Different format including blinds minutes and starting chipstack might be one of the factor that determine wether player would be good on that game or not. I am running decent on game with higher blind minutes or one of those bigstack / monster stack game but Im sucks on anything with lower than 100 BB

This monster stack game might take up to 10 hours just to reach the final table but yeah this is what I would choose to play on every Sunday . People are less aggresive in this kind of game and this is totally what poker looks like instead of shoving all those stack every rounds ( my personal preference )

yeah, the thing about turbos and super turbos is they are very high variance. so much shoving! to make good money on them, you have to multi-table and just play lots and lots of them. winning your 60-40 and 70-30 all-ins over the long run is how to beat them.

i also much prefer slow blind levels and structures. 15 minute blinds + slow structures where antes don't kick in early is my ideal. it gives you lots of room to splash around and build pots in the earlier rounds without forcing you into short stack mode right away.

OK here goes the big one.

$109  Bounty Builder Series 159: $115K Gtd.

Starts at 15:30 UK/WET

A bit earlier for a change.

Setting up to stream it a bit.

i caught the end---i liked the A7hh shove, fine way to go out. almost tripled up on them hearts. next time. Tongue

But, again, if this were organized like real sports betting, with odds and all that stuff, and some people were really betting on some of us, it would be tons of fun, imo.

anyone offering odds for/against anyone? i'd be interested in making a couple mBTC worth of bets on a last longer or something.

I have just sent out the password via PM to everyone who qualified - I mean the really best players and not those luckboxes qualifying for the Grand Final...

Edit: TyKi as our most intelligent player deserves a spot... he will suck anyways. Let me know if you like to play @tyKiwanuka

i got the password---not sure if that was intentional. i only played 1 game this time! and i was hoping to donate the extra fees to the tourney @Globb0 is (hopefully) organizing.

I agree, runners up final should be a casual game between friends with lots of inappropriate low hits flying all over the chat. Let serious players have their grand final and play tight game  Grin

i've always thought of the 10k as just a fun freeroll for the community, not some huge value thing that the finalists need to be deprived of. no biggie though.
363  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bitcointalk Poker Nights Discussion Thread (private games for btctalk members) on: October 20, 2020, 07:46:23 PM
I would suggest ACR, but I can't imagine they would sponsor us in any way shape or form. Maybe I'll fire off a support ticket. Pitch it as an idea to advertise on the forum and bring in more BTC poker players. Worth a shot. I believe they are accessible to most of the world, and I've never had any issues with my crypto deposits.

i've tried it before, pitching that exact angle. they ignored me on multiple attempts, but maybe their attitude has changed since january or february when i last contacted them.

i noticed they added a way to make your own private tournaments recently: https://www.americascardroom.eu/online-poker-promotions/private-online-poker-tournament/

unfortunately, buy-ins are locked at $1.65. weird! Roll Eyes

if we wanted to run home games on stars, we could technically do it for play money and pony up p2p with bitcoin. that way, USA players (and anyone else from prohibited jurisdictions) could play too. someone would have to act as escrow. (not that this has anything to do with sponsorship, but you can create games on the fly instead of waiting on support)
364  Economy / Gambling / Re: #4 Bitcointalk Poker Series @ SwC Poker (0.06 BTC, BIG BTC Ticket by SwC) on: October 20, 2020, 07:33:09 PM
tbh, i'd rather donate the 0.0028 BTC i overpaid in fees to a one off or monthly forum game like Globb0 wants to organize:

Im also thinking of running a bigger 1 off free roll or low stakes forum game, perhaps monthly?

I also had a mind about a few prizes but that is the type of tbc stuff.

Might depend if people are prepared to chip in for or donate prizes.

given the value SwC is adding to the series championship, i think it'll go further there. hopefully none of the finalists mind! Smiley

i'd be totally down for that. i'm hoping my real life schedule calms down in time for the next series, but the weekly schedule is pretty demanding at the moment. i'm much more confident i could set aside the time for a one off or monthly game.

And of course potential partners or sponsorship for our games (aside obv of SWC who already do us well I would like us to maintain this relationship - pokerstars that I wanted to consider using isn't accessible from some players so not doing it I suppose *shame)

if you can get pokerstars to run a private game and add value, you should do it anyway. i couldn't play but.....who cares? it obviously wouldn't make sense to run a whole series there like we've been doing at SwC though. the fact that SwC allows everyone and doesn't require KYC is ideal.
366  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Poker Worthwhile freerolls and low stakes high prize and fun games on: October 20, 2020, 04:09:24 PM
unfortunately the fields on SwC are just too small---more like multi-table sit-and-gos than real sunday majors.
Its very pedestrian after playing lots of games with thousands of entries.

Also it seems just too easy? I sound like a big head but they are all so predictable.

i certainly hope an MTT with thousands of runners is a bit tougher to win than one with a few dozen, especially when we're talking about stuff like the sunday million on stars.

it's all about personal style too though. some people can really own that 18-45 man kinda format and it makes them lots of money---not my thing, personally. per entrant, i consistently run deeper in large fields.
367  Economy / Exchanges / Re: OKEX suspended withdrawals, why these exchanges do not offer insurance on: October 20, 2020, 03:54:48 PM
The reason why exchanges don't offer insurance its because it would be very difficult if not impossible to find any insurance company that is willing to take that risk. As far as I know some exchanges like Coinbase or Gemini, they have insurance however its on fiat funds and not on crypto. So if they got hacked and the hacker took $1 million in US funds from their bank accounts they would be covered, if they stole $1 million worth of crypto then they wouldn't be covered.

Crypto is still pretty new thing and most don't understand it. So no insurance company wants to take on that risk.

they have government (FDIC) insurance on dollar bank accounts. i don't think non-USA customers technically have insurance on cash.

coinbase does have an insurance policy on its hot wallets, which represents < 2% of total customer funds: https://help.coinbase.com/en/coinbase/other-topics/legal-policies/how-is-coinbase-insured

Quote
Coinbase prioritizes the security of our customer's funds, all digital currency that Coinbase holds online is insured. If Coinbase were to suffer a breach of its online storage, the insurance policy would pay out to cover any customer funds lost as a result. Coinbase holds less than 2% of customer funds online. The rest is held in offline storage.

so does gemini: https://gemini.com/blog/digital-assets-insurance

Do you play on ACR instead?
i do, but haven't in several months. i got screwed over by a couple server failures there and withdrew my bankroll to SwC out of frustration a while back. but i do miss ACR's guaranteed tourneys. SwC is a joke by comparison. i'm much better in large fields too.
Have you guys tried out GGPoker? There software is pretty cool.

i wish i could because there is great action there. i'm in the states---we're not allowed. Sad

ACR is as good as it gets for us. i'll probably get a roll going there again when my real life job dies down. unfortunately the fields on SwC are just too small---more like multi-table sit-and-gos than real sunday majors.
369  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: US 2020 Elections data, polls and bets on: October 19, 2020, 02:19:51 AM
regardless of what the polls or betting odds say, i think a biden victory is becoming increasingly likely.

people are focusing too much on the inaccuracy of polls, the silent trump vote, and other themes from 2016. what they should be focusing on is the extremely high level of voter engagement heading into the 2020 election (based on voter registrations, early voter turnout, etc) which suggests a very high overall turnout is coming. many are expecting voter turnout to hit new records this year. https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2020/10/2020-election-turnout/616640/

that puts things heavily in favor of biden and the democrats. i'm even starting to wonder if the dems will take a majority in the senate too.

However, it can also be argued that 2016 also had extremely high level of optimism for a Hillary victory. It was speculated to be close to a certainty by the pollsters.

i'm not talking about optimism for or expectation of a biden victory. the polls and betting odds are much closer this time around too.

what i'm talking about is voter engagement. there are reasons to believe that high voter turnout benefits democrats. consider these studies: https://dash.harvard.edu/bitstream/handle/1/11156810/Fowler_gsas.harvard_0084L_10773.pdf?sequence=3&isAllowed=y

Quote
Study #1 examines the adoption of compulsory voting laws in Australia in order to assess the effects of near-universal turnout. When new, working class voters were brought the polls Australia saw significant changes in election results and public policy.

Study #2 explores the partisan consequences of marginal changes in voter turnout in the United States by comparing the partisan preferences of regular and marginal voters.  Across three independent tests and settings, marginal voters are significantly more supportive of the Democratic Party compared to regular voters.

nonvoters are more likely to be poor, young, nonwhite, women, less educated, etc---groups that are more likely to vote democrat, if they vote.

the other thing to consider is what actually happened in the 2018 elections---the only elections so far in the age of trump. we saw the biggest turnout of any mid-term election since 1914, and democrats took control of the house.

don't get me wrong. i don't think a biden victory is guaranteed, but i'm a lot more bullish on biden than i was a couple months ago.

nice job taking down the last qualifier, @Trofo. great performance in this series by @jayce too, racking up those cashes. Smiley

i'm bummed that i missed yet another week with you guys. i was all geared up to play this weekend (was gonna play some sunday guarantees too and throw on @Globb0's stream in the background) but then another last minute work call came in. i've just now touched down ~1000 miles from home. Roll Eyes

i hope SwC hooks us up with another series because i totally shit the bed on this one.

Didn't Mr Xu keep everyone's private keys in his girlfriend's grandmother's cupboard?

his wife and mother had copies of the private keys. Tongue

this was the policy when CZ was working there.

Quote
Star alone holds the private key to the OKCoin code wallet,” he wrote. “The backup of the private keys were held by Star’s wife and mother, both of whom are non-technical.”

who knows what's happening at okex several years later though.

anyway, fingers crossed for okex customers. this isn't the first time star has been in police custody. it's not over yet. Wink

And if I remember rightly he was 'investing' customer funds in crappy investment schemes, or maybe that was Huobi.

it was both of them lol. looking back, it makes sense considering neither of them were charging trading fees. their profit had to come from somewhere.....

I did play it, the highest position I got to was around 400th, but I gradually lost out after 3.5 hours it was a lot of multi tasking with the stream and bitcointalk poker game.

when in doubt, just sit out the forum game and micro stuff when you've got a $100 buy-in on the line. Wink

I was also thinking about creating a home game on Pokerstars or even maybe SwC I need to look into it.

+1. i was wondering if we could get a private game at SwC. my schedule is super busy lately so i'm gravitating more towards cash games even though tourneys are my real thing.

i can't play at stars. Sad

Thanks Mauser, you rock, I usually will be live at the weekends.

I think I need to work out a rough schedule and try to set it regularly. Then people can roughly know if I'm about.

that's the way to do it---it can be tough to follow along otherwise. sunday major time is always a good choice, although i'm not sure how that lines up with your local schedule.

@figmentofmyass. Your possibility is only just a speculation and we have never seen any sign that our culture will shift away from consumerism. I reckon it is in our nature to need to have the latest stuff. I also reckon that it is this very nature that sped up our technological advancement.

that's an oversimplification of the issue. the degree of consumerism pervading society is not static and IMO is directly linked to savings rates. regardless, the real issue is that people used to save money. now they don't. whether that trend is reversible, i don't know, but it's certainly possible. https://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2016/04/why-dont-americans-save-money/478929/

Quote
But the decline in savings is recent, and the human brain hasn’t evolved since the Ford administration. The bottom 90 percent of households saved 10 percent of their income in the first Reagan administration. By 2006, their savings rate was nearly negative-10 percent.

Other writers suggest that the country’s low saving rate is purely a matter of American exceptionalism. But it is also a myth that the U.S. is alone in its turn against saving in the last three decades. The personal savings rate has fallen in Canada, Germany, and Japan, as well.

i keep planning to play every sunday but then my weekend goes haywire. fingers crossed, i'll be playing next sunday---not that i have a chance of getting into the final or anything. Wink

As promised a few screencaps. Nowhere near all of them, as I didn't start grabbing them from the get go. Some gems here though non the less.

lol, so many sets to run into. brutal! i know how that goes. SwC is really jacking up the action huh?! Tongue

Sunday is the big day. I have the $109 Sunday million a 6pm WET 13:00 Sunday, Eastern Time (ET) and the BTC Talk championship game starting an hour later.
Thanks for following and supporting. My biggest game yet!
Twitch.tv/globb0

did you play the sunday million? i checked your stream just now and it looked like all lower stakes stuff.

why no 4-color deck? that has cost me quite a few chips in my day---misreading suits while multi-tabling. something to consider. Wink
378  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: It's F'n happening ----- Polk VS. Negreanu HUNL Grudge Match on: October 13, 2020, 09:55:53 PM
Well that turned into a shitshow for a few days, and probably right up until the match gets underway. I am happiest about the fact that somehow a concession about holecards came about and will be visible for at least part of the match.

nice, that'll make it much more watchable.

Surprising though is I think Doug is legitimately fired up to play now. He talked before about feeling anxious when the time was coming to play, and that was part of his leaving the game. I don't see any of that in his current, come and get me approach. I even noticed him kind of accepting and calling for additional matches, some obvious putdowns and/or trolls but maybe he dips his toes in and gets a taste for these heads up matches.

they're both trying to play head games and put on facades etc. we'll see what happens. like i said, at the odds given i definitely like DN but i'm expecting doug to win. i love a good underdog though!

Any other information on where will this be streamed at? To be honest, Dneg is somewhat sloppy when it comes to online game. Doug on the other hand is a good player when it comes to online 1v1 heads up. I've checked his video on youtube few days ago and I have seen that he is doing great on that , making lots of cash on his game

If Dneg ended up winning this, it will be total upset for Doug

gimme 5 to 1 in favor of DN and you got yourself a bet. Tongue
379  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-10-08] Bitcoin Can't be Correlated to Traditional Assets on: October 13, 2020, 09:39:26 PM
After several thousand years gold is still largely speculation, or perhaps that has grown as its usage as any sort of money has waned with more useful things coming along.

look at it another way: how speculative is gold, compared to bitcoin? not just in terms of volatility, but in terms of acceptance and legitimacy? sure, traders push gold prices around, but i think most of the world views bitcoin with much more binary expectations---ie mass adoption vs niche currency/irrelevance. the gold market has already achieved mass adoption. it isn't speculative on that level.

But deflation/hoarding will be just as big a factor in stopping it progressing into a currency, perhaps the prime one in time.

there is always the possibility that our culture shifts away from consumerism and debt, and towards hard money and saving. for example, if most people are only willing to accept hard money like bitcoin or gold for payment, that acts as pressure against the hoarding tendency.
380  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Poker talk - Specifically Hold'em - Hands and or strategy on: October 13, 2020, 09:26:44 PM
So after a very disheartening Friday/Saturday grind I eeked out some sunshine on Sunday I took down the Little BTC which was a nice ego boost after all the busted bullets---- it was really starting to look like a scene out of Hotshots part deux

boom, nice! Smiley

Then with my Big BTC ticket in hand I rallied and after about 2 hours was in the top 5, held there until about 20-30 folks left then started to slide - My stack was at it's largest 53K, and folded out almost everything from 25, down to 9 where I finished; out of the money 7 cashed. I had one chance for a possible 3-bet but they had me covered and I was going to be playing OOP as the small blind. AJ suited facing LJ I believe.

Unlike most tournaments I don't remember a lot of spots that I could have played differently, the one mentioned above is about the only one that sticks out. I folded to a flop bet, with no diamonds on the board and it being 8,9,5 2 spades.

I grabbed a ton of screencaps of me losing flips or getting sucked out on so I may group them together and share in the next couple of days. I did manage to win with AA twice I think, because everyone folded pre  Angry, Ran my KK into AA a few times, so gross. That's the problem with taking shots though, the bad side of variance can kill your action quickly.

feel free to share---always happy to see some hands, particularly on those SwC sunday tourneys. i'm super busy these days but i wanna grind some of those when i finally get some free time again.

what hand did you go out on? standard short stack play and just couldn't hang on past the bubble?
