And more to the point what coin were terrorist using before the advent of btc? Bars of gold?
Probably German-Marks. The German Mark was used far outside Europe, and many of these users have followed the switch to Euro's. (Or dollars, since most people will make exceptions for money)

The switch to Euro's would have been the perfect event to get rid of all existing black money, I don't remember that having happened. I even read somewhere that converting all black-money to euros (unreported savings, plain money-laundering but also large criminal assets) was crucial for making the switch a success.

If Obama had a switch to instantly prevent the use of dollars in illegal activities and unreported savings anywhere in the world, would he touch it? I think the result would not be pretty.
It's well worth trying to minimize questionable use of a currency, but in the end, currencies need to be exchanged more-or-less without restrictions, or it isn't a real currency any more.

EBA is a post 2008 crisis institution. You could read more here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Banking_Authority
If I read it correctly, the purpose of the EBA was to mandate regulations, to prevent that banks needed to compete with cheaper banks in countries with less regulations. They would have named it European Banking Cartel, but then even the name would have been almost the same as the ECB :-)
It's these guys job to discourage bitcoin, I don't know what took them this long.

There are several factors why people do not daytrade :

1) They feel safer to have their coins in the coldstorage and not on the exchange - nothing wrong with that
2) They understand that trading is a serious deal, that you cant just jump in right into it and make money - nothing wrong with that
3) They have other job and its more profitable/comfortable for them to just focus on their job and buy more coins when the price is right - nothing wrong with that
4) Profit from investing is taxed differently from profit from day trading in some countries. (0% and and >40% in my case)
(I also pay an additional 1.2%/year property tax over my bitcoins, but that's peanuts)
5) some people trade through websites that provide instant exchange between national back accounts and BTC, but have a relatively high fee of 3 to 5%, both ways, making day trading too expensive.

HODL'ing (and buying 1 BTC or less, if the price drops more than $30 below my last buy).

He made 1000's of posts, all exactly 1 hour apart, 24/7. If he isn't a bot, he never sleeps...
(have you clicked the "explanation" link?)

This. Is. Awesome.

Ukrainian protestor, 2014

good exposure but I wouldn't donate to those scumbags..
It's anyone’s guess what this man would do with the donations, but everyone here would agree that a donation from anywhere in the world to this Ukrainian man (in a country with a bit of a situation) would totally work, work quickly, at low transfer cost, and not end up in someone else pockets along the way.

Nice. a large Dutch bank decided that the only way to do software upgrades is by closing all payments during the whole night. Can't get at my Euro's for another 4.5 hours (with a bit of luck). Bitcoin turns out to be a whole lot more reliable than my local bank  Embarrassed

Once your initial investment is recouped it's remarkably easier to hold through it all. Source: me
Taxes help too:
Sell too soon: -> "trading" -> income -> 52% tax over profit. (and 1.2% property tax)
Hodl: -> "investment" -> interest -> 1.2% property tax over the Jan 1st Euro value of the bitcoins.
(a good nick helps too.)
