3441  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Russians collectively hold about $130b in crypto on: May 07, 2022, 03:55:56 PM
I feel you. This amount is quite huge even for a country as big as Russia.
The real number is probably much bigger as you should keep in  mind that that estimate (and that's what it is, nothing else) includes all crypto currencies and Russians are very active on the crypto market, both as investors and as developers of various altcoin projects. I mean, just take a look at Russian local board, which is by far the most active board on the forum, despite the fact that they have to use VPN to ban it.

How is that possible? How will Binance know accounts of Russian relatives? Or did this ones submit next of kin to Binance on opening the accounts?
My guess is that those persons went through KYC on their platform so Binance didn't have much issues connecting them with Russian government officials.

I do not think it is true. It is a rumor.
Think again, its true.

Binance said Polina Kovaleva, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s stepdaughter, and Elizaveta Peskova, President Vladimir Putin’s representative Dmitry Peskov’s daughter, were among those barred over the last two months.
The cryptocurrency exchange also said that it had blocked Kirill Malofeyev, the son of Konstantin Malofeyev, a Russian oligarch previously charged with violating US sanctions.
3442  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ledger USB problem in the airport on: May 07, 2022, 10:28:52 AM
Why would you need a ledger? Just right down your seeds on a piece of paper and carry them in your pocket.
That's far from the safe practice, to carry you seed phrase around, written on a piece of paper.

When you need to spend your coins, download a mobile wallet to your phone and import your seed words and proceed.
What if that's your main storage where you keep majority of your bitcoin, like many people do with Ledger? I would absolutely never import my main storage seed into a mobile wallet as risk is simply too big. For me mobile wallets serve only as a hot wallets where I have no more than few hundreds of dollars at any given moment.

There are hardware wallets that look like parts of hardware, though, like USBs. Again, it doesn't make sense to censor me if I'm caring a hardware wallet.
I am quite certain that 99% of the airport security wouldn't be able to differentiate Ledger and a regular USB and probably have no idea what hardware wallet even is.

@Pepinagomez I carried my Ledger wallet once or twice with me on the plane (it was in my cabin luggage) and I had no issues with it whatsoever. I generally avoid doing that due obvious risks that are already mentioned, but on a few occasions I was away from home for a longer period of time and for certain reasons needed my hardware wallet with me.

3443  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How can i transfer from private wallet to CEX privately? on: May 07, 2022, 07:31:11 AM
I want to transfer funds from my private wallet to CEX who don't need KYC, like KuCoin, Bybit, etc.. the amount isn't much around $300 and i want to use it for trading, trading on DEX is nowhere similar to trading on CEX. also i don't see myself withdrawing massive amounts of CEX anytime soon, so withdrawal won't be an issue too.
If you plan to stick to the smaller amounts then chances are that Kucoin won't ask you for KYC, just keep in mind that if you end up being successful at trading and end up with a lot of money, Kucoin will most likely ask you to go through KYC process.

I never want to withdraw to bank, want to earn online spend online on basic stuffs. Just want to move form private wallet to CEX for trading, i don't have BTC in private wallet only some altcoins
Another thing to keep in mind are withdrawal  fees are those are not negligent at all, especially since you mentioned that you wanna use your crypto to pay for stuff. For example, both Kucoin and Bybit have 0.0005 BTC fee.
3444  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The Standard of a Meritorious post on: May 06, 2022, 09:11:24 PM
It is a problem for the newbies getting merits
No its not. Well, at least not to those that either have something to say or have something to ask.

the eagerness is endless as they anticipate merit in any content they have put up effort with
..which makes many of them pushing too hard in order to get merit so they pretend to know more than they actually do by plagiarizing or making merit fishing topics.

But it seem not coming.
It is coming to genuine newbies that come here to learn some things about bitcoin.

Is it that those who have excess of merits reserves their generosity or there are laid down principles in writing a Meritorious contents.
No, and there are no rules when it comes to what is "meritorious content", everyone is free to decide that for themselves.
3445  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Bitcoin-vpn.com - a huge list of Bitcoin and other crypto friendly VPN providers on: May 06, 2022, 08:54:30 PM
They now accept Monero too Smiley
Nice addition, the most privacy oriented VPN became even more privacy oriented. I've been using Mullvad for more than a month now and its been working like a charm and if it continues like that for a month or two more I'll just probably take a 1 year sub and make it my main VPN solution.

@Bitcoin-vpn I see you mentioned that you like oVPN the most. Can you maybe compare it with Mullvad and why you liked it more?
3446  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: American University, Bentley now accepts crypto's for tuition payments. on: May 06, 2022, 04:52:57 PM
I am perhaps more interested in finding out why they chose to take USD*C* (Ethereum network) instead of USD*T* (Tron network), especially how lots of people came to pay me in USDT recently - it has more activity in general (even Chinese traders prefer it I heard).
Since it's mentioned in that article that Bentley University partnered with Coinbase in order to accept crypto, no wonder that they "suggested" them to accept only USDC when it comes to stablecoins despite high fees and not USDT or some others that are much cheaper to send.

In order to do this, the university is partnering with Coinbase, the largest cryptocurrency exchange in the US, to accept three cryptos as payment...

Unless the company or School wants to invest into bitcoin for long term profits using tuition fees as a means of gathering bitcoin then it's a nice move. Adopting it as a means of running the school's day to day activities like paying bills can be devastating when the market plunges down.
Since they partnered with Coinbase to sort the crypto payments I doubt that they will accept crypto payments directly so while student will be able to pay in crypto what university will get is fiat so that crypto volatility won't be any problem for them whatsoever.
3447  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How can i transfer from private wallet to CEX privately? on: May 06, 2022, 10:45:29 AM
I don't understand what's the point of doing that when CEX exchange can only be used with kyc verified account, and there is nothing anonymous about that.
Everything that you send or withdraw from CEX will be connected with your real life identity, and only thing you can do is to user mixers to remove this connection.
Afaik Kucoin doesn't ask for KYC so it is still possible to deposit/trade/withdraw crypto from there without revealing your identity. I have an account there since 2017 and so far they didn't ask me for KYC (I use it very rarely though and never with bigger amounts). With that being said, I still wouldn't use them for larger amounts of money if staying anonymous is priority as just because they usually don't ask for KYC it doesn't mean they won't if you try to withdraw bigger amounts.

3448  Economy / Reputation / Re: My campaign journey has ended due to this on: May 06, 2022, 10:36:13 AM
Yes, I didn't participate, just a mere application that I wasn't able to deleted due to my inactiveness. I've try to reach out but JollyGood already made up his mind.
It is a little bit harsh to be honest, to get negative feedback without actually wearing signature but I guess for him your willingness to participate was enough.

Would be thankful if he sees it and reconsider.
For even a slightest chance for that to happen you will have to change the way you approach signature campaigns. For example, you are wearing a signature of BlenderWallet even though there are some serious issues with the, as explained in BlenderWallet phishing attempt? thread, and their account has several negative feedbacks. So once again you failed to do a basic due diligence, like it happened with 1xbit application.

3449  Economy / Reputation / Re: Bounty Cheater, Alt Account & Ban Envasion! on: May 05, 2022, 08:56:45 PM
I'm really starting to think that more then 50% of bounty hunters are cheaters. A lot is probably due to the world they may live in and them trying to better themselves, but that doesn't take away from the fact that they are selling their moral values for a freaking dollar.
Another reason for such a high percentage of cheaters might be because those who are trying to do it the right way see bounty campaign being filled mostly with newbies which equals to alts. So after some time they probably start feeling stupid not to enroll couple of alts when bounty rules (allowing newbies to join) basically invites you to cheat which eventually led to such a high percentage of cheaters.

The issue is, most managers are scared to death if they take away allowing newbies to participate, then the bounty they are running will have 5 participants.
All good managers I know don't even accept newbies in campaigns because they can't wear signatures, and twitter social media campaigns can be much harder to track.
I think that yahoo62278 referred to altcoin bounty campaigns and he is right, if bounty managers introduce that rule it would soon become obvious how few legit members do those bounty campaigns which would cause them loosing their job. I just went through first few pages of bounty section and checked couple of bounty campaigns that are hosted by well known managers and all of them allow newbie accounts to join. Is there any manager that has that rule, where no newbies are allowed in altcoin campaign?

I like the idea of one manager making campaign that pays if someone catches member who is cheating, and I think all managers should do something similar.
Even symbolic payment would make forum much cleaner place.
I agree, it's not a bad initiative at all but afaik its for btc signature campaigns and not altcoin bounty campaign which is where vast majority of cheating happens.
3450  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to know if my new topic has been posted by someone before on: May 05, 2022, 04:56:52 PM
I have never tried this before, can I use it to search for plagiarism?
Yes you can, but since ninjastic.space archives only posts written on the forum you can only use it to check if someone copied someone else's post so it won't be too effective as majority of those caught for plagiarism copy external texts. It's very good for identifying alt accounts though as you can also look for addresses, if you are into that sort of thing.
3451  Economy / Reputation / Re: hZti changed hands or not? on: May 05, 2022, 10:08:24 AM
Therefore, I suggest to give him a negative trust to ensure that the account belongs to the real owner.
While his behavior is suspicious I think that would be an overkill, to give this user negative feedback right off the bat. Imho, its much better to do it the way dkbit98 did, to give him neutral feedback for starters and then give it some time before proceeding with the negative when more evidence is available. If he was asking for a loan in this situation, then I wouldn't think twice before tagging him.

He always can prove account ownership by signing any of his previous used BTC addresses. there are a few of them here, by ninjastic.space
I was just in the middle of checking those when I saw your post and from what I can see, none of them were used in the last 7-8 years so somehow I doubt that he will be able to sign any of those even if that account never changed hands.
3452  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Suspicious behaviour of lil17th on: May 05, 2022, 09:47:49 AM
Today I have received message from lil17th via telegram while I denied to discuss on there then called me as a newbie and told s/he is not able to post on my topic also addressed me as arabic bastard. Screenshot attached below
I also had conversation with the same person as well, after he created yet another thread yesterday where he sells Telegram channel as I wanted to conform whether person that is mentioned in that TG channel indeed put it up for sale on bitcointalk.

So, I  talked to the user that is mentioned in the group that @lil17th is allegedly selling (Tg username that is mentioned is @lil17_th) and this is how it went.

As I explained in that other post, even if that person sells that channel, chances are that its filled with nothing but bots as let's be honest, even a legit groups on telegram have bunch of fake users let alone some dodgy channel where you can't really tell anything.

3453  Other / Meta / Re: Help end this phase for Nigerians @Theymos on: May 05, 2022, 07:51:49 AM
But I think the admins were quite fast to respond in our case when they were PMed with our requests. Was it marlboroza or dkbit98 who contacted them?
Iirc it was @dkbit98 who started all that process once again.

Most of the active local members took the initiative and moved their own topics. Those were interesting days.
That's true we took initiative and finally got our child boards (must admit I was pessimistic about our chances). I remember talking to Cyrus on bitcointalk Discord server about the case as well as he used to be quite active there.

I would recommend all Nigerians to keep bumping this thread, always making constructive comments, obviously, until you are granted the local board for being persistant. Those of us who are not Nigerians but support you in the cause will help you in this.
Yep, that's the only way to eventually get your own local board and just because no one from the forum staff is answering here in this thread (or the other one) doesn't mean that they are not listening, it's just that they are very careful with these kind of things due many local boards eventually becoming inactive.
3454  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wikipedia stops accepting btc donations - “inherently predatory” on: May 05, 2022, 06:42:46 AM
In any case, as I've said elsewhere I'm sure that there is a lot more going on behind the scene that made them stop accepting bitcoin donations. They are just hiding the real reasons behind something brainwashed masses have bought (the fake energy consumption) because that's way easier to sell and it could make them look good.
I thought that reason was pretty obvious and not hidden at all, and its the fact they they receive so little donation in cryptocurrencies that they simply decided to ditch them and then make some bullshit reasons about the environment, not endorsing cryptocurrencies etc. I am sure that if large portion of their donations was in crypto they wouldn't even think about it so in the end its just about opportunism.

Why should they spend extra time and money to add Bitcoin as a payment option, if almost nobody is doing it? I have seen this happening with many merchants in the past.
I am not so sure that they are spending any extra time for this as from what I know they used payment processor (BitPay) that automatically converts donated bitcoin into fiat so its not that bitcoin is going straight into their wallet and then they have to handle all that crypto to fiat conversion.

You might as well close this thread because I've already won.
Pretty much this, but If I have to find 2nd best one, for me it would be the one from that famous pizza thread. Now you can close it  Cheesy

3456  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to know if my new topic has been posted by someone before on: May 04, 2022, 08:54:59 PM
Instead of using forum search option I suggest you to check https://ninjastic.space/ as it offers way more options when looking for something specific. That tool is so good that I honestly haven't touched forum search option in the last year or so and have no plans using it as long as it stays in the current state.

The only downside (for me that is not a problem really) of ninjastic.space is that you will have to use something else other than forum itself but in my opinion its worth it as its a superior tool.
3457  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Which token has lowest transaction fees in Gate.io stock on: May 04, 2022, 08:42:14 PM
I still think that XLM trading volumes are low and therefore you will notice a difference in the exchange rate when you send it to another platform.
Dunno, I am just checking XLM trading volume and it doesn't look low to me at all: $3.6 million on Gate.io and more than $13 million on Coinbase Pro. Unless OP is a whale I don't think that he should have any issues using XLM to transfer his money. But if he is a whale, then I agree that something like XRP is probably a better choice.
3458  Economy / Services / Re: Selling telegram channel (nft) on: May 04, 2022, 04:19:07 PM
So, I  talked to the user that is mentioned in the group that @lil17th is allegedly selling (Tg username that is mentioned is @lil17_th) and this is how it went.

By the looks of it, it might be a legit Telegram channel sale, but even if this is not a classic scam, there is a catch; its very easy and cheap to fill Telegram channel with hundreds of thousands of bots and to make channel even more legit there are services that will give you fake views meaning even if everything goes well and you get the group, most likely it will be completely worthless for any sort of business. Not a bad business model when you think about it, to spend few hundreds of dollars on building up the channel and then selling it for a couple of thousands.
3459  Other / Meta / Re: Report plagiarism (copy/paste) here. Mods: please give temp or permban as needed on: May 04, 2022, 02:24:40 PM
@Rikafip, I admit that I may be wrong about @Nerdy doctor, but if you look at his post history it's hard to get the impression that he really wrote that post. Still, maybe he had a moment of inspiration and really tried and wrote something meaningful.
No no, I completely understand your suspicion as it indeed sticks out from rest of his posts, the biggest difference being the text format. In all of his previously started topics he never really bothered to create paragraphs while in the one you shared here he actually put some effort into it. Another suspicious thing that we have now is @Xal0lex's finding of yet another place where exactly the same text showed up and I don't know what are the chances of some bitcointalk topic getting so popular that others copy/paste it. Unless Nerdy doctor posted those stuff in few other places too.

All this is no evidence though so unless someone shows up with the original text, nothing much we can do. But how knows, maybe he indeed got inspired to write that, strangers things had happened before.
3460  Other / Meta / Re: Report plagiarism (copy/paste) here. Mods: please give temp or permban as needed on: May 04, 2022, 11:54:25 AM
@Rikafip, I'm not claiming that he plagiarized something that was written the day after, but that it doesn't seem to me that he wrote that post. I may be wrong, but someone who has better knowledge to check it may find that it is a translated text.
Ah I understand, Yeah I suspected that you didn't miss the date thing. Anyway, I translated various parts of that post into ~15 most used languages (Spanish, French, Chinese, Russian etc) and no results whatsoever (I used Google only, no other tools). I remember few cases where users of that Yobit forum (can't remember the exact name now) copied bitcointalk post so it wouldn't be the first time.
