One reason could be because they don't like anything that gives their people more freedom.  Bitcoin could lead to bigger and different thoughts, China hates to lose control over its people.

if you're chicken , it means you're scared (american slang).

Also, "General Tso's chicken" is one of the most popular
Chinese-American dishes.

I see. I know both things, but I don't get it at first. Cheesy

Off-topic, I know the first thing, because I have read "Don't chicken out" long long time ago in KFC (yup, KFC is everywhere around the globe lol).

As others have stated already,  the most logical reason is wanted control and fear of Chinese citizens getting too much control or knowledge.

Look at all the other things China does.  Blocks facebook then allows their own Chinese version (which is heavily censored and monitored).  Blocks twitter then allows their own Chinese version (which is heavily censored and monitored).  Blocks various foreign TV shows  (then allows an edited version to air).  Limits the amount of foreign movies and blocks foreign movies that can be played in Movie Theaters (and allows an edited version to show instead).  The list goes on and on.  I'm not all that shocked that the people in power (government) would be nervous of a new form of currency that gives more control and freedom back into the heads of the average person and away from the tightly controlled government owned central banking system.

China has a somewhat bizarre financial system.  Remember that China is officially a communist country, but they are also an 'capitalism powerhouse'.  It doesn't make much sense and neither does their dual-currency financial system.  There has been a long history of strange monetary controls in China, for instance there are limits to how much Renminbi you can take out of the country.  It's somewhat safe to say they don't want individuals benefiting from capitalism, only officially state sponsored entities.  China was one of the first countries to use extra-national digital currencies in any significant way(a kind of transferable cell phone credit was used as cash tender at one point before the govt cracked down on it).

Hope this answers your question.

The color red in chinese culture is not dominated by "government communism" but rather the age old significance of red in their culture & beliefs. Here's an explanation
