It looks like the crocodile's jaws snapped shut.

Everybody still got all of his limbs? Does not seem like there is much blood in the water yet?

There never was too much blood in the water anyways, and it seems most people like me already expected sideways or down until Aug 1. Nothing concerning as of yet, whales are likely sleeping right now as well. Just be happy we are still above 2000, this may not hold true during August Smiley
3442  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: WTB four L3+ Before market is flooded immediate shipping on: July 10, 2017, 05:39:11 PM
A classic game of chicken being played and looks like most people are siding with holding versus selling them before the influx...interesting
Understandable as we haven't seen this kind of profit margin with ASICs in an extremely long time. This will likely crash real quick once the floodgates open with L3+s but we shall have to see, also note difficulty is now increasing quickon LTC which does not bode well for LTC miners.
3443  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Where to buy GPUs ? on: July 10, 2017, 01:11:46 AM
Nowinstock scans card selling sites automatically for stock (mainly Newegg, etc) but nowadays unless you are lightning quick bots buy them out fast. At this point you can either refresh the card page every millisecond, hope nowinstock alerts you fast enough, or you can buy gouged cards from third party sellers. It is essentially gambling with all mining, so remember this- Never invest more than you can afford to lose.

If you are truly desperate modded RX 560/460s can do around 14MHs per card with low power consumption and can reach ROI fairly quickly. Only problem is you need a whole lot of risers as the cards don't mine too fast.
3444  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Celeron CPU stock fan, do you keep or replace with a better one on: July 10, 2017, 01:06:57 AM
The fans are made by Intel for regular use at their rated TDP, and these processors probably won't get close to that during mining. Unless you are also mining with the Celeron (horrible idea most of the time), stock thermal paste and fan is just fine. If thermal compound goes bad, you can buy a 30g tube of cheap Chinese thermal paste for around a buck or two and it'll run well. You also won't need thermal paste for a long time.
3445  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 10, 2017, 01:04:15 AM
Relatively speaking, trading volume feels so anemic though.  It's like the bots are just on auto, traders still on vacation. Tongue

Guys are holding on until past or during Aug 1st for the real action. What happens now is nothing. Sure, it's not fun, but it's understandable traders aren't doing much these days.
3446  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Quiet older miners? on: July 10, 2017, 12:59:08 AM
S7LN and R4 are reasonably quiet and can possibly make ROI depending on purchase cost and electrical rates. S7 and S9, as you probably know, are extremely loud and even at the lowest fan settings will be very loud.

Some guys say the Avalon 4 was rather quiet but I do not have very much knowledge on that miner. They are also fairly rare and I do not see them being sold much anymore these days, with efficiency comparable to the Antminer S5.
3447  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: $40 000 to invest, is there money to make in mining? on: July 09, 2017, 12:27:37 PM
With $40k of investment, how long is it realistically going to take to get a ROI?

This kind of question is a little difficult to answer.

Questions about algorithm, electric costs, electric usage, cooling, GPU or ASIC, difficulty and many more.

Stupid quick calculation on BitcoinWisdom calculator at a 2% difficulty rise and it will take 12 months+ for your ROI including electric at a decent price point for the Avalon 7.

Something as big as an investment needs to be managed and looked after too. So man hours will be plenty.

2% is absolutely unrealistic for difficulty rises as we're now seeing regular 5-10% difficulty rises nowadays. While calculators are good as an estimation, keep in mind they are estimations and are most of the time not correct.

As for working hours, supposing you use good PSUs and monitor + set heat limits on miners (which don't always work) you won't need to repair or do maintenance very much. Remember dust is your worst enemy and use compressed air to remove dust every few months on miners for optimal temps.
3448  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Difficulty contest. prize 2 ltc 1 compac usb stick. Picks are open!! on: July 09, 2017, 12:26:05 PM
+ 4.2

Never hurts to participate in one of these. Let's hope we actually get close to the actual difficulty rise this time!
3449  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] GeForce GTX 1070 G1 Gaming 8G on: July 08, 2017, 07:07:13 PM
It has a good price!!
It also has a new account with no posts (created today!) saying it has a good price... Smiley definitely not a coincidence, right?
3450  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Rockminer T1 HW Errors on: July 07, 2017, 06:30:28 PM
I am not sure but I know that I have a fan blowing on it at all times. I would say its fairly cool. I have an S1 running at 190GH/s, too, and it isn't having the same issues. I also have two U3's connected to Pool 1800 and they're both hashing at about 80GH/s combined while connected to my Mac through BFG Miner.

It is using an HP 800W PSU with Four PCIe Six Pin connectors. What would be a better option to keep it cool? I have the AC running in my apartment at all times.....I am thinking it needs a better, cooler PSU, but I am fairly new to this.

I switched pools to 443 and it has the same issues that it did at 1800 on us.ss.btc.com.
The T1 has a rated power consumption of 1000w so that may be the issue. If possible, underclock the miner and see if it runs error free at a lower hashrate.
3451  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Rockminer T1 HW Errors on: July 07, 2017, 06:04:39 PM
Hi all.

Recently got a Rockminer T1. It hashes well but I have up to 85% rejection rate, so I am not being as profitable as I should be. Any help?

Have it set up to mine at us.ss.btc.com:443 and I have the DNS set at 8.8.8.8.8. I have a Mac at my house so I do not have the ability to manipulate the IP as much, but that shouldn't be the issue.

Please help! Thanks!
85% is definitely too high, what are the temperatures of the miner and what PSU are you using? Temps can have a big effect on shares and an underpowered miner may also not operate as well.

You can also try to switch to another pool and see if the results are the same, it may be a pool issue but I doubt it.
3452  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Dualminer USB ASIC, drivers won't install on: July 07, 2017, 05:48:23 PM
Looks like an FTDI FT2232HL, so whichever driver is required for that chip.
FTDI is also used for BFL Jalapeņo miners and I have several of them, so the instructions I just listed above should work, except it'll be by the FTDI name instead of the Silabs name.
3453  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Dualminer USB ASIC, drivers won't install on: July 07, 2017, 05:42:44 PM
Install Zadig and run the software while the USB is plugged in. Select options and select show hidden or all devices, and locate the DualMiner USB (Could possibly be named Silicon Labs CP2102 or something similar if DualMiner doesn't show up). For drivers, select WinUsb. It should then run (instructions are applicable to all such USB miners as the default Silicon Labs drivers aren't detected by most mining softwares).
3454  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer: BTC/USD Price Tracking and Discussion 2.0 (Unmoderated) on: July 06, 2017, 10:11:56 PM
So is this thread which was created by admin and curator here pertaining to this particular thread?
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2004227

Then who will take the reigns of this new Wall Observer thread!

Only One Thread to Rule Them All! Cool
I wonder how they'll transfer ownership of the thread, does the new administrator of the thread get Theymos to modify the first post or will the first post stay the first and Theymos modifies the title and author? Either way, it'll be good to not have to scrounge for information so much anymore. Can't belive how bad Speculation is without the Wall Observer, no matter how bad people claim it to be.
3455  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GPU MINER GTX1060 x10 x12 ? on: July 06, 2017, 08:53:06 PM
I dont think I need something special. People are putting 2 or 4 gpu cards in one slot. They have some kind of hardware is making from 1 pci -> 2 or 4 usb + risers what u think ?
That's possible and runs off of splitting one 16x into 4x4x or something like that, but those adapters are real expensive from what I see on some websites and it's better to just buy more motherboards than to take all the time and hassle to do something so small.
3456  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] FIRE SALE! A2 Term, X3 Thunder, X6 Lightning, SP20E FIRE SALE! on: July 06, 2017, 08:51:48 PM
I got an SP20 for around 70 about a half year ago, they're pretty old and comparable to an S5. Not sure about the rest.
3457  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GPU MINER GTX1060 x10 x12 ? on: July 06, 2017, 05:07:39 PM
You'd likely need a custom BIOS for the motherboard due to several limitations, one being the fact that some OSes might not even support more than eight GPUs. Also, this thread is in the wrong section and belongs in 'Altcoin Mining'. Please move it. For the power connectors, they likely use high end PC power supplies or use breakout boards like I do with server psus, which can give you more than ten or twelve PCI connectors. In fact, I run an entire rig with a server psu and it runs just fine.
3458  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Getting into Mining: Hopefully simple answer to simple q on: July 04, 2017, 09:38:23 PM
I'll try to keep this clean and concise, although there will probably be a few gaps which I do not usually leave out.

For BTC: As long as electrical costs are below $.10/kWh-

Bitmain:
S9
R4 (Quiet but prone to breaking)
T9

Avalon:
A721/741 (Essentially both the same miner)

Ebit:

Ebit E9 (Chinese 14/16nm miner, alternative to the 'big two')

To start mining BTC, you'll need to buy an ASIC. For alts, there are X11 ASICs and Litecoin ASICs.

For BTC and some alts you must buy directly or from a reseller and it is not really possible to make your own unless you have millions of dollars (or buy chips, which is difficult, and have extensive electronics and software knowledge). For other bigger alts like ZEC and ETH, you can buy premade which is a huge ripoff or try to get the still-overpriced GTX 1060/1070/1080/1080TI cards or Radeon RX570/80 or RX 470/80. For a motherboard you want a good quality mobo (don't cheap out too much!), Biostar makes boards for mining like this but other ones work. CPUs like the G3900 for LGA1151 or G1820/1840 for 1150 work, other platforms like Ryzen are more expensive or consume too much electricity (1155). You can boot from USB with pretty much any OS you want and run off of that, but you must have RAM (usually around 2GB for best performance, Linux may run with less). Finally, make sure you DO NOT buy a cheap-ass no name PSU. Server PSUs with breakout boards usually offer great efficiency (usually 90+% efficiency), although Corsair and EVGA also make great 80+ PSUs at higher prices which look good and run well. LEPA is one brand to ALWAYS avoid as their PSUs are generally garbage for any purpose.

Be careful not to get ripped off with GPUs. RX cards which I listed above should not be bought for above 400 except for special cards (I.E Golden Sample). 4GB is OK but the DAG is expanding for ETH and it will cause you to not be able to mine, although ETH will switch to POS anyways. For nVidia cards the rate varies a lot, shop around and find the lowest price. Be aware all cards are experiencing price inflation except for the lowest and highest end cards (and even the high end cards are being bought up fast).

Depending on the rig, you will have wildly varying amounts of profit. Keep in mind you aren't really making profit until you break even. Whattomine.com lets you see which coin is most profitable to mine, although some smaller coins will vary wildly (just a site that I can think off the top of my head). Nicehash offers a compact and quick GUI which lets you mine the most profitable coin with your rig, but they do take a ~3% fee IIRC. Not that big for the ease of use you get.
3459  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: New X11 asic hardware - PinIdea & Baikal both - just not for you! on: July 04, 2017, 06:11:38 PM
The latter from Baikal will probably never be sold to the public here in the West or anywhere outside of China. Most likely Baikal selling to farm operators in China and/or mining for themselves with the X11 ASICs. PinIdea seems priced well as the ROI is around 110 days (I have electrical costs of ~$0.06/kWh). Still a little too expensive even for me though.
3460  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Review of Canaan support, warranty, controller, and A741 on: July 03, 2017, 11:55:05 PM
How noisy is the A741 compared to the S9?

The s9 is say 75db vs the 741 is 72 db

But the s9 has nasty pitch .

And some times a fucking whistle sound that is really bad.  I suspect it is due to the heatsinks used inside.

Many are offset .

The s9 is pretty much a pos compared to the Avalon 741.

But if you get a good one that does not break they are better.

Of the 11 I have had .four have not had any issues in a year.  The other 7 needed repairs.

Wow,7 out of 11 had problems ??  Kinda like my odds at the Casino  Cheesy

Glad I'm not an ASIC whore anymore,my vid cards rock & with a 3 year warranty, even a free ship label sent to me  Cool
I still stick with Bitcoin, although I have put a few Radeon cards in my PC for mining when i'm not using it. I still enjoy ASIC mining but I fear it's slowly coming to an end for us home miners and the big corporations and farms will centralize the entire mining business (As we can already see with Bitmain and Avalon distributing the only 'effective' ASICs now).

You just realizing this now?? LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!! For the last year or so the diff rise has been a killer, the price rise has helped but not for much longer, unless we're talkin $10,000 BTC by end year  Cheesy

Centralization has been upon BTC & will not let up,enjoy your expensive broke prone ASIC miners LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!  Wink
I've known this for a long time if you track my posts (who would?). I'm still profitable as my electrical cost is right around six cents per kilowatt and I probably will be for a long time. POW change is an option but with centralization Jihan will make some chess pieces move and block that out. My mining rigs haven't broken down yet and I still actively buy miners and use them, GPUs also have risk involved, albeit much less.
