I find all the murder stuff pathetic, not that I necessarily doubt his desire to do it.

1 - someone is willing to kill an anonymous stranger by walking into a situation they know nothing about on the word of another anonymous stranger.

2- make up a load of bollocks in return for a large amount of money with zero comebacks or risk.

I'd love to know if one single cold called 'dark market' assassination has taken place anywhere in the world.

More likely a bunch of 11 yr old scammers in Siberia have done rather nicely.

I'm in agreement with this.  I don't know about 11 year-olds in Siberia, I think it's more likely one of the various law enforcement agencies investigating Ulbricht were behind the Redandwhite account.  Which is probably why the government didn't think they could get a conviction for conspiracy to commit murder.  The way the discussion transcripts read, I think a good defense lawyer could get the all of that evidence thrown out since it looks a lot like entrapment.  There are arguments the the targets weren't real people, and also likely to be fabrications of the investigation teams.

However, in my opinion that doesn't absolve Ulbricht from actually trying (and paying) to have those people murdered.  That's probably why the judge allowed such a severe sentence for his other convictions.  It seems pretty clear that he was willing to kill people to preserve his ability to earn money, or prevent his identity from being leaked.  I don't know how anyone can justify that behavior.

My first girlfriend ever was from San Anselmo...  My girlfriend's parents nearly threw a fit when they found out we were - gasp - going to Oakland for a - double-gasp - RAVE.

Lol, Marin County is such a bubble.  I went to school with the children of Rock&Roll superstars and Hollywood actors, and you wouldn't believe what a sheltered life it was considering the "progressive" reputation of the county.  Hell, I thought the Grateful Dead was a bluegrass band until I was 17.  The fact that Mickey Hart had built a rifle range on his property just outside of town only fed that misconception.

Also anyway, go Niners! LOL.

Hell yeah!  Go 49ers!

I'm confident the 9ers will win, but I have a feeling the Packers are going to make a closer game of it this time around.  They aren't likely to repeat the embarrassment of their last meeting.

I picked the Titans to cover the spread in this weeks poll.  I don't think the Chiefs can repeat the trouncing they gave to the Texans.  Andy Reid is a great coach.  He knows how to maximize the talent of his players but a good strategy can compensate for pure talent.  I expect the Titans defense can keep it a one-score game.

No, no, no!  The Holy Hand Grenade comes from Antioch, which is on the other side of the bay.  Cheesy

Honestly never heard of that slight on san fransisco.  I used it more lazily as it's more shorthand to me.  What is the reason behind the slight and why residents dont like the shorthand?

San Francisco has had a few nicknames over the centuries but none that have really endeared themselves to the locals.  In fact "Frisco" is probably the oldest and yet, the one most despised by locals.  "San Fran" is not the worst one, but it just sounds funny.  I haven't lived in San Francisco proper since I was 7 years old, but I've spent most of my life within an hour's drive.  To us locals, it's "San Francisco" or simply "The City."  "SF" is a common abbreviation in writing, but hardly ever used in conversation.

Most San Franciscans are proud of the city; it's a beautiful chunk of real estate, nestled in one of the most beautiful regions of the planet.  I think there's just a sentiment that it's such a beautiful place it deserves the use of it's full name.  No shortcuts or laziness allowed when invoking it's name.  And don't get me wrong, it's more of a light-hearted, humorous debate than it is derisiveness.  Almost a way for locals to laugh at themselves for "taking themselves so seriously."

I'm really hoping that my futures bets on the Chiefs and Packers come through for me. I am thinking about hedging on the Titans as they are the dark horse and I do think they can cause an upset so I have taken them early on to cover the spread. If Titans win, then I think 49ers win.

I was relieved when the Titans knocked out the Ravens, I really didn't want it to be a repeat of Super Bowl 47.  But now, I'm thinking that it's the Titans that scare me the most.  One of the things that sets the 49ers apart is their strategic planning, but Vrabel has shown in recent weeks the he can strategize with the best of them.  The titans have been pretty darn impressive, I can see them upsetting the Chiefs this weekend.

It’s pretty difficult to tell. I’ve gone briefly over a list of accounts created from the 01/01/2019 onwards, that have received at least 20 sMerits (https://public.tableau.com/shared/G2XFMK2PP?:display_count=y&:origin=viz_share_link), and numerically, @Ratimov seems the best candidate, even more so having been created during mid-June 2019. Content wise is difficult to say due to the language barrier, but the structure and detail of the posts seems rather good. There are a few other forum members that have excellent numbers, who also have a large local board tradition (making it pretty impossible to compare content).

If you have some potential candidates that you're unable to gauge thoroughly due to language, you can post it them as "possibilities."  Maybe other members who frequent the same local boards will help with the assessment.

san fran

Off Topic:

Just a little snippet of trivia for you guys, and warning if you ever find yourselves visiting Northern California; don't call it "San Fran," it pisses off the natives.  I heard Aaron Rodgers utter those words after beating the Seagulls last Sunday, and being a NorCal native himself he knows full well what a snub that is to The City and it's denizens.  I'm sure he picked those words very carefully knowing how it would make us cringe.

But even though he was being a bit of a troll, he didn't go full troll and call it "Frisco."  That would be unforgivable, and might cause Emperor Norton to turn in his grave.

Quote
Whoever after due and proper warning shall be heard to utter the abominable word "Frisco," which has no linguistic or other warrant, shall be deemed guilty of a High Misdemeanor, and shall pay into the Imperial Treasury as penalty the sum of twenty-five dollars.

The guy is a total douchebag, he carries some weird kind of self importance. Didn’t he once call himself one of the best players in the world? He really was useless.

Well okay, then.  Sounds like someone who's not a Gunners fan is still a little bitter, and holding a grudge from the 2000's.

3470  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Ledger Live (Nano S): How to create regular segwit adresses instead of natives? on: January 16, 2020, 09:17:24 PM
OMG how unprofessionel from ledger (I am shocked )! But thx for information. The ledger live app is very buggy as well and now this too -.-

Actually I dont want to use a new kind of wallet but it seems to be the only way. I would handle it the follow: get BTC on the electrum segwit adress -> send them to the ledger native segwit adress. Does this work?

Once you've installed and launched Electrum it will walk you through creating a new wallet.  It will want to give your first wallet the name "default_wallet," but you can overwrite that and give it any name you want.

On the first option page select "Standard wallet," then "Use a hardware device."  The following page will ask you to select a device, pick your Ledger.  The next page is where you'll select the type of wallet you want to create:

You can also choose the native segwit option and have access to the same wallet accounts you have set up on Ledger Live.  There's no need to go back and forth between Ledger Live an Electrum.

The image above shows the derivation path for p2sh account number 1.  If you change the last "0" in the string to "1" that will give you access to account number 2, so on and so forth.  You can do this for each address convention, legacy, nested setwit, and native segwit.
3471  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Ledger Live (Nano S): How to create regular segwit adresses instead of natives? on: January 16, 2020, 08:44:06 PM
Like OmegaStarScream said, I don't believe Ledger Live allows you to create a Bip49 (p2sh) segwit account.  You can use Electrum to access your hardware wallet, which allows the creation of any address type.

If you do use Electrum, make sure to download it only from the official site, and verify the download.

Make up your mind, which is it?

This loan is only to create reputation

I really need the amount to pay some bills

I have creat a loan request in this site:

https://stemfund.com/loan-auction/1431/

This loan is only to create reputation, if you can help. I Will pay after 1 weeky of fundadion.

There is so much wrong with this I don't know where to begin.

1. Unfamiliar site on which the lender must register (unlikely to happen.)
2. You don't qualify for an unsecured loan here, why would you qualify for one on another site?
3. You've indicated that you don't have a reputation on the other site.
4. You want a loan to "create reputation" which is a HUGE red-flag.
5. Which brings up the question; why are you trying to develop a reputation?

3477  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: recovering seed from address on: January 15, 2020, 10:42:42 PM
Using the Ian Coleman Bip39 tool is probably going to be easier and faster than repeated attempts in Electrum, but I would download the source code, and only use it on a clean computer.  With the Ian Coleman tool you can enter the seed and alternately change out the questionable words until you find the address you're looking for.

The other question you should ask your friend is to try and remember if he set up a Bip39 Passphrase on his Ledger, and if so, he may have attached it to a secondary PIN.  If he did create a passphrase, he may not have written it down on the same piece of paper as the seed, if he wrote it down at all.  A Bip39 passphrase would generate a completely different wallet and addresses that are not accessible with the seed phrase alone.
3478  Other / Off-topic / Re: You may win 1 (one!!!!) whole merit if you guess cryptohunter's new username on: January 15, 2020, 10:20:19 PM
I will join in if you make it more than 1 merit.

Wouldn't that amount to an observable instance of merit abuse?
3479  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano X vs. Nano S on: January 15, 2020, 10:11:44 PM
I also wrote a caparison review in Lucius' review thread.  For my needs (bitcoin maximalist) and considering how infrequently I travel without a computer, I came to the conclusion that the Nano S serves the purpose.  I actually prefer the competition's hardware wallet for various reasons, but that's a personal decision that amounts to six in one and half dozen in the other.

If the extra expense for the Nano X isn't a big deal for you, it's a nicer unit and you won't be disappointed.  I will say that the bigger screen is easier on my aging eyes.  The various upgrades do make the Nano X worth the extra expense, but like anything, only if you put them to use.  If the money is an issue for you, and you don't own a bunch of alt-coins stick with the Nano S.
3480  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Capitalism vs. Socialism - Make your argument here. on: January 15, 2020, 03:33:43 PM
A couple of recent threads saw us going off topic and we found ourselves arguing the merits of capitalism vs. pitfalls of socialism.   Grin

Can you guess where I stand on the issue?  If not I'll tell you.  Freedom is not compatible with socialism, and I'm more inclined to remain free and provide for myself than I am to accept handouts and be enslaved.

What about you?

Socialism keeps check of distribution , much maintains an oligopoly market, keeps check of prices , inflation and laws of land and labor. Socialism for me is fairer as compared to capitalism. Giving too much power to privates can turn one selfish as it is finally about making money and earning profits.

Just two questions:  Was it fairness that motivated Henry Ford, Steve Jobs, and Bill Gates?  Is your life better as a result of their motivation?

Human nature trumps fairness.  Every one of us wants more than "the other guy," and some of us have an abundance of skill, intellect, and motivations to achieve.  If you truly care about fairness, then what makes you think you are entitled to share in the accomplishments of others?  To me that sounds absurdly unfair.
