Bitcoin version 0.7.1 is now available from:
  http://sourceforge.net/projects/bitcoin/files/Bitcoin/bitcoin-0.7.1/

This is a bug-fix minor release.

Please report bugs using the issue tracker at github:
  https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/issues

this way they will be directly in their todo list.

Also, I read your post in this thread, seems like you are running your own server.

This raises the question how backups are handled.

Are all Account informations and the Wallet backed up on a regular basis?

Why did you change your sockpuppet?

Was it already filthy?
3403  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Economy... Where are the legit merchants? on: October 22, 2012, 07:50:41 PM
I seem hard pressed to see where there's a solid exchange of this currency between consumers and retail/service businesses.

See, back in 1991, an engineer at CERN was sharing with his peers and anyone else who would listen this invention of his from a couple years earlier.  You might not recognize it, ... but here's what it looked like:

It wasn't an instant success -- for content producers it was more difficult to set up and use than alternatives, and the experience was less than ideal for the content consumers.

Of course, that is the WWW before the graphical browser arrived -- the exact same thing you are using to view these words right now.

That's where Bitcoin is yet.  It is known the potential of a decentralized digital currency.  It works as a cheaper, faster and better international wire transfer (for transferring the currency BTC), it works as an alternative to Western Union,  it works for retail payments ... like for this cupcake shop:

or for a cab driver:

What Bitcoin doesn't come with is a guarantee or a big corporate backer.  Neither did Tim Berners-Lee's world wide web.  It took a while before the right combination of things came together (several years later, incidentally) before the technology changed our world ... in a huge way.

So, does Bitcoin today have any large "legit" merchants?  No, there's no national Starbucks chain yet where bitcoins are accepted.  Does that mean there won't be in the future?   I wouldn't bet on it.

Wow Stephen, I'm so going to steal this explanation one day.

Most women/girls have a favourite accessoire that they wear often and that is different from the current trend, a neclair, earings, a pair of shoes, a handbag etc.

Watch her stile for a view days until you find out what it is.

Then make a compliment on that specific thing. Note, you must speak the truth, nearly all people notice when you talk about why you like something and you lie. Look until you find something you really like (and not her boobs)

I am afraid I have to restore the previous version, 0.7.1 is not stable enough. I have to keep the site offline a bit more.

I wonder if other BTC websites have the same issue? Or maybe this is an issue because you use such a huge amount of addresses.

Anyway, you should probably report you experiences to the developers, or at last post it here:

  • Autom. Bestückungslinie, incl. autom. verlöten.
  • Das schwierigste, einen autom. End of Line Tester

Seriously Mucus, the only two lines that have some informational value are those two:

Impressive, so he accidental made 1/3 of his random lines have informational value.

Come on Mucus, you can do better. (or worse, seems like how serious you take this whole 0 evidence speculations).

How To Be In Business Forever: Week Four

Quote from: Article
This is my final post for my Skillshare class on Sustainability.

I will not do office hours this evening but I will do one final office hours next Monday, Oct 29th, from 6pm to 6:30pm. The link to attend that office hours is here.

For this final post, I want to focus on the Business Model Canvas and how to think about sustainability in the context of creating your business model. In order to talk about that, I went ahead and created a Business Model Canvas of my own using bmfiddle.com.

My Business Model Canvas is for a Bitcoin Bank.

If you think about banks in the real world, they are high cost affairs, with huge fixed costs including large branch networks. I am always shocked by how many bank branches I pass in a five to six block walk in NYC. The way these banks sustain these high costs is with large fees for depositors and high spreads between their cost of funds and the interest rates they charge borrowers.

So in thinking about how to create a sustainable Bitcoin Bank, I focused on a few key things:

1) keep the operating costs super low except in areas where there is a unique and important consumer value proposition

2) make it easy to access the bank and your balances within the context of low operating costs

3) keep the fees charged to customers as low as possible

4) allow third parties to build busineses on top of our business

The result is a super simple business model. My Bitcoin Bank would charge a very low monthly fee per Bitcoin deposited and nothing else other than pass alongs for any costs incurred in moving bitcoins in and out of the bank on behalf of our customers. We would not have any branches. We would operate via simple, easy to use mobile and web interfaces. We would keep our operating costs super low with the exception of one area where we would make a large and ongoing investment - in hiring and retaining a top notch and super experienced security team. We would allow third parties to create related businesses on top of our API. Services like lending, investing, etc would not be provided by our bank but by third parties who access our customers via our API.

I believe this business would be highly sustainable because it would focus on one very simple value proposition - security. And in return it would charge the lowest fees possible in order to make and sustain a profit. It would make it very difficult for others to price lower fees for storage and security. And it would benefit from the ecosystem of third party value added service providers operating on top of its API.

Here are some decisions I made in order to increase the sustainability of the business:

1) A focus on very low fees to our customers so that it will be difficult for competitors to undercut our offering.

2) A decision to focus on only one thing, security, and allow others to build additional services for our customers. This allows us to be best in class at the one thing we choose to do and it means our customers can choose to pay for additional services or not, and always on their own terms.

3) A cost model that keeps operating costs as low as possible in all areas other than security, which is our key consumer value proposition.

So when you are finalizing your Business Model Canvas for your final project for this course, think about what your key value proposition is and who is your primary customer and focus on that. And think about what you can do in your revenue model to make it so that it will be hard for others to come in and undercut you. And think about your cost model and how to keep it as low as possible while allowing your company to be best in class at what it does.

Please submit your final Business Model Canvas project here by Thursday, Oct 25th, 11pm EDT. I will pick out a bunch that I like and review them next week on office hours.

That will be the final event in this course. I hope you have enjoyed this class/series. I think sustainability is an important and overlooked aspect of business and it needs to built more tightly into business thinking.

Naja, Verkauf halt gecancelt ansonsten keine Schlechten Erfahrungen damit.

You Guys are so awesome.

Congratulations and huge success.

And don't see that PayPal guys as competition. They are doing this way longer I'm pretty sure there are still things you can learn from them (and then improve and apply it).

Edit:

Your text on the page, nice:

BitInstant LLC is the leading bridge between traditional banking infrastructure and the new and developing Bitcoin infrastructure. The company makes it fast and easy for individuals to transfer USD balances between various currency exchanges, Bitcoin services, and payment providers both in the US and in many countries around the world.
3417  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 50% hashing power = unknown... are u scared yet? on: October 22, 2012, 09:20:35 AM
Come down, a big part is only the ETH Zuerich www.ethz.ch/.

And they are not mining, they are simply running a (super) node (IP: 82.130.102.160) with their University Internet access. Their Node has nearly 1500 connections to other nodes, including a direct connection to blockchain.info.

Therefore they are able do distribute fund blocks faster through the network than the miner himself.

See the big orange spot here: https://blockchain.info/nodes-globe?series=topBlockRelay that's them.

So everything is alright.

Wow, quite a nice link Smiley

Just wondering,

1- Mining on a pool does not count as a node... true ?

2- Running a bitcoin client 24/7 with 8 connections, this is a node ?    ( If yes, I can see my lonely tiny blue bar on that cute globe Smiley   quite interesting and funny ! )

I'll enjoy an answer to both question (  I presume : yes and yes)!  Cheesy

Yes and yes. (But the pool itself is a node)

But on that globe you see only nodes that have a direct connection to blockchain.info. Its pretty unlikely, that you have one if you only have 8 connections. I have between 30 and 50 (always somewhere between that) and have never seen my IP in blockchains IP list.
3418  Local / Deutsch (German) / Re: Angebliche Betrugsfälle bei Bitcoin.de? on: October 22, 2012, 09:16:12 AM

I am very new to bitcoin. I have a blockchain a mtgox acct and I check it at blockchain. I've been going to free bitcoin sites and I've been getting a few bytecoins but it seems as though there is a lot going out and I'm not sending them. I looked at the "reverse taint" that shows where they are going and click on the "who is" link and it always seems to go to a site Hurricane Electric. Can anyone explain this to me?

OK, I would like to help you, but I don't rally understand your problem.

I have a blockchain a mtgox acct and I check it at blockchain.

Do you mean you have a MTGox account and using this as your wallet?

I've been going to free bitcoin sites and I've been getting a few bytecoins Bitcoins but it seems as though there is a lot going out and I'm not sending them. I looked at the "reverse taint" that shows where they are going and click on the "who is" link and it always seems to go to a site Hurricane Electric. Can anyone explain this to me?

If so, how do you know your send address? And MTGox is using your receive address only to identify the coins as yours and after that sending them probably to an cold wallet to put them save. As long as your account balance stays stable you don't need to worry.

The BTC are not send to Hurricane Electric.

Hurricane Electric is probably just a hoster and therefore you see their IP (But I don't know for sure what they are).
