3581  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: I was SCAMMED , Please HELP! on: October 30, 2022, 03:05:25 PM
theymos should allow mods/admins to ban scammers.

That would not solve the problem, because the scammer would simply create a new profile that would also have no red feedbacks or active flags. If we want to ensure that Newbie profiles have the possibility to do such things at all, they should be banned from accessing Goods until they reach at least Jr. Member rank. It wouldn't be a newbie prison or anything, but it would prevent anyone from coming to this forum with only bad intentions.
3582  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: October 30, 2022, 02:39:31 PM
Croatia was surely not good in last world cup...

If playing in the final is not good enough, then I don't know what would be considered a good result according to you? I think that many people underestimated Croatia then, and they also underestimate it today, regardless of the fact that they made it to the Final Four of the League of Nations, which is a kind of European Championship.

in first round they are going to face Belgium and if they are able to handle this in better way then surely we can expect better results from them...

You are writing complete nonsense because you didn't check the schedule, Croatia is playing Belgium only the third game in the group. For both teams, this game will not have too much importance if they achieve victories over Morocco and Canada.
3583  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 8 Years ago today, $500,000 worth of bitcoin was distributed to MIT students. on: October 30, 2022, 02:21:45 PM
What startled me is that no one has already mentioned the extremely poor "conversion rates" of this experiment. From what I understood, according to the article, another experiment was conducted two years later in order to see how many students who took part in the bitcoin give away were still using bitcoin. Unfortunately, only 14% claimed to actively use Bitcoin. Isn't that a tiny percentage for students studying in such an advanced technological institute?

You obviously didn't read all the posts (and there aren't many of them), so you would have seen that I mentioned exactly that part that talks about 14% active after 2 years. But what did you expect in the period 2014-2016 when Bitcoin was still quite uninteresting for the majority? Students do not necessarily have to be people who can be expected to have a high level of understanding of some new technologies such as Bitcoin...
3584  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Pres.Nayib Bukele: Stop Drinking the Elite’s Kool-Aid on: October 30, 2022, 02:14:33 PM
~snip~

When anyone scratches below the surface, they will always find some dirt, and Bukele, like most people, is just a man prone to everything that he condemns in others. If, by any chance, instead of Bitcoin, that altcoin became a legal tender in the ES, most people would not even know that country exists or where it is at all.

Bukele changed his strategy at the last moment, or better said, he accepted a more generous offer. All that "pressure" that is being talked about actually affects him in the sense that he is constantly in the media which is not bad for him personally, nor for the country in terms of free promotion.

When we talk about losses (current & unrealized) then it is quite evident that they exist if we take into account the average price at which the president has bought BTC so far. However, from a broader perspective, ES did not lose much, nor did it gain much with Bitcoin, especially if we know that people outside the country were happier about everything than local residents.
3585  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin mining ban in Europe on: October 30, 2022, 12:00:39 PM
This would be terrible for the crypto community and I hope it's not going to happen. The number of crypto investors is much higher than the 10% share Europeans have on mining.

Maybe I'm wrong, but the last time I looked, only Germany had a little more than 3% of the total hashrate, all other countries were far below 1%, so it didn't seem to me that such a ban would seriously affect the overall picture. Besides, who has any motivation to mine Bitcoin in the EU where electricity has always been expensive, and now that price is even higher?

I know that there are some projects in Italy (if I'm not mistaken) that use hydro energy from several small sources, and there are probably some more specific cases - but this whole POW ban thing will end up costing more than the effect it will have. When we know that the EU, under the pressure of expensive energy sources, began to turn away from its green initiative and put all the polluting industries into operation, we can rightly ask where all these bureaucrats find meaning in what they do...
3586  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 8 Years ago today, $500,000 worth of bitcoin was distributed to MIT students. on: October 30, 2022, 11:43:35 AM
This a big difference. Almost 1400+.

One number is obviously wrong, although it is not too important how many students received $100 worth of BTC, but how many of them then realized what they actually received. The data from the article, which by the way is from 2021, says that after two years a survey was conducted in which it is stated that 14% of those who received free BTC were still actively using it. We can't say that any of those students are more or less smart because they spent Bitcoin or kept it, because as one of the students who is from the whole story says :

Quote
A robotics engineer at Pendar Technologies, Selam Gano, said she sold her BTC for $300 worth of food when it increased 3x in value. “It was free money, I don’t have any regrets,” Gano said during her interview. “I got an MIT degree, which is the most important thing to me,” Gano added.

The most important thing is that Bitcoin has helped some in their studies, and it has obviously interested some to be active in Bitcoin today. In my opinion, the experiment was successful.
3587  Other / Meta / Re: I'm curious About this on: October 30, 2022, 11:20:59 AM
The merits system was introduced during 2018, and everyone kept the rank they had then, and all those who were inactive in the period after that remained at their current ranks if they lack activity points, regardless of the number of merits they received.

The forum does not delete members' accounts and they do not represent any problem - I see no reason why you consider it a problem at all? Merits are not something that is limited and should be taken away from inactive members, because there are members of the forum who are merit sources and they receive certain amounts of merit from the forum which they then distribute.

Also, for each merit that someone sends to someone, 0.5 sMerits are created, which means that when you get 2 merits, you can send one to someone. If you want a little more information about merits, I suggest you visit -> Bitcointalk Merit Dashboard
3588  Other / Meta / Re: Why this thread of mine has been deleted? on: October 30, 2022, 11:07:41 AM
Such topics have no place in Bitcoin discussion or Economics -> Speculations, but should be exclusively in Altcoins boards, as has already been concluded countless times. I would have thought that the old-time Legendary member would distinguish Bitcoin from altcoins and not ask such pointless questions.
3589  Economy / Economics / Re: Why exactly did Elon want to buy Twitter? on: October 29, 2022, 02:33:09 PM
It seems that in addition to the dismissal of old employees, they also started returning some disputed user accounts, so we have the first winner who got his account back (Kanye West) - so the man is not guilty of anything, only his statements were a little anti-Semitic. Does this mean that Mr. Mars will unblock some Russian accounts? Maybe Putler and the team will get the freedom of speech that has been denied to them Roll Eyes
3590  Economy / Economics / Re: Fiat in trouble on: October 29, 2022, 02:07:37 PM
FIAT is always in trouble, now the only additional problem is inflation, which surprised many with its numbers, and now everything looks much worse than 2-3 years ago. The problem that the OP and many others have is that they think that countries should be even more tolerant towards Bitcoin, especially if they are referring to the EU, which so far has not caused problems for anyone who wanted to use Bitcoin in one way or another.

Bitcoin is only an alternative currency that cannot be a solution to the problem, even if the entire EU declares it legal tender - the problem still remains. The system is rotten, no doubt about it, but to change it, it would have to completely crash and reset. But if it were to happen, many would wish it had never happened considering the consequences it would cause.

...like the US were there are over 46m users and roughly 22% of the adult population own a share of Bitcoin, there can still be a number of digital assets and the Fiat currency but the govt would recognize both of them.

Do you think these data are correct? Who published them - the IRS, the state statistics office or perhaps some CEX? To me, that seems overblown, just like the numbers coming from Nigeria or India. When you add up all those millions around the world, it turns out that 20% or more of the world's population owns Bitcoin or cryptocurrencies, and that brings us to 1.6 billion people, which cannot possibly be correct.
3591  Economy / Economics / Re: What do you think of gold price in long term? on: October 29, 2022, 01:40:43 PM
~snip~
I'm wondering what does everyone think about gold price in the long term, specially in coming year or two as the conflicts get worse and more economies crash which would push regular people to invest in gold and more governments to start increasing their gold reserves on larger scale.

I think that gold will remain relevant for decades to come and that nothing will change in that regard, and the only question is when its price will fall, considering that scientists are quite sure that there is gold in large quantities outside our planet. Only on one asteroid, which they named 16 Psyche, there is gold worth about $700 quintillion, which is a number that few will be able to understand.

Considering that the central banks have no alternative to the gold standard, we should not be surprised that they continue to buy it in large quantities, because that is the only thing over which they can have complete control. In addition, gold is something that will retain its value even if a major disaster occurs, when fiat and any cryptocurrency would lose almost all meaning.

Having some gold is a smart thing, assuming of course that you don't have something that just looks like gold Wink
3592  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Pres.Nayib Bukele: Stop Drinking the Elite’s Kool-Aid on: October 29, 2022, 01:02:49 PM
And this year, the crime and homicide rate has decreased by 95%."

Is this the same country that half a year ago was in such a dramatic situation that the president could not leave the country because of the gang conflict and, as he said, the extremely difficult and complex security situation in the country? The figures he showed seem as if they came from a world where problems are solved by magic, and not by real measures, the results of which have to be waited for years.

I don't think that someone is a positive person just because he adapted Bitcoin, because there are many things about the president that obviously no one is interested in or simply don't want to know. He is not too different from others... El Salvador Bitcoin

And who will say that he is wrong when his party rules the country completely?
3593  Economy / Economics / Re: friend I want to invest short term in bitcoin and crypto. to meet their living a on: October 29, 2022, 10:55:15 AM
Your friend is only one of those who probably heard or read somewhere that Bitcoin is some kind of magical internet money from which some people have become rich, which is not something to be surprised about considering the way Bitcoin is trying to be presented to the masses. The whole thing is of course completely different, but various scammers use people like your friend and you and promise them 100% or 500% monthly if they invest their money with them. The old rule says "if it's too good to be true, it's a lie."

Briefly and clearly tell your friend that the answer is NO, and not to accept any offers from social networks or so-called friends who might convince him otherwise. He can get a free lunch from you or another true friend, and everything else is just an expensive scam.
3594  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: 15% discount on Trezor hardware wallets on: October 29, 2022, 10:21:01 AM
So, if you are in the EU, the Trezor One will now cost you around €70, while Trezor T is approximately €220.

And I still remember that a few years ago, some complained that $100 was a price they were not ready to pay to buy such a device. I haven't followed how much the price of the T model has changed since it appeared on the market, but it costs about $130 more than the Ledger X that I bought in 2019. Security is never expensive, but this price seems a bit excessive to me, even from an EU perspective, and here we are talking about the price with a discount...

I wonder how many people from various poor countries of the world have no chance to buy something like this because they have to work for several months to earn money for such an HW. On the other hand, some will say that they don't need HW, given that they can't even afford big investments.
3595  Economy / Speculation / Re: Next big bull rally expected to begin in 2023 Q2 says Mark Yusko on: October 29, 2022, 10:05:41 AM
He found it on the article that he read and maybe that article found that guy in twitter because I can see that he is popular there.

Of course, that was a rhetorical question, more in the sense of "why are you wasting your time on such articles", given that we know that none of these experts know much more than the average member of this forum who understands at least some basics of the market.

For now, we can't say that he is wrong because his prediction can also came true. The only thing that we can do for now is to wait for that dates. Many predictors said that the bears would continue next year or so but this guy mark came out to counter it and make people believe that there is still a hope.

If nothing happens, that man will bear no responsibility, like hundreds and thousands of others like him who try to catch their 5 minutes of fame almost on a daily basis. He may even be partially right that the new bull run will start in Q2, because the pre-halving effects could happen, which could result in slightly larger price movements than in recent months.

However, that big bull run that could pump the price up to $100k, shouldn't happen before Q2 2024 or later.
3596  Other / Meta / Re: Appeal the ban "CoinIdol News" account on: October 29, 2022, 09:48:40 AM
If the mods/admins don't give a shit, then I'm done wasting my time with it. You should be too. Just hit ignore and move on.

Your position and the position of some other respected members of the forum is your personal matter, but they should not influence others to follow your example. The ignore button exists for a reason, but not for the reason that we all turn our heads to the other side and let everyone do what they want.

You gave up on the Press board, but that does not mean that good work was not done there and that some other members cleaned that board of those who were abusing it. It literally took me 10-15 seconds to report those two threads, and if new ones appear in two days or two months, I will gladly sacrifice another 10-15 seconds to do the same.
3597  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Chip Mixer Problems on: October 28, 2022, 03:27:41 PM
The only other thing I noticed was the site was VERY slow.

TOR can sometimes be quite slow, and sometimes access to individual sites is quite difficult, CM is no exception to that. The best thing you can do in that case is restart TOR and get a new Identity/New Tor Circuit.

I can also confirm it was a .onion address (I kept looking at that because I knew I got scammed with the .xyz address). Is there another fake mixer ".onion" address?

It would be much more important if you checked what was before .onion, because scammers have access to these addresses like everyone else and can create a similar address as the original CM TOR link.

Now the site is fast and displaying the "bc1.." address. Do I dare try it again?

Your money, your risk - you really should be 100% sure you're on the right site. Also, take into account that you need to pay a slightly higher fee than otherwise if you want the BTC transaction to be confirmed within a reasonable time (there are currently about 10 000 unconfirmed transactions in the mempool). Of course, you can always save the session token and come back later for your mixed coins.

Why exactly did Elon want to buy Twitter?

He bought Twitter so that he could easily shill shitcoins, isn't that more than obvious Roll Eyes

I don't think that such an unstable man who often changes his mind is a good choice to be the owner of any such influential social network, but I also think that he, like any other spoiled child, will throw away that toy sooner or later. All this nonsense about media freedom is just nonsense, especially if he restores the profiles of those who incited violence and are responsible for the deaths of people who are direct victims of that violence.
3599  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Chip Mixer Problems on: October 28, 2022, 02:24:24 PM
I contacted support and they are saying its not their wallet and that there is nothing they can do (even if I got the wallet address from their site).
Can anyone tell me what happened? I lost two deposits and it makes me sick to be throwing money away. I don't want to try a third time.

Of course, the official support can't help you because you were on a fake mixer the whole time, which you yourself admit when you claim that you sent BTC both times to an address that starts with 3. It is possible that you are still on a fake mixer, regardless of the fact that it now shows you an address that starts with bc1.

If it's not clipboard malware, maybe OP has something more dangerous on his computer that redirects him to phishing sites without even noticing. RAT (remote access Trojan) is a nasty thing when it gets into someone's computer.
3600  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: spend twice more Bitcoins while waiting the block to be verified? on: October 28, 2022, 02:04:59 PM
@Charles-Tim, via still works as far as I know, but if you don't know exactly how to make it work it becomes a real waste of time. Apart from that, it seems to me that I rarely see them on the list of those who find the block (only twice in the last 4 hours), but in the end it's all a matter of luck - RBF and mempool are always the best choice for me.
