3481  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Which Popular Wallets Have: "Master Public Key" on: June 08, 2019, 08:19:57 PM
The blockchain.com wallet is deterministic, meaning a master public key can be used to calculate all the addresses associated with the wallet.

I also believe the Lightning wallets that allow you to control your private keys all are deterministic as well, such as Peach wallet, Zap, Eclair, and others.

Other desktop deterministic wallets include Bitcoin Core, and Armory. Any wallet that generates a "seed" is using a "Master Public Key". I don't think there are many wallets that will generate a collection of individual addresses anymore.
3482  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Poloniex's taking money from its customers to cover its loss on: June 08, 2019, 08:11:56 AM
At the high, the marketcap of Clam was about 8585 BTC, and at the May 25 low, the marketcap fell to about 1939 BTC, or a difference of about 6645 BTC. Poloniex allows for 2.5x margin trading, which means the value of the margin longs, plus the value of the collateral was just under 35% of all Clam outstanding. This is assuming all margin long positions were opened at the high and sold at the low, that margin was maxed out on all positions, and all positions were secured entirely by Clam.

The losses exceed the trading volume of Clam during the flash crash, so it is probably safe to assume not all positions were sold immidiately. If no Clams were sold, and their value was written down to zero, as few as 21% of Clams outsanding could have been in open positions. I would believe that Poloniex sold the open Clams positions they were unable to sell in the open market, probably at a fairly large discount.

Poloniex is the only major exchange Clam trades on, so any major price action would have occured on Poloniex. Overall, the losses are the result of poor risk management on the part of Poloniex. They should not have allowed such a large percentage of coins outstanding to be bought in margin long positions. I also suspect they initially were automatically closing out margin positions in mass before someone pulled the plug to automatic licquidations that probably caused a large portion of the price decline.

I don't think this would have happened on a more professional exchange.
3483  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Socialism is so bad that it allows poor people to live. Horrible true story on: June 07, 2019, 09:04:10 PM
private healthcare can be effectively managed.

The places that appear to work best for the people are state systems with a private insurance element like France, Norway or Switzerland.

Nearly 18% of US GDP goes on health spending. That doesn't sound very private to me. That's a higher figure than the commiest of commies.
socialist countries you cite pay less for the same service provided. They are not operating a free market.

There are also pervasive incentives for healthcare consumers in the US that are mainly caused by a third party payor system. The government gets to decide what healthcare services their citizens receive.
3484  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Run and own your personal Bitcoin full node! on: June 07, 2019, 08:59:30 PM
It sounds a lot like you are proposing to run a service to run full nodes on behalf of your customers. It would be unnecessary to run a node for each of your customers if they are not running the nodes themselves. There are currently many “light wallets” that obtain information from a full node that feed information to many other light wallets.
3485  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Socialism is so bad that it allows poor people to live. Horrible true story on: June 07, 2019, 07:01:12 AM
Despite the obvious fact that a privileged person in capitalism will be personally better off than they would in socialism without their privilege.

This statement pretty much sums up the mentality of Socialists and Communists. It is not really about improving the quality of life for themselves or others, it is about coveting what others have and wanting to take it from them to create some sort of perverted sense of "equality" where everyone is equally impoverished and enslaved. This is why Socialism and Communism are inherently totalitarian, because they can not exist without taking from people what they have, earned or received by chance of birth.

No it doesn't have to take away.  Socialism can start by fairly allocating everything that is produced going forward.
That would be taking away the means of production from those that own it. If someone previously invested in equipment that produces goods, "fairly allocating everything that is produced going forward" would reduce the value of that equipment down to zero.
3486  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Youtube starts campaign of mass censorship and demonetization on: June 07, 2019, 06:50:34 AM
It is incredibly ironic that Google announced their censorship only one day after the 30th anniversary of Tiananmen Square.

I bet those cunts probably wanted to do it the day of, and some PR weasel had to talk them out of it.
I would consider both to be very similar. Both are telling that dissent is not allowed nor will be tolerated, and the intent is to get more people to speak in line with "official messaging"
3487  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: LocalBitcoins Cash-in-person trades removed? on: June 07, 2019, 06:30:19 AM
The reason they do not move to another jurisdiction may be the profitability of online trades vs. face to face cash trades.

The advent of KYC requirements on LocalBitcoins  may reduce instances of claims of hacked bank accounts because the identity associated with both accounts will either match, or if they don't match, LocalBitcoins can make a Law Enforcement referral when a particular buyer is using hacked accounts to pay for coin and his identity is known.

KYC will also prevent scammers and fraudsters from creating multiple LocalBitcoins accounts to use hacked accounts to buy coins multiple times.
3488  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Youtube starts campaign of mass censorship and demonetization on: June 07, 2019, 06:22:18 AM
YouTube has begun to censor mainstream political voices they do not agree with.

YouTube is censoring videos and channels that align with 30% of Voters, based on Gallop poll party self identification data, and the majority of American voters based on the 2016 presidential election results. Yet, by one metric, YouTube has a >76% market share, and by another metric, Google has a >90% market share.

I do not believe YouTube is censoring these political voices because they fear loosing advertisers, they wish to influence political opinions, and how Americans think. If conservative voices cannot speak, or be easily heard, they have no opportunity to convince other voters to change their own opinions.

Only a small number of people are being censored, but the message is being heard, loud and clear by many others who are not being censored. The message being heard is, if you run a successful YouTube channel with a conservative voice, you run the risk of being censored. Being that many who run successful YouTube channels earn a living, in large part by ad revenue from their YouTube videos, those with conservative beliefs, will choose to either move the viewpoints of their channels to the left, or will move the content of their channels away from politics in order to save their income. Trying to move their channel to other video streaming sites will only result in the channel authors from loosing out on the majority of their income. Most people will choose to choose to stay with Google so they can continue feeding their family.

There is nothing free market about this. It is incredibly ironic that Google announced their censorship only one day after the 30th anniversary of Tiananmen Square.

Those being censored by YouTube do not have "unpopular" speech, they have speech that YouTube does not like.
3489  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Does Token LEO of Bitfinex Exchange have the potential as BNB? on: June 07, 2019, 05:47:57 AM
Bitfinex asks 25k $ for opening an account which is impossible for most of us.
This is not true. There are no account equity minimums to start trading on bitfinex. I believe you do need a verified account to buy LEO via bitfinex.

The primary advantage of LEO is the fee reductions for trading, and lending on bitfinex. Bitfinex will also use 27% of profits, and the majority of money recovered from the 2016 hack, and from Crypto Capital to buy back LEO tokens at market prices.
3490  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: LocalBitcoins Cash-in-person trades removed? on: June 06, 2019, 11:58:03 PM
It sounds like these services should consider segregating their EU customers from everyone else. Run a second platform and prohibit EU customers from the main one.
It's either that, or continue degrading services for everyone across the globe. Undecided

I wish they'd just move to a friendlier jurisdiction. What's their breaking point?
It could be that in person cash trades are not very profitable. The cost and difficulty of mediating disputes for in person trades is probably much higher than online trades. All the scams involving in person cash trades doesn't do their reputation any good either.
3491  Other / Meta / Re: Should beginner and help section be moved to the top of the forum? on: June 06, 2019, 11:14:24 PM
One option could be for users under 15 activity to default to viewing the Beginners & Help section when logging in. They would be free to read and post in other sections freely, but this would encourage those who are new to bitcoin to ask questions in the appropriate section.

Another option could be to place the Beginners section at the top, but only for users with under 15 activity.
3492  Economy / Lending / Re: LoyceV's Legendary Little Lightning Loans on: June 06, 2019, 07:25:07 AM
I was unable to find a non-custodial mobile wallet that doesn’t require a connection to a local LN wallet/node to operate.
Eclair connects to a node that you choose. I started with one of the more or less default nodes (ACINQ NODE).
A custodial wallet isn't necessarily a bad thing, especially if you only use it for small payments and don't risk too much on it. It might actually be an easier way to start with LN.
I don't have an android device, so Eclair is not an option for me.

A custodial LN wallet does have some real world advantages, such as giving the end user free inbound liquidity, and allowing the end user to only send one transaction to the custodian instead of having to open many channels with many nodes. If the custodian is well connected in the LN, the end user may also have less failed transactions.

The business model of custodians could be to use coin received by their users to open channels with liquidity they charge for. It is not clear this is the case with BlueWallet.

Presently, it is very difficult to judge if any custodial wallet is a scam. If any particular custodial wallet service gets very popular, they may become the target of hackers, and their operational model will require them to keep the majority of coin in a hot wallet type environment.
3493  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: About Block Bitcoin with 1 transaction... on: June 05, 2019, 10:07:42 PM
The miner who “finds” a block will be rewarded in two ways

1) The block subsidy that decreases by half every approximately 4 years (every 210,000 blocks). It was originally 50 btc per block, was later reduced to 25 btc per block, and is now 12.5 btc per block. In about a year, it will be further reduced to 6.25 btc per block.

2) transaction fees paid by users of bitcoin. In order to get the miner to confirm transactions users include a fee that goes to the miner who includes the transaction in their found blocks.

If the miner doesn’t include any transactions in their found blocks except the Coinbase transaction, he will only be compensated with the block subsidy described in 1 above.
3494  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Where do you stand on abortion? Let's have a civil debate. on: June 05, 2019, 09:55:57 PM
If the baby could survive outside of the womb, there is no legitimate reason to need an abortion.

No, you cannot do whatever you want with your body. This is no different than laws against a person using their fist (part of your body to punch someone in the face, except the consequences of an abortion are much worse to the victim.

If the fetus can survive outside of the womb, the baby can be delivered early and taken care of.

If there is a reason why you don’t want to have a baby, and you end up pregnant, you need to make a decision quickly. There is no reason to delay getting an abortion until the baby is born as some on the left want to be legal and common.

Couldn't agree more! Specially on the part that if through fetus is viable, there's no reason to abort it. Pro-choicers would consider even a viable fetus as a parasite and will support abortion on it which I consider murder Smiley
The governor of Virginia was talking on radio several months ago about allowing abortion up until immediately prior to birth, and if the baby survived and was born alive, the baby would be killed.

I can’t imagine how anyone could possibly think that is okay. I also imagine this would be unconstitutional under the due process clause in favor of the baby.

I think in most cases, you should not get an abortion if you are pregnant, but I think it is a very fair compromise to limit abortion to until the baby is viable in its own. I am interested to hear an argument that would oppose this viewpoint.

Oh my God! My sister decided to copy messages from her first account, which was immediately frozen. I am very ashamed, forgive me for disturbing you. It was nice to be part of your forum, tell me if I can count on a softer sentence? I'm really sorry ...
I don’t know if the “sister” excuse is one that should be believed, probably not.

If you want to increase the chances of being allowed to return, you should explain what you have contributed in the past. What benefit would there be to you being allowed to participate again? What benefit have others realized to your previous participation?

3497  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is Blockchain the solution to the whole abortion drama? on: June 05, 2019, 01:43:52 PM
No, this is a ridiculous suggestion. The author of the article is an extremist trying to scare people into voting a certain way (for pro-abortion politicians).

It isn’t possible to enforce the authenticity of information provided and someone could claim to have a period in order to get around laws.

3498  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [OFFICIAL]Bitfinex.com first Bitcoin P2P lending platform for leverage trading on: June 05, 2019, 02:33:09 AM
bitfinex similarly operated as an unlicensed money transmitter for ~4 years until they finally prohibited americans. that's one potential charge against them. but it seems like the feds are more interested in market manipulation, which stems from activities in 2017.
The NYAG disagrees with this:

I looked through the last couple of pages in 'Beginners & Help' and found a lot of threads whose primary goal I believe to affect the search results rankings of a website/domain linked in the thread. These threads copy from the cited link, and add no additional content or commentary, and are low effort, but don't qualify as plagiarism because they cite a source.

3500  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Charity Fund on: June 05, 2019, 12:20:08 AM
I think the poll should be taken before the funds are collected. I am leery of giving funds to a charity fund and after the poll, it ends up being for a cause that I don't agree with.
I would agree with this statement. In addition to being a little annoyed about getting panhandled for money, I would be ticked off if any money I did give as part of my tithe went to something I did not wish to support.

I could also give money to a charity of my own choice on my own.
