3461  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: RX 570 : MSI Armor vs Asus Expedition on: July 03, 2017, 11:50:36 PM
Armor cards are pretty bad even at stock (pretty much the bare minimum for cooling but it's OK). Both cards aren't the best but I'd probably go for the Asus card. The MSI Armor is also one of the """cheapest""" RX 570s out there for system builders, a reason why more are hitting the market today (people buying whole PCs, selling gpu and getting cheaper one).
3462  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Difficulty contest. prize 2 ltc 1 compac usb stick. Picks are yet to open. on: July 03, 2017, 11:43:53 PM
This new spike is scary. It's almost vertical.
Bitmain & friends turned a few miners off so difficulty increase was marginal last difficulty period and turned on the miners previously off and then some. If you disregard that then the growth seems pretty normal, i have a feeling it's going to be in the teens in terms of growth this time.

chart clearly shows 1000ph popped on in a day or two

that is 77 s-9's for each ph
or  77,000 s-9's

The sudden drop during that period with declining hashrate was a little bit odd still, perhaps a farm swapping out S7s for S9? They're still profitable even for me but perhaps they're trying to get the latest hardware. Could even be the reason why the current batch of S9 is temp sold out. They chose a good time to put in new miners or swapping out old ones either way, was definitely planned.
3463  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: S9's sold out on: July 03, 2017, 11:18:52 PM
...
Yeah, you are right, but the current 220+ days for ROI is a really long time. Of course if the bitcoins skyrocket to 5000$ then that would be a very different story ! Smiley
Only in the crypto coin world would 'ROI' (and apparently defined here as purchase-price being recovered) in 220 days be called 'a long time'. Capital equipment purchased for any other business is usually looking at well over 1 year and more until break-even is reached... Why do you think we are allowed to write off cost of equipment/depreciation?
Plus, if in the USA there is this Section 179 IRS deduction

You are also totally right ! 220 days is fine for ROI, problem with ASIC is the devaluation that is really fast. And when I say 220 days, it is at current dificulty. So, it's a bit difficult to predict the real ROI. I prefer video card mining since when they don't produce anymore revenue by mining, they are still valuable and could be reused for gaming. ASIC become a waste really fast compare to video cards.
Still, this could all change quickly. Remember 2014 and the Litecoin craze? Everybody bought up 200 series AMD cards and once it all collapsed AMD was forced to rebrand the 200s as 300 series cards as they couldn't get them off their hands. ETH is designed to be asic-proof but it is soon to become POS and it is still unclear whether or not other coins will still be profitable with so many cards mining on them. Even recently the profitability on Nvidia cards has dropped, I recall someone saying profit on GTX 1080TIs went from eight bucks a day to around five recently. With all the media coverage like on YT and newbies coming into play like never before, it's becoming increasingly risky to GPU mine.
3464  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Order on amazon on: July 03, 2017, 10:07:38 PM
so the answer is I will never get my GPUs? hmmm, wish I wouldn't have ordered the rest of my components...
No, the date is a placeholder and you will get your GPU but they probably don't know when it arrives either, like the guy above said, you'll just have to wait until it arrives.
3465  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Most inefficient miner? on: July 03, 2017, 09:44:04 PM
Cointerra Terraminers and possibly S4 can work as well, although the former is known to break easily (although it does have liquid cooling and can be bought for sub-200 most of the time).

3467  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: S9's sold out on: July 03, 2017, 07:19:15 PM
Considering the likely slower development of future nodes and less efficiency gains along with that, the S9 could well be an ASIC we see well into 2018. They're probably going to make more of them, at least until the S7 becomes obsolete.
3468  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: AMD cards hashrate drop after Epoch 140 on: July 03, 2017, 04:38:29 PM
This issue is really a concerning, i see that nobody is buying rx 580, the rx 570 is hard to see around but rx 580 there are plenty available and I hear there will be a huge stock coming in of rx 580 everywhere, buying gtx 1070 at exorbitant prices is still the best alternative.
What? The 580 sure is available but at ridiculous prices, and the uninformed newbies watching YouTube sure are buying em. What will happen is going to be the same thing that happens when restocks come in:

1) Bots buy all they can
2) Miners use the GPUs or resell at ridiculous prices

No matter how many they put out, there's always people buying or reselling higher. Nvidia is overpriced as you said but still available.
3469  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Release dates for "mining" specific GPU cards? on: July 03, 2017, 04:35:44 PM
They are available NOW, at least in china.

These cards are for serious farm owners, it is their answer to the shortage.

They don't want low volume customers.

And once the market is saturated and mining isn't that profitable they wont produce these anymore I assume, AND these cards will have 0 value to anyone but a miner.

I read that one of the ASUS cards will be available to the general public.  Not sure about the ones that are currently out or the NVIDIA cards.  Yeah, I read that the resell value won't be as good because you won't be able to sell on the gamer after market.
Even if they are available to us normal folks, the cards will sell out in a couple seconds on most sites anyways if the price is halfway decent. Resale isn't good, but on the cards that at least have DVI they can still be used. Haven't seen one with Display port yet, which is probably a deal breaker for any potential gamer in the future.
3470  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Review of Canaan support, warranty, controller, and A741 on: July 03, 2017, 02:10:43 PM
How noisy is the A741 compared to the S9?

The s9 is say 75db vs the 741 is 72 db

But the s9 has nasty pitch .

And some times a fucking whistle sound that is really bad.  I suspect it is due to the heatsinks used inside.

Many are offset .

The s9 is pretty much a pos compared to the Avalon 741.

But if you get a good one that does not break they are better.

Of the 11 I have had .four have not had any issues in a year.  The other 7 needed repairs.

Wow,7 out of 11 had problems ??  Kinda like my odds at the Casino  Cheesy

Glad I'm not an ASIC whore anymore,my vid cards rock & with a 3 year warranty, even a free ship label sent to me  Cool
I still stick with Bitcoin, although I have put a few Radeon cards in my PC for mining when i'm not using it. I still enjoy ASIC mining but I fear it's slowly coming to an end for us home miners and the big corporations and farms will centralize the entire mining business (As we can already see with Bitmain and Avalon distributing the only 'effective' ASICs now).
3471  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Gigabyte 1070 itx and Msi aero 1070 itx on: July 03, 2017, 02:08:11 PM
That is 440 for each card, right?
3472  Economy / Speculation / Re: WALL Observer : BTC/USD price tracking and discussion (Phoenix Revision). on: July 03, 2017, 02:06:34 PM
Pre-Segwit pump inc ?
That is possible. Good to have a high price pre-segwit anyways as it'll be unsafe to spend around 1st August and price may dip a little then, although I see the price going up still before that happens. I'm just hoping we can climb back to 2800 again before setting sights to 3000 or 4000.
3473  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer: BTC/USD Price Tracking and Discussion 2.0 (Unmoderated) on: July 03, 2017, 11:18:51 AM
Wall Observer Coin
lol and largely agreed

^ref your earlier discussion - how to get (back) into bitcoin - and the advice you were given - dollar cost averaging - thought this might amuse/interest you/all/some: http://trilema.com/2017/the-universal-plan-for-wealth/

my main takeaway for the purposes of this thread -
it's incredibly goddamn bullish - a kid scrapes together $20k worth of btc now ... puts in some not very hard work ... is a wealthy man in ... ?several years' time.
20k becomes what 200mil? in today's terms

i'd bet most of us want to believe roughly that sort of growth for the price, even if my definition of wealthy is an order of magnitude more than the next guy's

if we are right, then the dollar will decline so sharply at some - nearish-by - point
that dollar-cost averaging will no longer be a way in to bitcoin for the average working stiff

That's actually going to be pretty good for Bitcoin if the dollar declines as it could actually be used for daily transactions, assuming SW and Lightning get implemented. Good thing I already have my foot in the door and don't buy as much as I used to.
3474  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: $40 000 to invest, is there money to make in mining? on: July 03, 2017, 11:15:04 AM
Most R9 cards work, even the 290X or 290 which are essentially the same as the 390 and 390X as AMD got stuck with a lot of old Hawaii chips back when Scrypt mining died back in around 2014 IIRC. The lower end cards don't mine as fast, like the R7 370, but for the right price they can still make you decent amounts of money. Remember that efficiency is King in mining and you will have no problem.
3475  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: A diff contest picks are closed. 1.5 ltc prize with a sidehack compac on: July 02, 2017, 04:56:18 PM
Glad I live in a place where it's not too hot for mining, or I just have resilient S7s. Winter will likely bring about another large rise in difficulty, but I hope that won't happen.
3476  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [HARDWARE] [AMD DEDICATED MINING GPU] on: July 02, 2017, 11:19:36 AM
Non-Samsung 4GB card is back in stock one per person:

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202291

I think Newegg is holding back the inventory they have of these mining cards. They have been listing them at different times throughout the week.
And instantly out again. There's no use with the one per person thing considering you can hold multiple addresses and easily buy a couple of these things (let your friend receive it, etc.)
3477  Economy / Speculation / Re: WALL Observer : BTC/USD price tracking and discussion (Phoenix Revision). on: July 01, 2017, 09:03:41 PM
The good news is the MEMpool : almost empty (1,5 blocks of delayed transactions = ~3500 transactions).

The bad news : Bear trap ahead (China Exchange flat line).

https://coinmarketcap.com/ is already RED ...
That's because Jihan and Co. have reached their intended goal already and there's no need to waste more money spamming the mempool. Sad but that's how it works now, I hope we can break the iron fist of the mining companies one day but it's unlikely given the way things have been going recently..
3478  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: BAIKAL asic mine 2000MH/s on: July 01, 2017, 04:37:13 PM
I love Baikal miner, but is impossible tu buy them, they are always "Out of stock" .

W_M

isn't this a good thing? the diff won't increase anymore if they are out of stock, unless of course they are mining with the baikal that they produce, and then say they are out of stock lol, some company do this, if there is still good profit to be made
They definitely are mining themselves or selling locally with the huge margins of profit these miners are making, even the first gen 150MH miner. Why sell internationally when you can (1) mine yourself and make insane profit, or (2) sell locally without the hassle of customs and shipping?
3479  Economy / Speculation / Re: WALL Observer : BTC/USD price tracking and discussion (Phoenix Revision). on: July 01, 2017, 03:55:16 PM
I'll definitely be sitting on my coins till August 1, even if there are rocky seas ahead. The outcome may not be what we expect but at the very least I see us breaking $3000 after that. What happens before is not going to have a huge impact unless some exchange gets hacked again or a major bug.
3480  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is my hashrate low? HD 7950 on: July 01, 2017, 01:47:13 AM
If you're not dedicated mining Nicehash can help squeeze the most out of your mining card. Guessing you own a 2/3GB card which can't really fit ETH dag anymore, Nicehash should help a bit to find the best algo automatically or go to ZEC.
