3421  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Senator Ted Cruz to announce presidential bid Monday 3-23-15 on: March 26, 2015, 04:23:07 PM
Ted Cruz recruits from the Iowa Liberty Movement

Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, whose path to the Republican nomination requires a breakout performance in Iowa, has quickly recruited more than a dozen party leaders for his statewide campaign, who are to be announced in coming days, according to people told of the choices.

Most significantly, Mr. Cruz has peeled away three leaders of the Libertarian faction in the state, known as the Liberty movement, who are the base of Senator Rand Paul’s support in Iowa. They included state Senator Jason Shultz, who endorsed Representative Ron Paul for president in 2012; and two former members of the state Republican Party’s central committee, Joel Kurtinitis and Chad Steenhoek.

“The assumption of lot of people has been that the Liberty movement would roll over and support Senator Paul,’’ Mr. Kurtinitis said. “We’re a movement probably more than anything that’s noted for critical thinking and a rebellious streak.’’

He said Mr. Cruz, who announced his candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination on Monday, appealed to three important constituencies in Iowa: evangelical Christians, Libertarians and Tea Party activists. His wife, Kelsey Kurtinitis, a board member of Personhood Iowa, an antiabortion group, is also joining the Cruz campaign, as one of 15 or so volunteer leaders who will most likely take the title of state co-chairman and co-chairwomen, Mr. Kurtinitis said.

Mr. Cruz, as of this week, had only a single paid staff member in Iowa, Bryan M. English, a former aide to Representative Steve King. Mr. English was hastily adding dates to the calendar for Mr. Cruz to appear in Iowa, where he has visited less often than other 2016 hopefuls and has done almost no retail campaigning.

This is why I don't want him running, but if he 'steals' some votes from Scott Walker that is fine.
Rand Paul needs to make a strong showing no matter how large the field, but we don't need too many economic conservatives fighting each other.

Any "libertarian" who joins Cruz's campaign was never a TRUE SCOTSMAN to begin with!
3422  Other / Politics & Society / Re: France plane crash: No survivors expected, French President says on: March 26, 2015, 04:19:18 PM
just saw this on the news today. my full condolences to the families of the missing passengers.

you'd think that the more advanced our technologies are, the less accident will happen. but for some reason we have a lot of plane crashes these days.

I think there are less plane crashes relative to the number of flights than there have been in the past. There are just many more flights now than there used to be.

Sad story. Yes, the number of flights is definitely higher - but no where close to the amount of regular traffic, not sure, I just think it's hard to make comparisons as people often do (not you). Also, while some people can miraculously survive a traffic accident, survivors of plane crashes are a very, very rare occurrence.

Well think about the speeds involved. The difference in kinetic energy of hitting a solid object at 60 mph (or less) vs. 600 mph is enormous, plus cars are engineered to protect the passengers as much as possible with devices that lessen the impact (seat belts, airbags, crumple zones, steel frames built around the seats), vs. planes which cannot do much to lessen such an enormous impact. I'm not surprised at all that the vast majority of people involved in air crashes die. The forces involved are just too great to protect against effectively.

Jaysabi, I am willing to put my real name here and my permanent contact info.

Will you accept my challenge to do this same?

Because I want to make sure I can call you out when all this comes true and see what your reaction is then.

How are you going to feel when everything I have written comes true? Honestly? Will you feel any shame for being a dumb-ass?

I remember you from the discussion of Obama's take-over plan for the internet, a.k.a. net neutrality regulation. You are a socialist pig. Your type of thinking dies hard in chaos, deprivation, and mega-death.

Btw, I see another thread on this topic:

Story is at Redflag site, doesn't seem to be loading.
As well on some of the political discussion sites I've used, threads speaking of government corruption and related I've seen deleted.  You can use google cache to access some stuff that is down or has been removed.

This site http://www.redflagnews.com/headlines/breaking-several-admirals-and-generals-accusing-obama-of-treason ?
They accuse Obama of being a communist!! xD I don't think they know what that means lol.
I didn't read everything but at least the arming of groups that are said to be terrorists isn't new. You need to change a lot more than the president for that to change. : /

Lol, you're gonna be posting on the internet that the global EMP and nuclear war somehow managed not to destroy? You're more delusional than I first thought.

Oh, you're one of those conspiratards from the Obummer's gonna ruin the internet thread? Nice new name you got there, your bullshit makes a lot more sense now. Hey, how's the disintegration of the internet been treating you since your worst nightmare has come true? When are my rates going up and when is Obama gonna break all the internets? I can't believe it hasn't happened already!1!!
3424  Other / Politics & Society / Re: California lawyer seeks to put "shoot the gays" proposal on 2016 ballot on: March 26, 2015, 03:24:04 PM
However, the measure is unlikely to reach voters, as the California supreme court can intervene to prevent measures that violate the state constitution from reaching the ballot.

...

Once a sponsor has paid the required fee, the attorney general is directed under California law to prepare a circulating title and 100-word summary of the initiative before sending it to the secretary of state’s office for the signature-gathering period. The proposal would then need to collect at least 356,000 valid signatures within 180 days to qualify for the ballot, which is no easy task. It’s at that point that the supreme court can step in and keep the measure from appearing on the 2016 ballot.

Here's the most important part of the article. I find it unlikely 356,000 people will put their name down in the public record as being so openly murderous. On the off chance there are that many horrible people, I would fully expect the California Supreme Court to step in and block this on the very obvious grounds that murder is unquestionably unconstitutional.

Lara, along with members of the legislature’s LGBT caucus, filed a formal complaint with the state bar against McLaughlin on the grounds that attorneys are supposed to demonstrate “good moral character”.

But some good may come out of this in that this attorney is disbarred.  Smiley

The ETA is 2017 to 2019 for start of full blown war, chaos, and a global pandemic also. Armstrong's reliable cyclical models are all pointing to this.

Oh good, as long as there's a reliable cyclical model to base on this on. For a second, I was worried this was ridiculous.

3427  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian Fighters within reach of Denmark/Sweden Air Space.. AGAIN! on: March 25, 2015, 04:42:20 PM
Russian Fighter planes flew in international Air space around Gotland and Bornholm.
The Russian fighters disabled their transponderes to avoid detection.

Danish and Italian Fighters where sent to intercept.

Cant find source on BBC.

But was found on Danish news site.

This comes only after a few days where russia threatned Denmark because we were upgrading our missile shield with the US on our Ships.

Thoughts?

~Hamuki

Oh, give me a break!

And how is it different from American airplanes flying in international (and oftentimes venturing into Russian) airspace?
This is just presstitute hysteria again, a repeat of that alleged "almost hit", when in reality the planes were flying very far apart.
And check geography - Russia has access to the Baltic sea - it's not something that is exclusive to Danes or Swedes.

Also, Russia didn't threaten Denmark, it informed about a standard procedure, when it comes to installation of hardware, threatening Russian security (balance of power).

You are Pro-Russian so cant really blame you for your statement.
But 100 meters between a fighter and a civilian aircraft that has no idea that there is other planes around them is very dangerous.

First, I like to classify myself as pro-sanity and pro-truth. If Russia does something wrong, I'll be the first to condemn it.

Second, read this:

http://www.thelocal.se/20141214/reports-sas-plane-involved-in-airspace-drama
Quote
After initially denying an SAS plane was involved in the incident, a spokesperson for the company confirmed to Swedish news agency TT that it was an aircraft belonging to the airline.

"In this particular case, no security boundary has been broken," Knut Morten Johansen, Norwegian Communications Manager at SAS, told TT.

He added: "It is therefore important for SAS to say that nobody has been put in danger, both the pilot and traffic management have had control of the situation."

Johansen added that he was unaware how far apart the passenger aircraft and the military plane were to each other, but said that they were never closer than 3,000 feet (900 metres) apart.

But such this tiny detail as truth is irrelevant, when prescribed presstitute rossophbia is being spun.

With their speeds 900 meter isnt much.

Russia has nothing to do on Crimea and in the Dunbas region.
Its ukrainian soil, get out.

The speed is irrelevant. You said they were 100 meters apart, and Nemo pointed out that they were never closer than 900 meters. I think his point is that you're getting worked up over an incident and falling victim to misinformation, which you kind of proved by trying to maintain your original anger about how close the planes were even though you're now acknowledging that the distance between them was nine times greater than you originally said. Logically, your point has been diminished by a factor of 9, but your insistence that this is an incident worthy of condemnation has not.

If the plane was in international airspace, I no longer see an issue here. It's like getting worked up every time someone uses the sidewalk near your house. They're on public property and have every right to be there, but you're worked up about how close they came to stepping on your grass.

Damn, it seems like there's been a lot or air disasters recently. Has there been any comment on the cause of it?

<snip>

There was only 1 other plane crash this year, which still makes planes very safe and reliable. Just think about it, most airports in the world have over 10 takeoffs every hour and out of these thousands of planes in air every day we have maybe one crash every 2 months. I read a lot about plane crashes and most are due to human error.

Just like cars, plane travel will become a lot safer when humans are taken out of the equation and only used for emergencies (mechanical problems).

Is that not how planes operate now? I assumed (perhaps incorrectly) that the pilots are mainly used for takeoffs and landings and the majority of the flight time is now spent on autopilot or to reroute around storms or turbulence.
3430  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian Fighters in Danish/Swedish Air Space.. AGAIN! on: March 24, 2015, 07:32:52 PM
I have to take these reports with a grain of salt now. Although Russian fighters have violated foreign airspace before, I know of at least one time it was claimed to be Russian fighters by Sweden, who later admitted it was not Russian, but French.

The Swedish Armed Forces has confirmed that a foreign aircraft entered Swedish airspace on Saturday, but says it was French and not Russian as initially reported by tabloid Expressen.

Swedish JAS Gripen fighter jets reportedly confronted the French plane over the weekend.

"I can confirm that a French plane was in Swedish airspace on Saturday," military spokesperson Jesper Tengroth told Expressen. He would not say why the plane was in Swedish territory.

The information about a new infringement comes almost exactly two months after another scandal when two Russian planes entered Swedish airspace. The Ministry for Foreign Affairs confirmed that incident.

My thoughts are we shouldn't be Russian to judgment.   Cheesy

Obama has just been a nightmare president.  The fact that he got a nobel peace prize (for what exactly?) should go down in the history books as one of the biggest disgraces of all time.

Specifically, for the work he had done to restart the START agreements with Russia, the promotion of dialogue with the Muslim world, and the emphasis he placed on multilateral diplomacy and the United Nations to solve the world's most pressing issues. Keep in mind the prize goes to the person who most impacts the cause of world peace in the year since the last prize was awarded, a particularly narrow time frame.

Source: http://www.nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/peace/laureates/2009/presentation-speech.html

Now, whether or not the prize was warranted with the benefit of hindsight (my personal opinion is it was not), at least you now know for what exactly it was awarded.   Grin
3434  Other / Politics & Society / Re: France plane crash: No survivors expected, French President says on: March 24, 2015, 05:37:59 PM

There isn't any one cause. Each disaster has it's own causes. Most likely you're just identifying what you perceive to be a pattern (grouping of air disasters) in recent memory. It's kinda how people say "deaths always happen in threes" when two celebrities die in close proximity, and then people wonder who the third is going to be. Logically, that makes no sense, it's just how our brains are wired to see patterns and is a type of information and confirmation bias.

It's ridiculous that assholes like this moron can even afford to set up places for their supporters to gather nevermind actually gather any supporters to begin with, religious fanatics are one of the biggest reasons that Democracy has been ruined before it even got started, people won't vote for this guy based on his policies, they'll vote for him based on how 'Christian' he is compared to other Republicans.

DING DING DING! American politics is less about your policies and more about how much you can raise. There is overlap between popular policies and the ability raise money, but this is ultimately trumped by large groups of people who identify first with their religion and are willing to donate large sums of money to candidates who promise to most vengefully enforce their religious beliefs on everyone else.
3436  Other / Politics & Society / Re: "I choose to be... FAT" on: March 24, 2015, 03:22:44 PM
Very obtuse thinking/reasoning from op there. It doesn't even matter that the mechanics that dictates fatness is astronomically more complex, no one has any business telling fat people not to be fat and no fat person has any business being offended by someone telling them off for being fat.

Except for the part where their being fat is none of your business and you making it your business is probably offensive to them. There's legitimate offense to be taken there where strangers put their own values on someone else's life for the purpose of judging them.

3438  Other / Politics & Society / Re: zerohedge: The Planned Obsolescence of America on: March 23, 2015, 05:52:48 PM
We are specifically addressing the issue of PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE. The first documentary I recommended shows clear cases of when industry planned for their products to fail, not because it was cheaper to make, but because they clearly wanted you to throw it away and buy a new one.

This should be a self-defeating problem. Any business that plans obsolescence creates an incentive for a competitor to steal market share and profit. On the other hand, if consumers are too uncaring to avoid shoddy workmanship or planned obsolescence, then the market has still spoken. The response to any charge of planned obsolescence is always going to be: "Then go do it better."
3439  Other / Politics & Society / Re: "Kidnapped" victims of Chicago police detail ordeal in federal civil-rights suit on: March 22, 2015, 05:48:42 PM
I see police as being the product of rarely being held responsible for their own violations of the law. Their abuses aren't because of who they deal with, it's because of what they're allowed to get away with. It's why you see police forces in affluent suburbs get away with civil forfeiture abuses, and why there are inner city officers who deal primarily with low socio-economic citizens but do so respectfully. It's because of the system of accountability over the officers in each force, from the top-down and all around.
3440  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Tesla updates software to roll out driverless cars in three months on: March 22, 2015, 05:41:13 PM
I will never buy a self-driving car, because I like the act of driving too much. I don't understand the appeal to a car that drives itself. It takes all the joy out of cars.

In a few years you may not have a choice.  A human driving might be considered too dangerous for other cars on the road.  Humans make too many mistakes.

A few decades, maybe, if we ever get to the point where the "choice" to drive is eliminated. I personally don't see that as likely.
