You should also give the aproximate value in USD at the time those bitcoins were stolen. Because now they're obviously worth a lot, but back in 2011/2010, they weren't worth nearly as much as they are now...

I think he did do this no? He listed the value of it back then.

Yup, there is a section "List of events by USD equivalent of mBTC at time of theft" though with a note "NB: This section is outdated.".
362  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Merchant Research on: May 01, 2014, 04:19:38 PM
Clearly all transactions are done via the web.

Not all, but most IMO.
For example, you can still find some cafes, restaurants and pubs accepting bitcoin on http://coinmap.org/

363  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Merchant Research on: May 01, 2014, 04:05:46 PM
What do mean by non online?!???

He meant non-online shopping.
Exactly as OP mentioned, most of the trades made are online shopping such as Tigerdirect and Overstock.
364  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It's Public Now: MasterCard Offically Lobbying on Bitcoin in U.S Congress on: May 01, 2014, 04:03:24 PM
Hmm... bad news.... MasterCard / Visa have billions of $$$ in their hands to do the lobbying. Unfortunately we don't even have 1% of that amount. Now the only realistic option is to align with the enemies of Master / Visa, such as Russia.

We should begin buying bitcoin with their cards just to pump wealth into btc.

There are few places you can buy bitcoin with credit cards, and I am sure MasterCard and Visa will be more than happy to have done more business lol.
365  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which tech company will be next to incorporate btc? on: May 01, 2014, 03:48:03 PM
It could be apple.

It is very unlikely IMO. Apple doesn't like bitcoin.

366  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's everyone's bitcoin story? on: May 01, 2014, 03:41:49 PM
Found out about it late last year in a magazine. A friend and myself have been mining it since then and haven't looked back!

What magazine? I found it online here!

You discovered bitcoin here on bitcointalk?
Interesting, what makes you come here in the first place?  Grin
367  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: First Bitcoin ATM in Amsterdam on: May 01, 2014, 03:38:56 PM
Does it go both ways too?!

You can find that clearly stated in OP...
Bitcoin ATM Chaumy
Zeedijk 43, Amsterdam

One way from BTC-O-MATIC

368  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Annual 10% bitcoin dividends if mining were Proof-of-Stake on: May 01, 2014, 03:33:40 PM
Can bitcoin really switch to PoS?

No.

Wouldn't it just create a hard fork and create a new altcoin?

Yes.

I see. Thanks for your help.
Looks like bitcoin is too-big-to-modify, unlike those new altcoins lol. Grin
369  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: JOKE EXPLAINED on: May 01, 2014, 03:29:53 PM
if you're chicken , it means you're scared (american slang).

Also, "General Tso's chicken" is one of the most popular
Chinese-American dishes.

I see. I know both things, but I don't get it at first. Cheesy

Off-topic, I know the first thing, because I have read "Don't chicken out" long long time ago in KFC (yup, KFC is everywhere around the globe lol).
370  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The relationship between private keys and BTC address/wallet on: May 01, 2014, 03:25:57 PM
For example, the paper wallet has a BTC address for spending, but no private keys. Why no private keys?

1. Are you sure you have no private key on the paper wallet?
It could be in QR code or a long string of characters (51 characters starting with a "5" or 52 characters starting with "L" or "K").

2. The btc address is for you to receive bitcoin, you need the private key to spend the bitcoin.

It has 2 address. One is the spending address, that is to be kept private, and that number does indeed start with a 5.

I am under the impression that the private keys are different from the spending address, and the spending address is derived from the private keys.

Or are we stuck calling the same thing by two different names?

Okay, problem solved now I guess.
The "spending address" on your paper wallet is what we call "private key".
Anyone knowing that will be able to spend your bitcoin, so please put it in a safe place and don't show it to any one.
371  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: In a bitcoin society! What is the role of banks? on: May 01, 2014, 03:16:46 PM
Exactly as you said, there is no need for banks IMO.
I can't store millions USD (in banknotes) in my house, but I can do that easily in bitcoin with my old offline computer.
I can't send millions USD in a parcel to another country without worrying the parcel will be lost somewhere, but I can do that easily with bitcoin.
372  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: List of Major Bitcoin Heists, Thefts, Hacks, Scams, and Losses on: May 01, 2014, 03:12:05 PM
Thanks OP for creating and maintaining this list.
People could have avoided the loss in many cases if they don't store their bitcoin on sites.
373  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: why China doesn't like Bitcoin on: May 01, 2014, 03:09:10 PM
it's all because General Tso's chicken.

get it?

 Grin

I actually dont get it... Huh

Me neither. Maybe because my first language is not English?
374  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If we start including bitcoin miners in houses as amenities. on: May 01, 2014, 03:08:05 PM
then no one will have to work

edit:  holy shit money is free!!

The difficulty will be so high that your "heater" can only generate very little bitcoin. Smiley

PS: the search feature here sucks. if I need to try a new search I must wait a certain period of time, way too long of a time.

You got a 360seconds limit for searching, sending PM and making post, before you reach 15 activity.
You can add "site:bitcoin.org" to your search query on google though.

I got a question here.
Can bitcoin really switch to PoS? Wouldn't it just create a hard fork and create a new altcoin?
378  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It's Public Now: MasterCard Offically Lobbying on Bitcoin in U.S Congress on: May 01, 2014, 02:51:07 PM
Not surprising, merely a matter of time
Game on...

+1.
If bitcoin gets more and more successful, the credit card companies will have less business and less profit. So, it is not surprised to read something like that. Smiley
