I've talked about this at least once before but don't mind talking about it again because it's a major change in the way I've lived for the past 5 years or so since moving to a new country and taking up freelancing work seriously.

But if you're not North American or European, and move around a lot, PayPal doesn't like you. Account freezes and verification became more common over the years, particularly I'd say after 2010 (?) as I remember frequently having to reverify myself, getting balances unblocked, and they'd even stay blocked for months at times. Frustrating af.

When I first tried out Bitcoin, it took a while to convince clients to pay with it but I offered discounted rates. 5%, 10%, to make it worth their while, but also later discovered more and more clients willing and eager to get things done faster with Bitcoin.

Don't remember the exact turning point but at least since 2018, Bitcoin is virtually the only way I get paid for my freelance work, and I've converted countless others along the way.

So Bitcoin's made it possible for me, a person from the Global South to say goodbye to the fked up financial system that discriminates against me, to participate as a regular person just trying to make ends meet.

Yeah, I only heard about it while watching Champions League, the game where Griezmann scored in 12 min injury time, and then the commentator was discussing how he played 50+ mins in that game giving Simeone a headache in the next game. Then it was revealed about that time.

Right after the game also Griezmann himself said it was difficult to sit on the bench wanting to play but knowing you can only play a certain amount of time. He wasn't complaining but you could see he was very frustrated about it.

I feel it's sort of unsportsmanlike too, that business gets into the spirit of the game. Same as those teams that sub on a player for just enough minutes to make sure they get their "medal" if they win a tournament, or # of caps in contracts, etc.

Haven't popped in here for a while. Never attended a conference -- not physical anyway, plenty of digital ones because of work and it's a completely different thing to be online -- but had a fair share of meetups.

Always awkward for me initially but I find that Bitcoiners are some of the warmest, friendliest, least assuming people. Maybe I'm lucky too, but yeah, be yourself. It's okay not to talk about Bitcoin all the time, although the easiest ice-breaker is always I guess how your Bitcoin story started.

But I always met for a specific purpose: exchange a Bitcoin-related item, trade/buy, some Bitcoin-related thing (like this Bitcoin post chain I did a couple of years back), even a poker event, but never really just a meetup for the sake of meeting up.

Nothing special, really, but cool people, in my fortunate experience.

I don't really know what web3 is to be fair, but I do understand "web3" as a complete internet ecosystem which includes, or is enabled by and with "cryptocurrency". To my understanding, that does include Bitcoin as well (not as a pegged or layered system but for example, I've seen Lightning apps labelled under an extension of Web3.

Of course, definitions aren't clear to me, e.g. web3 wallets are anything but Bitcoin clients =)

Yeah, it's a bit complicated and I don't know the details but apparently Barca had a clause in the contract that if Atletico play him for 50% of the games he's available for, they need to cough up an additional 20 million euros, something like that. They played him so much already that now to ensure he doesn't play more than 50% of available game time, he has to play less than 30 minutes per game, so they've put subbed him in every game after 62 min mark, something like this. Crazy modern times huh?
