What is the status on GPU mining of this coin? Anybody tried either working on GPU miner or at least examined the feasibility of creating one?

Yes, back in February a bounty was issued to develop one, and here it is: https://github.com/prettyhatemachine/sph-sgminer

Darkcoin is #3 as far as volume for last 24 hours, only behind BTC and LTC. Watchout! DRK could take over LTC spot very quickly!

It is Darkcoin rightful place. LTC became ASIC b!tch and its going down .

LTC is still a functional coin... What makes it unusable? Pretty sure there are a bunch of ASICs hashing BTC...

Miners live in their own cryptobubble... just because they can't mine a coin as well "it's dead"... lol. We all know that BTC *really* died when ASICs came onboard, lol.

Then again, LTC "sold" itself as the solution to the |ASIC problem" and failed. So, in a sense, it fails to deliver on it's core promise.

DRK, on the other hand, makes no promise for long-term ASIC resistance (as litecoin devs admitted, anything GPU mineable is ASIC-able) neither is ASIC immunity its main selling point.

The competitors are scrambling for FUD now that Darkcoin's price is gaining the traction it deserves.

Since a hard fork will come, there was someone a few pages earlier that said that there is an issue with Litecoin and Worldcoin networks conflicting with the Darkcoin network because something in the Darkcoin code wasn't changed (?), creating problems. Might include that as well along with masternode + dgw3 (?).

Its obviously going to be dumped at some point in the next 24-48 hours, so yes I'm waiting - the question is, how many jump off and what will the price be? I'm thinking it will likely drop back to 0.0025 but maybe we have some pumpers who will hold and it won't drop that low - thoughts?

This is not a coin like BC. You can wait until you are black.
This is DRK - which will change the known crypto world !

I've been on these pages for some time. Im a believer in the project and have mined and am holding a fair few coins. It just seems obvious this is a pump - everyone doesnt all of a sudden think this is the best coin ever! I understand we needed a correction to make value fair but this steep of a climb smells fishy to me.
This is a great coin no doubt, undervalued for a long time. Saying that, I've never seen a chart where a coin pumped 5x+ in value over a short period of hours to a couple days that didn't finish with a massive, fast correction. Some coins like Litecoin recover but never to that high, most coins fall to nothing - obviously Drk wont' fall into this shitcoin category.
Be careful falling for the hype, this is how whales end up with so many coins, they sell at the top and buy when there is blood, despair and panic.

It's not 5x, it's 3x.

Price movements of DRK have traditionally been in the 2.5 - 4x steps.

Early February: 0.00007 => 0.00018 (2.5x) STABLE
Early February pt 2: 0.00018 => 0.0005 (2.8x) STABLE
Mid February 0.0005: => 0.002 (4x) STABLE
Late February pump with hacked BTCs: 0.002 => 0.008 (unstable) => massive dump from btc hackers => 0.0012-16 (stayed there for 2 months)
Mid April: 0.0012 -> 0.0016
Late April: 0.0016 -> 0.005 (3x)

Compare this with some shitcoin pumps of 10-15-20-50-100x

That's because Darkcoin is the only coin besides Bitcoin that actually has something to offer. Litecoin's scrypt algo is going to be overrun by ASCIS's soon, Darkcoin's x11 algo won't have an ASCIS touch it for many years. Coins like Darkcoin aren't ones you see everyday.

First of all, I'm an investor in Darkcoin. With that being said, I've heard the same thing said about Quark and Blackcoin. I've been lucky enough to be apart of both of those pumps. Each coin says they offer something that no other coin offers. With Quark it is several layers of security. With Blackcoin it is PoS to buy Blackcoins to cause the price to go up. I've read the [ANN] of several other coins as well. They all say that same thing.

I'm in it for the money, not to be a bagholder of a coin like I was with Quark. I sell on the upswings in price. When Darkcoin gets dumped from this pump (and it will), I will have sold my coins at a much higher price than I bought them for just like I did with Blackcoin.

I wish you luck with your Darkcoin. I hope it never gets dumped. But if it does I will be ready to sell. While Darkcoin may be a great coin, the features of the coin are not what is causing the price to rise so dramatically. The reason for that is a pump in price.

Regarding dumping...The first wave yesterday brought much dumping on it but then it continued further with not much dumping resistance:

http://s10.postimg.org/g3cprmuvt/ooo1.jpg

...which is kind'of'interesting.

Anyone could explain the benefits of set an own masternode? I have more than 1k darks so i can create it but why should i make it?

For the time being you get nothing. That will change in the upcoming versions when darksend nodes will receive 10% of new blocks mined.

BC shot up 200x and Dark is innovative, don't compare a cow to a chicken.

And to put things into perspective:

LTC was pumped from 4$ to 50$.
DOGE was pumped from 26 satoshi to ~300 (>10x)
BC (I lost count of how many times upwards)
DRK is just 3x of it's 0.0016 price, from 70 cents to 2$.

BTC / LTC / DOGE and BTC have seen faaaaaar biggers pumps than DRK.

Big dump. We were only $1,735 off a $10 mil market cap.

We've crossed that point when price was 0.0054

0.0054 x 4.150.000 DRKs x 460 USD bitcoin price = 10.3mn

3511  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: April 26, 2014, 01:11:50 PM
What is the reason this coin going up now?

Is that just whales pump or somwthing else?

Early bagholders were buying DRK at prices which were ridiculously low (0.0000x range). After a hacking incident in February that disrupted the steady price rise (it was 0.0019-0.0023 back then), some bagholders started dumping too, locking profits of 50-100x.

The price was effectively suppressed by continuous dumping for nearly two months at 0.0012-0.0019 levels until the whale buyers came along and destroyed the selling resistance - effectively allowing the coin to soar.

In these two months the specifications for DarkSend nodes were issued, where a requirement for 1000 DRK per darksend node was set. This will allow DarkSend nodes to gain 10% of the coins from every block found, working as a PoW/PoS system that offers the anonymity service.

Last week or so, DarkSend entered Release Candidate status and the price started to move aggressively as people acquired coins for setting darksend nodes. Next RCs or in the final version, block payments to masternodes will be implemented.

Small corrections from time to time but very shallow, bulls are on the run. Risky to trade now, need balls of steel.

Balls of steel indeed. I sold a few at 0.0049, hoping to rebuy at 0.0047 and then came the pump to 0.0054. Had to panic buy myself in at 0.005+.

it sounds like you wont get much payout with a masternode if there's lots of them, they are talking 3 years to make 1000 DRK

There are PoS coins that pay less for holding the coins compared to owning a DRK masternode (and actually providing a service).

But all the Masternodes ip adresses are public aren't they?

I don't see why couldn't be operated through IP obfuscation if one wanted to do so.

Quote
Don't you think the NSA has the power to hack/seize enough masternodes if they really wanted to?

That would be too obvious.

Quote
So a high masternode price doesn't necessarily reduce the risk of the NSA aquiring enough of them.

Well, if someone wants to buy, say, 2-3mn DRKs they'll have to send the price to the moon to do it as the selling supply dries up from willing bagholders and acquisition costs skyrocket from the lack of market liquidity. However a new coin is practically doomed in terms of anonymity if someone controls its darksend nodes for pennies.
3516  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: April 26, 2014, 11:03:10 AM
HOLY SHIT.

someone just splurged 23 btc on mintpal and wiped that 17btc sell wall at 450k satoshi

...aaaaand another exciting day in DRKland has begun Cool

Now seriously some of these BTCs can't be legit. Earlier the price was 0.0039 both Mint and Cryptsy... a guy comes along at Mintpal and throws like 20-30 BTC buy order at 0.0045. Why would anyone do that if they had actually acquired their BTC in legitimate ways? It's an insta-loss of 10%... He would still get his DRKs if he put the buy at 0.0041. I sold everything I had at Mintpal on him and rebought at 0.004 a few seconds later.

They could also just not care about a short term loss. There is no doubt this price will fly a lot higher after RC2 so in the long run their buy was completely reasonable.

Not disagreement with the fundamentals but why go over 10% of the current orderbook? Doesn't make any sense / it's not rational buying behavior.

Quite simply, because this is not just another coin. Masternodes require 1000DRK "deposit" to be stationary, so pretty soon, no-one will be able to have one. People who know Darkcoin are selling their kidneys for BTC to rush in.

Its a perfect whale trap.

Its is beautiful !! (... because I got over 1k just in time to never dream of)

Speaking of masternodes, I was thinking the other day that implementing DarkSend into new coins will be highly problematic in terms of safety, compared to widely distributed coins implementing it. The reason is coin distribution and the very low cost of acquiring the necessary nodes to map out the network.

Say a clone coin comes out tomorrow with DarkSend and someone acquires like 50-60-70% of its marketcap with a few BTCs to run nodes. At that instant they've mapped out most of the network by controlling the vast majority of the nodes. This can't happen with a widely distributed coin that is expensive to retrieve. So, in essence, Darkcoin and other established coins with a good marketcap, have a huge advantage in terms of DarkSend functionality that can't be replicated with any degree of safety by clonecoins - unless they force DarkSends to go through a ridiculous amounts of cycles betweens nodes (like 100 times - hoping to cross a node that isn't controlled by an evil party). So why would anyone use DarkSend on a new clonecoin that might have been acquired aggressively to map it out at a very low cost?

So the cheaper a coin is, the higher the risk. So, in a way, marketcap will indirectly determine the level of safety in transacting anonymously. IPO and premine coins will be dead on arrival for DarkSends. Having said that the NSA has a huge budget and can of course purchase a lot of DRKs but in order to gain something like 30-40-50% of the coin distribution they should first send the price to the moon (the 100$ range that we mentioned earlier Tongue).

Any chance this will go to 100$/DRK?
Not anytime soon. If bitcoin goes $1000+ then it just might.

Bitcoin price is key for such a scenario, indeed. A BTC at, say, 5k USD will require only a 5fold increase in our current BTC ratio (1 DRK = 0.02 BTC x 5k USD = 100$).

I think payments are further down the line although he already posted a sshot from the testnet on the split payment of the mining reward (90% + 10% to the darksend node, with the help of a "voting system" for anti-rigging purposes where one makes bogus darksends to his node in order to get the mining payment).
