I wonder whether the title of the thread needs to be change from Google to Alphabet !!!

Yes. That is 100% true. But as far as an impact for a thread title, its level of attractiveness would be low.

It's not that I don't see your point, we can put this debate to rest, I definitely agree that my future brain (or self? we don't even know!) should be open source and not owned or managed by Google or Apple if that's an option. I'm arguing that to think there would be an option is rather pointless or wishful thinking. Wilikon (aka Neo Socrates) is definitely right to think that knowledge should be shared and not sold as merchandise or used for profit. But we live in a world where we are discussing water to no longer be an human right? What's next? Air of course.

These companies are monopolies, they cast you out of business or cast you out of life altogether. We do have alternatives to e-mail if you don't want to use Gmail, but you don't have real alternatives to many other products that are industry standards (like the Adobe analogy I mentioned a while back). You can't be on Facebook, Skype or Whatsapp by signing up with an alternative because the rest just don't use it. You can argue that you don't need it in order to live, but soon you end up only communicating with your old land line phone.

So I can definitely envision 55% of the people using Google artificial brain, 35% using Apple's and then 5-10% some inferior command-based linux-powered get-your-own-server ones that can't even keep up or are incompatible with the latest "brain apps" like virtual sex or snowboarding on the moon. You'll be missing out!

I'm kidding of course but it will always be like that to me and that's the only part we disagree.

Neo Socrates says: "I feel uncomfortable being compared to Socrates, as I am uncomfortable in togas..."

I disagree with nothing you've said. A few years back you could sign up without providing a real phone number to google. Now, google knows who you are, thanks to your phone bill, and has your fingerprints, the ones you use to unlock your Nexus 5X or 6P.

Some love for microsoft. Microsoft's Hololens could be the killer app for snowboarders having sex on the virtual moon...

Not knowing the detailed mapping of the veins inside your index finger does not preclude someone looking at it to walk toward the path your are pointing to. In google's case, that path could be evil...

Muslim Dad Kills 4 Year-Old Daughter for Not Covering Her Head

A man named Jafar Hussain allegedly killed his 4-year-old daughter for not covering his head, while she was having food. The little girl has been identified as Farheen.

According to the reports, on Friday the girl was having lunch with her mother. Soon her father noticed that she didn’t cover her head with the dupatta. He repeatedly told his wife to cover little girl’s head, but the dupatta always slip off. An angry Jafar Hussain picked the girl up and threw her on the ground killing her on the spot.

After the girl died, he told his wife to bury her inside the house, but she refused and informed police about the incident.

Hindustan Times quoted Superintendent of Police BK Srivastav as saying:

“Police have arrested the father for killing his daughter and we are questioning him about the incident.”

Neighbours described Hussain as a staunch religious follower who shunned all contacts even with his relatives. He lives with his wife and four children.

It seems we've been tracking a number of cases of in-family violence in Muslim families that's quite different than in non-Muslim families.

Here is an attempt to take a broader view on the matter.

First, Wikipedia.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islam_and_domestic_violence

Second, a somewhat dated but intriguing article.

http://www.themodernreligion.com/women/dv-ending.htm

I quote in part.

Under no circumstances is violence against women encouraged or allowed. The holy Qur'an ....

Added to these verses is the inescapable fact that the Prophet vehemently disapproved of men hitting their wives....

In the abusive mindset, all of these verses and hadith are ignored, and males misquote two specific verses and one hadith to justify complete control of females. The worst interpretations go so far as t assert that a woman is mentally, emotionally, psychologically, and spiritually permanently disabled, and is prone to immorality, putting her in constant need of male supervision.

Wasn't there someone describing women as being "sensible" in this thread earlier?

SHOCK: LA TIMES LABELS BLACK OREGON SHOOTER AS WHITE SUPREMACIST!!!

The Los Angeles Times has labeled the Oregon shooter as having “white supremacist leanings” even though the shooter was black. The shooter identified as “mixed race” and reportedly had a black mother. Quoting an alleged anonymous source in law enforcement, the paper wrote, “A federal law enforcement source familiar with the investigation said, though, that authorities had obtained some of Harper-Mercer’s writings, as well as a note he left behind, suggesting that he supported white-supremacist causes and opposed organized religion. He also liked to discuss military history, the official said.”

Regarding the race of the shooter and his motivations, the Daily Beast reported that the shooter admired the black Roanoke shooter who expressed racial motivations for his actions. They also wrote, “The father is Caucasian, Evans said, while Mercer’s mother, Laurel Harper, is black.”

The absurdity and apparent lack of an actual knowledgeable source in the LA Times article was first pointed out by Daniel Greenfield in FrontPage Magazine. He wrote:

According to the LA Times, Chris Harper Mercer, the Oregon killer, was a “White Supremacist”.

One slight problem. Mercer identified as multi-racial. His mother was black. He doesn’t seem to have even known his father. He identified with black TV killer Vester Lee Flanagan.

Though it is possible that someone resembling the Dave Chappelle character Clayton Bigsby, who was a blind black white supremacist, did exist, we can all agree that it is unlikely.

3446  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Causes of Mass shootings, suicides + - Many of them are on psychotropic drugs on: October 03, 2015, 08:45:19 PM
I was just watching this documentary: Psychiatry in the Military: The Hidden Enemy—Full Documentary, and was just frustrated that people just take drugs without really thinking about what's in them and the side effects. Because side effects do kill from time to time.

Why is it whenever someone goes on a shooting rampage people want to ban guns instead of look into the actual causes of the shooting? It's the same for medical practitioners giving meds to get rid of the symptoms but not looking to cure the cause.

Every Mass Shooting Shares One Thing In Common & It’s NOT Weapons

Quote
....
On to the list of mass shooters and the stark link to psychotropic drugs.

Eric Harris age 17 (first on Zoloft then Luvox) and Dylan Klebold aged 18 (Columbine school shooting in Littleton, Colorado), killed 12 students and 1 teacher, and wounded 23 others, before killing themselves. Klebold’s medical records have never been made available to the public.

Jeff Weise, age 16, had been prescribed 60 mg/day of Prozac (three times the average starting dose for adults!) when he shot his grandfather, his grandfather’s girlfriend and many fellow students at Red Lake, Minnesota. He then shot himself. 10 dead, 12 wounded.

Cory Baadsgaard, age 16, Wahluke (Washington state) High School, was on Paxil (which caused him to have hallucinations) when he took a rifle to his high school and held 23 classmates hostage. He has no memory of the event.

Chris Fetters, age 13, killed his favorite aunt while taking Prozac.

Christopher Pittman, age 12, murdered both his grandparents while taking Zoloft.

Mathew Miller, age 13, hung himself in his bedroom closet after taking Zoloft for 6 days.

Kip Kinkel, age 15, (on Prozac and Ritalin) shot his parents while they slept then went to school and opened fire killing 2 classmates and injuring 22 shortly after beginning Prozac treatment.

Luke Woodham, age 16 (Prozac) killed his mother and then killed two students, wounding six others.

A boy in Pocatello, ID (Zoloft) in 1998 had a Zoloft-induced seizure that caused an armed stand off at his school.

Michael Carneal (Ritalin), age 14, opened fire on students at a high school prayer meeting in West Paducah, Kentucky. Three teenagers were killed, five others were wounded..

A young man in Huntsville, Alabama (Ritalin) went psychotic chopping up his parents with an ax and also killing one sibling and almost murdering another.

Andrew Golden, age 11, (Ritalin) and Mitchell Johnson, aged 14, (Ritalin) shot 15 people, killing four students, one teacher, and wounding 10 others.

TJ Solomon, age 15, (Ritalin) high school student in Conyers, Georgia opened fire on and wounded six of his class mates.

Rod Mathews, age 14, (Ritalin) beat a classmate to death with a bat.

James Wilson, age 19, (various psychiatric drugs) from Breenwood, South Carolina, took a .22 caliber revolver into an elementary school killing two young girls, and wounding seven other children and two teachers.

Elizabeth Bush, age 13, (Paxil) was responsible for a school shooting in Pennsylvania

Jason Hoffman (Effexor and Celexa) – school shooting in El Cajon, California

Jarred Viktor, age 15, (Paxil), after five days on Paxil he stabbed his grandmother 61 times.

Chris Shanahan, age 15 (Paxil) in Rigby, ID who out of the blue killed a woman.

Jeff Franklin (Prozac and Ritalin), Huntsville, AL, killed his parents as they came home from work using a sledge hammer, hatchet, butcher knife and mechanic’s file, then attacked his younger brothers and sister.

Neal Furrow (Prozac) in LA Jewish school shooting reported to have been court-ordered to be on Prozac along with several other medications.

Kevin Rider, age 14, was withdrawing from Prozac when he died from a gunshot wound to his head. Initially it was ruled a suicide, but two years later, the investigation into his death was opened as a possible homicide. The prime suspect, also age 14, had been taking Zoloft and other SSRI antidepressants.

Alex Kim, age 13, hung himself shortly after his Lexapro prescription had been doubled.

Diane Routhier was prescribed Welbutrin for gallstone problems. Six days later, after suffering many adverse effects of the drug, she shot herself.

Billy Willkomm, an accomplished wrestler and a University of Florida student, was prescribed Prozac at the age of 17. His family found him dead of suicide – hanging from a tall ladder at the family’s Gulf Shore Boulevard home in July 2002.

Kara Jaye Anne Fuller-Otter, age 12, was on Paxil when she hung herself from a hook in her closet. Kara’s parents said “…. the damn doctor wouldn’t take her off it and I asked him to when we went in on the second visit. I told him I thought she was having some sort of reaction to Paxil…”)

Gareth Christian, Vancouver, age 18, was on Paxil when he committed suicide in 2002,
(Gareth’s father could not accept his son’s death and killed himself.)

Kurt Danysh, age 18, and on Prozac, killed his father with a shotgun. He is now behind prison bars, and writes letters, trying to warn the world that SSRI drugs can kill.

Woody ____, age 37, committed suicide while in his 5th week of taking Zoloft. Shortly before his death his physician suggested doubling the dose of the drug. He had seen his physician only for insomnia. He had never been depressed, nor did he have any history of any mental illness symptoms.

A boy from Houston, age 10, shot and killed his father after his Prozac dosage was increased.

Hammad Memon, age 15, shot and killed a fellow middle school student. He had been diagnosed with ADHD and depression and was taking Zoloft and “other drugs for the conditions.”

Matti Saari, a 22-year-old culinary student, shot and killed 9 students and a teacher, and wounded another student, before killing himself. Saari was taking an SSRI and a benzodiazapine.

Steven Kazmierczak, age 27, shot and killed five people and wounded 21 others before killing himself in a Northern Illinois University auditorium. According to his girlfriend, he had recently been taking Prozac, Xanax and Ambien. Toxicology results showed that he still had trace amounts of Xanax in his system.

Finnish gunman Pekka-Eric Auvinen, age 18, had been taking antidepressants before he killed eight people and wounded a dozen more at Jokela High School – then he committed suicide.

Black, White, Yellow, Red, Brown, Gold.   They all do.

Its funny though if you think about it.

They have black parades in my area once a year.

What if we had a white parade?  Would we be considered racist?  I have black friends im not racist.  Im just askin?

Yes finally thank god.  I will be attending this tomorrow and I will try to update this thread to tell everyone how it went.  I am just hoping that none of them get out of control and we can just have a good race.  I will not be running in it just cheering on my brother near the end of the race where the protests are supposed to happen.  Hopefully, hopefully if they do get out of control the cops arrest them on the spot.

Have fun. Stay safe.

A person can only explain so many times why an idea is not true- eventually to keep the page reasonable some have to be blocked. When I went on and on for hours repeating some nonsense as a kid my mother would finally have enough of it and slap me silly. Unfortunately we can't do the same for people on web sites so the next best thing is to block them

What if you tell your mom over and over to stop smocking crack? Would she be right to slap you silly? The banning on reddit lacked the same perspective.

3450  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why Google Is the New Evil Empire on: October 03, 2015, 04:56:05 PM
I didn't mean we are at war with nature per se, we are nature! Our bodies and brain are made of it. However our sense of self doesn't let us find comfort in it, we are definitely not in harmony. We are just not "perfect" the way we are or the way we were created. We always need something else, no matter how humble or wise you are, even comfort in the spiritual world and after death. We'll be enlightened if that wasn't the case if you are familiar with eastern philosophies.

We both are always discussing the same elements but from different point of views, that's ok haha. You are worried about the "should". Should be like this or like that. If we were greeks 3000 years ago and had a time machine, we won't be very happy to see that, while technology advanced, the rest of the problems affecting the human spirit remained the same today. Corruption, fear, chauvinism, bigotry, prejudice and so on. Actually you seem to think very much like Socrates, who nowadays would definitely be a strong supporter of open source, decentralization, creative commons.

How Socrates died? Like many others like him. These were very important people that challenged the establishment or status quo. They were unique and that's the problem, being different is what also set them apart. People, like Google itself (a company or a government is a group of individuals after all) will always choose to expand and defend their property or wealth. I understand your point, one should keep pushing, driving the hammer down, one day it will be clear as water for the rest. But back then, religion eased a lot of our questions, it was God's will, there were different castes and fate had power. Nowadays we are more alone each passing day, with the same or worse existential questions, depression and anxiety are a plague. Institutions like marriage is at an all time low, people in developing countries doesn't have any children and so many other issues. One can see this as growing pains as we change the old norms, but we are actually losing our "humanity" in the process, children are born in broken homes, people objectifying others, lack of empathy, nihilism, hedonism, promiscuity.

We can't seem to understand we are all in this together, that technological advances should be for the benefit of us all and not be ruled by only a few. However, in my opinion, only when we transcend (by becoming sentient machines perhaps?) the problems inherent in our very own nature (greed for wealth, wrath, loneliness, fear of death, vanity, etc) we will be able to discuss a different world.

We are perfect, because... we can describe how imperfect we are.

Any thoughts or descriptions of a better, perfect human falls into the construct of a living automaton. Re imitating Nature and the solutions Nature came up with, to make us perfect. The reason why we are never humble, and we have greed for wealth, wrath, loneliness, fear of death, vanity, never to be satisfied with what we have is because of one thing: the hunger in our belly and the fear to feel its pain. This is even true for the Digambara monks.

Unless you are working for google, on their D-Wave computer, next to ray kurzweil as his personal most valued assistant, developing the ultra top secret sentient module near to go online... We are both on the same perspective, only a few degrees apart. Google is the other point of view.

Corruption, fear, chauvinism, bigotry, prejudice: google, google, google, google, google...

Wilikon = Socrates? Hmmmm..... Grin Yes!! Finally!!!!!!

CC and (C) can live together next to each other. Transhumanism Tech should be CC, not (C)

Google will be the owner of your uploaded mind. That is the logical outcome.

Like water. Ineluctable. But not by force, not by driving a hammer down.

The more we become intelligent with our smart phones, the worse the existential questions, the multiplication of anti depression drugs, anti anxiety drugs. Our new perfection is a plague.

Looks like you've described why we should be worried of a google planet better than I would have ever said it myself.

We are already perfect sentient machines, copyright free, until google decides to get a patent on mind upload.

As much as I believe in the eradication of religion, I can't condone the shooting of innocent people for their beliefs.   Undecided

Me either.  Think people take some stuff a little to far.

...a little too far...

The nine victims killed in Thursday’s massacre at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon have been named by police.

Officials identified the nine as; Lucero Alcaraz, 19; Quinn Glen Cooper, 18; Kim Saltmarsh Dietz, 59; Lucas Eibel, 18; Jason Dale Johnson, 33; Lawrence Levine, 67; Sarena Dawn Moore, 44; Treven Taylor Anspach, 20; and Rebecka Ann Carnes, 18.

Shortly after reading the names of those who lost their lives, members of the police department read statements from some of the families.

They also revealed that the number of people injured during Thursday’s shooting was nine, not seven as previously reported.

The gunman, Chris Harper-Mercer, was also killed on Thursday by police.

Wouldn't you be safe as long as you just don't install the application?

I don't think that part would matter.  If they really wanted to piss everyone off and gain more traction (I think this is what they actually would want to do) I think if you aren't in the system already they would just make a new review and put your name on it which then they will make you apart of the system; whether you want to be on there or not.  This way, if/when you find out you are on there, it will make you want to get the app and dispute the bad claim or possibly just see what the person said.

But yeah, this is going to be bad... I can feel it.

Exactly. I cannot see anyone having made this app having good intentions. They seem to have "sold their soul" to get money. Make an app that teens, and tweens need to use because of peer pressure and the usual amount of "popular" people who will want to rate their friends to be on top, and then rag on the others, leading to the others to commit suicide or fall into depression.

This shouldn't be allowed. I'm against banning things, I believe in no censorship, except when it hurts someone. A profile for a person should not be able to be created without their consent. Period.

But that's obviously the point of this app from hell.

Yes. Facebook is good enough if you want to participate in it. How would the system know all those 5 stars reviews are saying how of a bad, evil human you are. It would not. They say a bad review won't be posted. Then people will post only 5 stars reviews, with bad comments in it. For adults it is pretty bad. For teens, female teens, it will be hell.

Illegal Immigrants Could Elect Hillary
How noncitizens decrease Republican chances of winning the White House next year.

Illegal immigrants—along with other noncitizens without the right to vote—may pick the 2016 presidential winner. Thanks to the unique math undergirding the Electoral College, the mere presence of 11-12 million illegal immigrants and other noncitizens here legally may enable them to swing the election from Republicans to Democrats.

The right to vote is intended to be a singular privilege of citizenship. But the 1787 Constitutional Convention rejected allowing the people to directly elect their President. The delegates chose instead our Electoral College system, under which 538 electoral votes distributed amongst the states determine the presidential victor. The Electoral College awards one elector for each U.S. Senator, thus 100 of the total, and D.C. gets three electors pursuant to the 23rd Amendment. Those electoral numbers are unaffected by the size of the noncitizen population. The same cannot be said for the remaining 435, more than 80 percent of the total, which represent the members elected to the House.

The distribution of these 435 seats is not static: they are reapportioned every ten years to reflect the population changes found in the census. That reallocation math is based on the relative “whole number of persons in each state,” as the formulation in the 14th Amendment has it. When this language was inserted into the U.S. Constitution, the concept of an “illegal immigrant,” as the term is defined today, had no meaning. Thus the census counts illegal immigrants and other noncitizens equally with citizens. Since the census is used to determine the number of House seats apportioned to each state, those states with large populations of illegal immigrants and other noncitizens gain extra seats in the House at the expense of states with fewer such “whole number of persons.”

This math gives strongly Democratic states an unfair edge in the Electoral College. Using citizen-only population statistics, American University scholar Leonard Steinhorn projects California would lose five House seats and therefore five electoral votes. New York and Washington would lose one seat, and thus one electoral vote apiece. These three states, which have voted overwhelming for Democrats over the latest six presidential elections, would lose seven electoral votes altogether. The GOP’s path to victory, by contrast, depends on states that would lose a mere three electoral votes in total. Republican stronghold Texas would lose two House seats and therefore two electoral votes. Florida, which Republicans must win to reclaim the presidency, loses one seat and thus one electoral vote.

But that leaves the electoral math only half done. The 10 House seats taken away from these states would then need to be reallocated to states with relatively small numbers of noncitizens. The following ten states, the bulk of which lean Republican, would likely gain one House seat and thus one additional electoral vote: Iowa, Indiana, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania.

There is what? 1 mass shooting a week? When should he talk about possible solutions? I never got the american fascination with guns. Are you safer because of them? Or have more freedom of speech than other western countries because of weapons?

Most people believe that they are safer because of them. Mass shootings tend to get a lot of attention. There is however no way to get attention to or even quantify the number of crimes prevented because people wore guns.

I see your point, but we can't help ourselves, we are driven by this force to reproduce, for our children to be "better" than us, more intelligent, more beatiful, wiser, etc. That's how we actually choose our partners. Self awareness is also what gives us ego and the illusion we are separated from nature and reality and that somehow we have the power to influence absolutely everything. In my opinion we do have power but to a certain extent, your body is the one doing the digestion, cures your ailments, knows when it needs to feed, etc. We are now discussing concepts extremely metaphysic here but there's no other way really.

As we can't all agree on what the human race should be, either for religious, moral, politics or different points of view, our own instincts will be the ones that take over. To me there's no other future where we eventually become machines or bio engineered gods. There will be plenty of opposition like in the past, but if you know, there are already serious scientists working on creating an artificial brain (not AI), imagine how that can be used, you can actually upload yourself if your brain dies. We already have the capacity for human cloning, but that was stopped on its tracks because of ethics. It's just a matter of time really and I'm talking of technology that really could be available in 20 years if we want to. Imagine what would happen in 200-300 or more.

Like in medicine, blood transfusions, surgeries, pacemakers, implants, transplants, were all taboos a while ago. In a century letting your body and brain degenerate will be like letting yourself die today because of a simple infection or procedure.

As human race we are (since millions of years) at war with nature, trying to transcend it via technology, prolonging our lifespan from 20 to 80 years, improving our quality of life in every aspect. Maybe our destiny is to become living gods eventually, perhaps even transcend the physical altogether. I don't think we have a choice, we may have a rational one depending on the era you live, but that doesn't last and it's subject to change.

We are not at war with Nature. Nature is not at war with us. We are not at war with the Sun and a sun tan, sun block lotion is not a weapon. Nature forces us to be better. Evolution, if you believe this to be true, is what made us better. When a lion wants to eat you, it is not at war with you. A blood transfusion is not at war with you, nor is a pacemaker.

The H.R. Giger's biomechanical vision of the human race should not be based on a .py file recreating the vision of a man, kurzweil whom I love a lot, a man afraid of his own mortality. And Google. Everything we use to make us live longer comes from Nature. We learn Nature. We learn its poisons and its miracles.  Not a war. A learning curve. The more we learn the less we are afraid of the dark.
You see it as a war because of your own mortality and the fact that you will die, not knowing the meaning of life. But this has nothing to do with nature, but more with the nature of man.

Our transformation, adaptation is a natural one, preparing us to spread all over the galaxy. Sure, it will take times. But if the embedded technology does not belong to you and you can't have access to its under layers, then you will be a product. Will you have to subscribe, just like you subscribe to cable TV monthly, to have the right to keep on living? Those are very basic questions google should be able to answer.

I am not telling you we should be afraid of linux, blender, gimp, javascript, html, tcp/ip. If ubuntu decides to push hard for open source robotic and transhumanism and everything can be checked and double checked, then I won't have a problem with it. Make every blueprints open source...

Have you heard of the stagefright bug?
https://startpage.com/do/dsearch?query=stagefright+bug&cat=web&pl=opensearch&language=english

Aren't you happy you own an iphone instead of an Android phone?

We should embrace what we understand to be a free technology to everyone at the same time, at any level/cast of society, like, you know... Bitcoin. That, we could agree on.

I did skip the uploading mind part in purpose because we do not know what consciousness is. Believe me, I love animes like Ghost in the Shell - Stand Alone Complex and their long ramblings on what consciousness is (is it a long list of memories, or more?)

But If I upload my consciousness into a Google server then... Who owns it?

TEAM TRUMP: ‘MORE GENUINE AND PRODUCTIVE WAYS’ TO SPEAK WITH HISPANICS THAN THROUGH PRO-AMNESTY CHAMBER GROUP

Billionaire and 2016 GOP frontrunner Donald Trump’s campaign says there are “more genuine and productive ways” to communicate with America’s Hispanic community than going through and empowering the pro-amnesty U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC).

Trump’s campaign team comments come as Trump will bypass a question-and-answer session hosted by the USHCC on Oct. 8—and will instead be speaking directly to Americans at a campaign rally in Nevada, where he expects to have a “capacity crowd.” This comes after the USHCC spokesman attacked Trump in an interview with Politico on Thursday—and after the group asked Trump for tens of thousands, perhaps millions, of dollars in a fee.

“Donald J. Trump today announced he will not be participating in the October 8th USHCC (United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce) Q&A, as requested by its President and CEO Javier Palomarez,” a Trump spokesperson said in an email.

Mr. Trump will be speaking to a capacity crowd at a campaign rally in Nevada on that date. Additionally, Mr. Palomarez continues to leverage the national media attention surrounding Mr. Trump to benefit his organization and exploit Mr. Trump to enlist additional support and increase interest and revenue in his coalition including asking Mr. Trump to join his chamber for a fee amounting to between $25,000 and $2 million dollars, which Mr. Trump refused to do. Mr. Trump remains committed to reaching out to the Hispanic Community in more genuine and productive ways as he continues to share his vision to Make America Great Again.

USHCC’s spokesman Ammar Campa-Najjar attacked Trump’s campaign for the presidency and his ideas for America in an interview with Politico on Thursday as “sad,” “absurd” and “broken.”

“We’re not going to go easy on him,” Campa-Najjar said in the Politico interview about the-then-still-thought-to-be-happening Oct. 8 event. “A lot of people think it’s just going to be this positive thing.”

“I’ve been tight-lipped for a while, but I’ve got to speak up now,” Campa-Najjar added. “It would be funny if it wasn’t so sad that this man is leading in the polls and that this is his idea for a fiscally responsible, fair and feasible plan for dealing with immigrants.”

Campa-Najjar attacked Trump’s immigration reform plan—which would build a Mexican-funded wall on the U.S. border with Mexico, deport every illegal alien in America, and put a focus on American workers rather than special interests when it comes to future immigration levels—in the interview as well.

“The deporting thing is so absurd that no one can get behind it and he needs to explain how that’s going to work,” he said.

Campa-Najjar also accused Trump of being unrealistic when he claims—as he often does on the campaign trail—that he’s doing well with Hispanics.

“When we talk to them, they give the impression they’re doing so well with Hispanics: ‘Oh Hispanics love me,’ and I think that’s, at best, out of touch with reality,” Campa-Najjar said of the Trump campaign.

The group’s stated immigration plan on its website, however, is exactly the opposite of Trump’s immigration reform plan. The USHCC wants to “pass a comprehensive bill to harness the economic enrichment immigrates bring,” and “reform the visa system to attract STEM talent as well as EB-5 economic investment” while creating “market-driven work programs and temporary visas,” and more pro-amnesty standpoints.

Trump, meanwhile, wants to focus on security first—and on the well-being of all Americans negatively impacted by high levels of foreigners in the U.S. labor pool, something that drives wages down and unemployment up.

Trump’s campaign’s point that the USHCC doesn’t speak for the Hispanic community—and that the Hispanic community, which is not a monolithic voting bloc entirely supportive of open borders immigration policies—is yet another reason why he’s head-and-shoulders ahead of the rest of the 2016 GOP field. He’s turning the establishment narrative that the loudest politically-motivated minority of a particular ethnic group somehow speaks for everyone from that ethnic group on its head. Trump has skyrocketed in the polls every time he lands—whether by his own doing or the doing of someone else—in one of these types of situations. Where things go from here could be interesting.

USHCC is certainly looking for a fight with Trump. When he announced he wasn’t going to the event, Campa-Najjar issued a scathing statement attacking the GOP frontrunner—alleging he wanted to change the rules of the forum for some kind of special treatment.

“Mr. Trump was unwilling to abide by the terms and conditions of the USHCC’s Presidential Candidate Q&A Series – the same rules that all participants have previously followed,” Campa-Najjar said. “The USHCC refused to change the format of the forum, show any favoritism, exclude any issues or topics, or grant any immunity from objective scrutiny of his policies.”

Hamburg to seize commercial property to house migrants

Hamburg has become the first German city to pass a law allowing the seizure of empty commercial properties in order to house migrants.

The influx of migrants has put pressure on the authorities of the northern city to find accommodation. Some migrants are sleeping rough outdoors.

Hamburg's law takes effect next week.

In a separate development, prosecutors filed charges of inciting racial hatred against a co-founder of the anti-Islamic Pegida movement.
The prosecutors in the eastern city of Dresden said they acted after Lutz Bachmann had on Facebook described asylum seekers "trash" and "animals".

Pegida (Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the Occident) members have staged a number of rallies in recent months, attracting tens of thousands of people.

Meanwhile, a new survey by broadcaster ARD said 51% of people admitted the influx of migrants scared them. It suggests a four-year low in Chancellor Angela Merkel's popularity.

She has said Germany can accommodate migrants who have genuinely fled war or persecution - a humanitarian gesture towards the many thousands risking their lives to reach Europe this year.

But many politicians - including her conservative Bavarian CSU allies and various EU partners - have criticised the open-door policy.

Hamburg's new law is described as a temporary, emergency measure. Owners of empty commercial properties will be compensated. The law does not include residential properties.

But the conservative opposition in the city, in the north of Germany, condemned the move.

The authorities in Bremen, a city just west of Hamburg, are considering passing a similar law.

Mass brawl

Germany expects to host at least 800,000 asylum seekers this year - about four times the number it had last year.

Many are from war-torn Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan. But the thousands arriving also include asylum seekers from Kosovo, Albania and other Balkan countries, whose claims are usually rejected.

On Thursday more than 200 migrants fought each other in a mass brawl at a reception centre in Hamburg-Bergedorf. Police said Syrians and Afghans were involved in the latest clash.

Similar fights have erupted at some other migrant centres in Germany. A bigger brawl took place near Kassel, in central Germany, at the end of September.

In Berlin, Munich, Hamburg and elsewhere the authorities have erected tented camps for migrants - but with winter approaching they are deemed too basic as communal housing.

There is hardly any accommodation left in Hamburg for migrants, who are entering the city at a rate of about 500 daily, ARD television reports.

The Hamburg region's leftist government - a coalition of Greens, Social Democrats (SPD) and Die Linke - says the new law will be in force until March 2017.

Confiscation will only take place if the property owner refuses to hand it over willingly in exchange for compensation.

In the Brandenburg region, in eastern Germany, the authorities have halted the demolition of old social housing blocks. Instead they will be refurbished to provide 4,000 flats for migrants, the daily Die Zeit reports.

Meanwhile Franconia, in north Bavaria, plans to build cheap modular units to house migrants for 10 years, after which they will be rented out as social housing for locals.
