3521  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Inputs.io HACKED, 4 100 BTC STOLEN - REFUND DISCUSSION THREAD on: November 11, 2013, 04:54:11 PM
I think we are all fucked up, he just ran that ad campaign to get more people to store theyr funds on inputs.io, and then strike when everything is right.

I've only lost 0.0023, I am smart enough to keep my funds at a regular QT wallet, may be long to get the chain on your HDD but worth the time.

A little story by elasticband.

Once upon a time there was a learned young Elasticband, he read about this thing called bitcoin, WOW he thought! No longer did he have to store his wealth in the banks he did not trust and knew nothing about, hell who even runs the bank he banked at, why should he trust this person, was his wealth at risk of being effected by bailouts? Well the young Elasticband discovered bitcoin where he could take control of his own wealth, the young Elasticband never looked back.

Two years later the Elasticband learns bitcoin users stored their coins in a bitcoin bank where they knew very little about the owner of the bank and the bank was hacked, the owner uses none hacked funds to help compensate hacked users, everyone has some of their wealth stolen. this reminds the Elasticband of why he got in to Bitcoin and what owning and using a bitcoin wallet really mean.

THE END

sad story i know folks, i hope you can all learn something from this.

Such a sad story. Makes me cry.  Cry

My serious recommendation would be to make a datacenter out of it.  Get lots of dark fiber directly from the nearest largest POP.  Needless to say lots of juice to power the place.  Polish it and make it appear military grade.  Finally, the fun part, sell to your government! Tax money is always guaranteed. And you'll ink heavy contracts.  Sell your service to the highest branches of government.  Especially the defense and intelligence department.  They'll like your setup.  Perhaps you can specialize in one specific field if you don't have the capacity to house an entire government's operation.
Make a secret database/darknet base and keep it for yourself.
Don't sell to no government.

Orrrrr install tor servers and run the next silk road! Tongue

Why do many people like that site?

It is a nice and easy way to chat with other people interested in bitcoin (in real time unlike the forums even though I love the forums as well).
3525  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Alternative to Bitmit? on: November 11, 2013, 05:05:03 AM
You could post on bitcoin-otc. It's a little bit of a process to get started, but worth it, especially if you do a lot of trades and build up your OTC trust.

Thanks. In all honesty, I can't imagine posting so much that I'd become a full time member... what about using a trusted member here for escrow services?

That would work, but like I said, being a trusted member puts the other people at ease!

So to become a trusted member, I'll need to sell something and get good feedback. And pretty much the only way someone would have confidence in the trade is if I have trust... trust that I can't get without first making a sale. This is more difficult that I thought it be.

Very simple. At first people wont trust you with sale, so they will go through a lot of precaution, and as you become more trusted, people will be more comfortable and will take less precautions.

I can definitely understand that. I guess it's just getting the first sale or two. So I have several items I'd like to sell... should I post them all at once, or as separate forum items? Some of the things I'd like to sell are:

USB block erupters
USB hubs
Raspberry Pi
Motorola Droid X
iPod Nano
External hard drive
iPad mini
Truck rims
2 keyboard portfolios for iPad

Sell them 1 at a time. From least to greatest in price. Post in the Marketplace->Goods section.

You can also incude a "/2" button like you did for "x2" and "Max"
Just my .02BTC   Smiley

That's a feature already implemented into PrimeDice v3! Thanks for the suggestion nonetheless!

What?!? There is going to be a v3? Will the design remain the same or change?

Very similar design.

Just extra features, as all PrimeDice's features from v2 have already been copied by numerous other sites (Faucet, auto betting etc.). Time to set the bar yet again, no different to how we did in V1 & V2 Smiley.

Haha. Didnt you always "set the bar". What I mean by that is weren't you the first off-chain dice site?

CR was first by a week. Our development goes back to well before their release however.

O_o. Was your idea leaked or did two brilliant minds think of it at around the same time? Wink

Nop, no leaking. Just coincidence that we had both been working on such a similar project. Was quite a surprise to see CR released just as we were entering the final stages of the project Tongue

Well anyways, keep up the good work! Your website beats CoinRoll by a mile especially for this reason:

and many others! Smiley

You can get up to .667 bitcoins per hour if you're lucky at this site.  http://freebitco.in/?r=9186

Its not cool, just posting ref links like that.

Sure it is, OP is asking for ref sites and I provided one that works for me.

Your not breaking any rules or anything, but to me it makes you look poor.

you can also sell whatever it is on these forums.

Don't you need a level of trust before you can post on this forum?

Yes. If you have no trust, or negative trust, it probably wont work out.

Well, I suppose in my case, no trust and negative trust is one in the same. What can I do to earn trust?

The best thing you should do is to wait until your are a full member. Then start selling things, and if all goes well then you will get trust. It's not a requirement or anything but if you have positive trust then that will ease the mind of the other person.

Good thing that you mentioned escrow, otherwise you would have lost your money! Smiley

How much was bitcoin when you first heard of it? I heard of it when it was 60, but I didnt have money to invest! I still dont have money to invest, but I have made 1 BTC from scratch!

I'm not sure how much it was going for when I first heard about it. When I finally started researching it, it was around $60. How did you make 1 BTC from scratch (if you don't mind me asking)?

Well I gamble a LOT and have made a reasonable amount. Proof here (http://screencloud.net/v/4I85), and I design sites for others. My site (http://nahtnam.com). Finally I do this (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=291387.0), and have finished one month, resulting in a 0.3 profit!
